National Guitar Workshop Promo
The Bitter End, NYC, August, 2004.
Guess who's on bass?

Lord of the Rings trilogy by Tolkien, the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, the entire Dune series by Frank Herbert and later by his son, the Jack Ryan books by Tom Clancy, anything by Dean Koontz, Isaac Asimov or David Eddings. Throw in the occasional politically incorrect non-fiction.

  • Music. I am the leader of a 14-piece blues band. That alone takes up a hell of a lot of free time.

  • Computers. Been in the business for 37 years so I build all my own machines. Love to tinker with technology.

I'm 60 years old and still have all my own hair! My daughter turned the beard gray; the sons are working night and day on the rest. Brooklyn-born, Sicilian, ex-Catholic (or is that "fallen"), 5' 10", 195# with so-so knees. Guess I should have stopped playing hockey at 55 before the injuries. I miss it!

A big life change just occurred in February, 2008 when I was hired FULL TIME by the pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. to work as a Senior Enterprise Architect in their global IT department. Not easy to get a job like this at my age so I'm relishing the opportunity. The best part is that they actually have a wonderful retirement plan; just need 5 years to be vested for lifetime pay and benefits. I must be walking in a ray of light!!!

The most fun I'm having right now is leading a rather large blues band, The BassBoards (pronounced "base"-boards...we're not a fishing group!)

I play bass and guitar, sing some lead and harmony, and do the arranging for the group, now numbering 14 people. Yes, Virginia, we have a 5-piece horn section!

Kate

The best part of this is that I get to perform with my daughter Kate (vocals), her husband Mark (acoustic guitar) and my cousin Greg (keys). She's 29 and a personal trainer / nutritionist... my daughter by my first wife who died of breast cancer in 1983 at the age of 34. Kate was 5 at the time. We only found out a few years ago that she could sing and what you hear is pure, raw talent, no lessons!!! You have no idea how special it is to be on stage with her...

There are lots of pictures, audio and video on the band sites. I'll be adding a few pictures of myself here plus a few videos of the band in action. I also posted a vid produced by Guitar One Magazine for The National Guitar Workshop in August of 2004. Greg and I backed up 35 would-be "guitar gods" on stage at the famous Bitter End in NYC. After that unique experience, we started The BassBoards (bass and keyboards). Enjoy and WRITE TO ME!!!!

  • Great music.

  • Romantic beaches.

  • The way a woman's hair cascades off her shoulders.

  • Catching the gleam in her eye and the look of that not-so-innocent smile...and knowing that it's meant only for you.

  • Allison Steele's voice. (RIP Nightbird...)

  • Women in mens' shirts.

And then...

I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.

That about says it all. Now, can you name the movie, the character who said this, what character the line was spoken to and where they were at the time? Bonus... What other character was present?

...tick...tock...tick...tock...

  • Anger, sarcasm, bitterness and resentment.

  • Phonies, liars, hypocrites and cheats.

  • Jumping out of a fully functioning aircraft.

  • Roller coasters. (It's a "control" thing.)

  • Cruise ships. Bad karma.

  • Microwaved fish.

  • Waaaay too much makeup and perfume.
