Hello! My name is Bridget and I am presently living in El Reno, Oklahoma. I would like to tell you a story which goes back to the Summer Of 1999. It was in early July when I met Elaine,(name has been changed for privacy reasons),at the beauty salon while waiting to get a haircut. We introduced ourselves and began to talk about our plans for the 4th Of July. After our haircuts, we decided to go out for some tea at one of the local tea rooms nearby. Within the next 2 hours we discovered that we were both born in 1962! Birth year twins!! Sweet, sweet coincidence! We also came to realize that we both enjoyed garage sales, thrift stores, coffeehouses, flea markets, Route 66, Classic TV, and antique stores. As we talked some more, we soon realized that we shared another common bond. We were also Another World Fans and both of us were "singing the blues" because the show had been recently cancelled. We soon began talking about our favorite episodes as well characters and this did cheer us up somewhat. (After all it does help to know that I'm not alone as there are others who miss the show as well!) Unfortunately even good things must come to an end. It was over 100 degrees that day so Elaine insisted on giving me a ride back to my apartment. We exchanged phone numbers, shook hands and wished one another a very Happy 4th Of July. For the next several months, we would meet for coffee, tea, and would even go to lunch sometimes. We lived for the garage sales on Fridays and Saturdays as well as the once a month trips to some of the bigger antique stores in Oklahoma City. In late November, I received some really bad news. I would have to move to Tulsa for a few months! This made me feel very blue! I would have to leave El Reno as well as Elaine!! The day before the movers arrived Elaine stopped by. We laughed and talked about old times over several cups of coffee. Shortly before noon, we parted company wishing each other well and vowing to stay in touch. In April 2000, I was able to return to El Reno. Within a week, Elaine and I were meeting for lunch and going to some local antique stores. It was so wonderful to be home once again! Unfortunately though, over the next several weeks, it began to look like things had changed between us during my brief stay in Tulsa. Over the next year I was the one who did most of the calling and stopping by. The trips to flea markets, coffeehouses, and garage sales, etc had become almost nonexistent. In February 2001, Elaine began refusing to return my phone calls. In April 2001, my husband and I closed on a house here in El Reno and decided to have a housewarming party at the end of May. I sent out invitations to everyone about six weeks in advance. Well Elaine never as much as even called or sent me a card. By now I knew that our friendship was over and that what we once had was gone. Although I was very disappointed, I have long since come to realize that not all friendships were meant to last a lifetime. To this day, it still brings a smile to my face when I think of the good times that we once had. I don't know where Elaine is now but I do wish her well. Even without Elaine, I am still very happy here in El Reno. It is such a quiet, peaceful town and I would never dream of living anywhere else.
Who I Would Like To Meet:
Other 1962 Twins, Route 66 enthusiasts, folks who like small town life, other Classic TV Fans, and those who just simply enjoying reminiscing about earlier times. Other fans of Another World who would like to see the show brought out of retirement and returned to daytime television.
