Experience demands that man is the only animal which devours his own kind, for I can apply no milder term to the general prey of the rich on the poor. Thomas Jefferson
Onion Skins Here I sit in my cave, my little hole in the universe that I call my own. Layers of humans live here; some wiped out and down on their luck, still others are hiding from lives lost in the rabble of living. We are all outcasts and misfits I suppose, just one bill closer to homeless, one heartbeat from hopelessness. Life is good here, for me. I have freedom and that makes me richer than I’ve ever been. There’s something about opening a can of tuna that you can eat how you want. Yes, I want onions in mine. I like onions. There’s nobody here to complain about my breath or cry from the smell of onions. People need thicker skin than onions I think. I hear the sounds in the night; the music of life for the have not’s. Shouts and laughter, curses and mumbling I hear as they climb stairs to their own caves, to their own little hole in the universe that they call their own. I am quiet here. I hide from the outside world watching people being murdered on television, thankful that it’s not me bloody on the kitchen floor. I never dreamed of this life, but I live with what I have been dealt. I believe there is a purpose to my life if only to be a reminder to others to take different turns as life twists out of control. There are those who might go mad living in solitude and isolation… but for me, it means contentment. The madness is outside my double locked door.

Sanctuary I close my eyes and drift to my safe haven, A place of sensory pleasure and enlightenment Listening to the rustle of leaves as the wind blows Caressing me with nature's softest breath Sinking deep into my bubble bath, so luxuriant Imagining flowing along with the river currents Simply floating through time and space As relaxation begins to engulf my being The fragrant smell of roses permeate mind and soul, Aromatherapy and bubble bath, my skin responds I am the sister of the rose, petal soft and happy I can almost feel the warmth of the sun on my face At long last I am relaxed and rejuvenated I'm able to face another adventurous day Pulling the plug on life's stresses for now As all of the negativity slowly flows down the drain

Once Upon a Dream
Once upon a midnight dream, Beneath a moon both full and bright; We danced amidst starlit gleam Enchanted were we by moonlight
Beneath a moon both full and bright Faerie frolicked amidst our feet Enchanted were we by moonlight And night-song, both soft and sweet
Faerie frolicked amidst our feet Bathed in moonlight and silver stardust And night-song, both soft and sweet Woodland fairies gave us their trust
Bathed in moonlight and silver stardust, In the glen by a shimmering blue pool, Woodland fairies gave us their trust As we frolicked around a magic toadstool
In the glen by a shimmering blue pool, We danced amidst starlit gleam As we frolicked around a magic toadstool Once upon a midnight dream

Rhapsody
I sought you last night in a dream. goose bumped flesh caused me to shiver in anticipation, half starved for your touch.
Footfalls echoed outside my door, each in rhythm with my beating heart. Transfixed, I watched the door.
Suddenly, your body silhouettes, featureless in shadow, yet familiar as if the shadow were my own. I ache inside, willing you to me.
I reach to touch your supple lips, moist and inviting; tracing them with a whispering fingertip, feather soft; leaving behind a quivering smile.
You capture my hand, holding it hostage to kiss tenderly. Our eyes meet in remembrance of past lives and future promises, falling together in a tangle of sheets and sighs.
Dream shifts and our bed becomes rippled sand. Crashing surf carries us into the deep, Submerged and drowning, barely able to breathe. Weighty surges engulf; then body to body life is saved, lending buoyancy in a moment of trust. I am delivered into your open arms.
Like déjà vu to the senses, our bodies meet again, swaddled in silk and down; drowning in ecstasy; and rescued in a moment of salvation, evolving into a new creation, symbiotic lovers, speaking the lost language of sighs.

This is about a first kiss of a new love, so it does not describe the innocence of most first kiss writes. Those feelings are there, yes, but on a more mature level. It is a moment in time that will never happen again, fleeting, special, and treasured.
Love’s First Kiss
I have goose bumps and butterflies; feeling flush from this internal blush. I am young again when near you; inside, I am glowing radiantly, where emotions spark like fireworks. I sigh, mesmerized by your velvet voice; your words, a soft caress to my soul; your touch, a healing balm to burning skin left tingling in fingertips’ wake.
Breathless, my lips brush yours, briefly pausing before merging fully. Famished, I feast upon your lips, drunk from tasting you; intoxicated by love. I am drawn to you like bee to blossom, addicted to nectar, coated in its essence; fulfilled in this perfect moment in time.

Forever in My Heart I've been thinking a lot about you lately, as the days get cooler and autumn leaves begin to fall. Smiles and laughter fill my memories, of a time when illness belonged to others. We had it all Didn't we? Your words over the years still linger in my heart forever embedded there. Had I known that I'd never have this kind of love again, I'd have cherished it more in the moment. For now all I can do is remember and try to erase those ending memories when you struggled for life. But it was part of you Part of a tapestry of YOU. I miss your love Your laugh. You.

Child’s Play Memoirs penned in legible characters, precisely; margins, as perfect as my adult self strives to be, does not do justice to those nostalgic childhood memories when we were foot loose and fancy free.
A daily gambol into parts unknown did we, usurping adventure in every crack and cranny; every escapade another exercise in mirth and youthful glee; merriment and high jinks, rejoicing in an endless fantasy.
Cutting loose, running with the giggling breeze in our hair, skipping through the summer in and endless romp; Never ending buffoonery escaped us without a care, As through fields and streams we radiantly stomped.
O’ to be there once again, forsaking the casualties of adult lives, reliving those effervescent days of joyous play, such bliss, running full tilt boogie, wild and alive, not merely inked in memories of long gone days.

Stormy Weather I always think of you when it rains. I close my eyes to listen to the storm, wondering if you’re listening too; if you feel the same about me as before. Lightening flashes in the distance. Torrential rain falls outside; I want you now, more than ever, but I simply don’t want to hide. The ringing phone brings me to now, Your voice breathes softly in my ear. “I miss you too†I say and meant it, “I sure wish that you were here.†Every day can’t be stormy; There’s more to life besides this game. We may not have what we both want, but I will always think of you when it rains.

Prison Within Here I am, locked inside A prison of my own making Here I can safely hide, The outside world forsaking
A prison of my own making, Ethereal bars keep me hidden; The outside world forsaking To trespass is forbidden.
Ethereal bars keep me hidden; Invisible walls keep all else out To trespass is forbidden. I no longer live with doubt.
Invisible walls keep all else out Here I can safely hide, I no longer live with doubt Here I am, locked inside
