I Missed You....
Posted On 03/11/2007 01:24:05
Good morning to all my friends. I'm back and I missed you!!!!!! It's cold outside and I'm watching a deer run across Island Lake ice towards the island in search of food and it feels real good to be back at the command post with all my critters, my computer and the Penthouse Cabin. It was quite the trip to Detroit via Chicago and after 34 days I have enough material for 340 blogs. As you can see I haven't changed but I really have. Oh my...

First things first as they should be. My VA checkup was all thumbs up as I continue to astound every Doctor in the building and I am surely saved by grace. A good attitude goes a long way and snowshoeing around the island helps too. We can be all we want to be and go to places not thought possible if we want it bad enough. A bad attitude breeds depression and a smile lights up the world and if we can make others laugh they won't be able to mope. God has given me this day to enjoy and I pray hard not to disappoint...

My parents are well and we had some precious time together to tell old stories and catch up on new ones. I love them so much and owe them a debt of gratitude I can never repay but am trying. Dad is 79 and grey hair has overtaken the black and he's slowed down but still fit and I sit with pen and paper as I ask him to tell me about the old days and hoping to write a chronicle of it all. Mom is Mom, bless her heart. Don't tell anyone but I am Momma's boy. Thru her everyone within 15 miles of her home knows her son is a published author and if you have a minute she will tell you too. To see her smile like she does is more important then selling a million copies. Call your parents this Sunday and tell them how much you love them, eh?..

My bud Billy drove me to Chicago and to (Saved by Grace) Janet and I took a bus from her home to Detroit in an ice storm that slid the bus around the freeway like a really big bumper car. I very much enjoyed Janet's company and missed my bus and didn't even care which is a step up for me. If I were you I would add her to your friends list if she isn't. She is a kind, caring person with faith to spare and a smile that never quits. More later about our time together....

Billy and I stumbled through knee high snow, bags in arms getting me back home and we took many breaks in the half mile from the mailbox. It was 40 inside the Penthouse Cabin and I couldn't get the heat going fast enough and looking around I figure I need a home makeover. I turned on my computer and it did nothing but tell me it was dang cold. This is probably why I could not access it while gone and is the only reason I didn't stay in touch. If you know me you will know I tried very hard. But now I am back and like a sprinter at the starting line of a 100 yard dash, ready to bolt out of the gate with a writing passion....

I have alot to catch up on but wanted to say hi as I get back into my groove. Drop me a line and say hey. Again, I missed you. All is good in the world and I am very thankful and appreciate it more every day. Have a peaceful Sunday, a day God has given us. Smiles and hugs.......Gene

See ya...

It's time for me to take a break and head back to the Detroit area for a month. I'll try to get a blog in when I can and I expect to be back the first week of March. I'll miss ya...

Stay positive, stay warm (-14 here) and keep a good attitude with a smile.

I love Indianapolis, Indiana. It has a great downtown and a team in the Super Bowl. Needless to say, the local beer company drivers have been working overtime and the union has designated Monday, the day after the Super Bowl, as a paid holiday and every driver gets a 3 day weekend plus a free 6 pk. of beer. That's a good boss.....

"since the day I met him. I love being with him. I love calling him husband.". Now, this is important news. I am so glad this made the headlines on my page this morning. Who is it? It's Katie talking about Tom Cruise. I feel better now that I know this....

ExxonMobile announced that they made 39.5 Billion dollars last year or 4.5 million per hour. In their defense they say they need 'Big Profits". And we just want to be able to have a few bucks to fill the tank.......

Our governement has a terrorist in solitary confinement for 5 years now with no rights to a speedy trial. When I heard this, all I could think about was Sen Mcain and his time in the Hanoi Hilton for years and how we thought it was barbaric. Can't understand why we aren't better then our enemies anymore....

Look up into the sky tonight when the moon comes out and look just above the moon and to the right where you will see a bright yellowish star. That is Saturn....

Fiction reveals truth that reality obscures.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

It was 9 when I got up and now it is 3 above now and going south faster then Michiganders heading to Florida. ?The big Chill, the deep freeze....

Have a great Friday and don't forget to pray for 'Dejavu77 and her daughterr Renee and all her family....

Have a great weekend too and be safe, be kind and do good deeds...

smiles, Gene

prayers for Dejavu77
Posted On 02/02/2007 12:16:54
I received a message from Dejavu77's daughter Renee mentioning that Dehjavu77 is in the hospital getting some tests done and I am passing the news on to all boomers. She would appreciate it if we keep her in our prayers.

Lets all pray real hard for a good result of her tests and the for the fears she must have. And also for Renee and the rest of her family.

Let her know she is not alone.

thx, Easy

Dorrito's...
Posted On 02/01/2007 01:37:01
Dorrito's paid $2.4 for a short commercial during the Super Bowl but it only cost them $12.74 to make the ad. They let the public think up a commercial and send it in and the winner gets $10,000 cash and tickets to the Super Bowl. Not mentioning the air time and noterioty. Dorrito's saved about a million dollars by not having their advertising department do it. I had to stop and think about this for a couple of reasons and U tube has come to mind....

I know the premis of U tube but haven't been on the site much but it is a market that is growing daily in a world of video and self expression. I wanted to make up a 10 minute video to attach to my book when it came out but I didn't have the money or the camera to do it. I had visions of showing all of you the culvert where I almost froze to death, the inside of the Penthouse Cabin (yaw, like you want to), my favorite spot where I sat in the woods and wrote the last stories of my book. The more I think about it, the more I want to make one. After all, I am a ham in front of the camera and my imagination is well....different.......

The message Dorrito's is sending is that it does not have to spend lots of money to some big advertising company for all its ads. It's saying that WolfTraveler or Betty Boop can come up with a can't miss ad for a fraction of the cost. I'm wondering how BB can somehow fit 'Go Mets' into a Dorrito's bag.....

Dorrito's has 5 finalists from which they will pick a winner so when you are munching on Dorrito's you will have to check out the ad. Unfortunately, I can't get the picture on CBS on my TV but I can pick up the sound of crunching Dorrito's. Doesn't matter anyway, I'll be out on the lake catching a Northern Pike using Frito's for bait....

IndyMann 31 DaBears 17. Take that to the party store.. Happy Thursday... 4 days from blast off with lots of smiles... Easy

Dang Cold...
Posted On 01/31/2007 04:09:43
The weatherman says that we will dip below zero on Friday and not see positive numbers until Tuesday which means the ice fishing this weekend should be pretty interesting. Bull's biker buds are coming back as I get ready to leave. It could go down to -25 at night and with the wind ripping across the lake it will feel like, well...DANG COLD....

The wind will be wipping across the frozen tundra to the tune of -30, try humming that one outside. Only the sturdy of mind and warm feet need apply. Or, the stupid. I'll leave stupid to the Wisconsin boys, I plan to sit here and amuse you with my blog in waiting and be a host at my open cabin and watch the tip ups pop up and slide down the hill, bounce off the Leaky Teaky 2, pull up the pike and hand it off to the wizard with the electric knife bone finder filet..er.....

Pity the poor man who won't go out because it's cold. Good thing Sir Hillary didn't mind it when he and the Sherpa took a walk up a mountain. Or when Lewis and Clark paved the way west with winters beyond belief. Or when a whitetail Deer finds a place to stay warm and has no shelter. We take the heat and we take the cold and we have no choice. tThe choice we do have is how to enjoy it. Don't cry for me Argentina like I don't cry for Mistyy's Vegas heat. She catches a tan and I catch a fish....

Heading out again. Have a great Wednesday. Beat the elements and the odds. We can do anything we want to do. Just have to think smart first, eh? smiles, Gene

Reality Check...
Posted On 01/30/2007 02:31:15
I've decided to stop in at the animal shelter in Iron Mountain and get a dog when I come back here in March. I was afraid I couldn't take care of myself when I came back home and now I think it's time to get a good buddy. I had a short haired pointer for 13 years until she died of cancer and Brandy is even in the dedication of my book. She was man's best friend and I've always figured I could never find a dog like her but now I know I don't have to. Like Burner says, when I look for a dog that day just take the one that comes to me. Burner is sneaky smart....

We spent the day together yesterday stopping at every bookstore in Marquette county and coffee in 3 restaurants. I signed contracts, 70/30 and 60/40 and a check comes in the mail the first of every month and Burner says why not put it in 1000 bookstores but cautioned me to buy a bigger mail box....

At the book store where Jeff used to work the nice lady took my books and before I left I asked her if she could put my book out with the rest of the books so I could acctually see it for sale next to Hemingway. She said, awwww and did. I've only been waiting my whole life for this moment....

I walked out to the truck where Burner was rubbing off another bingo lottery ticket and told him I would be a few minutes and he said ok while the lady put me book on the shelf....

I walked back into the bookstore like I used to do when Jeff was getting off work and I was his ride home. I would browse the aisles while he checked out and I knew where the local writers section was but pretended I didn't and went to the classics first. Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway was the first and I remembered sitting at a table at Margeret Chase Library in Detroit reading it at 10 years old. I had to get special permission to take it home....

And then I saw it. Trout Falls Chronicles. I tried not to cry but I did. I didn't touch a copy afraid I would get it wet. My dream was in front of me now. Staring me in the face. What a journey. What happiness. I'm at a loss for the right words words, my friends.....

Laundry on the line.....
Posted On 01/28/2007 02:33:57
My Gramma Katy used to tell me that looking at her neighbors laundry hanging on the line was a way toto know how they were getting by. If the Fathers work clothes weren't being washed daily he probably was sick. If the white clothes were tinted brown they were probably short on money for soap. And if there was no laundry someone had probably died....

When Gramma was just an Irish wisp of a kid her job was to bring the cows home from the pasture before dark and she was barely 5' tall as an adult. How she brought them cows home I will never know? I do know I told her just before she passed on that the cows are all home now and it was time for her to go home too. God speed.. And then she was gone. Now, I never think a cow like most people do.....

It will be sweet going home to Detroit to see my parents and my brother again. I left them last April on a wing and a prayer and against all odds and opinions. I couldn't possibly live alone and so sheltered 3 miles from no where. Now, I go back to all who remember me as the sick guy who talked too much of his dream of writing a book but always had a smile. The anticipation of my trip is like Christmas Eve....

I'll sleep on the couch for a week or so and help my parents out and when Dad gets up early I will have breakfast ready and his Detroit Free Press for him to read. I'll do the dishes for Mom because that is a treat to have hot water coming oout of a faucet on demand. What a concept. I'll join them for coffee at their favorite restaurant where I believe she has sold many books of mine. Seeing her so happy for me makes me so happy for her. When I was a kid I would lay on the floor watching TV with her and she always told me I was destined for big things and only now do I know what those bnig thing sare...

I am an extension of my grand parents and my parents with each of us having our own gift to give to others who come later. Teach the kids well. Be an example and a mentor for the next generation to come. I won't even know who they are but I do know they will be an extension of me and my parents and their parents. They call that Family....

Have a oeaceful Sunday and call someone you love who made adifference in your life. Make their day like they have made yours and mine.....

Words and a little venting....
Posted On 01/26/2007 01:51:11
I remember arguments I had with Karen but cannot remember what they were about. We ALWAYS hurt the one we love when we would not hurt a stranger walking by. Sad but true....

The very best word is the one left unspoken...

The largest building in the world at one time was the great Pyramid in Gaza. That was until 1889 when a taller building went up. What was it? Answer at end of blog....

I have a house full of pennies in coffee cans and I hear that the US mint is so short on them they are considering making them nickels. Wow!! I'm going to be rich......

Waiting on the first season of Deadwood to arrive and after I watch it I may get my posse together and wrangle some side winders...

I have found out in life that I swear more when I am with people who swear. I still haven't heard a squirrel say, 'sh**, so that's why I say, dang......

Using swear words only proves you haven't taken the time to learn really good words....

A great word can rebuke a bully better then a punch. If it doesn't, hit them over the head with the dictionary...

Using a double negative is not never good...

When a sentence doesn't look right, I put the back end of it at the front and it will look better. Maybe it is me and the way I think but it works once in awhile....

I'd love to spend some time in Valhalla.

My bud Burner grew up learning Finnish and English together and was one of 17 kids. Try that some time. Double seater outhouse and no electricity until 1955. He said it was great growing up. That's why I like Burner.....

Travis John Fuller is Marine who died in Irag in 2005. I'm in tears listening to his sisters tell of how much he is missed and that's the end of this blog. The mood is gone. Too many young men and women dying over pride and power and bull headedness to not talk to your enemy. How in the heck can we expect ever finding peace if he can't talk about it around a kitchen table. And there I go again...sorry..

I'm off to town. Hitchin on the corner waiting for a ride to take me away.....

Happy Friday. Happy Weekend. Make it good..do right... Dudly..

A big grin this morning.....Easy

oh yaw, Eiffel Tower
