This little poem was in my medical terminology book, I liked it so much I wanted to share it with you.

Dermatology I wish the dermatologist were less a firm apologist for all the terminology that's used in dermatology. Something you or I would deem a redness, he calls erythema; If it's blistered, raw and warm he has to call it multiforme. Things to him are never simple; papule is his word for pimple. What's a macule, clearly stated? Just a spot that's over-rated! Over the skin that looks unwell he chants Latin like a spell; What he's labeled and obscured looks to him as good as cured. The Curse of Crain Surf
(This is a story that was written by my son about a year ago, I thought it was great when he showed it to me, and had misplaced it until now. As you read this, please keep in mind that it was written by a 10-year-old. ) One scary night, it was very dark. There was no moon and my flashlight was going dead. I was walking in the grave yard. Since my flashlight was going dead, I was cursing Crain Surf because I knew he was doing this to me. When I got to the exit of Hillsboro Cemetery, I saw a light behind me. I turned around to see what was making the light. That’s when I saw him. Crain Surf was running towards me, so I ran across the street to an old, abandoned house. I ran around that house for an hour before I found a place to hide. In the attic, I found a sign that said ‘Crain Surf, Evil Wizard’. This sign was so dusty that I could hardly make out the years on it. The years were carved into it. The years were 1963-2001. The year was 2050. I was 49, and still was smart enough to know that I needed to get out of there. I found a window that I could get through. When I looked out of the window, I saw a 2010 Chevy Camaro, so I jumped out of the window and got into the car. I was lucky. The keys were in it. I got on the road and went to my old house. My family still owned the property so I made the jump we had set up. Crain Surf was right behind me. I was burning tires when I took off. Driving top speed of 150 and Crain Surf was still right behind me in his old bucket of bolts. By the time I stopped I was at a grave in my mom and dad’s field. The grave marker said ‘John Surf, brother of Crain Surf’. Crain was pulling up to the grave as I was leaving. Crain was after me again, so I went to the lake and parked in the secret tunnel until Crain went under water to look for me. I left when he was under, but he spotted me. So I’m giving the car all its got so I can jump over the fence. When I jumped the fence, I didn’t see him. When I got driving pretty fast I saw him driving through the fence. When I got to Maysville, I went to my house and parked the car in the garage. I ran around the house and there was no sign of Crain. I got in my old bucket of bolts that I had put a racecar engine in. I raced to WalMart and Crain was not to be seen. I asked the cashier how to get rid of Crain, and the cahier said that I had to shoot Crain. So, I went outside and there was still no sign of Crain Surf. After I looked around, I raced to my car. I needed a gun, so I went to Arrismith Guns, and there was no sign of Surf. I bought a rifle, pistol, machine gun, and bullets. When I went outside, Crain had just pulled in. I got behind my car and loaded my pistol. I started to shoot at him. He spotted me, so I got in my car and started it up. I got to a 20-mile straight stretch and put my car in cruise. After I put my car in cruise, I hung out the window with my rifle and shot out the tires of Crain’s car. He had jumped out of his car before it flipped. So, I stopped and got the machine gun. I started shooting like crazy. When I ran out of bullets, he was still alive. So, I got the pistol and shot him a couple of times and he fell down dead. After that I found an empty Hearse with a coffin in it. So, I drove back to Crain’s body. I picked Crain up and put him in the coffin with another man that looked just like him. I figured he was John Surf. I had to put my racecar engine in the Hearse so it would go really fast. First, I went to my mom and dad’s farm and up to the grave. I then took John Surf out of the coffin and into the grave, and then I got back in the Hearse. When I got out of the field, I went to Hillsboro Cemetery. Once I got to Crain Surf’s grave, I took Crain out and put him in the grave. I went home, but I stopped and got my bucket of bolts and put my racecar engine back in it and went home and I never seen Crain or John Surf again. The End written on 10/13/2010 by Thomas Shaffer

The Ghoul The gruesome ghoul, the thirsty ghoul, without the slightest noise waits patiently beside the school to feast on girls and boys. He lunges fiercely through the air as they come out to play then grabs a couple by the hair and drags them far away. He cracks their bones and snaps their backs and squeezes out their lungs, he chews their thumbs like candy snacks and pulls apart their tongues. He slices their stomachs and bites their hearts and tears their flesh to shreds, he swallows their toes like toasted tarts and gobbles down their heads. Fingers, elbows, hands and knees and arms and legs and feet-- he eats them with delight and ease, for every part's a treat. And then when the gruesome, grisly ghoul has nothing left to chew, he hurries to another school and waits...perhaps for you. Not written by me, GB 6/13/11
I think about him from time to time That guy I loved who could have been mine I wonder what he's doing now How he's feeling Where he is Our love was strong, yet I broke his heart The day I told him we had to part I said I'd come back He said he would wait I can't believe it's been so long since I went away I wish he knew how much I've missed him each day What I have done How I have cried I know now that I should never have gone My heart was with him, he was the one I can't change the past The way things are Maybe someday, down this road of life We'll be together again, I'll be his wife Together forever Never to part Soul to soul and heart to heart GB 4/19/11
Untitled Sat down and tried to clear my head So I could write some thoughts But all I kept thinking was the days events Can't seem to get "outside the box" There's assignments due, doctor appointments My son wants me to watch him play All I want is to relax, unwind and settle down At the end of a very long day My oldest cops his "bad boy" attitude The middle boy thinks he knows it all My lttle girl is the biggest drama queen And Davey's just a litle guy who acts really tall Seems like dad is always sick My husband won't slow down That little dog is always into things Sometimes she is such a clown These are the things that keep me busy At the end of an exhausting day Racing thoughts-they fill my head And never seem to go away Now it's bedtime, whew, thank God But my head's full of words, isn't that odd Now I can think? Now I can write? I don't think so, not this night. Tonight I dream, tonight I sleep For tomorrow-those writings can keep Then the morning comes, I'm awake again My mind is a blank, can't remember anything. But sometimes I wake up earlier And get a chance to write things down Before the day gets too crazy for me And my mind gets all bogged down It's then I sit with pen and coffee And write my peoms and my stories The morning is such a blessed peaceful time And I am content in this life of mine. (In loving memory of a woman who was more than just my mother, she was my best friend.) A Tribute to My Mom I brought you flowers again today As I have every Holiday since you went away Although you are missed every day since your passing The love you gave to us all will be everlasting The tears we cried as we said goodbye Formed the river you crossed to the sweet by-and-by Your memory lives on in the heart of a child She has her mother's eyes and her daddy's smile And while you rejoice in heaven and praise His Holy Name Remember things down here will never be the same All we can do is wish and pray For the time when the Lamb comes to take us away Then we'll see you again in that land of great glory And there will be no more pain and no end to our story Have a Heavenly Mother's Day
I just wanted to thank each and everyone of you for the prayers, blessings, and positive energies you sent our way because of my mother-in-law's illness. She is doing better now and they are telling us she could get to come home tonight or tomorrow. Your frienship sure means alot, sometimes I feel it's all we've got. And when I'm drowning in despair and doubt, You take my hand and gently pull me out. To my bad you are the good, If I wouldn't, I know you would. And when I need to rave and rant, You never say, "No, you can't." Your friendship is a blessing to say the least, Because it goes as far as love can reach. New or old, big or small, As far as friends go, we've got it all. You never take more than I can give to you, As long as we are friends, I will never be blue. Thank you so much for being my friend, I hope our journeys together will never end. GB 1/7/11
WARNING: This blog contains religious material. If this offends you, please do not read. I don't usually post videos in my blog, but in this case I had to make an exception. You see, this song has become my testimony, and recently I spend everyday with it going through my mind. There seem to be so many times when I feel like I have fallen short or disappointed God in my endeavors for Him, because of my humanness, and sometimes I find it hard to just give it up and hand it over to Him. These are the times when I feel just like this flower. Here is the video, the words are included, and you may have to pause it more than a few times to read all the scriptures, but I hope it touches you as much as it has me. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN6uyoVv1Us (sorry, I could not get the video to load here)
She floats around on magic toes and possesses invisable gossamer wings she sounds just like an angel whenever she starts to sing. Her eyes are the darkest chocolate and her hair is pure spun gold, her skin is soft as velvet but she is only six years old. She is sweeter than the richest honey, with a heart as big as all outdoors and every time you are near her you'll only wanna be near her more She flits and she flutters from couch to table to chair she glides almost effortlessly from here to over there She is beautiful and she is precious like a sonnet or a lullaby She will always be my richest treasure my little girl, my dancing butterfly.
