The World's Most Exotic Pets

The World's Most Exotic Pets

Monkeys, Lions and Chimpanzees are animals we often see in the wild or on the Discovery Channel. The following are some exotic albeit expensive pets that can be legally bought. These animals, however do come with a heavy price tag and that is not including the upkeep.

13. Bengal Cat

Price Tag: $800-$3,000

Image

The Bengal Cat is bred by mating a domestic black shorthaired cat with an Asian Leopard cat. As with many hybrids the goal is to create a domestic cat in size and demeanor with the exotic Asian Leopard Cat appearance and coloring. As with most hybrid cats, the breed becomes more and more domesticated with each successive generation, therefore the ideal domesticated breed would be at least three to five generations removed from the original breed.

12. Snow Macaque

Price Tag: $3,500

Image

The Snow Macaque is considered a threatened species as we continue to encroach on more and more of the animal's habitat. Due to this fact, coveted licenses and special permits are mandated to own this very rare animal. The Snow Macaque is a smaller primate with a lifespan of over 25 years with the distinguishing feature of a hairless red face.

11. Squirrel Monkey

Price Tag: $4,000

Image

This primate is about the size of a squirrel thus it's name. Generally the squirrel monkey does not get any bigger than 2 pounds and is considered a very social, affectionate and peaceful animal. These complacent characteristics make the animal a highly desired pet, however as with most of these animals, many states do not allow them to be privately owned.

10. Chinese Crested Hairless Puppies

Price Tag: $4,000-$5,000

Image

These dogs weigh about 5 to 12 lbs and are very vivacious, alert and friendly animals. Considered to be one of the rarest dogs, these dogs are prone to sunburning on a hot and clear day. The dogs first originated in Africa and the animals is most often found to be a very pleasant companion that lives for over 10 to 12 years.

9. Savannah Cat

Price Tag: $4,000-$10,000

Image

Bred in a similar process to the Bengal Cat, the Savannah Cat is bred by mating the African Serval with a smaller domestic cat. The Savannah inherently has a much more difficult breeding process, because an African Serval is 40lbs and undomesticated and breeding it with a domestic house cat is problematic. Concurrently, the gestation periods between the two animals are different. Due to these factors, the Savannah is a more expensive and rare breed of cat.

8. Mona Guenon

Price Tag: $6,000

Image

The Mona Guenon's natural habitat is within the Western African tropical forests, however this animal is capable of adapting to any forest environment. Therefore, despite special permits and licenses to own this animal, it is not considered an endangered specie.

7. Debrazzas Monkey

Price Tag: $10,000

Image

The DeBrazza's Monkey is easily recognized by its white beard and yellowish gray fur. The animal will generally live for about 22 years. Though many people do shell out the hefty price for this primate, they become disappointed when the docile and tender babies grow to become unpredictable and hostile adults.

6. Striped Ball Python

Price Tag: $10,000

Image

Master Python Breeder, Bob Clark states that he has an exclusive on this genetic striped ball python. The prominent stripe is what makes this animal very unique. More clearly, the striped ball showcases a yellow dorsal stripe with a a black border, clearly differentiating them from any other snake.

5. Hyacinth Macaw

Price Tag: $6,500-12,000

Image

Macaws overall are very expensive. The Hyacinth Macaw exhibiting beautifully vibrant coloring, generally commands $20,000 a pair. Physically these birds are about 40 inches long and have a bright blue coloring. Their wing span is about four feet and these birds make popular pets despite their expensive price tag.

4. Reticulated Albino Type II Tiger Python

Price Tag: $15,000

Image

Master Python Breeder, Bob Clark's Reticulated Albino Type II Tiger Pythons sell for $15,000 each. An extremely rare breed, these pythons showcase a co-dominant tiger pattern, making them extremely popular in the snake world.

3. Lavender Albino Python Female

Price Tag: $20,000

Image

This red-eyed snake is lavender in color, under a vibrant yellow pattern. Also available from python breeder Bob Clark, the rarity has fueled demand.

2. Chimpanzee

Price Tag: $60,000-$65,000

Image

Chimpanzees are highly intelligent primates and are closely related to humans. Chimpanzees weigh about 115 lbs and the male is slightly larger than the female. The natural habitat of the Chimpanzee is within central Africa and western Africa. Though an endangered specie, Chimps are legal pets in some states.

1. White Lion Cubs

Price Tag: $138,000

Image

The very rare White Lion is because of a a recessive gene and the animals are not considered to be albino. The White Lion's eye color is similar to the regular lion, however the coat pigmentation and skin are not. Due to its price, demand, upkeep and scarcity, the White Lion remains one of the most difficult animals in the world to obtain.

Sublime & Sensual Smoke Art

Sometimes "going up in smoke" can be a good thing

Natural smoke (and its Photoshop variety) seem to become more and more a media of choice for artistic expression. Today, we'll feature some examples of "smoke art", and marvel at how such an elusive substance can be possibly herded into fascinating shapes.

Sublime & Sensual Smoke Art

Artists inherently like smoke for its flux and dynamic properties, and the public seem to enjoy asking the perennial question "What were they smoking?" when seeing a radical and challenging piece of art.

(original unknown)

Abstract, natural smoke meets electricity

First, lets see how a NATURAL smoke can be made to look so wonderful - without any Photoshop manipulations. Sometimes all it takes is a good high-speed strobe flash and a correct exposure to capture ambient light.

Irene Muller examines the inner wisps and curls of colored smoke, producing photographs worthy to be framed in the process. See the whole series on her site.

Or the smoke that's produced in explosive interaction with electricity:

Lighting Matches - simple act, enhanced by artistic flair

The most basic combination of elements: fire and air (smoke) - make for an endlessly mesmerizing and enchanting dance of evolving forms:

Unintentional Shapes

Unintentional... and all the more surprising for it. Seems like nature can best any our effort to conjure unusual lovely shapes (even if it's milk drops descending into the water... with smoky textures)

Burning incense sticks makes groovy "colored smoke" - a series by Graham Jeffery:

Thomas Herbrich has an excellent series "Smoke" on his site:

Putting an egg in the middle of the smoke action, makes it even more interesting:

Photoshop Smoke Nirvana

What were they smoking? Maybe they inhaled a highly-potent concentration of Photoshop tips, tricks, skills and effects, mixed it with a heady brew of creativity - and produced these wisps (for the benefit and enjoyment of the paying client) -

And for the sheer luminous sensuality of smoke (can't touch it, a moment - and it's gone), here are a few retouched smoke dreams from one of the Russian Photoshop forums (where they also discuss steps of how to make such art) -

5 Fastest Fighter Planes in the World

In the last 15-20 years, the tremendous technological advancements have influenced and changed almost every aspect of our lives. Many of the times, these advancements are a result of the research and development carried out by the military establishment all over the world. Naturally, fighter planes being the very core of defence of any modern air force, there has been a sea change in the design, features and performance of fighter planes from what they used to be. Let us have a look at the five fastest fighter planes of the world.

Leaf Art

Leaf Art

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Art can be expressed through many forms from paintings and sculptures to chalk art and liquid photography. Artists are not satisfied just conveying their emotions through their mediums anymore either. They wish to make use of everything in the world around them. They see potential in everything. Due to this growing passion, Leaf Art was introduced.

leaf art collage

This type of art is fairly recent and draws its inspiration from nature. It is mostly done on dry leaves such as such as Peepal and Banayan tree leaves, although other leaves can also be used.

There are many different forms of leaf art. All of them can be categorized into 3 main categories: painted directly on the leaves, sticking some extra decoration on the leaves and carving part of the surface of the leaf and making use of its natural vein and left surface to create scenes.

The following pictures are created by adding some extra decoration on the leaves.

Leaf carving is the most beautiful and the most difficult of them all. Leaves are usually chosen from the Chinar Tree and then go through a 60 step process such as shaving, pressing, curing, and dying and so on. In some instances, the outer surface of the leaf is carefully removed making sure it doesn’t cut or damage the leaf’s veins which add detail to the carving.

Spectacular 3D Art on Paper

Spectacular 3D Art on Paper

It takes an artist to create a world on paper with just a few strokes of a pencil or a paintbrush. It takes a truly spectacular artist to bring the imaginary world out of the paper and make it come to life. That’s exactly what 3D Art is all about, an insane amount of talent and works of art that seem impossible to pull off on a flat surface.

3d art collage

These following illustrations are the work of Chilean artist Fredo. They’re so incredible that it’s hard to believe that a 17 year old has created them. Fredo spends anything from half an hour to a month making sure that each picture is perfect. His unique style makes the objects appear as if they’re going to jump right out of the page. According to this talented artist “Everything is possible with a pencil in your hands, the real world is smaller than the imaginary. And, of course, have fun and do it with love.”

Another artist who specializes in creating 3D images is Nagai Hideyuki, the 21 year old prodigy from Japan. Hideyuki identifies himself as an anamorphic artist, which is a style of art that stems from the early Renaissance. The style features techniques based on perspective, where an artist creates distorted images or drawings that are recognizable only when viewed in a certain way. If you look at them up close, his drawings appear as flat sketches on sheets of paper. However, from a distance the compositions test our brains to ‘see’ more than we might first expect.
