George Lucas has sold Lucasfilm, home of 'Star Wars', to Disney for $4.05 billion (£2.5 billion). They are planning a trilogy of new films set in the iconic universe.
No, it's not April Fools' Day.
The studio will release 'Star Wars: Episode 7' in 2015, with further instalments to follow 'every two to three years' after parts '8' and '9'.
George Lucas will remain a creative consultant on the new films. In a statement, he said: "For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime."
Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO of Disney, said: "Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas." "This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney's unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value." Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm, will become President of Lucasfilm, reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn.
The studio said there has been a "substantial pent up demand†for ‘Star Wars’ since the release of ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ back in 2005.
‘Sith’ made £527 million at the box office.
The Lucasfilm deal follows Disney’s purchase of Pixar, for $7.4 Billion and Marvel for $4.2 billion. Darth Vader must be spinning in his zero-g coffin

On the subject of travelling, I've found there are two schools of thought. One believes that the destination is the whole point of it: get to where you are going to, and see what needs seeing to. Bollocks. The other school of traveller tends to relish getting lost in the journey itself, that mad adrenaline rush brought on by all the wrong turns and unexpected discoveries along the way. If you haven't guessed, I subscribe to the latter. After all, what is a life if not a trip?

I'm not going to get into anyone, but bands who care about certain things and then go on one-and-a-half year stadium tours are just total hypocrites.
In one sense you've got this developing humanist thing that's coming out of you, which is great.
Then you're creating these massive impersonal events where you set yourself up as the subject of thousands of people's adoration. Where is the humanity in that? That's just idolatry.
You can't question Bob Geldof. But him and Bono - if you're so interested and care about Africa, think about the people, see them as a neighbour. Be interested in what they are interested in and don't impose your own ideas. It's imperious, it really is.

I have a friend who writes interesting blogs. She is a good person, someone whom you'd be glad to be friends with. And, of late, one of her other friends, always recommends orgasms for every ailment my friend has. Got headache? Orgasms help. Got toothache? Orgasms help. Lost all your limbs in a horrible chainsaw accident? Orgasms help. Oh brother! It has got to a point where I roll my eyes so hard that I can see the back of my own skull. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with flirting but to me this seems a little on the nose so to speak. There is no moral to this blog unless you want to try and cure your illness with orgasms. Ahem.

When I was seven or eight (possibly even six or younger), I had this odd recurrent daydream that the entire world was just a show put on for the benefit of Mr Bek, that unless I was present to see things, they just...
...CEASED TO EXIST.
Later as I grew older and theoretically more mature, I found other people who had similar daydreams as children. None of us ever really trully believed these theories, but yet...we had all been fascinated by the fact that they could not be disproved.
Even today, as I write this blog, I have no guarantee that anything exists outside of what my five senses report to me (not to say that our senses are any kind of guarantee!).
I have never been to Rome, but I take it on faith that there is a Rome.
I have never seen the earth from space firsthand, yet I trust that the earth is round.
I have never been in the house across the street, yet I assume it has an interior, that it is not just some huge movie set.
As you read this, you cannot see my body, yet you assume that they are here on the other end of the screen.
Even though its not!
All of us perceive the world as a whole through the experience of our senses. Yet our senses can only reveal a world that is fragmented and incomplete. Even the most widely travelled mind can only see so much of the world in the course of a life. Our perception of 'reality' is an act of faith, based on mere fragments.

My Kitten Walks On Velvet Feet And Makes No Sound At All; And In The Doorway Nightly Sits To Watch The Darkness Fall I Think He Loves The Lady, Night And Feels Akin To Her Whose Footsteps Are As Still As His, Whose Touch As Soft As Fur
Lois Weakley McKay
"He will kill mice, and he will be kind to babies when he is in the house, just as long as they do not pull his tail too hard. But when he has done that, and between times, and when the moon gets up and night comes, he is the Cat that walks by himself, and all places are alike to him. Then he goes out to the Wet Wild Woods or up the Wet Wild Trees or on the Wet Wild Roofs, waving his wild tail and walking by his wild lone."
- Rudyard Kipling
