I was born and raised in a small town in Iowa, moving to South Carolina for a short time in 1968, then back to Iowa in 1969, graduating from West High in 1970. After high school I moved to Key West, working as a desk clerk at a little hole in the wall motel, and as a first mate on a six person for hire charterboat. Despite being hijacked to Cuba, working on the Spook was a once in a lifetime experience. After leaving Key West, I decided to join the Air Force, retiring in 1999 after 24 interesting and rewarding years. I was stationed in various locations, including South Carolina, Illinois, Texas, Korea, England, and Utah, with lots of temporary duty at many others. I feel very fortunate to have been able to travel extensively, have a variety of wonderful experiences, and meet some amazing people. My college sweetheart and I have been happily married since 1989, and we have two children: a son, who is a certified K-12 teacher living near Atlanta, and a daughter, who has her MBA, lives near Nashville, and telecommutes for a company in Chicago. They are fantastic kids, and I'm really lucky to be their mom.
