A younger couple moved into a new home next to a house that had a Pit Bull in the fenced in back yard. The man of the couple hated Pit Bulls simply from all the stories he had heard about the viscous baby killing mean aggressive dog Pit Bulls were. The next morning, while they were eating breakfast, the young man sees the pit bull barking horribly and scratching at the fence that separated him from another house, the man wished this Pit Bull were dead.Every morning before work this man would have to listen to this Pit Bull barking and tearing viscously at the fence with claws and teeth,,this only furthered his belief in how Horribly mean and nasty the Pit Bull breed was and he fully understood why there are so many put to death. He wished this Pit Bull were dead as well.Week after week and month after month this man had to wake up to the Horrible, mean Pit Bull next door Fiercely barking and frantically clawing at the fence,he hated this Pit Bull with every thread of life in his body. Finally one morning after waking to the same routine of the MONSTER PIT BULL barking and clawing at the fence he could take it no more, just as he began to call the police the Pit Bull finally tore down a piece of the fence and the man finally saw the reason why so many months day after day this pit bull had ruined his life with all his barking and clawing, there between the crack in the fence the man saw in the yard of the house next door a man holding a belt and towering over a little boy whose limp body lay on the ground covered from head to toe with deep welt marks.,at that moment he realized why week after week month after month this Horrible, mean Pit Bull was ruining his life,he was simply trying to save that little boy's life. The man immediately called the police and in the end the police informed the man that if not for that PIT BULL barking day after day week after week month after month and finally tearing the fence so the man could see, that ,that little boy would have died. The man broke down and cried and asked GOD to forgive him for judging a creature of his creation simply based on the here say of a few humans bent on genocide of a specific breed of animal. Now every morning since the horrible acts by the abusive father the man still has to listen to that same Pit Bull barking and scratching, but now the scratching is on HIS side of the fence, that is until he goes down and gives Brutus a pet on the head and a biscuit and lets HIS new Pit Bull buddy out to play with Brutus......Don't judge a book by its cover for the inside pages of a Pit Bull are one of the best stories you will ever read in your life.... And so it is with life: "What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look. Before we give any criticism, it might be a good idea to check our state of mind and ask ourselves if we are ready to see the good rather than to be looking for something in the person or animal we are about to judge
We all feel anger and maybe even hatred at times. However to stay angry is very unhealthy as well as counter productive. Very empathic people can be especially challenged by moods. My top friend Dr. Judith Orloff is someone i suggest as a great source of information on both negative feelings and masking feelings with food. If you are an empath you may get much value from the wisdom of Dr. Judith Orloff and understanding what it means to be an empath.
Eating a plant based diet can help reduce negative emotions. However i must make a disclaimer. i have personally know many very angry vegans and vegetarians. (i just got off the phone with one, but she is so much more peaceful now as she has been taking six months off from environmental and animal activism! See Dealing with burnout and Balancing Service with self care). There are many reasons for excessive anger — my own beloved husband, www.ArtieBock.com has suffered from excessive anger brought on by the pain suffered and cruelty inflected on animals as well as the devastation of the Earth by humans. (Fortunately he is learning and growing).
i had the opportunity to meet with Lama Kunzang Dorgee, the Buddhist Monk who saved hundreds of farm animals slated for slaughter.
When compassion is not tempered with wisdom, it becomes rage.
Monks mediate from early childhood and science now shows their brain waves are more peaceful. However we cannot all spend our lives mediating. So what to do?
How do we protect ourselves from the many negative influences that surround us in today's world?
Imagine having the inner resolve to sit calmly while burning to death!
Does eating meat make people more angry and violent?
Are we effected by the violence a cow experiences living her whole life in a factory farm and the terror and pain of dying in a slaughterhouse? Does the extreme fear and other negative emotions get imprinted right into meat? I heard a interview giving scientific evidence that it does on my top friend, Go Vegan Radio with Bob Linden Air America talk show host, Bob Linden's goveganradio. com show a couple of years ago. Unfortunately I cannot find podcast of that show. (i have given up looking spent hours listening to his shows, he lived here as our house guest for two months so i know he is way too busy to have an organized archive of all his shows by subject although many past shows are archived) (and very worth hearing!). It offered the scientific evidence of the chemicals, such as adrenaline, uric acid and other uremic poisons, which when animals are consumed by humans, create the negative emotions then unleashed into the humen's bodies and effecting their emotions.
Far fetched? Perhaps, but you can hear world renowned physician and my real life friend, (and also top friend Gabriel) Dr. Gabriel Cousins explain in the following video.
And you can Google organ transplant recipients to learn about memories and emotions of the transplant donors. Whether chemical or something more mystical, or both, it appears to be true, tissues store emotions.
What about plants?
Some people say if vegetables and animals both have lives, how can eating vegetables be less violent than eating meat?
Vegetables do not have a nervous system, and do not scream nor run to avoid pain or death, to me the most obvious answer. Perhaps the ideal situation for a person who wants total non violence would be to eat the ripe fruit that has just fallen off a tree. However that is hardly practical. Vegetable plants and animals both have lives, but eating vegetable is less violent because we do not kill the plant for vegetables. We take leaves, vegetables and fruits off the plants. As any gardener knows by pruning or removing vegetables and fruit from trees, we often lengthen the life of the tree or plant. _________________________________ This article is from: Source: Nature Cures - A Complete Articles of Nature Cures
Auto-Intoxication
Most diseases of the human body are caused by auto-intoxication or self-poisoning. The flesh of animals increases the burden of the organs of elimination and overloads the system with animal waste matter and poisons. Chemical analysis has proved that uric acid and other uremic poisons contained in the animal body are almost identical to caffeine, there and nicotine, the poisonous stimulating principles of coffee, tea and tobacco. This explains why meat stimulates the animal passions and creates a craving for liquor, tobacco and other stronger stimulants. Excessive uric acid resulting from meat-eating also causes diseases such as rheumatism, Bright's disease, kidney stones, gout and gall stones. Meat proteins cause putrefaction twice as rapidly as do vegetable proteins. The morbid matter of the dead animal body is foreign and uncongenial to the excretory organs of man. It is much harder for them to eliminate the waste matter of an animal carcass than that of the human body. Moreover, the formation of ptomains or corpse poisons begins immediately after the death of the animal and meat and poultry are usually kept in cold storage for many days and even months before they reach the kitchen.
Another powerful influence tends to poison the flesh of slaughtered animals. As is well known, emotions of worry, fear and anger actually poison blood and tissues. Imagine the excitable condition of animals after many days of travel, closely packed in shaking vehicles - hungry, thirsty, scared enroute to the slaughter -houses. Many die even before the end of their journey.
Others are driven half dead with fear and exhaustion to the slaughter pans, their instinctive fear of death augmented by the sight and odour of the blood shambles.
Flesh is often a carrier of disease germs. Diseases of many kinds are on the increase in the animals, making flesh foods more and more unsafe. People are continually eating flesh that may contain tuberculosis and cancerous germs. Often animals are taken to the market and sold for food when they are so diseased that their owners do not wish to keep them any longer. And some of the processes of fattening them to increase their weight and consequently their market value , produce disease. Shut away from light and pure air, breathing the atmosphere of filthy stables, perhaps fattening on decaying foods, the entire body now becomes contaminated with foul matter.
"If you care about your emotional health, do not eat meat either. In the hands of a butcher God's creatures naturally experience fear, anger and resentment toward the people whom they trusted in vain. Therefore, on a psychic level meat is naturally permeated with the negative emotions caused by such unjust violence. Hormones that accompany these emotions poison the feelings of those who eat meat. Surely you have noticed how your emotional state changes after such meal. Such needless slaughter also pollutes the emotional atmosphere of our entire planet."
In his book The Sun Food Diet, David Wolfe talks about how fruits are karmically the best food choice. This is because reason the plants freely gave them. Wolfe goes on to say that meat is karmically the most negative because it entails killing and animal. Dairy from enslaved animals is second most negative, followed by root vegetables and seeds. Greens are karmically neutral… The point here is to consider the effects of the foods we choose to eat, and then to eat in the way that creates the least harm. Eating can be Karma Yoga. What Have The Doctors Missed? What have they missed? Since medical science tells us that this condition is caused by an overabundance of androgens (male hormones), the first question to ask is where are these masculinizing hormones coming from? The second question is, how would I get more progesterone and have it be in balance with my estrogen?
In most industrialized countries, including this one, animals are raised in feedlots. In these feedlots, the animals are injected with many types of chemicals in order to stimulate their growth. The bigger the animal, the more money it will bring in. Therefore, since the goal is to grow an animal to its largest possible size as quickly as possible in order to maximize profits, many growth-stimulating chemicals are used. One of the most potent class of growth stimulating chemicals is hormones. Hormones work very well to grow the animal to a very large size in a short amount of time. Unfortunately, the rate of growth is so rapid, many times the animals cannot even support their own weight, and their legs break. It only takes a tiny amount of hormones to have a significant effect on an animal. Therefore, even trace amounts of hormones can have a noticeable effect on growth. Many women have noticed that medicines containing hormones such as Premarin are very tiny pills.
Now, the effects of these hormones are felt in every cell of the body. Estrogenic hormones affect not only the female reproductive organs, but also the muscles, ligaments and the connective tissues. Hormones can therefore be found in any tissue in the body, whether it be an animal or a human. Therefore, when an animal has been injected continually with hormonal substances, these substances accumulate everywhere in the body. When the animal is killed, the flesh that is sold contains traces of these hormones.
Now, when a female ingests this hormone-laden meat, her body responds to the hormonal substances within the meat. Again, it only takes a trace of hormones to have an adverse effect on the body. Medical science tells us that estrogenic hormones cause the lining of the uterus and the breast tissue to grow. The ovaries are also stimulated. However, there are no progesterone-like substances that are injected into the animal to balance the estrogen, so there is too much estrogen in meat and not enough progesterone. Progesterone causes the uterine lining to shed - resulting in a menstrual period. It also causes the breast tissue to stop growing at certain stages of the menstrual cycle. If progesterone is not present in a high enough amount, the uterine lining, the ovaries, and the breasts get over stimulated and they grow too much. On top of this, there may not be enough progesterone to cause the uterine lining to shed which means that menstrual periods stop. The uterine lining keeps growing, but it does not shed. In this situation, toxins build up in the uterus that are normally eliminated during a normal menstrual period. Over time, this abnormal, uncontrolled growth and build up of toxins will likely result in various types of tumorous conditions.
A large portion of estrogenic-like substances may be found in commercial meat. Therefore, if a woman desires hormonal balance in her body, she will decide to stop ingesting products which contain estrogenic-like hormones. Becoming a vegetarian is very important in this respect. A Vegan Soldier? Striving for Peace in an Unpeaceful World. __________________________________ The following is from the blog of a Vegan Soldier
"And when you eat "violent beef," you become more violent yourself. That's why all the pro-war, pro-Bush, pro-military fear-mongers running around this country are mostly steak eaters. That's why Republican politics (the politics of fear, aggression and violence) is so closely tied to cattle ranching and the beef industry. It's also why the military serves beef to all its soldiers: Beef makes soldiers more violent, which makes them "better" soldiers for the Pentagon's campaigns of violence against civilians in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. (Vegetarians would never shoot another human being. Only meat eaters have enough internal fear, anger and violence to pick up a gun and shoot or torture another living being.)
So now we have a national food supply contaminated with mad cow disease and violent emotions. Is it any wonder our population is so sick, diseased and violent? And this is the stuff we're now feeding to our schoolchildren. It's no wonder, then, that our children grow up so disturbed. Combine slaughterhouse beef with TV violence, video game violence and psychotropic drugs, and you have a recipe for behavioral disaster. We're already seeing the results in society today…
Let me be very clear hear to the nearly one million people who read NaturalNews each month: When you eat beef, you directly support the torture and murder of cows. You support violence, and if you actually swallow beef and digest it, you actually absorb violence. You become more angry, fearful and disturbed with every pound of beef you eat. And if you don't believe me, just find 10 people who eat a lot of red meat and compare them to 10 people who are vegans or vegetarians. You'll notice a huge difference in levels of anger, stress and violence: All the vegetarians are non-violent, but the meat eaters are often extremely violent individuals!…
I made that same decision many years ago, and it was an easy one to make. I actually come from a family that was involved in cattle ranching. My grandfather raised cows and sent them to the slaughterhouse. He raised them in open pastures, of course, where they had fresh air, live grass and clean water. They were very healthy cows compared to the factory farm animals raised today in Greeley, Colorado. Nevertheless, they were still slaughtered, and every few months, I remember the freezer in our home was stocked with nearly a hundred pounds of frozen beef.
Oblivious to the health implications and ethical considerations, I ate beef by the pound growing up. I thought it was normal, much like most American consumers do today. I ate pork ribs, beef steak, ham sandwiches, sausage, bacon and all the other traditional meat-eating foods you can think of.
But after learning the truth about the beef industry, I made a conscious decision to avoid eating beef for life. I also decided to avoid eating pork. I still eat fish and seafood from time to time, but I'm sure that's next on my list of things to remove from my diet. Upon shifting to a largely plant-based diet (rich with fresh juices and "Juice Feasting"), my health dramatically improved and my moods became far more stable. I began to understand the futility of war and the horrors of violence committed against people, animals and nature, and that's part of what got me on this path of teaching natural health and humility towards Mother Nature…
If you examine the history of every major religion, you'll find that virtually all spiritual leaders avoided eating meat. Jesus Christ is included on that list… (But that's a whole different article...) Some interesting reading on the history of religions and vegetarianism can be found here:
Part 2 Sugar and Your Mood Why moods can tempt you to indulge — and what to do about it
By Pamela Donegan WebMD Weight Loss Clinic - Feature
Reviewed By Kathleen Zelman, MPH, RD/LD
It's one of those days. Deadlines looming. Meetings all morning. The boss on a rampage. Your assistant out sick. Your inbox overflowing. And it's only Monday afternoon! You're overwhelmed and exhausted, and all you can think about is that candy bar stashed in your desk drawer. You reach for it, your mouth watering in anticipation. You're sure it's just the thing to boost your energy and calm your nerves.
But is it really? Not according to Robert Thayer, PhD, professor of psychology at California State University in Long Beach and author of Calm Energy: How People Regulate Mood with Food and Exercise. Thayer's research has shown that the boost in mood people get from sweet snacks like your candy bar is short lived at best.
"In fact, in one study, we found that people were more tense and tired an hour after they had eaten a candy bar than before it," says Thayer.
So why do we crave sweet snacks at times of stress? For one, they taste great. OK, that's a no-brainer, but a megadose of sugar does more than tickle your taste buds. It actually stimulates your brain's pleasure center while temporarily lowering your body's sensitivity to pain. Healthcare professionals who work with newborns often take advantage of this by putting sugar drops on an infant's tongue to ease the distress caused by medical procedures.
It isn't just the sugar, though. High-fat content in food also creates pleasurable sensations and lessens pain. In a 1997 study in Britain, volunteers who ate high-fat pancakes an hour and a half before dunking their hands into ice-cold water reported less discomfort than others who had eaten equally caloric, but low-fat, pancakes.
The other draw of the sugary, high-fat snack is the fuel it provides. "When people are experiencing negative moods, and also when they are experiencing stress, they need energy," says Thayer. "And food is a very elemental form of energy."
Of course, most of us don't settle for any old food when we feel run down. We go for the gold: sugary, energy-dense treats such as ice cream, cookies, and chocolate. These foods are crammed with easily digested carbohydrates, which the body converts into glucose -- the simple sugar that circulates in the blood to fuel our cells.
Unfortunately, the quick fix that sweet snacks provide is all too fleeting. People often end up eating still more carbohydrates in an attempt to revive their energy levels after the rush wears off.
Why do it, then? Thayer says it is because people are more or less hardwired to respond to instant gratification.
"You may know that you will be feeling bad in 10 minutes or 15 minutes or an hour, but it is the immediate effect that controls your behavior," he says.
There's still more bad news about sugary foods. Larry Christensen, PhD, chairman of the department of psychology at the University of South Alabama, believes that eating sucrose-containing (sugar-containing) foods may actually cause depression in some people. In his studies, he eliminated sugar from the diets of depressed people and found that about 25% saw a significant improvement in mood.
"Taking sugar out of the diet and adding it back in can turn depression off and on like a faucet."
"For some people, taking sugar out of the diet and adding it back in can turn their depression off and on like a faucet," says Christensen. "It can take a week or two weeks to have an effect, but most people will feel better in a week." It's not clear why sugar has such a profound effect on mood, but it may be linked to exhaustion. "Sugar boosts energy initially, but then it has the paradoxical effect of inducing fatigue," explains Christensen. "And if an individual is constantly fatigued, things are hard to do, and it's easy to become very pessimistic."
A Place for Comfort Foods
But before you throw out that secret stash of extra Halloween candy, remember this: You may not be one of those people who is especially sensitive to sugar, and as long as you partake of sweets in moderation, they probably won't do you any harm.
Also, according to one recent study, there may be a good reason for craving comfort food during tough times. When researchers at the University of California in San Francisco subjected rats to chronic stress over a few days, they found that the rodents preferred to eat sugar and fat.
"Not the ordinary, everyday boring food, not the regular rat chow," says Mary F. Dallman, professor of physiology at the University of California, San Francisco, and the chief investigator on the study. "They went for sucrose and fat."
And when the rats ate these foods, their brains produced less of the stress-related hormones that normally trigger the fight-or-flight response. "To me, this is enormously exciting," says Dallman. "I think this is the first data that show that there might be something good about eating comfort food."
The study also uncovered another interesting wrinkle: Rats who build up more abdominal fat -- the rodent equivalent of a spare tire -- also have a lower response to stress. "It's like what your grandma told you: the happy fat man; the mean lean. It's like a folk tale," says Dallman.
She and her colleagues haven't figured out how abdominal fat signals the brain, but they are working on it. In the meantime, she cautions that people should not get carried away by the benefits of a big belly.
"Abdominal obesity is specifically associated with type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and stroke," she says. "If you don't exercise it off, you've got big, bad problems."
So don't dive for the doughnuts whenever you're in distress. It's a sure path to weight gain. In fact, according to Thayer, the current epidemic of obesity in the U.S. may stem from stress-induced eating.
"Over the past two decades or so, there's been a steady ramping up of stress and also depression in society, and I think what's happening is that people are trying to self-regulate with food," Thayer says. "I think it is a very likely explanation for the changes in weight and obesity that are being observed nowadays."

Part Three: How To Manage Your and Other's Anger Right Now
i am compiling two bulletins, one i saved for a long time, one more to come that i did not want to squeeze in.
This is for a lot of my friends who have shared a lot of hate of a certain vice presidential candidate.
i also want to add i have a very dear real life friend who practices the form of communication illustrated to deal with other's anger. It is called NVC (Non Violent Communication). It can be very amazing and insightful if used by a master like the founder Marshall B. Rosenberg. If used by someone like my friend (or a woman i took a class from), it can sound insincere or robot like. If you are very empathic, you may be able to sense that beneath the communication the person saying "i understand how you are feeling" is seething with rage. My friend was raped several times and is still dealing with that. i always encourage her to feel her feelings. She is making slow progress.
Marshall B. Rosenberg, Ph.D., author of the internationally acclaimed Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life, and Speak Peace in a World of Conflict, has taken up where Gandhi, King and other past visionary leaders for peace left off.
An internationally renowned peacemaker, Rosenberg's credentials rank him as one of the foremost new leaders for world peace. His visionary communication process, Nonviolent Communication (NVC), is the cornerstone of what global leaders, educators and beyond are identifying as the missing link to the solution we all seek.
Viewed through NVC eyes, all anger and violence - both in the world at large and in our own personal lives - is a counter-productive attempt by people to meet their needs.
Life isn't always fair. As a result, you get angry and frustrated - sometimes very quickly.
However, after you've completely vented, you suddenly wish you could have had some degree of control over your emotions. Quite understandable in retrospect.
Of all human feelings, anger is probably the most difficult emotion to restrain. Being able to manage it well is the real mark of an effective person.
So, how can you learn to manage or harness your anger? Here are some tips:
1. Breathe deeply. Anger is an abstract term used to encapsulate that feeling of rage and passionate displeasure over something, someone, or maybe even yourself. It may feel so overwhelming that you actively seek ways to release it. You imagine yourself bursting into pieces if you fail to do so.
However, simply releasing it and exploding in fury often times results in a complete mess - leaving a trail of hurt feelings, unkind words, and damaged relations.
There is a better way of releasing anger systematically. Just breathe - inhale and exhale. In thru the nose, out thru the mouth. Fill your brain and body with oxygen, and then count from one to ten. If you have an extremely hostile thought about someone, try this - count down from fifty to one until the anger subsides.
2. Never release your anger on people or objects. This is a typical mistake people make when they can't contain what they feel. What is punching someone or pounding the mirror going to accomplish? Don't throw that flower vase or engagement ring across the room either. It accomplishes nothing.
The list can go on, but the bottom line is this: there is no point in lashing out at people or objects. You will only regret your actions later; and there is no sense of accomplishment in having to pay for items that are now ruined. The damage is done and you will only feel deep remorse.
3. Refrain from doing anything rash when you are angry. Rational thinking eludes you when you are overwhelmed or engulfed by emotions. In that state of fury, it is almost impossible to be rational about the things you do or say. It is only after you've unleashed your anger that you begin to realize the greater damage being done, and then you feel regret and sorry afterwards. Even if you do ask for forgiveness, sometimes it may just be too late. You have already hurt someone's feelings irreparably.
To prevent complicating matters, seek relief with a little solitude and quiet.
Do not curse either – you may be liable for slander, defamation, or verbal abuse. Control yourself.
If you have something to say, make sure it will reap positive results.
4. If you really, really need to express your anger, leave and go somewhere else. If you need to say something badly or shout, go someplace where no one can hear you. Go to the washroom and shout as loud as you can.
Better yet, release your anger by shouting in front of a mirror. When in front of a mirror, you will realize that anger doesn't look good on you at all. In many cases, people laugh when seeing weird, contorted, and funny versions of themselves in the mirror.
5. Evaluate the reason for your anger. When you calm down, look at the bigger picture. Realize that you may be putting the blame on others, forgetting that you are also accountable for the misunderstanding.
Ask yourself: What caused your anger? What triggered your fury? How did you react? What was the result? What will you do the next time? How can this experience turn you into a better person?
Sometimes, the problem might only be in the way you look at things. Maybe it is time for a change in perspective. Bitterness, pessimism, and skepticism will only hamper your capability to establish meaningful relationships with people. Rather than taking this disruptive route, take advantage of the lessons that can be learned from such experience.
(I, Michael Skowronski, did modify this only slightly to add some of my own tips and statements and correct grammar and punctuation)
How to Handle Other Peoples Anger By Michael Atma
How many times have you been confronted by an angry person, be it a workmate, a customer or a loved one only to feel at a loss for how to handle them without losing your cool?
What if you knew how to stay calm while everyone else around you was losing their cool, how would that be?
Fortunately there are some simple anger management techniques that you could be applying right now that can make your life easier and give you the confidence to deal with irrational and hot-headed people.
Here are 5 simple anger management techniques to get you started
1) Use Positive Self Talk
There are things that you can say to yourself quietly in your mind when faced with another person's anger. This kind of talk is called self talk. The most important person you will talk to every day is yourself. It is from this talk that you can begin to take charge of your physical and emotional responses. Anger management activities for your mind...
'When someone gets angry, I get calm'
'Anger is just a temporary state of insanity - it will pass'
'I wonder what this person is really angry about'
'His/Her anger is his/her issue – It makes no statement about me, only him/her'
'I choose to respond calmly no matter how angry you get'
'I can choose to walk away if I feel uncomfortable or afraid'
'I am responsible for my own feelings and I can choose to respond instead of reacting'
Keep this list with you, and if you like add some of your own positive statements. Choose the one that you most relate to and then affirm it to yourself every day for five minutes.
Don't be discouraged if you forget your positive statement the first few times. Just continue to memorize it and repeat it constantly especially of you know you are going to face an angry person.
2) Acknowledge Their Feelings
When someone is angry, they have powerful emotions fuelling their thoughts and actions. As most of us are not taught how to manage powerful emotions like anger, frustration, rage or jealousy we revert to our conditioned behaviour. During moments of anger people become irrational and illogical because these feelings overwhelm their rational mind. The fastest way to diffuse these feelings is to not judge them in another. To do this, you must also be comfortable to face your own anger.
Use statements such as:
'You seem to be very annoyed'
'I understand that you are angry'
When you use statements like these try to speak in a calm, sincere and assertive tone, despite how much you might want to criticize them.
3) Listen First, Ask Questions Later
Most angry people just want to be heard. The secret to diffusing their anger is to simply acknowledge what they are saying without trying to judge or change it.
The moment that you negate or oppose what they are saying you're adding fuel to the fire.
To overcome this try repeating back some of the main points or comments that have been made such as:
'So what you are saying is that you don't like it when...'
'Ok, I understand that you don't like to be woken up by the neighbour's dog'
One of the secrets to making a connection with someone who is angry is to know that anger comes from not feeling loved or understood.
Just by talking the time to find out why they are angry can sometimes be enough to let the other person know you are listening and care about them.
4) Check Your Body Language
When you find yourself in a situation where you are being confronted by an angry person do your best to match the position of your body with them. If they are standing up and talking down to you, then change your body position by standing up also. If they are sitting, then sit down so that you are at the same level so that they do not take your body posture as a threat.
Always keep in mind that safety comes first. Never allow anyone to encroach upon your personal space. Always keep a safe distance between you and the person confronting you so there are no accidents.
If this means keeping yourself close to exit, then do so. The other option is to keep a piece of furniture between you and the other person. By matching the body language of the other person it allows for a more non-threatening experience for both. Try not to ask any questions until after the person has finished their outburst. That way no-one needs to get frustrated by unsatisfactory answers.
5) Share Your Own Feelings
This can be a great diffuser of tension and help you to take back control of the situation. This is especially true if the other person is normally even tempered. The strategy here is to use 'I' statements instead of 'you' statements. The reasoning behind this is that you are then taking responsibility for your own emotions and not trying to blame them for how you feel. Blaming or accusing others for how you feel in any situation will only fuel the fire.
Some examples include:
'I feel angry when you shout at me like that' (Instead of, 'You make me so angry when you yell')
'I feel scared when you lose control of your temper' (Instead of, You are scaring me')
'I'm so upset right now that I don't know what to think or say' (Instead of, You are making me so upset that I I don't know what I might do')
Mastering the skill of anger management both within yourself and others is a powerful gift to give yourself and those you love. It is also a gift that lasts a lifetime. I highly recommend you find an anger management program or even an anger management class to join.
This is by far the fastest way to accelerate your skill level and start enjoying the benefits of a calmer, happier and more stress free life!
(CNN) -- The number of eggs recalled in a nationwide salmonella scare has grown to more than half a billion.
Iowa egg producer Hillandale Farms of Iowa is voluntarily recalling some 170.4 million eggs distributed to stores and companies that service, or are located in, 14 states, a spokeswoman at the Egg Safety Center said on Friday.
The Hillandale eggs were distributed under the Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms, and Sunny Meadow brand names in six-egg cartons, dozen-egg cartons, 18-egg cartons, 30-egg packages, and five-dozen-egg cases, the website for the Egg Safety Center said.
Loose eggs, which could be repackaged by customers, were packaged under the Wholesome Farms and West Creek brands in 15- and 30-dozen tray packs, according to the Egg Safety Center.
The eggs affected by this recall either have plant number P1860 with date codes ranging from 099 to 230, or plant number P1663 and date codes ranging from 137 to 230, the website said.
The salmonella outbreak prompted Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa, which began recalling eggs last week, to increase its recall to 380 million eggs on Wednesday.
The number of salmonella cases is expected to grow because infections after July 17 may not have been reported yet due to a two- to three-week lag between when a person becomes sick and when the case gets reported in the system, the CDC said.
"We would certainly characterize this as one of the largest shell egg recalls in recent history," Sherri McGarry of the Food and Drug Administration said in a conference call Thursday.
On July 9, the FDA announced it had new safety rules for large-scale egg producers, but that came after the salmonella outbreak apparently began.
"The outbreak could have been prevented." McGarry said. "The egg safety rule is in a phase-in approach, but there are measures that would have been in place that could have prevented this if it been placed earlier than in July."
The FDA's new rules cover refrigeration of stored and transported eggs, pasteurization, rodent control, cleanliness and they require a written Salmonella enteritidis prevention plan. The agency said "implementing the preventive measures would reduce the number of Salmonella enteritidis infections from eggs by nearly 60 percent."
Animal welfare groups have criticized conditions of farms operated by Wright County Egg, including the Maine Contract Farming facility in Turner, Maine.
Mercy for Animals, a nonprofit animal welfare group, conducted an undercover video investigation of the farm in 2009, and forwarded its findings to Maine animal welfare officials.
Jack DeCoster, who leads Wright County Egg, in June pleaded guilty to 10 civil counts of animal cruelty over his company's treatment of its chickens, said Dr. Donald E. Hoenig, state veterinarian.
DeCoster and his company agreed to a $25,000 fine and made a $100,000 payment to reimburse the state for future monitoring of the facility.
Allegations included too many birds in case, injured chickens not being treated, dead animals not being promptly removed from cages and improper euthanization, Hoenig told CNN.
"Since then, the company . has followed all of our requirements," he said.
"It's no surprise that these birds that are crammed together, basically defacating on top of other birds," said Dan Hauff, director of investigations for Mercy for Animals. "It's no surprise that this is the outcome, this type of outbreak."
Thoroughly cooking eggs kills salmonella bacteria within, but there is still risk of cross-contamination if a food preparer doesn't properly wash kitchen utensils, such as whisks or spatulas, that came into contact with the raw eggs. Undercooked food also leaves the consumer at risk of infection.
Salmonella, which is generally contracted from contaminated poultry, meat, eggs, or water, affects the intestinal tract.
Symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps, which typically begin within 12 to 72 hours, according to the CDC. Vomiting, chills, headache and muscle pains also may occur, according to the Mayo Clinic. These symptoms last about four to seven days, and then go away without specific treatment in healthy people. Antidiarrheal medications may help with cramps, but they may also prolong the diarrhea, the Mayo Clinic said.
The elderly, infants, and people with impaired immune systems are at heightened risk for developing a more serious illness because of salmonella, the CDC said. Some people can develop life-threatening complications if the infection spreads beyond the intestines.
Chickens can pass the bacteria to eggs because the eggs leave hens through the same passageway as feces, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Alternatively, bacteria in the hen's ovary or oviduct can get to the egg before the shell forms around it, FSIS said.
After the uptick in salmonella infections, the CDC and the FDA traced the source and determined it was most likely eggs from Wright County Egg. The company says it is working to determine how the shell eggs are being contaminated.
"Wright County Egg is fully cooperating with FDA's investigation by undertaking this voluntary recall," the company said in a statement. "Our primary concern is keeping salmonella out of the food supply and away from consumers. As a precautionary measure, Wright County Egg also has decided to divert its existing inventory of shell eggs from the recalled plants to a breaker, where they will be pasteurized to kill any salmonella bacteria present."
Krista Eberle, director of food safety programs at the Egg Safety Center, which is run by United
Egg Producers, a cooperative of U.S. egg farmers, reiterated that only shell eggs are affected by the Wright County recall.
"From what we know they only do shell eggs, and if they did extra egg products, they are still considered to be safe," Eberle said. She added that egg products such as egg whites and dried eggs go through pasteurization and extensive heat treatment, so they're considered safe to eat and the Egg Safety Center is not concerned the other products might be sullied with bacteria.
Country Eggs, Inc. on Thursday said it is voluntary recalling specifically-dated shell eggs produced by Wright County Egg. Eggs were distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centers and food-service companies in California, Arizona and Nevada, according to a statement. Eggs were packaged under the Country Eggs, Inc. brand name in 15 dozen bulk pack with the identifying plant code of P 1946 and P 1026. Julian date codes are 216-221. Dates and codes can be found on the box label.
In addition, NuCal Foods, which, on its website, calls itself the largest distributor of shell eggs in the western United States, announced Thursday it was "voluntarily recalling specific . dates of shell eggs produced by Wright County Egg and packaged by NuCal Foods because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella."
Wednesday's recall covers eggs branded as Albertsons, Farm Fresh, James Farms, Glenview, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma, Lund, Kemps and Pacific Coast and are marked with a three-digit code ranging from 136 to 229 and plant numbers1720 and 1942, the company said.
The earlier recall covered the Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps brands that were marked with with a three-digit code ranging from 136 to 225 and plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946.
The four-digit plant number begins with "P - " and is followed by the three-digit code.
Both recalls affect eggs packed in several different sized cartons, from a half-dozen to 18 eggs.
Only shell eggs are affected by the recall, the company said.
Consumers are encouraged to return the eggs in their original packaging to where they were purchased for a full refund.
