A while back I posted a blog asking if anyone had any idea what was making a home in black drainage tubing that at one time was a french drain from a downspout no longer there.
Today I got to see what goes inside , As I was making dinner I seen a squirrel walking all around the area,
and all of a sudden he went into the drain tube underground, and then shortly came back out, so I'm assuming this is the Critter using this for what ever reason,
I'm posting this because some have asked me to let them know when I find out.
Again here are the pictures of the 4 inch drain underground,
At one time This was a french drain from a down spout and when the screened patio was added the area was extended and moved.
this was corrugated drain pipe below ground that was left and I have been adding dirt to raise this area so it would be covered.
now I come out and find something dug the opening out removing the dirt and going inside the tubing. first I thought a rabbit, yet rabbits usually cover opening with grass and branches. it's to large of a opening for mice or snakes.to small for a racoon.
Does anyone have any idea's what could be making a home in such a big opening?
Here are some pictures to give you a idea and if you look. you will see the black tubing inside.
Every November you hear the sound of the Sandhill Cranes that migrate here in the Hiawassee refuge near my home from the North Great lakes area. This Morning I heard the Cranes in the skies. They are back.
If you listen to this video, you will get a chance to learn more and hear what the cranes sound like in the sky. I love seeing and hearing them. and also upset over the TWRA decision
I keep my Lawn mowers, shovels and my weedeater which I place upside down under my back deck.
Using my weedeater each week I was finding a start of a nest being started in the flap of the weed eater, taking the weed eater away the small start of that nest would be removed,
One day while I was at a Goodwill store I found a open bird nest box. Put it together and attached it to piller under the deck hoping the bird would use that and not build a nest behind the flap of the weedeater,
For days I watched and nothing was happening in the nest box . Then it came time to use the weedeater again and to my surprise this time I find a large round nest with a hole in it and one egg in it.
All I could do is take that nest and place it in that open box and hope for the best.
It worked the Mom returned added more eggs and sits on her nest in the new location.
When I'm under the deck to get something I look at Mom or Dad on the nest looking back at me, But they stay there feeling safe and content with the new Location.
Found out the birds are Carolina Chickadees
Here is a picture of a open nest box to give you a Idea what it is.
And here are pictures of that nest inside the nesting box I moved it to. You can see the small hole for birds to enter the nest
