Posted On 11/26/2010 04:23:51

Here's another I did for the CPC Friday Fling poetry challenge I host with Michelle K.  Our theme is Black Friday and the suggested format of the week is simple couplets.

The CPC Friday Fling Writes the Good Fight on Black Friday!

This is a special preview for the CPC Friday Fling poetry challenge.  Poems should be posted there when the challenge opens on Thursday at 9 P.M. EST.

Last weekend we experienced "Black Saturday," when the last of our precious links to the old MySpace blog software were cut. The Friday after Thanksgiving is notoriously known as "Black Friday" in the US because that is historically the busiest Christmas shopping season day of the year, when hordes of gift-givers descend on stores and shopping malls all over the nation on their day off, expend the energy acquired by their Thanksgiving dinners the night before and the money they've managed to save for Christmas shopping since the year before.

Perfect time to celebrate or vent about this controversial event!

Since Black Friday runs fast and loose as shoppers begin to rise in the middle of the night - and some never go to bed, just get in line - to prepare for their attack and plan ways to Target their goals and rake the compdetition over the Kohls, Michelle chose to give you all a break today and write in mere couplets.

Couplets are pairs of lines, usually rhyming and perhaps sharing a similar syllable count and/or cadence. Such as these, one of which which narrowly missed becoming The Line in this month's Saturday Share challenge until our Peerless Leader thought better of it:

You can stay or you can go
Is it yes or is it no?

If you've ever written a poem in couplets, you know it can be difficult to just eat - er write - one! Well I can tell you confidently that they are NOT FATTENING, contain NO CARBS OR TRANS FATS, so you can write as many as you like!

This week the Friday Fling writes couplets about the "official" opening of the Christmas shopping season!

Be sure to save some money - I mean of course time - to read and comment forcefully on your fellow shoppers' stories of seasonal shenanigans. Then get out there and do what God intended American to do on Black Friday! Shop till you drop, or at least until you get tired of it!

As always, should this week's challenge not be exactly what you were looking for, you can post just about anything you've written lately that you'd like to be read by somebody other than yourself. Just try to keep it fairly brief and fit for more or less civilized poets to read.

POEM: Mayhem on Black Friday
Posted On 11/25/2010 10:21:55

This is for the CPC Friday Fling Poetry challenge.  We're writing couplets about Black Friday.

The downside of Pic n Poeming is in order to edit later, you have to go to the photo editor and essentially start over.  If I had to write this over again I'd make it flow better, thusly:

Target store opens at four in the morning,

There's naught like a surfeit, too much always will do,
