In much of the country this time of year, it is difficult for pets to be outside for extended periods. Cold winds, snow and ice take their toll. That got us thinking about our favorite animals and what makes them happy.
As many of you know, my cohost Michelle K. is a master of poetry formats. She has never been known to find one she could not handle well! At least I have never known her to falter at formal poetry. I asked her choose this week’s format, so she picked one of her favorites, the Terzanelle, defined by ShadowPoetry.com as
a poetry type which is a combination of the villanelle and the terza rima forms. It is a 19-line poem consisting of five interlocking triplets/tercets plus a concluding quatrain in which the first and third lines of the first triplet appear as refrains. The middle line of each triplet is repeated, reappearing as the last line of the succeeding triplet with the exception of the center line of the next-to-the-last stanza which appears in the quatrain. The rhyme and refrain scheme for the triplets is as follows:
1. A 2. B 3. A
4. b 5. C 6. B
7. c 8. D 9. C
10. d 11. E 12. D
13. e 14. F 15. E
Ending Type 1:
16. f 17. A 18. F 19. A
Ending Type 2:
16. f 17. F 18. A 19. A
Each line of the poem should be the same metrical length.
September
September, drifting in with glow of moon, You stifle Summer’s ardor. . . and she grieves. In guise of fire, then Fall comes all too soon.
Your breath grows cool. You’ll blow and loosen leaves. The hills and woodlands will reflect new hues. You stifle Summer’s ardor. . . and she grieves.
In Autumn’s chill, the colors are a ruse. For as you pass, the trees are set ablaze. The hills and woodlands then reflect new hues.
Though warmth may linger through your final days, old Sun is waning, yet he still seems strong! For as you pass, the trees are set ablaze.
September, you’re a melancholy song. Though time be short, you paint a brilliant dusk! Old sun is waning, yet he still seems strong.
October looms. . . Your ending will be brusque. September, drifting in with glow of moon, though time be short, you paint a brilliant dusk. In guise of fire, then Fall comes all too soon.
This week the Friday Fling writes Terzanelles about our favorite animals!
Be sure to take some time to enjoy your fellow pals’ anim(al)ations. Then do your best to enjoy your weekend in as much comfort as possible under the circumstances! -Bob/Scotorum and Michelle K.
As usual, should you not feel comfy with this week’s challenge, you may post anything you have recently produced on any topic and in any format or lack thereof that you prefer, as long as it is suitable for our family blog group’s eyes and minds.

About the artist (by the artist):
I'm a painter/tattoo artist from San Francisco living in Paris. I have a dream to speak french fluently. I love to read. All my money goes to books, mostly art related books for research, buying my literature at garage sales. I like old stuff; vintage clothes, asian antiques, fifties furniture and advertising graffics. I sew my own clothes, so there's a little fasination of the Parisian fashion world. I'm always super busy with a million projects. Everything you see in the slide below is available as a print. Contact me for the prices. I also do illustration projects for bands, magazines or I can design your next tattoo! Currently I tattoo in Paris, France. I do a lot of conventions, look for me in your town soon.

To some… As winter approaches and half the world fades into colors of Whites, Blacks, and Grays a subdued quiet overtakes Our minds as we huddle indoors for warmth Past vibrant sunny days become only a memory To hold our winter smiles
To others… The somber winter does not impede their love and joy For the changing outdoors and they rejoice in the Colors of winter.
So today we shall explore The Colors… no matter how minute or grand.
