Driving home from our favorite seafood restaurant tonight, three days after Thanksgiving, I was struck by how quickly so many people have hoisted their Christmas decorations outside and inside their homes! And that got me thinking about all the variations, and how they reflect what people want to show, show off or represent about themselves in these weeks leading up to what most Americans still consider the Most Important Holday of the year.
How about expressing in poetry what you do to decorate for the Christmas holiday season, and/or what others do that you either admire or abhor?
Last week we did couplets, and some put them into four line stanzas. This week, how about we continue to the next lesson and do alternating line rhymes, ABAB, CDCD, EFEF, etc. You set the beat, cadence or rhythm with the number of syllables you choose for each line, set or varied.
For example:
Cheery Christmas decoration wreaths hung in windows bright greenery for inspiration of the shining divine light.
This week the Friday Fling has a Christmas Decoration Party in ABAB rhyme!
Be sure to save a string of lights - er time - to read and comment decorously on your fellow Pals' poetic displays. Then, if you haven't already, go decorate something this weekend! -Bob/Scotorum and Michelle K.
As usual, should the challenge not be to your taste, you may display anything you have written lately as long as it is relatively compact and is more or less fit for a family blog. The important thing is always to Be Creative and Have Fun!
Fickle Finger of Fate Award For November 26th
Congratulations Barbara!

WELCOME to the CPC Triple Crown Challenge ~ hosted by Colleen B!! Challenge your mind and write a great poem in the process! The beauty of nature often inspires a poet in many ways. Take a look at this picture and see where your mind takes you. You can write in free verse or a structured format such as a sonnet, pantoum or etheree, etc.... The choice is yours.
But remember, this is a challenge -- so there are a few rules that will test you and expand your creative boundaries. You must complete the following three criteria in order to be considered for the CPC Triple Crown Award. So come on, put on your thinking caps and write a winner!
"Hint of Autumn" by Colleen M. Breuning (c) 2010
To qualify to compete for the Triple Crown Challenge award banner, you must complete all 3 criteria:
1. Write a poem 40 lines or less inspired by the above photograph taken by Colleen Breuning.
2. Use this phrase somewhere within the poem. It can double as the title to your poem, but the phrase must appear within the body of your poem:
"sound of the soul"
3. Use as many of these 10 challenge words in the body of your poem as you can. You don't have to use them all -- this is the most difficult part of the challenge. Use enough words to enhance your poem, you want it to make sense. Don't force it. If you can use them all and are able to produce a great poem, bonus points for you!

You can use variations of these words, such as "gently," "fortold" or "listening". When you post your poem or picture poem in the blog, please indicate that you used all the challenge words. If you did not use them all, list which ones you did. The more you use, the better chance you have of winning.
There will be two grand prize winners who will be awarded a "CPC Triple Crown Winner" Banner to display in their blogs or on their site. One will be awarded to the best poem, and one to the best picture poem that incorporates all of the 3 above criteria. Depending on the turnout, there might even be a couple of Honorable Mentions! The Grand prize winners will be announced at the CPC blog approximately a week after the challenge closes.
But this blog is not just about the fantastic prizes ... if you just want to play along and not compete for the big grand prize, you can post any poem you wish without meeting the criteria. So please, don't let the rules stop you from creating your own poem. The main objective is to be inspired and to create. Just see where your muse takes you, with or without the help of these pictures, and have some fun with it. It doesn't necessarily have to be an autumn themed write just because it's a picture of a lake with autumn leaves .... use your imagination, give it a twist if you like!
Good luck, poets ... and happy writing..... I can't wait to see what you come up with! The challenge will open on Monday night, November 29, 2010 at 9 pm and run through Tuesday, November 30. Poems eligible for prizes MUST be posted before midnight on December 1, 2010.
HUGS,
Colleen B

This week's artist hails from France.
About the artist, by the artist (roughly translated): Having studied fine arts and graphic arts Tours ... I immediately found in the world of "publicity". For 20 years my job was only to lie. No it's not true there is no laundry that washes whiter than white and small marmots do not pack the chocolate with their little paws! If you could get white teeth for the whole street will help you move it will not (A true mover well muscled it's still best not to look!) After all the lies of faked photographs or slogans Stolen ... My body has spoken ... and a little fairy came to me (yes it's true I'm not crazy!) since it will ride on my shoulder. My magic wand to me is my brush and my fairy dust is the color. Who I am ... I told you in my painting and singing sometimes gay and other dark and sad days. I'll let you see my feelings, my depravity, my love, my love not, my friends, my enemies, my fragility, my sweetness in two words: MY LIFE. THIS WEEK'S FEATURED ART "Ma Vie En Rouge" (MY LIFE IN RED) please use on this piece of art for your inspiration
*****As Always*****
Be respectful of each other and give credit where credit is due.
Here's a musical mix for you all to enjoy. It starts off with a track from our featured artist's favorite singer. The rest are random choices. You must press play to partake...we like to keep the option of peace and quiet for those who do not want it.
Now, let's create something beautiful! Please take some time and hit the CPC tag on the Boomer "Hot Tag" listing and visit your fellow poets blogs!!!

Fling #109 11/26/10
Last weekend we experienced "Black Saturday," when the last of our precious links to the old MySpace blog software were cut. The Friday after Thanksgiving is notoriously known as "Black Friday" in the US because that is historically the busiest Christmas shopping season day of the year, when hordes of gift-givers descend on stores and shopping malls all over the nation on their day off, expend the energy acquired by their Thanksgiving dinners the night before and the money they've managed to save for Christmas shopping since the year before.
Perfect time to celebrate or vent about this controversial event!
Since Black Friday runs fast and loose as shoppers begin to rise in the middle of the night - and some never go to bed, just get in line - to prepare for their attack and plan ways to Target their goals and rake the compdetition over the Kohls, Michelle chose to give you all a break today and write in mere couplets.
Couplets are pairs of lines, usually rhyming and perhaps sharing a similar syllable count and/or cadence. Such as these, one of which which narrowly missed becoming The Line in this month's Saturday Share challenge until our Peerless Leader thought better of it:
You can stay or you can go Is it yes or is it no?
If you've ever written a poem in couplets, you know it can be difficult to just eat - er write - one! Well I can tell you confidently that they are NOT FATTENING, contain NO CARBS OR TRANS FATS, so you can write as many as you like!
This week the Friday Fling writes couplets about the "official" opening of the Christmas shopping season!
Be sure to save some money - I mean of course time - to read and comment forcefully on your fellow shoppers' stories of seasonal shenanigans. Then get out there and do what God intended American to do on Black Friday! Shop till you drop, or at least until you get tired of it!
As always, should this week's challenge not be exactly what you were looking for, you can post just about anything you've written lately that you'd like to be read by somebody other than yourself. Just try to keep it fairly brief and fit for more or less civilized poets to read.
Fickle Finger of Fate Award For November 19th
Congratulations Mindy!

Hi Cheryl...
If I tag CPC in the blog posted on mypage here...do you get it or do I have to separately post it in on the CPC page here?
I tagged you in the Magic Monday post...let me know? thanks! Demme...
Demme, If you put "CPC" in the tag, from the Boomer Home page (there is a "Hot Tag" addvert) we can click on CPC and all the blogs posted on Boomer with CPC will come up on the search from there. What I expect we will do in future is treat the CPC here like how Blogophilia opperates and folks will go to each other blog posts and comment that way, since the comment capability here is less than desirable......... As of now splitting my time between here and the CPC (MySpace) makes my ability to implement that a chore. Also, I need to take some time and put CPC "Boomer" blog management guidlines out for the crew. Things are in such flux at the moment!!! But we will find our rythum ~ it's just a matter of time!!! Muah, Cheryl
