About the artist (by the artist):
I believe in the power of art to transform and uplift; I believe in the power of touch to heal...
Besides my art, I am also a massage therapist. I have my own line of products, which you can find at my etsy shop.
My favorite artists are Matisse, Bonnard, Chagall, Klee, Kandinsky, Kollwitz, Kahlo, Cassatt, O'Keefe, Rockwell, Disney, Maplethorpe and David Hickman, above and beyond,last but not least, my teacher, my mentor, my friend and supporter. I recently heard of his passing and was overwhelmed with grief. I thought to myself, "How could this be, he is always with me. I want to celebrate his life!" He was a marine, an artist, a teacher, a father and a husband. So few people may ever rise to their potential, as well as he, in all that he embraced with dignity, integrity, honesty, kindness and patience. He taught at the University of Houston for 40 years. I feel blessed to have known such a phenomenal artist and amazing human being, for the decade that I have and hold him, still, in a special place in my heart. I have only recently discovered his daughter, Sara has a My Space profile, she is an artist musician, and poetess herself. She is very earthy, friendly and genuine if you are looking to scout out more talent.
This portrait of my son is in David's memory, a gift to my son, who is serving in Japan.
I put about six hours into this one night and a few the next and am further along than I thought. As you can see, I draw and paint as I go along from it's initial sketch on canvas; I may know what I want to paint, but I do not draw it all in at first, I compose as I paint to some degree.
The most exciting development in my life recently has been the birth of my first grandchild!
