That Nightly Glow From Above (The moon)
It was a typical night A light mist flows through the air The moon sets the mood Peace is all around us
The nocturnal creatures begin to move Guided by the light from above They move quietly, a secret society Avoiding the risks the day will bring
I hear a howling in the distance A wolf thanks the moon for the light As it searches for food in the night The moon creates a path in the darkness
That luminous object far, far away Directs the night and sets the pace A beauty sent by God, Himself An angel in the middle of the night
The moon even speaks to the ocean As it silently controls the tide Sending glimmering water toward us Then tugs at our hearts as it returns
As we walk on the beach at night It produces a shadow beside us Showing us we are never alone Keeping up with our every step
Couples sit and take in its beauty Yes, romance is certainly in the air Holding hands, and even a soft kiss The moon is inside of us as well
Its paradoxical presence cannot be denied There for everyone to openly witness The moon simply cannot be ignored Its beauty demands our attention
There are man-made light sources But none compares to our lunar friend Its glow cannot be reproduced or copied And we would be foolish to even try
The moon creates a preternatural environment Stories and images that haunt our nights They are not real, and we never see them But the moon reminds us of the possibility
And sometimes we just stare into the sky Hypnotized by the glorious vision before us No one can honestly deny doing just this Its beauty requires our acknowledgment
The moon has a tremendous effect on all of us Producing a gravitational pull on our souls It controls our moods and even our plans As it simply hovers above us each night
Sometimes I just sit for hours on the beach Watching the waves as they gently come to me The coolness of the sand below me is so comforting The glistening light is dancing all around me
It instills a fear with many who see it A nuance within them has created a wall Afraid to even venture from their safe zone Hiding away until daylight finally returns
With many, it brings a capricious attitude Police swear violence comes with a full moon Although it may be only a theory Statistics show it to be an accurate assessment
We look forward to that time of day The time we refer to as twilight The sun has dropped below the horizon And allows for the moon to take its place
Of all that makes up our vast galaxy Nothing demands attention like the moon Our eyes are always drawn toward it And it seems to seep into our very hearts
Rarely, we have a major occurrence When the moon is taken from us Earth slides between the sun and the moon Deprived of light and we have an eclipse
The moon provides us with so much Our moods, thoughts, and even our actions Are swayed by that light from above That beauty with its celestial existence

Everything around me Seems so very strange Overwhelmed with confusion Yet, in a positive manner
My senses seem heightened My focus is unfiltered Totally free from obstructions All before me is easily deciphered
Colors are more vibrant Sounds are crystal clear My quickness in perception Sorts through them flawlessly
My sense of touch is strong I can feel without actual contact I draw energy from all objects And store it as memory agents
I look, but in a different way I see that which is not there Even as I close my eyes My sight does not fail me
I hear voices all around me Yet they speak not to me I hear other voices answer them They all seem so angry
My head aches, but pleasantly Mentally, I manage the pain My path is free of obstruction No, nothing stands in my way
A higher state of consciousness Has taken me to another place My mind is no longer my own And I am living outside of myself

PASSION IN THE NIGHT
She was no stranger No one night stand She was the one My heart belonged to her
It was a typical night We had just finished dinner A glass of wine was shared Gewurztraminer Kabinett 2004
We sat on the floor In front of the fireplace No fire was needed The heat was in our hearts
She put her hand in mine A chill shot up my spine I held her hand tightly I felt our fingers melt together
I reached with my other hand And brushed her hair from her face That angelic sight should never be hidden Especially from my eyes
I gently stroked her hair She smiled and leaned toward me As she kissed my neck, I trembled Only she could create that within me
She rested her head on my shoulder I pulled her closer to my side Her robe slightly opened exposing her breast We said nothing; it was part of the moment
The thoughts within me She would never know I could never tell her There are not enough words
She leaned and whispered in my ear I love you A warmth swept through my body She had never said those three words
I stood and reached for her hand And gently helped her up I held her face in my hands There was an angel before me
My face was inches from hers We looked into each others eyes I could see all the way to her soul I felt totally frozen
I inched closer and closer Almost touching but not quite there Finally, our lips touched so softly We were both shaking a little
I returned those three words Not as a reaction, but directly from my soul She smiled, throwing her arms around me We, at that moment knew our hearts
I grabbed her hand and led her across the room As I opened the door, I kissed her again I pulled her into the room And closed the bedroom door...
Hey, I can't tell you everything that happened...

Overdrive...A Painful Reality...
At first I was amazed I accepted it as a gift But as the years passed My gift became a curse
As a young boy of eight years I was found crouched in a corner No physical abuse had come to me Nor had I been injured in any way
No, this began as a simple flu Untreated, it advanced swiftly Fever developed and escalated It reached an amazing 108 degrees
I spent months in hospitals Recovery was slow and painful Finally I was released from confinement And I knew I would never be the same
Those who treated me said I was lucky Based on history, I shouldn't be alive Brains have fried from that amount of fever With me, the very opposite result transpired
My mind seemed to be stimulated The thought process has been changed Everything I see, hear, read or even think Is etched in my memory in great detail
Thoughts are many and continuous Even when I sleep, when I am able to do so Numbers dance in my head endlessly Evaluating every question before me
I remember every person I meet Even what they were wearing What was said and how they said it Yes, the memories remain with me
I sometimes cannot concentrate My mind seems to never stop The memory is like voices in my head Getting louder as the day goes on
I can stand in the middle of a crowd Observing all that is before me As I close my eyes or look away I can describe every one of them
Over the years my curse has advanced The endless expressions, motions, and tones Having formed a memory base within my mind I can distinguish between truth and lies
I never write notes, no reminders needed I forget nothing, and it tortures me daily When I try to blank my mind from all thoughts It simply adds more to think of and worsens
There is no relief, it is a horrible curse The inability to relax takes a toll on me Unable to think only a single thought My mind has morphed into a sponge

Without you
Stars would fall from the sky The moon would no longer shine The sun would hide in the darkness The wind would refuse to blow
Without you
Birds would no longer sing The flowers would no longer bloom The air I breath would become poisoned Life, itself would not be the same
Without you
My eyes would have nothing to see My ears would no longer listen My sense of touch would not be needed My heart would simply not beat
Without you
The sky would seem so very empty The oceans would be without motion Music would not exist leaving only silence Poets would no longer have a reason to write
Without you
I would have no reason to awaken each morning My days would be filled with voids and emptiness My goals and motivations would vanish into thin air The world would simply stop revolving
Without you, I would no longer be me...

A Gift From Heaven
I sat in a chair
On my back patio Taking in the beauty It is all around me
Clouds were rolling in Getting darker by the minute I felt a drop in the temperature And the wind began to stir
I know this feeling And I know what will happen There was a smell in the air Change is very near
In only moments it happens Raindrops are on the move Shooting gracefully across the sky A gift straight from Heaven
In a very short time Everything seems wet That beautiful tapping sound Of the drops kissing the ground
The rain continues to fall It is getting more aggressive I watch as the puddles form Just a slow gentle miracle
The trees gently sway Moving back and forth Just another magic moment The trees are simply dancing
A cardinal lands in a puddle Looking around just to be safe Splashing around playfully Yes, it was time for a bath
The clouds begin to thin out Sunshine peeps through the opening A glorious sight captures my eyes The sky is blessed with a rainbow
As quickly as it came The rain simply disappears Happiness has fallen from the sky Sending comfort to all below

Slipping Into A Void
The clouds have rolled in Gloom surrounds me Events have transpired That are beyond my control
Sadness engulfs me Tugging at my heart Getting tighter And tighter It is hard to breathe
Drowning in silence It hurts my ears Longing for answers Searching for hope
The sky seems empty Pale in color I close my eyes And still see the pain
My heart has slowed Barely sustaining my life As empty as the sky Except for the anguish
My body aches With endless trembling My mind is racing To an unknown destination
With every passing moment I get more lost within myself Thinking, thinking, thinking No clear thoughts come to me
I search my soul Finding only confusion I look deeper The confusion increases
This day is a void Flowing with sadness A milestone in life Of something that was
I must move forward And untangle this web Looking at tomorrow While I miss yesterday

Searching
I find myself staggering through life Sometimes unsure of what is before me Looking in all directions as I search For the one who searches for me
Walking through glass, the pain is intense Yet I move on leaving a trail of blood My heart is dormant with this journey Weakness increases with every step
My soul sometimes seems empty Waiting for that someone to fill it The path before me is endless I continue with my search for her
The light before me is blinding My ears are ringing from the silence Muscles ache with every step I take The air stings as I breath it in
One step at a time I move on With hopes of what may never be I cling to uncertainty and confusion Why do I see what is not there
Hours pass and turn into days No closer than I was yesterday What I do not find today I will again search for tomorrow
A void within me is stirring It pushes me in a forward motion I will search until the end of my days To find the one who is looking for me

CHALLENGE ME #3
Ok, the challenge is complete...This will be like the first two, and for those who did not see the previous challenges, the rules were quite simple...I decided on the theme, "NIGHT FEARS." What I asked of those who visited was to simply give me a word related to the theme...I used all words submitted in my poem, with no exceptions...The following is a list of the words submitted...
Falling Footsteps Abyss Dormant Dolls Dying Flashbacks Cacophony Ruthless Sardonic Gasping Altered Shadows Anguish Sanctuary Knocking Sever Terror Demons Hovers Abandonment Consternation Imminence
I want to thank everyone who visited and submitted a word...All words were used; none were omitted...Below is the finished product...
The Secrets Within
The Secrets Within
I knew when I moved into the house Its history would cause me some unrest Events transpired that should not have The house is scarred with memories
Within the shadows an entity remains It sometimes surfaces without warning The unexplained is a daily occurrence When darkness falls, the house is alive
I remember vividly the initial event It happened the very first night Ceramic dolls that sat on the mantle Were found in an upstairs bedroom
Every night would bring something new Sleep came slowly and sometimes not at all Throughout the house while darkness rules Items falling off shelves was common place
The house seems to be filled with anger That anger surfaces at any given moment And knowing it has been vacant for decades It seems to feel a sense of abandonment
The sounds of the night are many and often There is a pattern, the same sounds repeat I fear most the one coming from my bedroom Always at midnight I hear a gasping for air
There is another sound worth mentioning How it happens is as strange as the event itself Quite often I can hear a knocking at the back door Yet, it never happens unless I am in the kitchen
The stairs seem to have a mind of their own Though I live alone, there is a lot of traffic It is not at all unusual to hear footsteps Sometimes going up the stairs, sometimes down
Yes, the house is filled with its demons They surface nightly with no respect for me I have a constant fear of what is coming next Wondering how far this entity will go
This consternation is my own, not of the house No, this dwelling exhibits no fear at all to me I am merely caught in the middle of its anger It seems to understand that I am harmless
There are times when all is completely normal All is quiet and the house seems to be dormant I have learned to use this time to just relax For I know at any given moment it may change
Sometimes in silence things will happen I never know about them until much later One morning I walked into the kitchen To discover the size of the room had been altered
There is truly a presence within this dwelling A dark cloud hovers above it always The darkness and the evil seem to own it It is as if I have been permitted to exist
I have my good days as well as my bad My fear of the unknown tears at my soul Just being home creates a mental anguish My quest for solitude has been crushed
The cacophony within the walls calls me I dare not answer; what would I say? So I live my life in complete silence The sounds coming from the house are enough
Each night as I sleep my mind races The house never rests; it is indeed ruthless I try to look beyond the fears of my nights My mind is simply not equipped to do that
I go through each day wishing for an end This structure seems to have a sardonic mentality The thoughts of those who lived here before me Haunt me with the thoughts of their demise
Seven people lost their lives in this very house What must they have thought while dying These were not strangers, no they were family The house belongs to me; no one was left
I feel a true connection to this place Even the terror within cannot drive me away I've grown accustomed to the turmoil The fear is a part of my daily existence
I feel as though I am in an endless battle It feeds on my flashbacks of my childhood It is not unusual for my memories to surface And be created in the night to follow
So each night as the day fades away And darkness pushes the sun out of sight I prepare my self for what it may bring The imminence prevents peace of mind
You may wonder why I stay in this place Where most would consider it an abyss To subject myself nightly to the unknown And not run quickly to a safe place
I have thoughts of leaving all the time To just pack and sever this relationship More than once I have done just that But the house seems to call me back
I think to myself of what is before me And as hard as I try, I cannot leave This place I call home in all of its horror In reality has become my sanctuary
