COLLECTION 10 SHORT POEMS The sun fell on the wings of blackbirds Whilst a bee assaulting a rosebud Hummed to life’s rhythmic song And a billion seeds took flight in the breeze ………………………………………….. A damaged jealous heart watched As black roses floated away on the tide And a memory painted a thousand pictures Whilst waiting for the fat lady to sing …………………………………………… There were no fireflies to light the sky As in the darkness poets walked on marigolds And a trampled rain of purple emotion Swept across the bridge of no regrets ………………………………………………. Hiding from the moonlight Two lovers fondly embraced And the eyes of the stars twinkled For the stars see everything ……………………………………………….. A black hole devoured a dying star Whilst a hungry moon looked on in envy And a pride of lions roared applause As they waited patiently to make a kill ………………………………………….. In a city of moonless nights She wandered in the shadows Looking to be loved Without the price of pain ……………………………………….. A burning desert sun waited Whilst soldiers dug gardens with grenades Leaving only ash to fill their water bottles As roots of grief lifted from the damaged earth ………………………………………………. The green hills are drinking the clouds And a grey shower of thoughts Sits outside the shuttered window As the last petal falls from a faded rose …………………………………….. peter Kelly copyright 2013
MY TRIBUTE Today I stand in silence and say a prayer for you my thoughts are with your loved ones friends and families true you gave your life for country for freedom and mankind to make the world a better place and peace for all to find Your memory lives forever etched solid in my mind unspoken pledges we did make they all remained unsigned deep there in our comradeship our trust, our hopes, and so we did what was expected till it was time for you to go So now I stand alone and strong with tear drops in my eye my life I would have given but you were chose to die life may take from me so many things for which once, I may have cared they will never take the memories when we lived, we laughed, we dared. Peter Kelly Copyright 2014 To all the comrades I lost in the British and Rhodesian armies, and for fallen warriors everywhere.
BRIEF ENCOUNTER I kissed me a rainbow The night that we met We danced in the rain Yet never got wet The stars were diamonds That shone in her eyes Her smile full of passion A dream in disguise We laughed and we loved Throughout the long night A two heart encounter Until dawns early light We were drawn together Two moths to a flame But I’ll always regret Not knowing her name. peter Kelly copyright 2014

The summer sun shone On a fist full of dust and soil Where dried out seeds of hypocrisy Waited impatiently to be plucked From the womb of infidelity ………………………………………. The devil danced on the dark side of the moon As black ants feasted on the remains of love As the veins of hope were drained By anti clockwise revolutions On the windmills of humanity …………………………………………. The moon stretches down its hand To those left sleeping in poppy fields As the wind blows seeds of memories On the silent meadows of emotions ……………………………………. Shimmering twilight Reflected the salts of pain On a healing heart That wore no veil ……………………………………. The sun watched a kite without strings Dance through a rainbow As children climbed Through the cobwebs of innocence ………………………………………… As the sun hid behind a cloud Peace climbed a stairway to nowhere And the old poets prose became A stampede of question marks …………………………………………. BLEACHED HEART How many times can you come up for air When you’re drowning in your tears How do you mend your shattered heart After so many wasted years How will you climb the mountain When your soul lies fast asleep How can you build a castle If your trust is buried deep Your heart is bleached with teardrops Let the sunshine rinse it clean Take the first step out of darkness You’ll soon find a different scene Where your soul will fly in freedom Then you may cast away the chains Soon you’ll find that trust is waiting In a world where love still reigns. peter Kelly copyright 2010
NO VALENTINE No valentine again this year No table set for two No candles set to light tonight Just sweet memories of you No present wrapped with ribbons No roses red and new No chocolates and no laughter But sweet memories I once knew No music in the background No hand that I can hold No words to say I love you Only memories etched in gold No champagne fizz and sparkle No lips that I can kiss No dancing in the shadows Just sweet memories that I miss peter Kelly copyright 2014
