VALENTINE She holds a corner of my heart Where she lingers with intent So Cupid shoot your arrows dart To end my weary souls torment Send it fast and aim it true Twisting, sparkling in the light Then love for me it may ignite To set her heart on fire Eventually she will be mine And one day may aspire To be my sweetest valentine Where flames of love burn higher Peter Kelly copyright 2014
AN AUSTRALIAN VALENTINE LOVE POEM Of course I love ya darling You're a bloody top notch bird And when I say you're gorgeous I mean every single word So ya bum is on the big side I don't mind a bit of flab It means that when I'm ready There's somethin' there to grab So your belly isn't flat no more I tell ya, I don't care So long as when I cuddle ya I can get my arms round there No sheila who is your age Has nice round perky breasts They just gave in to gravity But I know ya did ya best I'm tellin ya the truth now I never tell ya lies I think its very sexy That you've got dimples on ya thighs I swear on me nanna's grave now The moment that we met I thought u was as good as I Was ever gonna get No matter wot u look like I'll always love ya dear Now shut up while the footy's on And fetch another beer!
PAINT ME A PICTURE Paint me a picture with words A masterpiece just for me Use colors from the alphabet And set the canvas free Paint me love and happiness With phrases rich and bright Write lines full of emotion In prose that will excite Be gentle with the brushstrokes Paint words fit for a Queen Mix adverbs from your palette Go where no-one else has been Turn the pages to the sunlight Let your dictionary flow Paint verses full of wonders Make the final picture glow Take thesaurean connections Change them from grey to gold Mix them all inside the writing pot Paint something special to behold peter Kelly 2009 copyright
DREAM PERFUMES If I could smell the sunshine of her smile It would come from apple blossom If I could smell the sparkle in her eyes Of course – stargazer lilies If I could smell the feelings in her soul What else but pink carnations If I could smell the warmth within her heart Ah yes – it would be roses But are they real these strong perfumes Or merely pallid ghostly blooms Engulfing all ones hopes and dreams They must be true for so it seems That I have touched them in my mind But when I search I always find Them all combined within one place Lost somewhere in one sweet embrace. peter Kelly copyright 2013
THE RUBBER DUCK I find myself in the red zone On an unsinkable rubber duck I’ve lost my way, and lost the quack And I’m in need of a change of luck I need a shave and I need a shine But don’t give up on me I’m the salt in the stew of existence Still searching for life’s key I’m like a hedgehog in a bag of balloons Going nowhere really fast But when the sun comes over the hill I’ll be in sight of land at last So cancel that important appointment At the palace of doom and gloom For me and the duck are on our way Riding in on a white crested plume I’m as happy as a butcher’s dog Cause I’m on my way to you Standing room only outside my heart And my foot’s in the loving shoe So I’m going to rock the cradle of love Enough to make a fiddle sing I’ll be in on a magic carpet Coming home to be your King peter Kelly copyright 2013
I WOULD NOT TELL YOU If I knew the essence of love I would not tell you You’d redefine it Repackage it Paint it pink Sell it at an obscene profit Then love would be trite and tainted If I knew the birthplace of dreams I would not tell you You’d predict them Dissect them Paint them purple Genetically modify them Then dreams would crash to the ground If I knew the germination of hope I would not tell you You’d analyse it Apply statistics Paint it blue Compute a standard deviation Then hope would wither away If I knew the conception of poetry I would not tell you You’d regiment it Destroy its flight Paint it grey Stack it in boxes Then poems would never inspire If I knew the essence of love The birthplace of dreams The germination of hope The conception of poetry I would not tell you You’d destroy their beauty Then your soul would die. peter Kelly copyright 2012
AUTUMN MEMORY
Autumn heralds fear of loss Amid its fruits and misty morn Whilst melancholy songs of birds Unites me to the pain of knowing You were here when all was growing And nature promised there would be A shadowed void to follow ecstasy Until like creeping fleshy fungi Threading through the dark of night The stealth of a silent ghostly winter Robbed us of life and light

ABDICATION Winter came upon us like a thief at dead of night He cast a cloak of coldness and stole away our light Descending from a leaden sky in thinly veiled disguise Winter came upon us with evil in his eyes Winter came upon us like a creature on the prowl He monochromed the landscape and turned the weather foul Striking fear in every city with his paralyzing hold Winter moved among us like a wolf within the fold Then just as we’d become convinced that he was here to stay As suddenly as he’d arrived, Winter went away Departing with the swiftness of an abdicating king Winter’s reign was over as he made the way for Spring peter Kelly copyright 2013

3 at 09:42 A POEM FOR YOU Do you hear the tap of the keyboard As I play that rhythmic tune My fingers float on the magic keys To write you a verse of the moon As words take shape before my eye I am filled with a feeling of awe And alphabet letters never ask why If they’re stacked in bundles of four Choreographed images dance in my mind Some asking, will it be happy or sad We’ll only know when it starts to unwind For sometimes it may even be mad Whatever it is it will come from the heart Sent to you like a moth to a flame How will it finish – how will it start Will it just be more of the same How many poems are writ in despair Whilst others are destined to die How many times can they come up for air Some even causing, a glass eye to cry So whether it sings a song or two Or drowns you in verses of grey I send it especially – just for you To our friendship here on display Peter Kelly copyright 2009
