Why is there no EXHAUSTED mood?
It started snowing today in the sfternoon. Big flakes. They stuck yo my hair as I was brushing off my car to go home.
I debatted (mentally) if I should stop and go to the gym and I talked myself into it. I didn't want to stay too long since the snow was coming down at a good clip when I walked into the gym.
While I was on the treadmill it looked like it stopped snowing but it's kind of hard to tell with the darkness, mirrored windows and blinds. I just did my routine and friends showed up which makes the "gym experienced" that much quicker. Passing the time gibber-gabbering while walking seems so much faster.
When I left the gym the snow did stop and it is now raining. I guess it's too warm in Boston to snow. Just above 32 currently. I also noticed my gym bag seemed lighter when I left but kept going out the door. I wanted to get home. I wanted to see the Biggest Looser. Makes me think how EASY I have it in my gym routine watching this.
I got home at 8, started to make dinner and had the TV going in the other room. Finally got it all done and sat and watched the show while eatting Mac and Cheese.
Sitting is a bad thing after a long day. I get very comfortable and soon the lazy boy get in the reclining position and then the eyes just need to rest during a commercial and before I know it, I'm ZZZZzzzzZZZZZzzzz happily till 11pm. Funny how I seem to know it's 11pm while I'm sleeping.
So needless to say, I missed to results of who was sent home. Does anyone know? I just tried to google it and looked on the NBC website and there is nothing posted.
Well, now everyone knows why I haven't blogged on here the last few nights. That Lazy Boy does me in these last few nights. The snow doesn't help either.
UPDATE: I just found a webpage that told me who went home. It was Mark, incase anyone else fell asleep like me!
Yesterdays snow should be no surprise to anyone living in the Boston area. I think the early winter we had with the 30 inches of snow in December we got, followed by the 10 inches of snow in Jan got us feeling that winter has ended but it’s Feb and Feb is part of the winter season according to the calendar I am looking at.
Also, remember the groundhog on Feb 2nd, he reminded us that winter isn’t over either. He has a great record with I think only 6 wrong predictions in his life time.
I think that we were hoping that winter was over and so the 10 inches sitting outside waiting for me to shovel it isn’t something I am looking forward too today. No, I’d rather be shopping or going to the movies or anything except shoveling.
Shoveling isn’t really a big deal. I don’t mind it too much but I do mind the bitter cold and rain that is usually associated with the shoveling process. Take those two elements out of the picture and I can handle the task with ease. Oh wait, add that I don’t have to be in work by 7am and I don’t mind it.
The best way to shovel is having the correct tool to do the job. There are MANY types of shovels and a few dollars on the right ones will make the chore much easier.
I have a few shovels in my possession given I’ve lived in the Boston area most of my life and learned a few things about the art of shoveling. I wanted something lightweight and so I’ve chosen a polycarb type with a blade edge on it. This is about 5 years old now and had been a good tool. I get down to the bare pavement with the edge on it.
I also have a scooper type of shovel with a shorter handle for the bigger, heavier snow removing. That is usually at the bottom of the driveway where the plows have left huge chunks of dirty, heavy snow. The scooper (the one I have is the BIG HOG, I believe also doubles as a grain shovel) works great for this area of shoveling.
I have old shovels too that I usually keep handy for when people ask to borrow a shovel. I give them one of my old ones because people aren’t as delicate when they borrow something. These shovels are the metal ones, with bent blades from misuse and rickety handles. I don’t want my good shovels being destroyed by neighbors and these are better then nothing.
The shovels I purchased are about $25 each and a good investment as they are in decent shape still and about 5 years old. An investment I think worth every penny.
Why am I writing about shovels today? Well I saw people shoveling yesterday with a variety of things. Things I don’t consider the correct tools for removing snow. Let’s start with the next-door neighbors.
They have (3) healthy 20-year-old kids and the parents. I would think a household of this many; given there are 3 cars in their driveway, that at least (3) shovels would be in their possession. Three people clearing off the property to get their cars on the road.
Most of the time I see the mother shoveling. She has (3) healthy MEN living in this house and the mother is shoveling. Not my business but let me continue. Yesterday, I actually saw her husband shoveling for a change. They have the green, long handled, polycarb shovel and shoveling happily. The wife is using a SAND SHOVEL. Yes, the type you give a child at the beach to build a sand castle! She was bent over and shoveling snow. I thought I was seeing things. I probably should have taken a picture of this.
These people aren’t poor nor are they rich but I would think they could afford a few more snow shovels. They are driving a Mercedes, Honda Pilot and Toyota Avalon. I won’t say any more.
Another neighbor, the street elder as I call her. She’s been here since we moved here in the 60’s and she is in her 80’s. I try and help her when I am around but that isn’t always the case. She is using a children’s shovel. This is one you buy a 4 year old to play outside while you shovel. To make it worse, this is one from the 40’s so it’s a very heavy steel type vs. the plastic types kids have these days.
Another person was using a spade. Spades are for dirt and are usually about 10 pounds to being with â€" why would you use this as a snow shovel?
I also saw people without any type of snow removal tool and using cardboard to clean off their cars windshield and pushing the snow with their feet. Now that is crazy.
If you’re going to live in an area that has snow, buy something to remove snow from your vehicle or land. Something that isn’t going to break your back or foot or the bank! There really isn’t an excuse why you wouldn’t have a snow scraper for your car.
I am up really early (for a Saturday) and plan on doing a good 2 hours of shoveling when the temperature rises a little. Too cold now to brave the elements and the sun is suppose to come out and greet us. That is when I plan on doing my shoveling, another old-timer trick I’ve learned living here all my life. Much easier to shovel after the snow stops and when it’s sunny then when it is sleeting and snowing on what you just shoveled.
I don’t have work today, otherwise I would have been shoveling last night and up early and outside now doing it.
For the record, the snow started yesterday about 7am. I was at work really early so when I left there was no snow. Accidents/spin outs were already happening at 7am as people coming in to work at that time stated many spin outs along the highway. People forget how to drive in the snow after a few weeks of no snow I guess.
It snowed until around midnight with the worse conditions happening late afternoon. I left work at 3pm and it took me 1 hour to get home. A slow pace but a safe pace for me. I was home accident free and I can handle an hour commute with that result.
Happy shoveling everyone!
In my 23 years of working where I do, I can honestly say I don't have any boring days at work. Some people are clock watcher but I have been so busy at work I don't even have time to stop working. I guess this is a good thing, esp since there has been talk of lay offs and one department asked for a voluntary lay off. I hate when stuff like this happens. It's never a good thingto see people get laid off from a job.
I've been trying to give some of my work to people but they all say they are all set. they have a job to do. I have about 10 I am doing and try to tell these younger employees they should take some work I am trying to give them but they look at me like I am crazy. Pretty soon they will be looking for me to give them some of my work except by then the well will be really dry and there will be n work to give out.
I'm just going to keep doing the best I can with the help I have but I really have to admit - I am EXHAUSTED. I have voiced my need for help to my boss but he just ignores my cry.
Going to bed tonight before midnight - I promised myself I was going to... Night all
Today, after work, I had a meeting for which I offered to bring the snacks to. The snacks were in the car and this gave me an excuse to move my car closer to the door I would be leaving out of at 9pm tonight.
Just for the record, yesterday in Boston I think the weather warmed up to a high 50's and most of the snow melted. It was warm because I felt warm inside the building.
Today, going to work at 6am I took my scarf off in the car, feeling comfortable without it. It might of been in the high 30's. Seemed warm to me.
Today at 4:45 when I went to move my car and get the snacks, there was snow flurries. YES, only in New England can you go from very warm to very cold so fast. I walked out with a co-worker and we were laughing at the weather. It could only happen here!
I grabbed my bags for the meeting and went back inside. Now I wasn't sure how many people would be at this meeting and what exactly folks would want for snacks but in the past we have had fruit, cheese/crackers and cookies. I purchased that and added carrots, spinache dip, wheat prezells, granola bars, raisins, peanuts, yoguart cranberries, yoguart raisins and snack mix. I, the junk food queen was accused if buying healthy snacks!
I guess this was a good thing considering most of the stuff that didn't get consumed was storable for the next meeting, people brought food home and by bringing in these snacks we saved nearly half the costs from having this stuff deleivered to us. I spent $70!
I also found out that shopping for people wasn't as easy as I thought it could be. You had to take into consideration people who have diabetis and food allergies (nuts probably wasn't the smartest food to buy but half the can was gone). Also, buying energy foods vs junk food for this time of day was considered. All in all we definately had MORE food, spent less and I think people ate more and felt fuller.
Oh yeah, the meeting was good too!
As some of you know, I am new here and have been still visiting the old webpage. The site is really starting to feel bare. I guess it's sort of like when you move out of a house. You pack and take on box out at a time and go in the rooms, look around and take another box.
That last day is going to be hard, when you go from room to room and see if you left anything behind and just check that one last time.
Leaving the old neighborhood is hard. The new neighborhood looks pretty inviting and that is a good thing. I guess we always move to a better location, right?
I'll probably check on April 1st to see if the site is up and running. Maybe it's just an April Fools joke but when you grow up, you find out April Fools isn't celebrated by adults.
Wow - today just flew by. I was so busy at work I looked up and it was 4:30pm. Not bad comsidering I started at 6:30am. But did I leave then? NO, I stayed another 4 hours to do some volunteering work.
I saw an article at Christmas time about a young man who has Downs Syndrome. He is just under 20 years old and was an actor in a movie called The Child King. I think this young man would be wonderful to listen too and talk about his challenges in his everyday life and give us all something to thing about.
So I asked a group I belong to if we can sponsor a meeting for him to come and speak and got the green light to set up such a meeting. So tonight one of the things I did was start trying to arrange for this young guy to come in and talk to us.
Another thing I squeezed in was a movie on the BIG DIG - more like the Big Disaster! If you are frm Boston then you know exactly what I am talking about. They claim the project is complete but I'm not convinced yet.
The movie I viewed was actually a 45 minute documentary about the project and it obsticles they faced every day. If you ever have a chance to this, it was very interesting. there were things in it I forgot about that happened during it's hay day. It is quit a task the engineers undertook.
Finally, my day has ended (already after midnight) and it has ended on a grand note - seeing a post from Grouchy! It's actually put a smile on my face.
Still have a lot to learn here - not sure about getting invited to groups - If I accept - what does this mean? Do I have to do something?
Having trouble finding my home page.
Comments - eventially I find them.
Guest book - I found them today.
Thanks all for the nice comments and notes- I appreaciate. Haven't writen too many yet, as I am still trying to figure things out when I have free time.
Should I be feeling guilty? I am single. I am free. I have no children. I am not responsible for anyone but myself. I come and go as I please. So why is it that if I go out with friends my family gets all mad about it because they have some "free" time and want to spend it with me? I have found things to do and people to be with who are free like myself. Just because you have some free doens't mean I should drop what I have planned or where I am going because you have graced me with your free time.
There have been so many times I sat home and did nothing because all my friends got married, have kids or have no money to do anything. I figured it out, got involved in things, took up hobbies, joined groups and even joined a gym. I have learned to network and keep myself from feeling lonely. In other words, I have a life and I have no time to even be on here blogging- that is how busy I make myself.
So, family has a way to make me feel guilty about my life and going out. They get jealous when I have affairs to attend, meetings to go to and out. I guess I am not going to change this. Pure Italain guilty. They are good at it.
I didn't change my plans (dinner and a chick flick) but I did invite my sister to join in. I figured my friends wouldn't mind. My sister decided she was tired and didn't want to go out after all that. I made the offer. Then I get the invite to go over for breakfast so they can spend time with me because they miss me and haven't seen me. We live less then 2 miles apart, they talk to me all week long and they miss me. I guess it's nice to be loved like that but it's not like I am in CA.
There have been MANY dinner affairs I attend and invite various family members to go with me. I spread the wealth. I've invited my brother, knowing he is going to decline since his wife won't let him spend time with his family. I invite my sister probably 99% of the time. She goes and has so much fun. She has kids and needs the break and so I take her out as much as I can. I also take my mom a lot too. She's the person everyone loves and my friends are always asking me to take her to the next party. The one time I invited this guy friend to attend a party on a dinner cruise the whole family was mad I didn't invite them. You would think they would be happy I was going with the guy!
Families - we all have them and we all deal with them. I really do love my family but the guilt thing has got to stop.
So, here I am, a new member of the site. It's Sat and I should be cleaning this messy house but instead I am trying the site out, filling in my profile and seeing if I can set things up - but it takes some time to do all that. It just doens't happen over night so folks, bare with me, I'll get there. I have to figure out all the bells and whistles here.
I am a former Tagworlder and just trying out various sites to see what is the easiest and friendliest place to hang out.
Though I hate to admite this, and I'll only admite this here I qualify for the age requirment - but if anyone asks me I'm 29 and that is the standard answer for the rest of my life!
For those who are going to be reading about my CRAZY life or thoughts, when reading my blog, please remember I am a TERRIBLE speller and unless there is a spell check on here, I'm probably not going to re-read or look ups words. I am here for me, to release my thoughts on paper and feel better about it. I write for me.
I have a somewhat enteretaining life. Or maybe I tell it entertainingly, but I even have to laugh at some of the things that happen to me in my life.
OK - I have played long enough here and will move on to - oh, do I dare say it...housework!
I'll be back - as this site seems to have many of the things I am use to - that would be USER FRIENDLINESS. If I could only figure out how to add a music player here...

I thouight this was funny and had to post it.
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning...uphill BOTH ways yadda, yadda, yadda
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that...
I'm over the ripe old age of thirty , I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And, I hate to say it, but, you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!
1. When I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!
2. There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter...with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!
3. There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!
4. We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!
5. And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!
6. We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like ' Space Invaders ' and 'asteroids' and the graphics were horrible! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!
7. When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed!
8. Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no on screen menu! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!
And there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons!
9. And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove or go build a fire .... imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid JiffyPop thing or a pan with HOT oil and R eal popcorn kernels and shake it al l over the stove forever like an idiot.
10. When we were on the phone with our friends and our parents walked-in, we were stuck to the wall with a cord, a 7 foot cord that ran to the phone - not the phone base, the actual phone. We barely had enough length to sit on the floor and still be able to twirl the phone cord in our fingers. If you suddenly had to go to the bathroom - guess what we had to do.....hang up and talk to them later.
That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled.
You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!
Regards,
The over 30 Crowd
