I'm a WINNER
Posted On 04/11/2008 03:28:27

It seems I have a lucky streek going. I won a Dunkin Donuts gift certificate on Tuesday. Tonight I attended a workshop and won a book. They also did another raffle where they were giving away plants they had on each table, so there were several plants to raffle off. As they were picking the names I whispered to my friend sitting next to me "They are going to pick my name, I can feel it" and no sooner I said it - they called my name. I also knew they were going to pick my name for the book. It was just a feeling I got that I was going to win.
Sounds a little spooky but it's true - I just had this feeling and it happened.
So on my way home from this meeting the feeling of being lucky was still in my system so I stopped and picked up some movie at RED BOX (if you haven't tried this way to rent movies try it it's so well worth it) and used a promotion code someone told me a few weeks ago and I got a free movie. I still had the feeling so I purchased loto tickets for the upcoming drawings for the reat of the week and I like to do scatch tickets every now and then. I always buy the newest ones out. I have no idea what you can win on these tickets but my total loto bill was $24. I hardly every buy these things so where I'm feeling lucky I bought them. Two of the tickets are RED SOX themes another good sign. I'm not scratching these tonight as I'm feeling very over whelmed with the possibility of winning again. No one will beleive me if I do win again tonight so I'll just wait till tomorrow. I think I'll go watch a movie since I'm not going to work tomorrow.

On another note...Yesterday I posted about friends with cancer. THANK YOU to the two nice entries I recieved - they meant a lot to me. Unfortunalety I receieved a call this morning about the women I spoke of. She passed away this morning. I'm sad that her life ended and very happy she isn't suffering anymore. I sent a card this past Sunday and I hope she was a little happy that friends from work were still thinking about her before she left this earth. I find some comfort in thinking this anyway and I hope she did too.

I really feel there is a higher being that has a plan for everyone and it's all mapped out from when you are born. There are reasons for everything.

Sad...very very sad
Posted On 04/10/2008 03:17:01

Today I am a little sad. I have a friend from work who has cancer and isn't doing very well. I just sent her a card (on Sunday) to cheer her up but I heard today she is down to 80 pounds and not eatting or speaking these last few days.
I have another friend I met on line. We have been emailing each other for about 3 years now. It was funny how we met - he sent and email to me by accident (It was an appology email) so I sent it back telling him he sent it to the wrong email address and the rest is history.
From Thanksgiving till about sometime in Feb I had not heard from him. I figured his computer busted or he didn't have enough money for the internet. No, those were not the excusses - it was he's been in the hospital since Thanksgiving and finally broke the news to me he has 1-3 months left to live. The last draw was tonight. After work I went to a friends desk to say hello and she was telling me about her review from work, etc and then she told me about she tests results which didn't sound so good to me.
I just don't want these people to suffer.
WILL WE EVER FIND A CURE FOR CANCER?

1737 Boston Stone
Posted On 04/07/2008 12:18:23

Many people pass this and NEVER know it's there. I too am guilty of this but now I am pointing it out to people.
Along the Freedom Trail, just past Faneuil Hall and the Union Oyster House, is the Boston Stone. The stone is embedded in the side of a building on Marshall Street. Marshall Street is a narrow alley, and the stone is on the right side of the street if walking toward the North End.

The mill-stone was originally used for grinding substances that became pigments in paint. The stone was imported from England in 1700 by the painter Tom Childs. The previous paint mill building at this location was torn down or destroyed, and the mill-stone was then found and embedded in the current structure. The stone is hollow, and about two feet in diameter. The inscription at the base reads "Boston Stone, 1737."

For many years the stone was used as a starting point for surveyors, making it famous. It is suggested the name was taken from the ancient "London Stone," used by the Romans as a central point for many roads

If I could figure out how to post a photo with my blog the picture would be here but you'll have to go to my site to see the Boston Stone.

Opps- well I can't post the photo because the file is exceeding the allowable limit - so many restrictions - why can't anything be easy! As soon as I figure things out the photo's will be posted.

Easter Sunday Repenting
Posted On 03/23/2008 04:17:09

As some of you might know from Tag World blogs I have not been in contact with my brother since Mothers Day 2007. That would be the day after my nephews first Holy Communion.

The day of the communion was a beautiful day with family celebrating the event with attending the church and a house party that followed. Most of the time everyone gives this little boy cash or checks but I usually make an effort to give this kid something her can open and something to mark the occasion.

Since I ended up spending a LOT of many my mother and sister went in on the presents. He received (3) individual bonds that he can use when and if he goes to college from each of us, (2) official Red Sox shirts, baseball cap, a baseball and a very nice 14K gold cross that he can wear when he is older and remember his communion. He already received a bible from his godmother (or so I think).

The party ended and I took the parents home since they cannot drive to where my brother lives and we ended on the see you tomorrow for Mothers Day.

The next day we (parents and I) ate breakfast and we received a visit from my uncle. It was a nice day and the folks were sitting around talking when the phone ran. It was my brother looking for my mother. I told him to hold on she was talking to my uncle (Her brother-in-law) when my brother exploded with statements like “You never let me talk to ma when I call”, “You didn’t call me to tell me what a wonderful time you had at the party”, and things of this nature. My mother was the one who said tell him to hold on not me. With this he hung up. Then he called back a few minutes later again looking for his mother. I gave her the phone and she told him she was talking and he started complaining to her about me not giving her the phone.

This evolved into another hang up and then he called back a third time when I once again answered the phone and he wanted to know what was going on at my house for mother’s day. I told him were didn’t have anything special going on to come by whenever he wanted and he wanted to know what he should get his mother for mother’s day. I of course being a wise guy said out loud so my mother could hear,” You mean you didn’t buy her anything yet” to which he answered “I don’t have all day to drive around looking for a gift, what she I get. Gas is expensive”. So at this point I was pretty pissed off and repeated again what he just said and he once again hung up on me. That was the end of the calling. No visit, no card, no gift for his one and only parent he has. The one who gives her car to him when he needs it. The one who takes and never gives.

Anyway, the next day he came by with a 6” clay tera catta pot with a since daisy plant in it. My thought was, could he share the expense? Then I was wondering what his mother-in-law was given? My mother forgave him but not me. He has no respect for his mother or his family and I pretty much wrote him off.

Over the past year I just have not had any contact with him or his family. I got really angry seeing my nephew here and I KNOW I the kid has nothing to do with what went on with his father and me I just look at the kid and see my brother right down to the fact the kid speaks just like my brother and so I just couldn’t even look at this little boy. I just stayed out of the house when I knew they would be there and out of the way when I was there when he was.

I admit I am a stubborn person and have a hard time letting go of anger when I know I am absolutely right about something and did nothing wrong.

Today, out of the blue I got a call from my brother. The conversation lasted about 1 minute with him doing most of the talking trying to get me to talk but I refused too. He got one-word answers and no additional dialog from me. I am angry still, very angry and if he thinks him calling on Easter Sunday to chat and act as if nothing has happened over the past year is acceptable he is mistaken.

If he got an epiphany while at church today he needs to first apologies for what he did and make sure it never happens again.

Unfortunately I can live very peacefully without him as I see him as a taker and never a giver to the family. He was the only boy and the youngest child who never had any responsibly and he still wants everything and never wants to contribute to anything. He’s just a taker and a user and I can do with out this in my life.

Easter Candy
Posted On 03/23/2008 04:59:26

The bunny is already missing his ears - the attack of the candy has sarted. I always break off the ears and start eating from the ears down - how about you?

Oh and the peeps are gone. Those marshmello candies didn't have a chance - they just melt in your mouth.

I'm getting rid of all the Easter Egg candies tomorrow - another easy eat for me. They need to go before I attack them!

Happy Easter

Public Places

Computers have a mind of there own and when they don't want to be fast they aren't. So here I am in my public library writing quickly because they limit my time here since there are so many people wanting to get on line. I'm not here because my computer is so slow but I had to come here to return some things and so I thought if I can get through some emails and postings quickly I would.

I have to tell you I am so discussed - people are sick and sniffeling all around me, no privacy and the old folks are walking to themselves out loud while reading there emails. Did I mension the eau de BODY ODER that I am smelling next to me?

OK - I'll write off line and post when I get back on line at HOME SWEET HOME.

Have a great day!

Happy Evacuation Day
Posted On 03/17/2008 04:06:25
Growing up Italian I didn't know many Irish folks. Funny when I think about this statement since Boston has an extremely HIGH Irish population (GA comes in second I beleive) but in a neighborhood full of Guido's, Nuzio's and Alfonzo's you seldom came across names like Patrick and Sean.

I learned about the Irish traditions from my 4th grade teacher, who was very Irish, similar to me being very Italian. She taught us Irish songs and says.

My next lesson was from a young woman who I met at my first professional after school job place (me not so professional being 16 or so). She was a red head who's second job was at Doyle's Cafe (one of the most famous of pubs in Boston). You can learn a lot about a person listening to stories from their second jobs.

Next was my friend Bridget, who took me to the St Patty's Day parade in South Boston's Andrew Sq. It was a fun day for me but my mother still wanted to know why I wanted to go??

I've met many people in my life who have taught me about the Irish. I still won't eat cornbeef and cabbage tomorrow but there will be many places serving this around here.

Histiory Lesson: Evacuation Day
March 17 in Suffolk County, Massachusetts is Evacuation Day, an official holiday commemorating the evacuation of the city (which was a town at the time) of Boston by British forces during the American Revolutionary War. Evacuation Day is also observed in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Somerville, Massachusetts. Schools and government offices are closed. If March 17 falls on a weekend, schools and government offices are closed on the following Monday in observance. Coincidentally, it is the same day as St. Patrick's Day.

On March 17, 1776 the 11-month siege of Boston ended when the Continental Army, under Washington, fortified Dorchester Heights with cannons captured at Ticonderoga, forcing General Howe's garrison to attack or flee. To prevent what could have been a slaughter of his troops, Howe agreed to retreat to Nova Scotia via his ships without setting the city on fire as he left.

Boston was one of the most important ports in the New World, and one of the most defensible (there is only a single channel into Boston Harbor which is ringed with islands). That the Americans were able to drive off several thousand hardened troops and 1,100 loyalists with only a few warning shots fired and no loss of life or property was a major accomplishment and was Washington's first victory of the war. It was also a huge morale boost for the new country, as the city where the rebellion against England started was the first to be liberated. Boston was never attacked again.

Many of the soldiers who volunteered to serve under General George Washington to break the yoke of British colonialism were Irish Catholic. These soldiers and their families experienced first hand British occupation and suppression. Many of their sacrifices during the War of Independence were critical in bringing about the establishment of the United States of America. After a failed movement in 1876, the holiday was finally proclaimed on the 125th anniversary in 1901.

Snowy/Rainy Sat

Raining and snowing here (not sticking to the ground). Just when I was feeling spring winter shows up. It's just not fair! (I sound like my niece now).
Ran to the library for some movies to entertain myself but I have plenty of housework and bills to also enteresin me - tough choice to make.
It's Palm Sunday tomorrow and that means Easter is next week - are we ready for the Easter Bunny? I'm not even ready for today!
OK -getting off line and going to do my laundry for a start.
Later folks.

Spring Fever
Posted On 03/12/2008 02:49:15
:balloon::balloon:I think I’m feeling spring. I had my sunroof shade open (Not the roof opened yet) but looking up and seeing the sun instead of snow was nice. I also like seeing the sun when I leave work. That’s different since I have not seen the sun much. I was really getting itchy to take one of my ice scrapers out of my car today. Yes, living in this area you have various snow removal type of instruments in the car. I have one that is used to break the built up overnight ice on my windshield. I have the extender brush that is very useful for getting the snow off the roof of your SUV. I have the standard brush that has an ice scraper on one end and a brush on the other and then I have the old brush that is missing a lot of it’s bristles but if someone needs to borrow a scraper I usually hand them the old one.
Let’s face it; if they don’t own a scraper then they aren’t going to take care of yours because they just don’t care. So I give them my old one.
Anyway, I just might take one of the many snow removal tools out of my car. That is one step closer to the spring!!
