Return Of The Redneck Vixens

Chapter 3

The Lobo told Micki, “Well I guess its about that time,” Micki smiled and said “You go head, I’ll meet ya there…I want to be properly dressed for my entrance.” The Lobo rolled her eyes knowing what was to come and went out to saddle up. It was a short an easy trip into the Big Easy. The town bustled with life, laughter and hidden evils only a trained eye could see.

There were fortunetellers, outdoor markets, and lots of tourist with more money than sense; and beautiful people everywhere you looked. There were several saloons to choose from but in a glance she knew which one belonged to her friends. Since the sun was going down it stood out even more with the red glowing gas lamps and cherry red swinging batwing doors. It was no surprise to her see Todd’s horse right out front.

When Todd entered, a dark skinned beauty at the top of the stars saw him first. Yelling out his name she ran down the steps; he turned just in time to catch her in his arms and enjoy the sweet smell of jasmine and feel of her womanly curves. He pushed her back some, (reluctantly) and said…”Let me look at you Cherry” He took in her chocolate brown eyes, dark brown hair and the sassiness she wore like an overcoat. “Damn you do a mans heart good Cherry Doll, its great to see you again and even better to hold you in my arms.” Cherry giggled and said “Okay Todd, all this flattery will get you one free drink but you have to pay for all the rest.” He couldn’t help but chuckle and say, “You’re a hard woman Cherry.”

The two walked over to the mahogany bar with gorgeous huge mirror behind it and to the big bartender Cherry said “Matthew, his first ones on the house, and give him the good stuff under the counter; winking she said  “but make sure he pays for the rest.” Standing behind the bar refilling bottles a shorthaired lovely brunette that did a double take in the mirror. Turning quickly she gasped in surprised and said “Todd?” Todd chuckled at her expression and she leaned over the bar to give him a kiss. When she did he pulled her right over the bar & into his arms. When the kiss broke he said “Connie its wonderful to see you.” Some of the customers were staring now and a few were a lil jealous; what they had tried to do for months (and couldn’t) a complete stranger walks in and has the women falling all over him.

Todd looked at his two old friends and began to say “Where is that rowdy T….” at that very moment Tina let out a whoop that would have made a Cheyenne Dog Soldier jealous. Todd braced himself as she came running for him high heel laced boots and all. It was about this time the Lobo slipped in and made her way to the back table to watch. One of the gamblers in the back looked her up and down and said “Ma’am…ladies aren’t allowed in the saloon,” She reached over and took the bottle of whiskey from his table, had herself a pull from it, whipped her mouth with her buckskin shirt sleeve and said, “Well if one walks in here, I’ll be sure to let her know that.” She kept his bottle and took a seat…alone.

Cherry saw her out of the corner of her eye and casually strolled to the table where the Lobo was sitting. “You came,” the Lobos smiled held love, as one loves a sister and said, “You doubted I would?” Cherry giggled and took a seat, “Big trouble here in the big easy,” Now it was the Lobos turn to laugh, “Is there any other kind? Fill me in Cherry, but maybe we should talk privately…a lot of ears in here.” Cherry said “We’ll close early tonight, come to the back door at midnight, I’ll have Tina watching for you.”

Lobo looked out the window just in time see & get a reminder how Crazy Micki got her nickname. Dressed in layers of raggedy clothes walking along pulling her mule she loving called old Tess; and talking to herself. Every now and then she would yell at a passerby “What the hell’s wrong with you?” Then she would stop and talk to old Tess saying, “Don’t you worry Tess baby, Mama wont let anybody ride you.” To any one that didn’t know Micki they would swear she was a few rocks short of a wagonload…and that’s just the way Micki liked it. When she reached the saloon her and Tess both entered. Matthew saw her coming and already had a bucket of beer ready for Tess. Micki had smudged her face with dirt and was playing her part to the hilt. Micki sipped on a beer while Tess guzzled hers down, belched loudly, then Micki took her outside to the hitching rail.

The Return of The Redneck Vixens
Posted On 03/21/2011 03:39:24

This is a story written for all my best friends…that just happen to be the characters. I have written these kinds of story’s Many times, they are fun to write. As always the story is a western, and at the end of the chapter will list the names of each friend except for those that prefer to remain anonymous….

To all my critics out there, this is a FICTIONAL story…look that word up!! For the rest of you, hope you enjoy and who knows…maybe you’re in it…if not this chapter, perhaps the next.

 Enjoy….

Kathy

Introduction:

A large group of friends several years ago went into business together in a lil place known as Colorado. Since then, they took their small fortunes they had made and went their separate ways. Every few years they enjoyed meeting up again, this year…the meeting place was New Orleans.

“The Return of The Redneck Vixens”

The Lobo had become bored living in the city and knew she wanted to hit the trail again. While stocking up on supply’s she thought, “I wonder where ole Crazy Micki is hiding these days?”  With her pony and packhorse ready she pulled out an old map and gave it quick glance; and she knew which route she wanted to take. With any luck at all, she would meet up with a couple of her old friends. Yes…there was a lot more to a good life than owning a saloon. Being in the same town doing the same thing day after day. For over a year now the routine had made her weary. New sights, fresh air, and old friends were just the ticket to getting back to her old self again, and she was looking forward to it.

That night she camped about 50 or so yards from a small creek and enjoyed the sounds of the night. A raccoon scampered close by and the owl asked the same ole question. Sleep came easy and was the best nights rest she’d had in far too long. The next day she stayed to high ground so she could have a better view of what was around her. It was mid day when she saw the lone rider and within moments the Wolf knew it was a woman. She planned to go down and say hello when two other riders came up. Obvious even from a distance, the men’s intentions were less than honorable. Sliding off her pony she grabbed her Henry rifle and long glass.

The two men were laughing and circling the woman, taunting her all the while. The Wolf wiped her eyes thinking she must be seeing things and looked thru the long glass again. It was her all right, Gagama; Gagama was a Cherokee woman the Wolf knew well and loved, better yet… respected. She willed her anger down to a minimum and took a bead on the yahoo in front of her friend. BOOM! The Wolf smiled at the yell that could have been heard a mile away as the bullet nearly took his right arm off. To spite her situation Gagama smiled too. “One thing about being in the hills boys…your never alone. Not even when ya think you are.” The other rider came up close to her and reared far back to land a slap that would have knocked her out of the saddle, that’s when Gagama pulled her colt and gut shot him. “You low-life’s should have gotten yourselves a job back in Fort Worth…then you wouldn’t be wounded and dying.” As if nothing at all was wrong, Gagama gave her horse a kick and started for the hill the shot had come from.

The two women embraced and said their hellos, the Wolf wearing a buckskin shirt and Levis and Gagama in lovely tailored made dress. “You’re roaming this country in a dress?” the wolf asked surprised…”Well you know me, I always like to look my best.” Both women laughed and Wolf said, “I’m heading south, to New Orleans…you?” “New Orleans sounds like a place I would fit into nicely. Unless you object, I’ll ride along with you.”  â€œFine by me” the Wolf said,  â€œI expect to find a few friends there, been too long since I saw them last.”

Now on the boarder line of Arkansas and Louisiana, (present day El Dorado) the women came up on a beautiful lake. Although it wasn’t a huge lake the water was crystal clear. The Wolf looked at Gagama and said, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” They dismounted, unburdened the horses of saddles and gear then stripped themselves as naked as the day they were born and dove in. Splashing and laughing like two kids they didn’t see the drifters that had been watching from a distance, there were three of them.  â€œWe can wash out our clothes and let them be drying while we dress and saddle back up” the Wolf was saying when a male voice interrupted saying, “Now don’t hurry on our account, we kinda like the scenery.”

Both women angry at themselves for letting their guard down, and both naturally on the sassy side Wolf just couldn’t keep from saying, “Ugly as you three are Looking is all you’ll get to do.” As Gagama lit into them giving them a piece of her mind something caught the Wolfs eye a short distance away. Trying not to study on the glimmer she had seen too much to warn the drifters, she was sure glad to see an old friend step into view. Wolf knew all would be okay and motioned for Gagama to follow as she swam to the deeper part of the lake.

Guess we’ll have to go in after em boys and the low lives began to pull their boots off and unbuckle their gun belts. Once the gun belts hit the ground a deep voice said “Howdy boys,” the only sound heard next was the hammer being pulled back on a six killer. By now Wolf and Gagama were out of the water slipping quietly up to their gear to get dressed. “Damnit Wolf of all the times for you be naked and I cant even look cos of these polecats!” She giggled and said, “Maybe next time Todd…”

CHAPTER TWO

Gagama & Wolf now dressed, saddled and heading south, the Lobo asked, “Todd…when did you become a peeping tom?” Todd tried to hide his smile and said, “What? Me? Lobo… I’m wounded you would think such a thing,” “Gagama snickered and said “Enjoyed yourself did ya?” Todd couldn’t help but chuckle and replied, “Well it paid off for you two. Those boys had a lot more on their minds than just peeking, but when they come to all they will thinking about is the headache’s they have.”

There was only the sound of a gentle breeze for the next mile or so. The Spanish moss grew thicker in the trees and finally Todd said, “So who are you looking for in New Orleans?” The Lobo gave him one of her ‘looks’ but didn’t answer. So Todd broke the silence with, “Some of our old friends are having a hard time down in New Orleans. Seems not everyone there likes the idea of women owning and running a saloon.” With a raised eyebrow she said, “Cut to the chase Todd…” He rolled his eyes and said, “Your gonna end up in a war if you go there. It’s a war that can’t be won Kathy…you’ll be out numbered and out gunned. High stakes in this game and the losers end up dead.”

The two women looked at each other and Gagama asked, “Politicians?”  Todd spoke trying to choose his words carefully saying, “The few that are left are bought and paid for. A group of crooks that hit the mother load on Indian land & now own the town and everybody in it…except the girls.” “What Indian land?” The Lobo asked. Todd hesitated, but then said “Cherokee land.”  Lobo sniffed, “There is no Cherokee land in the New Orleans area Todd,” “No…But there is, or was… in Georgia & Alabama before the whites ran the Indians out; the one’s they didn’t kill.” Lobo mumbled, “Murdered you mean.” He knew he had stirred up a hornets nest with his old friend, but he had never lied to her before and he wasn’t going to start now.”  This was getting more interesting by the minute, and both women knew there was much more to the story, so they kept quiet and waited for Todd to tell what he knew.

“Ever heard of the name Rothschild? You’ll hear it a lot in New Orleans, although you wont ever meet one personally. Just the scum that work for them.  Then there is a group of Irishman out of New York that want New Orleans for themselves…O’Malley is their name. These two families are battling it out for control of the city; and then the girls came in buying up what they could. Get the picture?” Both women understood perfectly and weren’t too happy about it…but they didn’t believe in tucking their tails and would never run out on a friend.

The days were warm but pleasant and the three of them were making good time. Todd decided to put his bedroll away from the women some…just in case trouble came sneaking into camp; he hoped it was un-necessary but it had paid off in the past. Just before the sun came up Gagama had a pot of coffee boiling on a hat size fire, the delicious aroma awakened Todd. The Lobo asked him as he was pulling on his boots, “Think we should ride into town separately? Just to give us a slight advantage against those paid to notice such things?” Todd yawned and thought a minute, “Might not be a bad idea…at least til we get a better idea of what we’re in for and just how badly we’re outnumbered.” Soon the three were back on the trail and only about a half a day now from New Orleans.

The Lobo said “You two go ahead, I have an idea…I’ll see you at the saloon later.” She veered off into the trees and looking closely for any sign that might give her an idea of where Micki would be hiding. It wasn’t a ‘look’ so much as a ‘feel’ of the land she was following. She wouldn’t know if her instincts were right until Micki was standing in front of her. After a couple of hours, that’s exactly what happened. Crazy Micki appeared out of thin air and said “Looking for me?” Lobo couldn’t help but laugh and said, “You know I am you crazy woman, got any coffee made?” “Nope, but it wont take long to make some…we’ll catch up on old times and times to come.” Micki lead the way and they entered what appeared to be a cave, but once inside there was a secret entrance into a space that was as nice as any hotel room. The Lobo took a seat on the couch while Micki stoked the fire and put water on to boil. “You know you’ve walked into a war zone by coming here don’t ya?” Miki asked. “That’s what I heard, tell me more; like to know as much about the enemy as possible before the fighting starts.”

Nodding in understanding Miki began, “The enemy is greed disguised as men in suits. They claim they’re name is Rothschild but I think its just a name they picked out of a hat. The only way to identify any of them is in the way they dress and or handle themselves. The more dangerous ones wear expensive suits and each breath they take is of arrogance.

Only their hired help wears work clothes and look like farmers, ranchers or even an everyday cowboy. The main goal is to run the girls out of town…or kill them. The girls got lucky when old man sold them his run down saloon just before he died. It sits in the heart of the city where the most traffic is. You know the girls, they dolled the place up and have good entertainment…the enemy now wants what they have. And one way or another plans to get it.” Lobo asked, “And the O’Malley’s?” Micki smirked, “A thorn in the Rothschild’s side. Its their behavior that have kept some of the attention off the girls.”

‘The girls’ had done everything legal and above board…the only thing that could stop them now was, murder. If the owners of the popular saloon were to vanish or die, then either the Rothschild’s or O’Malley’s could step in to be the new proprietors. After paying the city for the property of course, which was run by the Rothschild’s. But did the ‘Rothschild’s’ really exist, or is strictly a cover?

Haunting Dream...

Haunting Dream

I had a dream last night, which brought me both sadness and joy

Hearing the drums beating…and the dancing little boys…

I could feel the breeze on my face, and smell the sage burning

Deep in my heart… there was an unfamiliar yearning….

In the distance I saw movement…feet moving to the beat

Waves skipping in the sky…I could see the dancing heat

They vanished in one breath, and wild horse’s soon appeared

What I saw next…made my eyes burn with tears…

My ancestors high above, they stood proudly in the clouds

And I wondered silently… what kind of magical place had I found

A man stepped forward, calling ‘Grand-daughter, open your eyes & see’

Then I saw my own self…starring back at me…

His voice was deep yet soft, I could feel the love from his heart

The look his eyes held,  the pain that set us apart

‘Don’t let them forget us…and do this with love

If you need any guidance Little Wolf, just look up above’

Our spirits are restless…at all we have seen these last days

They have forgotten our teachings…forgotten our ways…

Let them know we are coming, to the young & the old

And to those that have sinned against all…with hearts so cold’

I awakened with a start, “what a dream” I thought

Something cool to drink, is now what I sought…

My thoughts were racing… as I remembered the words he said…

Throwing back the blankets, I crawled from my bed

But what I found chilled me… right down to the bone

An eagle feather on my keyboard…Yet I know I was alone…

I sat down right then, and penned this lil write…

“I promise you Grandfather…for our people I will fight….”

The Walk

The walk was

 a long one

to the jumping

off place

Thoughts of despair

 closing in…

The pain

it now showed

upon the face

Loneliness made

each of his bone’s ache

Once the depression

 took over…and

hopelessness asked

how much more

 can he take

The only reality…

memories cascading

 the heart… like a

 misty rain

A heart begging

 for relief…from

 the unspeakable pain

JUMP!

 A voice screamed

 in the jumbled

ruins of his mind

Leaning forward

 letting go…

ready for the fall

 closing his eyes

 The hazy mental

fog

 began to lift

The sensation of

 another’s touch

How could that be?

For the first time

 in his life…God

allowed him to see

To feel the warmth

 of His love &

 to feel the

 touch

 Thru the hands

of an angel

 God said

 â€œI love you…

so very much”

Eleven Strong

They knew each other well

Knowing secrets they’d never tell

Gave each other tips on dating…

High school days had ended

A few broken hearts had mended

Now new adventures they were debating…

Eleven Strong they joined in

To fight in a war, no one will win

Standing tall and proud…they signed on the dotted line

Bullets zipped by them all

Now a brother takes the fall

His comrade holds him tight saying…your gonna fine

The Eleven Strong, are now only four

Seven have gone home, bullets zipping by no more

One is in the ole hometown again…

Yet they are all still brothers

Each saw the tears of their mothers

Some gave their best; some gave all…in a war no one will win…

I Remember...

 I Remember…

There he was just a few feet away from me now…only an eternity had passed

I stood watching for a moment as she kissed him good-bye

Remembering when…a couple life times ago…before me my life flashed

I knew the look his eyes, I had felt the pain they held

Knowing all to well how he was feeling in that moment….

Standing just in sight for me see…was no longer a man, but a shell

The hollowness down to his soul reflecting thru those eyes once true

As my words came back to haunt me now…“I hope I’m there to see it,

When your heart is damaged like mine…& you’re all alone and blue”

On my way home feeling weary for words of anger, how they hurt us all

‘Be careful what you wish for’ I whispered to no one…

His pain brought me no joy, no relief…his tears the last thing I saw…

A Story of My Uncle James
Posted On 02/25/2011 03:02:50

A Story of My Uncle James

(one of Many!)

The electricity went off here this afternoon and stayed off until late tonight. During this time my mind wandered walking down memory lane to things I hadn’t thought of in a long time. So I lit a candle, grabbed a notebook and began writing of this lil journey mind traveled and I hope you enjoy it.

****************************

I grew up in the country where life was simple, yet hard. The road I lived on was about two miles long. It was quiet and when a car turned down our road, you could hear it coming. When people came to see you, they Really wanted to see you. Some had electricity, some didn’t. We all had well water that was cold and tasted sweet, no chemicals. The road was dirt, then gravel and finally paved. The technology of today didn’t exist, so people worked hard all day and went to bed early, too tired for foolishness and putting food on the table was the most important thing. Neighbors not only loved one another but would help each other out any time they could…a tough life in ways yet a much more simpler one in many ways.

People (it seemed then) had much more faith in those days…prayer was a way of life. Praying for the crops to do well, for the livestock to make it to market & that no one got killed in the process; and church was something to look forward to. As far as technology went, the gas lamps and gas heat came first…(if you were wealthy) and to a few of the businesses. It was the ‘cutting edge’ of it’s time and unfortunately could be very dangerous as many died in fires. A few years later electricity came about and that’s when the world began to change.

I had a great Uncle; my Uncle James that lived down the road from us. He owned a 160-acre farm and ranch.  Now Uncle James was old school all the way and not a big fan of change. In fact he seemed to resent it if anything. I was just a small child and my mother “Jew Lou” (her family nickname) was very close with my aunt and uncle. We would make the mile drive a couple of times a week just hear them tell their stories of the ‘old days’. I must admit… it was fascinating! (& quiet humorous!) It was the mid to late 60’s and Uncle James still didn’t have electricity. His kids insisted he get it, saying ‘it would make life easier’ for him and my Aunt Vivian. He finally gave in against his better judgment and all was fine…until the bill came.

There were only like ten families living on our road, mostly woods & very quiet… and I swear if you listened hard you could hear him cussing all the way down at our house. He jumped in his old 1950’s step side Chevy truck and headed to town; driving fast for him which must have been a good 35 miles an hour…hahahaha….My mother took one look at me and said “Shit! Get in the car quick! He is on his way to kill somebody!”

We followed him all the way downtown to the electric company on main street, where he entered the small building in his dirty overalls. Mama was right on his heels and watched him throw the bill on the counter and said in his firm deep voice “Just what the hell is this?” A middle aged gentleman stepped forward, looked at the bill and calmly said “Sir, this is your bill for the month for the electricity you used.” To which my Uncle replied, “This is robbery and I’m not paying for your damned ole electricity!” Remaining calm (somehow) the man behind the counter said, “Sir you wanted electricity and this is how  much it cost for your usage last month,”  “Wrong sonny boy, my kids wanted this so you send Them the bill.” “But Mr. Favor it is in your name, making you responsible,” “I don’t give a damn whose name it is in, I didn’t sign anything with you people and I’m Not paying it!” The man sighed and said “Sir if you don’t pay the bill will have no choice but disconnect your service,” “Suits me fine sonny, I didn’t want the damn stuff anyway, so come and get it… but if you trespass on my land I will shoot you!” My Uncle walked out, my mother and me behind him. Mama was trying not to snicker and I was awe…

And for the record…the bill was $6 dollars and .50 cents. He lived to be in his late 80’s and in all those years, he never had electricity again….
