I'm one of the original Boomers from back close to when MyBoomerPlace began. We were a small, warm community then. We knew each other, we cared about each other, we cheered and cried with each other and yes, sometimes we had to say "goodbye" when cancer or some other enemy won or simply the time came. We felt safe here. We kept our profiles open for all to see. How, after all, could someone know who we were if we didn't? Now MyBoomerPlace is changing. We have new neighbors moving in with their own reasons for being here and level of trust. I hope that trust level will grow because it's so disconcerting to receive a friend request and then go to see who has invited me only to find a profile that is closed to all but friends. I end up having to deny the friendship because one, I can't see who I'm accepting and two, I have the feeling that anyone who does not trust may not be trustworthy either. That's just me. So please don't be offended if I don't accept a friend request. When you are comfortable enough here to be open to all and secure enough to know that, unlike some other sites, our Admin will swiftly take care of any abusers of our site, send me another invite if you like. Until then, welcome to MyBoomerPlace. Hope you enjoy it here as much as I have over the last several years.
Here's a little video I made of my grandchildren to wish you a happy and safe Halloween! Have fun!

When I was in grammar school I was in love with Pat Boone. He was a clean cut singer who was not only a Christian but sang songs about love. And he was SO cute!
On the way to school most days, we'd stop into Millie's, a candy store as we called it, to get our little brown paper bags of goodies to hide in our desks at school. There was a machine in the store that dispensed packets with music artists and maybe gum, I don't recall. The display on the machine showed a card with Pat Boone on it and I longed for that card to be in one of my packets.
After many attempts and many coins inserted, I finally got a Pat Boone card. On the back was a short biograpy of the artist. WHAT? Pat Boone is married??? What a sad day that was for me. Really. And, as you see, I still remember. Why am I writing this today? Because I have received a call from ...drum roll...Pat Boone. Well, it was a recording, but he spoke right into my ear...extolling the virtues of a candidate who will appear on the ballot in about a week. *sigh* Not exactly romantic, but he did say "God bless you" at the end...right in my ear. I had to wait about 50 years but my dream finally...almost...came true. Still love that voice, Mr. Boone!

Last week was quite stressful. My little dog, Lego, who was my daughter's dog but came to stay a "short while" a couple of years ago and is still here, seemed to have developed cataracts in his second eye. He's only about 5 years old, but we knew from the grayish color his first eye had them. He also had some trouble occasionally bumping into something on that side of him. But he still had one good eye and did just fine for the most part.
Well, last week Lego started showing signs of sight loss in the second eye and I could see the grayish color developing in that one as well. And he would not go up or down the back stairs by himself. What a dilemma, a perfectly good dog who is going blind? What do you do?
So I started researching online and calling around, to the Anti-Cruelty Society, some vets, etc. asking about cataract surgery. Whoa!!! I found out it runs about $1500 per eye! Even if we did just one eye, that would have been way out of our range financially. So now what?
Well, Lego still seemed to do pretty well navigating the yard, so I built him a ramp to hopefully help him get down the stairs. Uh-uh, no way, not doin' it, said Lego. I'd put him on it at the top and he'd go down a bit on his belly and then jump off the side. Very undignified to say the least. So much for my ramp idea, which by the way, Mr. Gene scoffed at ("How's that workin' for ya?" LOL) BUT...suddenly Lego would be in the house after I'd put him out in the yard and I hadn't brought him up the stairs. Over the weekend, he was at the garage door in the yard after I'd gone out leaving him in the house. So he HAD to be getting up and down the stairs on his own! Hurray!!! I don't know what changed or if he just decided he wasn't going to stand waiting for me to get him where he wanted to go, but I am SO happy and thankful!
I know this may seem like a small thing to many, but I know those who have a canine companion totally get it. I had a Golden Retriever for all of her over 13 years of life and she never had vision problems. But this is Lego, my little feisty "general" who though smaller than Pippen tends to think he's the boss (and Pippen usually complies..till he's fed up LOL). They are a funny pair! I hope Lego continues to have a good quality of life for many more years, God help him. He's my cuddly one, though Pippen is learning (or getting jealous) and has started to like to be close more than was his habit. I live alone, except for my boys. What would I do without them...for laughter and for love?

May you know Jesus as YOUR Redeemer
Who did for us
what we could never do for ourselves.
He lives!! Hallelujah!
Easter blessings and joy!
Ok so...would the real FreeWilly please stand up. In other words, who are you? You've been a member since 2008 yet have one friend who is the present owner of the site and very little about yourself on your page but a blurb on your location, etc. What have you been doing for almost two years on here? And does your job stated on your page indicate we will be seeing a lot more invasive ads (not me, I have AdBlockPlus via Firefox) on here? Just wondering.. :) Thanks for saving the site...I think. Janet
I received notice this morning that I should cancel my subscription as the site is discontinuing. :(( Very sad news for those of us who had been or still are members of MyBooimerPlace.com.
Admittedly I and others of us of the original Boomer members have been on Facebook and not MyBoomerPlace for a while now, but this was a beautiful site in its time, like no other, with an admirable purpose....to provide those of us of the baby boom age a decent place to share on the net. And that it did, for over 4 years now.
Thank you to Admin Tom and his assistants (Deb, Jess, and others along the way) for all the work over those years. And thank you to all the faithful bloggers who have shared with us over morning coffee and filled our days with shared bits of their lives. The friendships we have had here are priceless. I hope we all stay in contact and those friendships continue, whether it be on another site, via e-mail (mine is jlmaly at sbcglobal.net and put the @ where the "at" is) or telephone. I know you will all be in my heart. Thank you for sharing the ups and downs of life with me the past four years or so. It has meant a lot. MyBoomerPlace may be gone but it will never be forgotten.
Blessings,
Janet
For those of you who know Gene: Shortly after bringing his dad home from the VA hospital today as planned and getting him settled in bed, with Gene by his side he took a deep breath as if to say, "I'm finally home," and that was the last breath he took. He went peacefully, for which everyone is so thankful. Thank you for your prayers and please now uphold Gene and his family as they take care of what comes next.

May the joy of that first Christmas
reside in your hearts and homes this Christmas day.
I pray you know Jesus,
not just as a baby in a manger
but as your Savior and best friend.
Blessings, Janet
