Styx

And a tenth part of Okeanos is given to dark night
a tithe of the pure water under earth
so that the clear fountains pour from rock face,
tears stream from the caverns and clefts,
down-running, carving woundrous ways in basalt resistance,
cutting deep as they go into layers of time-layerd
Gaia where She sleeps—

the cold water, the black rushing gleam, the
moving down-rush, wash, gush out over
bed-rock, toiling the boulders in flood,
purling in deeps, broad flashing in falls—

And a tenth part of bright clear Okeanos
his circulations— mists, rains, sheets, sheathes—
lies in poisonous depths, the black water.

Styx this carver of caverns beneath us is.
Styx this black water, this down-pouring.

The well is deep. From its stillness
the words our voices speak echo.
Resonance follows resonance.
Waves of this sounding come up to us.

We draw the black water, pure and cold.
The light of day is not as bright
as this crystal flowing.

Three thousand years we have recited its virtue
out of Hesiod.
Is it twenty-five thousand
since the ice withdrew from the lands and we
came forth from the realm of caverns where
the river beneath the earth we knew
we go back to.
Styx pouring down in the spring from its glacial remove,
from the black ice.

Fifty million years—from the beginning of what we are—
we knew the depth of this well to be.

Fifty million years deep —but our knowing deepens
—time deepens—
this still water

we thirst for in dreams we dread.

I'm a MySpace refugee.

I'm finding this site's interface a bit awkward.

MySpace's old way of looking up friends, viewing comments, etc. worked. The new MySpace's doesn't.

This site doesn't have a comment back option when you view comments left?

I do like that this site is more adult oriented.

I have only a little time each day to be able to get online, at least for the time being, so please be patient with me.
And I'm still writing / adding a little each day to my page here.

My picture really is me. 2007. Just before my 50th birthday. The summer I bicycled 101 miles in a single day.

Staying physically fit, active, and healthy are very important to me. I only run with those who feel the same way.

I'm a Mensan and then some ( 99.96 %ile by the norming of a test I'd taken in Omni magazine back in the
80's ),who would like to meet other extraordinarily intelligent friends around the world.

Many of my online friends are European, and perhaps generally somewhat more "avant-garde" than some
in the US. If anyone is a bit prudish, we probably shouldn't be online friends, though perhaps we might
get along in some circumstances in the real world. But online, I love the art and the music, and am not at all
inhibited. "Why do artists paint nudes? Because they're beautiful".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avant-garde

1) Any creative group active in the innovation and application of new concepts and techniques in a given field
(especially in the arts)

2) Daring. Radically new or original; "an avant-garde theater piece"

3) Avant-garde means "advance guard" or "vanguard". The adjective form is used in English, to refer to people
or works that are experimental or innovative, particularly with respect to art, culture, and politics.

So, if this isn't to your tastes, please just delete me and let's part company on cordial terms.

I'll add more to this a little at a time.

The dreamy idealist is very cautious and therefore often appears shy and reserved to others.
He shares his rich emotional life and his passionate convictions with very few people.
But one would be very much mistaken to judge him to be cool and reserved.
He has a pronounced inner system of values and clear, honourable principles for which he is
willing to sacrifice a great deal.
Johanna von Orleans or Sir Galahad would have been good examples of this personality type.
He is always at great pains to improve the world. He can be very considerate towards others
and does a lot to support them and stand up for them.
He is interested in his fellow beings, attentive and generous towards them.
Once his enthusiasm for an issue or person is aroused, he can become a tireless fighter.

You are The Sun

Happiness, Content, Joy.

The meanings for the Sun are fairly simple and consistent.

Young, healthy, new, fresh.

The brain is working, things that were muddled come clear,
everything falls into place, and everything seems to go your way.

The Sun is ruled by the Sun, of course.

This is the light that comes after the long dark night, Apollo to the Moon's Diana.

A positive card, it promises you your day in the sun.

Glory, gain, triumph, pleasure, truth, success.
As the moon symbolized inspiration from the unconscious, from dreams,
this card symbolizes discoveries made fully consciousness and wide awake.

You have an understanding and enjoyment of science and math, beautifully constructed music,
carefully reasoned philosophy.

It is a card of intellect, clarity of mind, and feelings of youthful energy.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

What type of person are you? ( from MySpace )

Well Rounded

You're the kind of person who is in the middle.
You have a little bit of everything.

You can be assertive, you can be funny, you can be caring and you can mind your own bees-wax.

You seem to be on a middle ground.

My advice, keep doing what your doing, and keep that balance.

"Silence"

Why, my love, doth thee naught speak?
Tis it because thy will is weak?
Dost thou naught look up, to see the sky?
And sit in darkness and wonder why?
Tis it because thou hast suffered pain?
And hast sworn ye will naught love again?
Hast thy heart become too cold?
Dost thou thinkest ye hast become too old?
Or tis it an ever mounting fear?
Grown stronger with every passing year?
Or, my love, dost thou still holdeth too many unshed tear?

"The Name Of The Rose"

The name of the Rose
The blood red rose
O’ sweet lovely rose
She of poetry and prose
When you hold her close
Thy name me thinks is passion

After a fashion
Love is but a sensation
Felt by the people of all nations
‘Tis all the same
Life all but a game

Yet still we remain
In both chorus and refrain
Drawn by her beauty
Pierced by her thorn
So often forlorn
Sometimes tattered and torn

Yet what would be life without her.

"Starry Starry Night"

Starry Starry Night
Bedazzled splendor to delight
A feast upon the naked eye
Strewn across the midnight sky

Starry Starry Night
Across the heavens in eternal flight
Way up in the air so high
Throughout the universe you do fly

Starry Starry Night
Shining jewels so beautiful and bright
Spread your light for all to see
What God's hand has wrought to be

Starry Starry Night
So wonderful a sight
Shine your light down on me
That I may gaze in wonder upon thee

"Galadriel"

‘Twas once upon a midsummer’s night
I chanced to meet the Lady of Light
From far away, through a misty sheen
A most beautiful creature, the elven queen

Was I awake, or was it only a dream
It had to be real, or so it seemed
For mere mortal to be graced with such beautiful splendor
A thrill deep in my soul it did render

As elven folk gathered round glowing hearth
Deep in the woods of old Middle earth
