No petunias here. Just a fern on the front porch..have to water it every morning. My sunflowers came up and did well this time. As well as the zinnias out on the front steps by the driveway. We hope to see chances of rain all this week. It bypassed us last night. It's 92 this afternoon. One day closer to fall. The fireworks here were still going last night. I'm glad it's all over with.
Hi Darlene! we finished the 4th of July puzzle on Saturday, and started this cute puzzle yesterday!
I hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend...we stayed in and watched some of the Disney all day special, David Muir going to the Grand Canyon and talking with the real Americans that have been in this country thousands of years before the Europeans got here, was outstanding!
Darlene, hope you're off to a good start to a great week! Storms did seem to cut down on the local noise. Fireworks are not allowed in my condo complex, so the ruckus comes from surrounding areas. Thankful my dog is not bothered. He barks at the sound of bangs and thunder. We used to take Jasper & my now deceased dog Guinness to firework shows. They were unbothered by it. Yeah, halfway thru summer--
Good Morning, Melinda. The 4th is a holiday everyone in the house celebrates differently Two went out to a fireworks display, two stayed at the house with us but watched their own TV all night. My husband got extra sleep. And I watched the final hours of Disney's celebration that concluded with a fireworks display from Nashville, Tennessee. After years of going out in the heat and humidity to watch fireworks, I watch it on TV now in air-conditioned comfort. Since we're in July now it's hard to tell if we're in a heat dome. It's normal for it to be in the 90s every day. I heard from friends who live in Europe that they are still suffering in the excessive heat. We're not due for a cool down till mid September. Autumn! Please come early.
Hi Darlene. Have just got back from the Scrabble group and after making a cup of tea settled down with my laptop and saw your message. I was thinking of you over the weekend and wondering about the holiday celebrations that were happening your way. I presume lots of fireworks and noisy events going on. Those thunderstorms would have added to all that too. I also don’t like those realy loud claps of thunder. That worries me more than the lightning. At least you had some rain with the storms. It’s the dry storms in summer that I don’t like as they start so many bushfires. I can imagine how frightened Kizzy must have been. Most animals hate storms. My chillipepper would hide under the bed or blankets during storms and both channie and muffy were/are frightened. Oh yes, I love petunias and always plant a few each spring at the back on the retaining wall section. They do look great in hanging baskets too. Such tough colourful plants. Those humid heat waves are so uncomfortable and hard to live with. I hope it soon passes you by. I’ve got to have another blood test next Friday and other tests then see the dr next week but at this stage the treatment seems to be helping so I can only hope. Temps are in the low 50’s now after being in the high 30’s this morning. It’s going to be colder tonight. We did manage to have some more rain. The lower parts of the state are having more. Love your rose page:) Will chat some more later. Hugs to you.
Hi Darlene! I'm still working on my page, and hadn't found a header that I like, so I will probably go ahead and use a premade layout...I just don't know yet! LOL!
Looks like rain chances this evening...now we wait. It's been a lazy day here. We did have a few errands yesterday, and visited friends over in SC on Friday. A former coworker of David's..he recently moved back here from California. Has a lot of work to do on his house in SC, but should get everything done in a few weeks. Hope all is well your way.
Hi there Darlene! I do decorate the tree all yr long. Next is the 'Golden Summer' tree. I'll share pics. Thx for asking. It's neat you keep trees up all yr too! I am not alone--
Like many, I used to do a lot over the 4th. For yrs with the kids, we went to his parents or our high school friends' home because we could watch community fireworks from their yards. Then we cycled to having 4th of July pool parties at our house. By 2011 I was tired of the noise of neighborhood fireworks, so we started going out of town--to Frankenmuth MI, Mackinaw City & Frankfort MI. By 2019 I had my fill of traveling & fireworks shows. Home sweet home for us. Nice picnic style dinner, son comes over & peace because fireworks are not allowed in our condo complex. Hope you have a safe & happy Fourth. Cyndi
View from our window where we stayed at in Bryson City.Tuckasegee River, which runs straight through downtown, while the surrounding area serves as a major hub for world class whitewater rafting, trout fishing, and family friendly tubing on nearby waterways.
97 here today..looks like we're in for a continued heatwave till end of next week...daily rain chances most of next week as well. Our entertainment was a lot of walking and shopping. We dined out a few times. Had leftovers from 2 meals. The train ride was nice. It was not crowded, but will be for sure this weekend. The place we stayed in was quiet and situated right in front of a river. Very peaceful and family owned. It was just 3 miles to Darnell Farms. We went there on Sunday and bought tomatos, potatos, cabbage, bell peppers, banana peppers, lemons, and a jar of chow chow (homemade relish). When we left to return home on Monday, it was 73.
♪♫♪ "summer is here, and the time is right for dancing on the beach ♪♫♪ " LOL for some reason, when I found this graphic, Dancing in the Street by Martha and the Vandellas popped into my head, so I changed the end of this part of the song to go along with the goose! I hope you have a wonderful day Darlene!
I hope you had a good weekend Darlene, it's so hot here, I have the "blahs" LOL! We have finished that 1st 4th of July puzzle, with the old car in it, now we're working on the one with the army Jeeps in the parade...so far, it's been an "easier" one to work! LOL!
Heading home tomorrow (Monday)..Rain moved in this morning, but it has cleared out, and we have enjoyed the cooler temps. Of course, back hom, next weeks weather will be a hot one indeed. I'll be staying inside. A friend has been coming by to feed the cats. How are things your way?
it's a good day to have a good day, AND weekend Darlene! my hubby and I take turns working the puzzles, he'll sit for a while and "put a few pieces in" as he calls it, sometime stays for an hour, or 2, depending on if it's a day he's working or not, and I go back and forth during the day/evening, if he's as work. We have a big stash of fall and winter puzzles, that we've bought when they were on sale, so we won't run out any time soon! LOL!
I wish I liked watermelon--melons in general--but I don't. The taste isn't terrible, but I haven't bought melons to eat since I was on my own in my 20s. Watermelon so represents summer though, doesn't it? My hubby and I went to DQ at the end of May. One where you go to the window and then take it back to your car. Of course because of the time of year I got a strawberry cheesecake Blizzard! I used to love the strawberry shortcake ice cream bars from Good Humor. Remember the days of the ice cream man? Haven't seen a truck since my kids were little in the 90s.

Good morning Cyndi - Do you like watermelon? Sometimes I get on a watermelon kick -usually during the summer months. Haven't had any since last fall, so maybe I'll start up again. I bought a watermelon knife last summer. They are so hard to cut, so my husband cuts it up for me. Do you ever go to Dairy Queen? We stopped in DQ on Thursday and I ordered a butterfinger Blizzard. I also like the Oreo ones too. What flavors do you like best? Good night to you.. xx hugs
Good Morning, Melinda. I do indeed like watermelon. It's one good thing about summer. The summer heat is much too much to appreciate the season. I do go to Dairy Queen sometimes if the lines aren't too long. I like a carmel nut sundie or a Blizzrd, especially when it's very hot. Have a nice weekend.
