Hey there Darlene! Each day closer to fall. I do decorate my tree for fall. I used to have a Sept look, a Halloween look & a Thanksgiving look. Now I just have an overall autumn theme.
The home I lived in for 16 yrs had a fireplace, but I only did a fire about 4 times before I thought this is too messy & smelly. I grew up with a fireplace my parents used a lot, but as an adult I said, "Forget this!" I put a 9 candle black iron holder in the hearth & lit candles. In my condo I have a gas hearth. I didn't like the smell. The TV sits in front of the fireplace. I do have a cute electric one in the basement, which is an Irish pub. The previous owners finished the area with a stone bar and Tudor style walls. It's a nice family room.
My fav reading genres are fantasy & historical fiction and mysteries. Two favorite mystery series are Alan Gordon's Fools Guild Medieval mysteries & Deanna Raybourn's Veronica Speedwell Victorian mysteries. And I have been recollecting childhood favorites, buying them off ebay. The Secret Garden was a great book. I remember VC Andrews was so popular when I was in high school in the late 70s. I read the book Flowers In The Attic but none of the other sequels. One way to get into a reading habit is finding that author you really like & working your way thru a series. And I love rereading favorites. Like watching a favorite movie over and over. Is there a movie you love to watch again and again? For me it's The Princess Bride. All the best to you - Cyndi
40 days till Fall. Our heat index has returned..and it's going to be hanging around thriugh the next week or so. Yesterday, the humidity was low. I'll be staying indoors as much as possible. Hope you're doing well.
Hello Darlene! did you have a great weekend? we had a good visit with my step daughter Tamara and grand daughter Jenna, it was so good to see Jenna again, she's been in Thailand teaching for 2 yrs. I'm going to go over to T.J. Maxx to get me a new nightgown, a smaller one! I've lost enough weight my old ones hang off of me... YAY!!
Positive vibes for the week ahead. I have been enjoying my golden summer since the 2nd week of July, but now seemed a great time to share as the summer wanes.
You're so nice to ask. When I was in 4th grade, I read the first Alice book and loved it. So it stems from childhood onward; I was so excited to take a college class where the Alice books were required reading & then the prof barely discussed them. At an adult level, they are societal satire. For myself I feel the need for a certain amount of online anonimity when one is on a site open to anyone contacting me. (Though I do share my name if asked, and I have gotten to know ladies here whom I share FB connections with.) Alice imagery and the Victorian era works very well here. I have a list of the many Alice movies made through the years on my page. While I liked the Tim Burton movies, they aren't like the books at all. Do you have a favorite book or genre? ~ Cyndi
happy Friday Darlene! LOL isn't this just about the darn truth? My step daughter Tamara and grand daughter Jenna, are coming for the weekend. Jenna has been teaching in Tailand, so I'm really excited to see her! While they are here, my husband will drop the AC down from 78* to 76* for their comfort.
Darlene, a good mid-week to you! Ahhh-if I could command the months I would keep 4 seasons because I do love the changes. But I would lengthen the colorful part of fall & the flowering part of spring. I'd have more temperate summer & winter--never above 82 for summer nor below 32 for winter.
Hello Darlene, yes, I like to change my page pretty frequently. Those watermelons sure looked good though. Yes, we can grow watermelons here, they get very large too, when we have enough rain that is. Hubby has okra growing now and it's getting big. Hope your mid week is good.
Hello Darlene! I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday! We're finally getting a new battery for my car today, the old one just won't hold a charge any more
Hi Darlene. I’m sitting here thinking about preparing something for supper. I’ve a leftover cooked chicken that I must use plus sweet and sour sauce. That will be a base. Muffy had a bath and clip yesterday. He is looking quite smart. This time I had a lass with a Mobile dog grooming outfit and she comes to your home. I’ve booked her again for him to be done in 9 weeks. I like your garden layout. Such a pretty pink. I have some Iris bulbs that were given to me last week that I must plant. I haven’t felt up to it but must set to tomorrow and pop them into soil. Chat again. ~Hugs ~Pat~
Have a great week. Time to get in those last summer adventures. Did you like going to fairs? Even though I was only 3, I remember the New York World's Fair. My dad was stationed at the Naval Reserve Center Long Island at the time. Disney's 'It's A Small World' ride looms large in my memories. I still have pics of my family sitting at the fountain surrounding the Unisphere.
August occupies a unique space in the calendar. For many, it is the peak of summer, but for those who find little joy in the heavy heat, it represents something far better: a threshold. It is the final gateway to the "ber" months, a period of cooling air, shortening days, and the quiet comfort of autumn. I'm with you on the countdown..although August is my birthday month, toward the end. David finished his cardio classes.llast one was Tuesday of this week..36 total..began back in March. Now if the stresses of his job would end, or at least slow down. We will be going down to visit my sister in law the first weekend of September..it will mark the one year anniversary of my brother's passing. We may do a day trip for my birthday. The beach trip is already booked for October.
