Hi Ric. Yes, it’s getting a bit late in the season now to grow tomatoes from seeds so give it a try next spring but use potting mix soil rather than the vermiculite. Put the soil in pots with drainage holes and poke some holes in the soil to drop the seeds in. Potting mix soil has the correct amount of both Vermiculite and perlite plus other ingredients so you don’t need to use anything else. Sounds like you have stocked up with lots of peanuts for those little guys. I guess it’s the same family that keep comming back each day. I saw on the news about the wildfires in Spain, greece and france so I’m assuming the heat wave will eventually get your way again. Not long now and we will be in August so your summer will soon be over. What have you got planned for this week? You must be caught up with all those outdoor chores apart from watering the lawn grass. Nothing much going on here. We have a mixture of rainy days, frosts and partial sunshine. We've gotten 3" of rain so far, and a little more is in the forecast for Sunday. The squirrels have been active. All,of a sudden they see, to be coming out from nowhere. I'll need to replenish the bird feeders again tomorrow. The week was a blur..July is almost over.

Hi Ric. Well, that hot spell sure does not sound pleasant. I like your idea of feeding the squirrels cold peanuts. That should help them get through the heat. I like putting a sprinkler on the lawn and watch the birds having a shower. They love it. Yes, it’s best to stay indoors where its cooler. Theres always something to do there. I imagine it’s not just the grass that’s burning off. I would think many plants would be getting scorched too. Actually tomatoes survive quite well during the hot weather as long as they are watered daily. We grow ours outdoors in the ground and they survive in temps well over a 100+. The sun may scorch the upper leaves and parts of the tomatoe in the direct light but the lower branches do ok. We had unexpected rain yesterday. The Bureau did not forecast it (they goofed again as usual) The morning began sunny but by midday we had showers through till this morning. Its partly cloudy this afternoon.
