FANTASY'S MAGICAL DREAM
Transported once again in middle of the day, as the sun approaches the noontime sky, to those magical realms once reserved for the night, taking my hand and inviting me into the wonder and magic inside.
All that I've dreamed of, but only at night, in this one special place as the sun is so bright, castles and rainbows and carousels in the air, clocks with no hands and time without end, deserts and mountains and oceans afar. And within the magic of this wondrous sight my imagination wanders delighting in the scene, inhaling these wonders of fantasy's magical dream of day.

WITHIN THE GLOW
Swirling about, tumbling, falling, as they begin to spill onto the pillow, night overtaking emotions worn thin and begging for the renewal of moonbeams and stardust and angels' wings. And as they threaten to drown this restless heart, ink begins to flow with the tears of the night and the brilliance of the full moon streams through the window and fills the room, the magic of night finally settling upon the day and my weary heart.

TRANSCENDING THE KEYS
Upon the breath of a melody rhapsodic into the night, his hands dance lightly across the keys, stopping at each one, the black and the white, the flats and the sharps, the high notes and the low, the rough and the smooth, the fast and the slow, caressing each melodic tone one by one, shaping them making them his own, molding them as they find their way to my heart. And for a time, measured as it is, the harmonies drift through the coffee-brewed corners, soothing and rich, in velvety smooth darkness, a keyboard of dreams works its magic one exquisite note at a time, soothing to this dreaming heart simply trying to find its way in the dark as their release is my release, as I dance across the keys, adding my own notes along the way, transcending the keys and lost within the moment.

JUBILANT
Outstretched wings embracing life, once soaring but almost out of sight, my thoughts transported once again to places only dreamed of when they seemed so remote and beyond my reach always outside reality's door.
But as I consider them once more, those dreams that seemed so very far away, I see them so much better now, coming more clearly into view. And as I reach for them, I'm almost there, just one more step and I can touch the sky as soaring with them, there's no stopping me.

SUMMER'S CHILD
The old canoe, the river, swimming in the lake, those times we thought would last forever, those endless summer days as we chased each other into the sunsets of those steamy August nights, fireflies twinkling just beyond our reach as again and again we tried to capture our dreams.
Roller skates and hide-and-seek, running bases till darkness fell; marbles and hopscotch just a few of those games that we would play until our eyes finally closed on those long summer days and we dropped into bed, overtaken by dreams of spaceships and Sputnik and the seas that we would sail into tomorrow and beyond when again we would wake up before the sun and the birds, already dreaming and scheming, of more games that we would play.
And as the day unfolded the hours one by one, the children of summer got together once more, meeting at the park and playing 'till dark, doing all the important things.
Those endless days remembered well through memory's veil memories fragile and delicate as bubbles on a summer's day, fleeting moments recaptured and tucked away for safekeeping in that very special place where precious things are kept, before they float away, games so often re-played, those games of summers past, and remembered once again on a morning such as this, floating upon the breezes of sweet memories.

I'm glad to be able to post this here in my own blog as a preview to what I'll be posting later on in the Legacy Writers II "Byways" Group Forum as we all continue to be frustrated by the "time-out" issues we've been experiencing over the past weeks. Here I am posting in the Groups and have a very difficult time getting in there myself. I really hope access improves as it simply makes me so very sad each week to have this continue to happen when there is so much beautiful work posted there in the forum.
Since it seems that last week's forum was hardly visited at all (and I hope it was due to the glitches and not anything else), I'll be glad to leave "Springtime Soaring Byways" posted at the end of this week's post over there. And finally, just something that I have found working better for me. I use the various browsers interchangeably (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer) as they aren't all compatible with all the various sites. Up until now I've been using Chrome to access "Boomer" -- but I have found over the past few weeks that I am having fewer time-outs when I use Internet Explorer. I have no idea why that is. But when I click on the mouse to access, I have to be sure to click firmly and make sure that I can see the little rectangle that appears at the bottom of my screen that tells me that it's working (as it fills up with green). At any rate, thanks for your patience and for your participation in "Byways" and the other Legacy Writers Groups that are able to post. Looks like I could have made my words above into a blog all by themselves. Hopefully, you've read far enough to read what is below. Thanks again. Hugs to All. ~bk~ ************** Byways With Barbara K # 24
Brushstrokes and Word Paintings II
(Posted 5-12-11)
Welcome to "Byways" this week, and I hope everyone has had a beautiful week.
Thanks always for visiting and participating as "Byways" really can't continue without you and your participation.
It hardly seems possible that just one year ago I was packing for three weeks in Oahu. I feel Hawaii calling my name and hopefully will get back there in the near future.
In the meantime, I do love art and all the forms it takes -- painting, drawing, literature, music -- all so different and all so meaningful to me. I'm still fascinated by the entire creative process.
Whether or not we paint or sculpt or create beautiful music with instruments, we are all able to create amazing word pictures as though we were actually painting with a brush on a canvas.
We paint wonderful pictures with our words every day. And we have such amazing opportunities to do exactly that as we experience the sights and sounds around us.
Mono Lake in California is one of those magical places where the art of the brush and the art of the pen often converge.
And wherever we happen to be, we have opportunities to paint what we see with our words.
And some words to inspire our thoughts:
“Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint you can on it.â€
~Danny Kaye~
“Poetry is the impish attempt to paint the color of the wind.â€
~Maxwell Bodenheim~
“Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those, who do not write, compose, or paint can manage to escape the madness, the melancholia, the panic fear, which is inherent in a human conditionâ€
~Graham Greene~
“I dream of painting and then I paint my dream.â€
~Vincent van Gogh~
“Often while reading a book one feels that the author would have preferred to paint rather than write; one can sense the pleasure he derives from describing a landscape or a person, as if he were painting what he is saying, because deep in his heart he would have preferred to use brushes and colors.â€
~Pablo Picasso~
“A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.â€
~Abraham Maslow~

SPILLING OVER
Through the shaded lenses of this late afternoon, my world rounds the bases, the bats making contact with the ball over and over and over, my concentration broken as I try to follow them, within the glare of the day, the rough edges of my heart trying to restrain the uninvited emotions clamoring for my attention; threatening to erupt, to spill over, as I pay them so very little attention, but they don't, except as they drop, one by one, on a page, one of many pages bound together in random overflowings, mostly kept silent, seldom shared, seldom . . . . but every once in a while seeping through the cracks, drop by drop onto this blank page as I try to make some sense of it all. And the pen stops halfway through a thought as it's interrupted by life.

WHAT DO THE GROWNUPS KNOW?
My dad used to say way back then, back in the 50's when I would watch him each day simply shaking his head and wondering why anyone would listen to the music I played on the radio and on those 45's and lp's. "Elvis and the likes of him," he would say, "they'd never last if it were up to him". And the grownups said, "They won't endure," "Not Elvis, not the Beatles, and most definitely not Rap."
And just a few years later I heard my dad's words coming back to me and out of my own mouth as the music of the 80's blared on the TV and I shook my head and said (to myself), "That music won't last, if it's up to me." But what did I know? I didn't have a clue, for it looks to me like the grownups were wrong just this one time, and rap and the rock and that music that grew out of an 80's point of view, has lasted and endured until this day, and not looking like it's going to go away.

MAKING WAY ONCE MORE
Ducklings everywhere I look, on the sidewalks and on the stairs, crossing streams
and paddling about, climbing banks and climbing rocks.
Ducklings, ducklings EVERYWHERE just like I saw them on the pages of one of my very favorite books.
And when they grow up they'll take flight, trying out their wings and flying away, testing the waters and testing the air.

But when the flowers begin to bloom they'll land back here and I'll see them again
with a new batch of ducklings everywhere as I smile, making way for the ducklings following Mama everywhere
 in the Spring.

Robert McCloskey (September 14, 1914 – June 30, 2003) is an American author and artist and inventor of wonderfully imaginative things whose stories have delighted children and adults alike for decades. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio where the Robert McCloskey Museum is an absolute treasure and many of his stories are set in New England which reminded him of his home in Ohio. He was living in Main when he died.
Wikipedia is a good starting point for bibliography and background.

I'm glad to be able to share one of my very favorite authors from my "list" of so many favorite authors.
