The short straw
Posted On 06/14/2015 01:49:57

It has been a hectic 4 weeks but at last I now know what it is. I will share my oldest daughters post but the short of it is SHORT and not good.

The diagnosis is in! Not what we were hoping for but it's what we expected. After nearly two months of waiting and testing it's Liver Cancer! The Oncologist is putting Dad on a pill form Chemo called Nexavar. She said since Dad is not the typical liver cancer patient (meaning he does not have cirrhosis or previous liver disease) she is hoping he will handle the treatment well. This was a shock even to her, she did not expect Liver Cancer. She said it is most definitely the Agent Orange from Vietnam that caused this. Dad does not drink and does not have Hepatitis.

We are relieved to finally have a diagnosis and can move forward. The Oncologist has given Dad 7- 10 months with this treatment. It's a short time so we have a lot of squeezing in to do.

It has been a stressfull time but now I have time to put my things in order before I hit the deep six. I have a bucket list trip planned in Auguest 13-21st on a Royal Caribbean cruise. I hope I will be well enough to enjoy it. I have the bucket list posted on my facebook page under squintyren. Both of my daughters families are going as a final swan song. There will be nine of us going on the cruise with 3 of those being my grand kids 2 girls and 1 boy.

I have been having sick days where I am worn out much easier. I should start the oral meds in about a week.

I want to thank you all for your post and well wishes. Things should start slowing up after next week and I will have more time to be on here.

BIG HUGS----RON

The Bucket List
Posted On 05/24/2015 07:29:31

This cancer of mine was just found about two weeks ago. It is terminal. Maybe 1 1/2 to 2 years. My chemo treatments begin on Wednesday May 27th. Keep your fingers crossed. My family wondered if I had some where I wanted to go. Trip to Italy as the artist in me panted for. A cruise in the Northern Caribbean, good idea, or one along the Eastern up to Holifax, Canada seaboard---- right up this ship historian alley. But, Alaska was perfect. The great outdoors, the scenery, the last of the old west with moutains, timber and gold mines and glaciers to see before they fall in the ocean. There be whales a flipperin by. All my family jumped for that one as did me so let us all go as a family. Planned for Auguest 14th -the 21st. That will be great. But, your prayers and concerns are just as important to me.  We are BOOMERS and you are on my short friends list. I look upon each of you as a part of my extended big family. For that friendship I am eternally grateful for that love and affection. Thank you So much. Ron aka Squinty the pirate.

STAGE 4---OOOOPS!
Posted On 05/20/2015 11:53:56

Under went the knife again yesterday (Tuesday). Monday was the removal of two lymph glands in my left neck for biopsy. Result---stage 4 cancer metestatic squamous cell carcinoma also in the liver. Without treatment I was facing 3-5 months but with chemotherapy maybe 2 years. Yesterday (TUESDAY) was to install a port in my right upper shoulder to accommodate the chemotherapy I will be having to slow up the inevitably. I have a lot of arrangements to do as to family affairs and looking out for Lady Dianna who has dementia. As to second opinions I have had three CT scans a great oncologist with Texas Oncology in Frisco, Texas. The doctor who performed the biopsy who is my surgeon, the doctor who read my biopsy, as well as my family doctor and my diabetic doctor who found my cancer. I am being scheduled for a PET scan to start chemo treatments Thursday morning Tomorrow, at 5: AM. The chemo will start the 27th at 2:00 PM. The cancer is spread through out my body and is in my liver (gulp!) I am hoping the chemo will be effective and extend me some extra time. But at least I will go down swinging. Thanks to all for your vote of confidence and support. I would like to make TRF this year a few times. I really miss my Renaissance fair family as well as my close personal friends..
Love and a big hug to you all!

Cancer update
Posted On 05/13/2015 10:25:16

I went to my new Oncologist on Tuesday at 3:00 PM. I have seen the radioloest report sent to my Doctor from the hospital from last Tuesday. We discussed my Lymph system problems. I an scheduled to see a surgen on Thursday to remove a lymph gland in my neck to do a biopsy. Then back to the cancer doctor on Tuesday May 19th  to get result of the biopsy to determ the treatment required. She also drew about 9 viles of blood for testing purposes. At least I have the ball rolling. Going to get a lower admoden and pelvice CT scan probably on Friday. My wife and my two daughters went to Texas Oncology appointment with me. They are being very supportive as well. More news as I get it.

OH NO! looks like the BIG "C"
Posted On 05/08/2015 11:03:50

It has been a hecktet week since I got home from Vacation. I had a CT scan of my neck when something showed up on a sono gram of my neck. So they wanted a CT scan on Tuesday on my neck and chest. The finding was not good. I have things going on with my lymph system in my left side and center part of my chest with two spots on my liver. My doctor called me on Wednesday afternoon with the news and I went to his office Thursday morning. Looks like I have cancer. Talked to my two daughters last night to come up with plans if this or that happens. I have an appointement with an Oncologiest on Tuesday May 12th at the Texas Oncology Clinic. I will be getting more scans with one of them being a PET scan. Then we will see what needs to be done. I don't feel bad and all this came as quite a shock. So Ka ser rah ser rah!. I just turned 73 April 3rd. SO---That is all I know right now. It has been tough.

LOVE and HUGS----Ron-------

HOME AGAIN
Posted On 04/30/2015 09:01:53

I am back home from my weeks vacation. It will take me a day or to get myself caught up with all my snale mail, bills, and going through my e-mails. So hang in there and I will get back to my ever loving self. Had a good time with friends in Wichita, Kansas as well as looking over my old stomping grounds there as that is where I lived for my first 40 years. and my brother and sister in law in Tulsa, Oklahoma. All my families graves were decorated in Washington, Oklahoma and Wichita, Kansas. The rain held off in Washington, Ok but it was on my tail pretty close. Now the washing machine is getting a work out followed by the dryer. I hate folding and hanging up cloths.  Take care my friends until later.---LOVE and Hugs---RON-----

VACATION TIME
Posted On 04/22/2015 10:55:01

Looks like another rainy day from today, Wednesday, all the way through Friday with Friday being the most sever day with a 50% chance of tornados.

BUT!! That isn’t the most important news. Beginning Friday April 24 I will be off line. My wife and I are going on vacation and we will return next Thursday April 30th. It will be our first vacation we have had in the last 2 years. Our plan is to place decorations on family members buried at Washington, Oklahoma (my side of the family Parents, Aunt, Uncle, Grand Parents, Great Grand Parents and a cousin of mine that died at the age of 3 back in the 1940’s.

Then we continue on north to Wichita, Kansas to decorate my Grand Mother (Dads Mom and his brother, my uncle) then my wife’s parents. In Wichita we will also visit family (my two nieces and their families as well as my wife’s brother and sister-in –law) as well as our friends who we attended church with back in the 70’s 80’s and early 90’s. Then we are off to my brother and sister in law in Tulsa, Oklahoma as well as our friends who were in our wedding party back in 1966. Art’s (my BESTMAN) wife Jean was my girlfriend back in our freshman year in High School. I stood her up at the roller skating rink and Art stole her from me! BUT---- that was ok because I then dated Jean’s younger 3 sisters! HAA HAA!!  I was welcomed as a part of Jean’s family.

SO--- while I am gone you all stay out of trouble!

LOVE and HUGS!----Ron-----
