I hope this finds you safe and warm...we're still iced in, hoping today will be warm enough to melt the ice on the driveway and roads...hubby tried to go out yesterday, but he doesn't have 4 wheel drive, so he didn't make it past out neighbors house..School is out for the 3rd day.

I hope you're having a good afternoon Darlene

01/26/2026 02:38:44

Good Morning, Melinda. We were lucky. The storm came and the freezing rain fell, but it wasn't severe enough here to cause falling power lines  and downed tree limbs on the power lines. Major streets get plowed but residential streets don't . We have to wait for warmer temperatures to melt the snow or ice. It was below freezing all day and into the night, so not much has improved with the streets in the condition they are in now. The best thing that happened was that the freezing rain stopped late today. Other areas of the state had worse weather than we did. This may contain: two kittens sitting in a pink toy car that says, we arrived happy monday

Hi Darlene we  got the snow they predicted , but not no 3 inches  more like 5 inches as it  snowed all night and day here.  They were saying it was going to stop ,but it never did.

But the snow was very light not heavy at all.

Not much ice  .

You know i went outside today and from those terrible windchills we been having from before it felt like springtime ouside.

and it was only 5 above zero.

I was pretty bundled up more than usual though.

Wow over a foot of snow .You had a foot of snow earlier  didn`t you?

This week is staying in the teens, but  im getting to the store and stocking  up again and ill be good till the end of February.   OMG 16 inches

You have a lot of pine trees out there right? Just think if those trees were not there  to help take in the snow that comes down .

Is the snow light  or heavy?

There is a weather pattern that is happening   and it seems to happen every 10 or more years

.I guess it s time for that again

Things will get better once  the streets get plowed and the sidewalks get shoveled

.Its the ice  you have to worry about so it does not cause damage to the house.

I have  had pumpkin seeds too  that i bought and never finished them.

Its a pain trying to crack that shell

Its not worth the effort.  Do you eat them whole? i have sometimes.

They not too filling .

This month went  by sort of pokey .

I may have sunflower seeds.

They are  sort of  like pumpkin seeds  only a different taste..

I dont have the patience to crack them open .I don`t eat many anyway .

They don`t have many cabs in our city anymore  they have ubers. If one needs a ride you just call and Uber and he`ll take yo where you want to go.

Someday i might try it.

Stay well out there  xRick

Hi Darlene. Its mid afternoon here and currently in the high 90’s and not as hot as yesterday which was 105f. This week will be a scorcher with temps possibly going as high as 111f and much higher in towns/areas further north. Quite the contrast to what you have. That’s cold. No wonder your feet and legs feel cold. Everything would be litterally frozen. I can’t imagine going outdoors in those temps. I think I would hibernate till winter was over:).  I’ve found that as I’ve aged my body thermostat had altered dramatically. When I was younger the heat rarely bothered me but not so now. I’m happy with temps up to the 70’s and low 80’s now. Just think we both have another month or two before the more moderate temps set in.

That’s interesting regarding the wood on your porches. The noise of it cracking would make a person jump. The neighbour south of me has a tree that overhangs my back porch and on calm days branches small enough not to damage but large enough to make a loud noise,  frequently drop on the Perspex roof causing a loud noise. When I first heard it I wondered what was happening but I’m used to it now. I won’t venture into the damage the roots of the tree are doing to my Pavers.   It’s the Australia Day holiday this weekend with many celebrations and activities on across the country.  Needless to say I won’t be venturing out.

Regarding the music.  At one stage I did try to learn the piano and stuck to it for about 2 years but finally gave up when my teacher asked me to play the tunes that she had set me as homework. When I was part way through a rather difficult song she burst out laughung. I stopped playing and asked her was it so bad. She said no you have it all correct except the section your playing is on the other page to what you are reading. Problem was I had memorised the tunes. That’s when I realised I was wasting her time so gave up learning.  One of my brothers played the guitar by ear/memory and he was good.  That’s such a pity you never got to learn the instrument you liked.  Playing music is a little like gardening. Once you get involved you tend to lose yourself and totally relax.

Thanks for checking up and caring Darlene. It’s greatly appreciated. Yeah, there are some days I don’t get on here as not up to scratch but that can’t be helped:). Chat again. *Hugs* Pat.

Hello Melinda. The freezing rain started around 8 p.m. and is forecast to hang around all of Sunday into Monday. And there will be an accumulation on roads, trees, and  power lines. We were warned, expect outages. The local weather predictors tell us there hasn't been an ice storm like the one were having now in over 20 years. That does not make me feel better.I just wish it was over and done.

01/24/2026 02:02:35

Hello Melinda. It's almost  3:00 a.m. here in NC, 36 F, and the forecasters can't decide if we'll be getting an ice storm or snow. The residents here are taking this threat of bad weather very seriously. Supermarket shelves have been cleaned out of  many items. Store shelves haven't looked this bad since COVID.This may contain: a white kitten wearing a knitted hat next to a coffee cup with the caption when life gives you a blizzard make coffee and watch the snow

01/23/2026 20:09:27

Hi Darlene it is very bad out here.

10 minutes  you can get frostbit.

I dont thing the mail was delivered today.  If it was its alvways very late.

I do not know how  them squirells are aable to  deal with this cold.

They must know where to go in times like this but they come cause they know where their food awaits them .:)

They were saying  -12 below  and thats without the windchill.

You`re talking 30 to 40 mph winds.

Once in awhile to have  junk food is ok but not everyday ..

And after i eat i always go for a walk .

Always busy doing things during the day .

So for today i  made a box of macaroni and cheese quick an fast and i had my tyson chicken.and onion .

Not too healthy, but it  filled me up .

Too much of that processed junk can cause  inflammation so its best to always eat healthy

.In a couple of days it will be close to 4 weeks and will have to go shopping again.

Then ill be stocked up  again.

Im just  waiting now for the next best day to get out.

Its very cold out there by Summer but she didnt say how cold

.Its nice to get out and get to a nice restaurant   instead of  cooking . If its too icy its best to stay home or order out but that can take ages with weather   like  were having.  Stay well

01/21/2026 19:05:33

Hi Darlene!

we've finished these 2 puzzles this week, they are only 750 pieces so pretty "quick & easy"...

my husband will take them to work tomorrow (Thusday) to see if any of his co-workers would want them.

01/21/2026 19:00:54

WOW  you  turn the heat all the way to 77?

That furnace must be running constantly .

Aren`t you very warm during the night?  That is way too warm.

Im in a onesie and i use a thermal blanket  .

Do you try to block all your doors   or anywhere  cold air is seeping through.

You know in my bedroom i had them new windows put in and  you know they were so good they   did not need a storm window .Gilkey Windows

.I put plastic over  both windows anyways.

Both of my windows  have no storm window  but even so it is so dog gone hot in there  once that heat  kicks on .

65 is really nice for this type of weather.

You should try going down just a tadd try 75  and slowly work it down.

It was 28 today so i took advantage and  stocked up a bit . Had to get more chicken im limited as to what i can buy at that walgreens they only carry certain things

Everything is expensive.

Im waiting for senior citizens day again   the first Tuesday of  each month we  get a discount  off what we buy .

Did you see i have the ground hog out already lol

Funny how he knows  to come out on the 2nd of February.

Have a good evening Darlene

01/21/2026 12:06:43

I hope you have a great middle of the week Darlene!

Hello Friends,

01/21/2026 01:41:57

Good Morning, Melinda. The cold has reached us in the piedmont area of North Carolina, but not the snow. It was in the 40s  yesterday and tonight it's in the 20s. My car broke down and stranded me yesterday and I had to get AAA to come and tow my car. I'm hoping today will be better. Happy Wednesday.Story pin image

01/20/2026 14:22:13

I think in the past i might of  mentioned  the temp i keep on the thermostat  like 61 or 62 .

When you get exceptional cold weather like now i move the  temperature up.

So its up to 65.

Rooms i dont use  stay closed.

At  nighttime  i`m  wearing a onsie  under  a thermal blanket i feel like  a piece of burnt toast.

 Too warm .

I keep the bedroom door opened so the air  can get out of there .

I do sometimes  run a fan, but i have it inside a double door closet  with sliding doors  and it is set up where all i have to do is reach over my bed to turn it on or off .

The closet is  way on the other end.

I have it opened   just right and i have the air blowing  toward the closet wall not towards me.

I run a humidifier all day along so it helps with the dry air.

I just hanging in there.

It`s all we can do .

We had it here where it was 1 below, but  being out side in it felt like  -20 below .

In 30 minutes one  can get frostbite.

I checked all around for air leaks and block what i could to make things better.  I still like autumn the best.

So its really not too bad in the house .Most of  the windows  have plastic over them .

Even downstairs.

I have the bottom of the front and back door  covered up  as well.

Hi Darlene! Today we're having sunshine...and it's 47* outside, but we have a chance for a "wintery mix" this weekend!  probably not enough for a snowman though...

01/19/2026 18:19:25

Cold here all week..another wintry forecast has already been announced for next weekend. I got the old stove cleaned this afternoon. A natural degreaser really did great...it looks new again. We bought the stove July 1996. Hardly use the oven, but it was the outside part that was so dingy. I started walking yesterday. Trying to keep this up twice every day. It really gives me energy. Now that we don't have a dog to walk, I knew missing on the exercise was causing me to become too lazy. Hope you have a wonderful new week ahead..

01/19/2026 13:29:47

Very nice page! When I'm feeling good, I'll go back to 'making my own' design.

Great-Day-snow-house

01/19/2026 13:05:38

A chilly week here..the snow went around us yesterday, but we have another chance of a wintry mix next weekend. The weather thus far this month has been mild. We haven't seen snow in 3 years now. Now we wait.

01/19/2026 05:01:59

Hi Darlene. Oh sorry, I had meant to get back to you earlier but got waylaid/distracted and that’s as far as I got.  The snow picture you sent is pretty but those temps are rather cold.  I imagine everyone wears suitable clothes that keep them warm when outdoors.

Yes summer is definitely here. Right now at 5.45pm the temp is still in the high 90’s. So far it’s a clear heat with low humidity. Last week we had a run of days 104 and higher but that’s to be expected this time of the year. It’s the wind and high temps that we dread along with dry storms and lightening. Most states suffered with bushfires but the worst was in Victoria with more that 30 fires started by lightening. Thousands of hectar’s of land have been burnt along with homes, farms, and animals. Fire units from our state went across to help.Thank goodness for the aircraft that work tirelessly to put out the blazes along with the many volunteers.

Re the keyboard. It’s a Yamaha that can be used either as a piano or organ with all the accessories. I mainly play using the orchestral sound and organ. I learnt the basics but usually play by ear/memory. I also taught myself the guitar and sang C/W as a duet with my sister at varius functions. That was fun.

Ah, it’s past 9.30pm and time to close down for the day. Nice chatting with you. Hugs. Pat.
