SUMMER DREAMS AND SUNSHINE SCHEMES -- CPC "Summer Daze"

SUMMER DREAMS AND SUNSHINE SCHEMES

We were children and dreamers,
for they went hand in hand,
together all the time
on those long summer days
as we made such big plans
from the dawning of the day
till so very late at night.

We were fast friends with big dreams,
on those lazy summer afternoons,
no end to our plans and schemes.
as we kicked up the sand on
sandcastled beaches of white,
dreaming dreams that childen dream
on those long summer days,
our imaginations running wild
with the hot summer sun.

We were fast friends with big dreams
that grew bigger with each day
on those lazy afternoons,
as big as the fish we were going to catch
in the morning with the new sunrise.
And at the end of each and every day,
as the sun began to set
and we gave our dreams a little rest,
these children of the summer sun,
fast friends to this day in our hearts
still play their summer games,
their laughter heard
in the memories treasured
from year to year
of summer dreams
and sandlot fun.

MOLTEN (photoblog) -- Drips of Ink/"Great Outdoors - Lava"

MOLTEN

Power unleashed
from its molten fiery core
spewing ash, soot and fumes

and obliterating all

relentlessly,

deliberately
flowing down to the sea,

lava fields stretching

as far as the eye can see.

And when all is quiet again,
life begins anew

amid the swirlings

and mosaics

and patterns

within the artwork

that has been wrought
by the Master Molder's hand.

THE TOUCH OF MY PEN -- CPC "Magic Mondays/The Magic of Ink"
Posted On 08/09/2011 04:20:47

THE TOUCH OF MY PEN

Words and lines tumble
about in my head
even before the sun
begins to shine
as they try to capture my attention
before the birds begin to sing
their symphonies of song;
these words beginning
their morning dance
within the pages of my heart
as they try to find
their way once more
to the blank canvas
that comes with dawn.
And I find these words,
random impressions and thoughts,
within the silent hush
each morning brings,
as I consider the empty canvas,
the white pages in front of me,
and try to capture
just the right words
to express exactly how I feel
and precisely what I see.
And within the words of morning,
I recall those yesterdays
and marvel once more at how
they eventually find their way,
if I just let them be
and leave them alone,
to the ink that fills up
those empty spaces
on the pages in front of me,
my canvas of morning
awaiting the touch of my pen.

HEARTLAND FLOW -- Drips of Ink "Favorite Authors/Carl Sandburg" -- in words...

HEARTLAND FLOW

Down country roads
and city streets,
down byways high and low,
where rivers flow
and cornstalks grow,
he has heard their songs,
the music of the cities
and the plains he knows.
The poet has heard
the wheat fields growing
in the heat of the summer;
he has felt the sweat
as it pours down his face
under an oppressive noonday sun.

And his boots that have finally
come to rest
have experienced it all --
they've ridden the rails
across desert sands;
they've stood on the platforms
of the shipping docks;
they've walked the urban sidewalks
of the Chicagoes of our land.
And he's inhaled the grit and grime
of the cities he knows so well,
and has lived the life
of which he writes,
the words flowing
from his pen to the page.

And as I read the poet's words
upon the pages
where his ink has flowed,
what he lived
and what he saw
brought to life
in such vivid
and powerful ways,
I am right there
on the streets of the cities
and toiling in the heartland
cornfield rows
within his poetic lines,
the sweat beginning
to pour down my face
on another
oppressive
summer's day.

THE DAWN UNFOLDING

BY BARBARA K

A CHERYL'S PALS COLLAB

As the dawn unfolds
with the rising sun,
sheer beauty divine
enveloping my day,
the birds of morning
once again greet me
with their symphony of
morning melodies.

And with their sweet song,
the fragrances of summer blooms,
scents of love and sweet wine so fine,
herbal essences, rosemary and gardenia
with just a hint of pine and flowers on the vine
adorn the air with such beauty and grace,
fields of daisies and Queen Anne's Lace,
luxurious flowers lining
the walkways of my day
in colorful melodious array,
sweeping all my cares away.

And as I awaken to this delight,
I can't help but join the flowers
in their sunshine dance of dawn
as together we sing another glorious
morning song to greet the day.

OF TRANSLUCENT DREAMS AND CRYSTAL BLUE -- Drips of Ink "Photo of Lost and F...
Posted On 08/06/2011 05:58:29

OF TRANSLUCENT DREAMS
AND CRYSTAL BLUE

Mystical magic,
crystal palaces bright
within this velvet
and moon-beamed night;
starlight glow transporting me
upon angels' wings
from reality of day
to soothing dreams of night.
And I marvel at what's there
within my sight -- spiraled
stairways to the heavens above
ascending to crystalline castles afar,
to that magical realm
of damsels and knights,
of silver and gold
and other precious things.

And as the glow of evening
envelopes another day
moonlight illuminating
where darkness had reigned,
with the upward flow
toward dreams fulfilled,
she pauses for a moment
in her elegant ascent,
in her journey toward
tomorrow and Heaven's door,
radiant within translucent crystal blue,
serenity descending upon the day
and shadows just beginning to fall.

And as I watch her there,
climbing higher and higher
upon those winding crystal stairs,
I begin to dream
sweet dreams of my own.

And as I dream,
I'm that child once more
when damsels and knights
were among the best of my friends
as we spent many
a summer's afternoon at play
until the sun finally set
at the end of the day.

JUST A TASTE . . . . (Drips of Ink "Blast From the Past/Moonshine")

Because this was such a lot of fun . . . . Glad to share a smile with my friends.

JUST A TASTE . . . .

They called it moonshine,
white lightning,
mountain dew,
distilled in the mountains
and back into the woods,
spirits potent and powerful,
manufactured in those hidden hills,
the tunes and tales of what went on
still sung and strummed to this day still
beyond the stills and hills
from whence they came.

And how I loved those
dear Baldwin sisters,
Misses Emily and Mamie
who lived just outside
the Walton's town --
and the "recipe" they shared,
"Papa's Recipe" they called it,
"harmless"
and "medicinal",
they said it was,
from "Papa's" magical "Machine".
And who could ever forget
those "Dukes of Hazzard" boys
their stunts and chases
and hairpin turns,
weekly adventures
on our TV screens.

It has been fun,
this moonshine theme,
and I'm happy to share
just a little taste here
of the musical moonshine
that I so very much love.

WITHIN THE GARDEN OF MY MORNING -- Drips of Ink/"The Great Outdoors - Garde...
Posted On 08/05/2011 10:06:33

WITHIN THE GARDEN OF MY MORNING

Strolling within the garden of my morning,
I stop and linger for a moment in that place
where butterflies grace the flowers
that still bloom and seem not to notice
my footsteps or my musings.
And as I stop to admire
the jewels I find within
their dew-drenched blossoms,
I search for words to capture
what I see upon this canvas
of morning beauty before me.

My soul is stirred,
my heart transported,
my imagination re-kindled
for a time as I take note
of the beauty of the morning
and inhale the fragrance
and the silence that
calms my heart
and soothes my soul
as the day begins amid
the rain-bowed splashes of color
painting my garden of morning
and drawing me
into the tranquil canvas.

SNAPSHOT MOMENTS ALL

Moments remembered,
frozen within time,
encapsulated memories
captured through the lens,
snapshots recalling
emotions tucked away,
almost forgotten
until reminded once again.

Black-and-white memories,
faded shades and hues
brought back into focus
as I view each treasured one,
snapshots of the smiles and tears
of family and cherished friends,
photos of birds and butterflies,
and other treasured things
emerging from the pages
of the photo album tucked away,
snapshots of long ago,
and even in black-and-white
I remember the colors so,
as bright and beautiful
now as then
in memories great and small,
I remember them well
as if yesterday
in snapshot moments all.
