2012 My Mountain News 0602
welcome home,dear hearts, welcome home!
Coffee's hot.. got the makings for hot chocolate and or tea. Snacks on the table... fattening! lolol
seems like I'm on an critter kick the last couple of days. I talk about the Newbie all the time. I had the best time with him and the rest of the six pack.
Ok, this is the Newbie on my full size bed. As I've said before, I've ridden ponies smaller...lolol
The Newbie trying to con Becky into letting him crawl on her lap! Can you say "no dice?" What a sweetie this dog. Yeah, the dog... not Becky lolol Wait till she hears about this remark. Then, I will HEAR about it. The two of them would crack me up! Beck would squall for help and would get no sympathy from me... she was on her own! The Newbie loved her. I have the giggles just thinking about the two of them... I really should have sat down with the two of them and explained the ''size'' situation and what does/doesn't work for lap sitting! The Newbers weighed in at/about 180 lbs.
As some of you know, Becky is one of my 'adopteds' lolol ... We would go shopping on her days off from work... Laffing and carrying on like a couple of school kids. I think we embarassed Nic Nak (my nickname for Beck's youngest daughter). We would get into a department store in Richmond.. I would tell the clerks Becky shoplifted. Beck would threaten:"you just wait! I'll get even!" I'd respond giggling: "not in this lifetime". Clerks would crack up.
Well we get up front to check out... I am writing a check... Beck tells the check out clerk that my checks will bounce. Oh dear...She got me... The next thing I know, 3 or 4 lines of people are cracking up! We didn't go back to that store for quite a while... I figured we would be arrested and hauled off for creating a disturbance the next time. NikNak didn't know us at all! lolol
I am finally learning to navigate without the comfort of Eons... MY OPINION ONLY!!! Eons will not be back... Thots on the situation: Eons opened a page for FB right after Eons was sold. And now, Facebook has a page devoted solely to Eons?... These two facts scream loudly in my brain... Just a thot.... I hope I am wrong but I don't think so.
And another Heads Up.... still looking for Popron-veteran from Utah... and what about TCornish from Iowa? Anybody heard from either one?
I guess that's it for now. Take care all of mine... Go in safety always.. Remember funny things and good things are worth remembering..
Many hugs...much love and loads of laffter... meems

Welcome home, dear hearts, welcome home
Get out here on the porch, grab a cuppa and a rocker and enjoy the quiet...Well, I do hear an owl down the holler but no singing from the coyote/wolves up the holler. I do miss the Newbie's sing songs...I was allowed to sing too... lolol Six dogs, at the time, and one gravelly voiced (me) human... In the house, howling for all we were worth.
And then, the Newbie would dance with the MOM when he came back in the house. A little bit of the bunny hop and a lot of un-named dance steps. What a wonderful way to start any day.
Looks like the News is gonna be about the critters today. Overnite!!!! The middle of the night, Stormy and Moose Foot started throwing 'alarm' fits.
Earlier in the day, Anna warned me to lock the doors. Weird feller, subject to violent and explosive type activities. He got away from his folks and is now wandering the hills and hollers... any time of the day/nite.
OK, so I lock doors. This means that everytime a critter wants out, I must get up and go open the back door. Now, the dogs want out.
I let them out... and as I said, the Storm and the Moose are on the back porch having a hissy fit. I bellow... they quiet down for a few... then off they go again. I grab the .38, go to the porch in the dark to listen. Nothing. I watch the dogs.. Nada on looking in a particular direction... I come back inside.
Now, the dogs are throwing hissies in the kitchen near the back door. Grab the pistol again. Out the door I go. Nothing again. But this time, I catch a small movement from the corner of my eye. I turn the porch lite on. Lo and behold, there between the tall cabinet (used as a windbreak) and the wall was the cutest lil 'possum. Teen-ager maybe? In possum years. Scared to death...sopping wet from the rain. What in the world was it doing on the deck? Did the dogs bring it up or did it come up looking for food?
So now I am sitting here in the apartment (minding my own business) pondering. I'm quite aware of the dangers inherent in having wild ones visit. However, it was following it's normal pattern of behaviour... and what is one more small mouth to feed?
I've lived in this house for what? Maybe 6 years? Seven? Heck, I don't know. But, I will say I've had an odd collection of critters show up at one time or another. Let's see... a huge snapping turtle, a young male raccoon, an elk across the road, a mountain lion and her cub, black snakes ( one inside the house in the bedroom doorway, two or three out back) An all black wooly worm in the drive way (this week), a squirrel, a Mocking bird who is learning to whistle the Streets Of Loredo. I've seen a bear cub... had a Bobcat cross the road right in front of me. Seen deer, turkey. Run my own 'Tarpin' (turtle/terrepin) rescue league. Tarpin is what they call the Box turtle down here.
Here in the mountains, Box turtles will cross the roads on rainy days. Roads are a lot cooler... Depending on who's driving, Tildy, the pick-up, stops... I get out...grab turtle and throw it in the back. When I get home, turtle goes into the outdoor pen. Dogs can't get to it and it can escape under the fence, over the hill out back and into the woods. WARNING here. NEVER run over a turtle if it can be avoided. The shell can destroy your tires!
And finally, speaking of animals, guess who sent the following email:THE TICKS ARE BAD AGAIN THIS YEAR. HEED THIS WARNING!
Please send this warning to everyone on your e- mail list.
If someone comes to your front door saying they are checking for ticks due to the warm
weather and asks you to take your clothes off and dance around with your arms up,
DO NOT DO IT!! THIS IS A SCAM!! They only want to see you naked.
I wish I'd gotten this yesterday... I feel so stupid.
Wooooohooooo.... Gotcha Marv! lolol
Take care all of mine. Go in safety always. Remember that good friends always know what button to push to get you laffing...
Many hugs, much love and please, lots of laffter every day... meems

Welcome home, dear hearts, welcome home
Grab a cuppa and make yourselves to home.
I've been in mourning and I am having a terrible time dealing with the losses I and others suffered with the collapse of Eons.
The military and veterans groups... The names of all those who gave their all for us... to keep us safe. VNV had more than 400 members named. Many had already passed. Many were not active participants... BUT they were thot of and remembered. They were not alone... not ever. For the survivors, help was just a click away. I will NEVER forgive if it turns out that the Eons collapse was caused by greed. And trust me, I have a very long memory where some things are concerned!
I don't think that anyone knows that I sent birthday wishes to all of mine whose passing I knew of...
Now, what I need to know is what do all of you want me to do. Shall I continue with the News? Do you want me to keep your names on the list? Should I go on my way and just try to forget? (I don't think I can)
I can be skyped at ( paula.rice74 ) or emailed at the regular address I've been using. ( emom101@prtcnet.org ) Yes, I will still respond to emails ... and hopefully will get back to my sense of humor. If you wish, foreward all the News to anyone with whom you might wish to share...
Also, I can/will add a list of names for the ones we are missing. Please, please let me know.
Go in safety...take care. Remember, some losses cannot be fixed.
Many hugs, much love and lots of laffter... meems

2300 HOURS WELCOME HOME, DEAR HEARTS, WELCOME HOME
Get your buns out here and make yourselves to home. Coffee's hot, nice clear nite to sit on the porch and rock away.
Can you tell I've been playing with the fonts and stuff on here? I've also been trying to upload my fave sign... Cost ya $5 to complain... Do You think I can get this darned thing to transfer/copy/paste. No way! Sheesh! Another reason to be grumpy and snarky! And I sure can SNARK... just ask the Marvin... lolol But I will by God, eventually find out how to copy and paste it.
Now, let me tell you that the 24th was a milestone for me...and I was celebrating with Bobbi and Sherri on skype several times. They both overlooked my snarkiness (could they tell the difference?) and we ended up giggling, planning snarks and generally misbehaving. Bobbi and I talked on skype the one time for 4 hours, 44 mins and 36 secs! We got hysterical remembering some of the skits that Tim Conway was in. Once he wore a lion's costume... lion tried to climb ladder... went down hill from there. Then, Tim would do the elephant trunk/roar... Well, I ended up crying and not able to breath from laffing so hard. Do you remember when Tim would play the old old Doctor? Took Harvey's temp... found that temp was ''wrinkled''? Oh dear... I can cascade on this subject...
I have decided to change Shadow's name! Big red dog is neither quiet nor does he move silently. (I wonder why I segue from Tim to big red) Anyway, I was sleeping lightly... you know, that period of time where you drift lazily between sleep and cozy warm? Well, that's where I was and I hear... grrrrrhoof. At the foot of my bed... Another GRRRhooof! I don't move.
Dog moves to side of bed where my feet are hanging out of the covers... Cold nose... Doggy kisses on the bottom of footsies... Grrrrhoof! He did the pushing with his paws... I still don't move or say anything.
Next thing I know I am being doggie tagged by all four!!!! I burrow deeper under the covers... Now I have a 75 lb pup laying on top of me! Sheesh! Well, I am sqealing and shrieking. I try to pull more covers over me... no dice! I have big red on top of me... Stormy has me pinned from the front side... Pyggs is rooting under the covers and washing my face. Big dog not moving... Lily is curled up in the small of my back trying to ignore all the ruckus.
All of a sudden it gets sort of quiet... I pull the covers off my head and come face to face with the big red moose foot! I cracked up! The expression on his face and the fact he had his ears pricked foreward was as much as I could stand! lololol Big red is now christened Moose Foot! He did get me up again and in his book that's all that counted. Anybody want a dog????????? lololol
Guess that's it for the moment... Take care... go in safety... and remember having 17 cig liters doesn't mean any of them will work... I think I am being profound again... lolol
Many hugs, much laffter and lots of love every day.... meems
2012 EMOM'S MOUNTAIN NEWS 4-27 posted 9 minutes ago, updated 6 minutes later 2009/6... Welcome home, dear hearts, welcome home!
Have I mentioned I hate puters, kids, cats, dogs, husbands, and horses... I'm sure if I ponder a bit I will come up with some more things for the list. Having all kinds of problems with emails the last several days. Today, I kept getting pop-up nastygrams. Sheesh!
Sleeping late again. I wish the weather would make up my mind. Was cold this morning but the sun shining on the side door made it hot enuf to blister your hands.
Oh dear... I found more kittens in the small dog cage on the back porch. I know I have four lttle ones in the living room...under the loveseat and the recliner at any given time. lolol Don't know how many on the back porch but more than one... lolol Mama out there is one protective kitty...I looked in the side slits of the cage and she growled at me. "don't mess with me/mine" was the message I got. Trust me, I don't argue with angry/protective moms.
I guess I should tell you about the storms yesterday ..tornado warnings in Owsley county and surrounds. I had to wear my "weather spotter" hat . I had some hail, heavy rain, lots of cloud to cloud litning, wall cloud to the southwest, partial funnel cloud formation to the west. Dave, at the Jackson office (Nat'l weather service), squalling at me to get to safety while I was relaying the info.
I had two levels of clouds traveling rather rapidly in cross directions. High clouds out of the sw... lower lever out of the north. Is that what you call wind sheer? I spent two hours below ground listening to country music and weather updates. My 'partial funnel' formation made it to the radio and tv stations... Island City does it again? or sumfin We're supposed to have a weekend repeat of the bad weather.
Sure you don't want to move near me here in the mountains? lolol Had heldoctor go over in the bad weather... Sheesh, now what?
I had the basement door open for a while... watching the hail bounce down the outside steps...Lilyputz, the only one who will come down the steps, came down with me... I'm sitting there on the sofa/bed and she comes over to me and sits up in the begging position. Yuck! What a mess! She had spider webs and fuzzies all over her face...In and on her nose, whiskers, eyebrows and even in her ears! Prompts me to think I need to go down in the basement more often... broom and/or dust mop in hand. lolol or not.
Another thing, after 10 years or more, I finally subscribed to the local weekly paper. It came in yesterday's/Thursday's mail. Pix of all the kids at the Senior Prom. (Oh, to be that young again for me would be a disaster! Understatement here!) Anyway, I saw the pic of my faves. Ciara, one of the JC's, and Braydon, one of Anna's, as a couple. Absolutely and awesomely striking!
What else. Oh, the Marv! Sheesh! He's been giving me a hard time. (What, who, the Marv? Hard time? Nah....... ) He has been following some of the riots sports and otherwise here in KY. He asks me "What have you (me) done now?" Riots? Me cause riots? At sports events? Just because I strip naked, dab Blueberry Body Butter all over, then run out to the parking lot at break times????? Sheesh! I thot everybody did that..(read "common" knowledge) Marv, Brat, Where you been all my life. Just a normal everyday occurrence for me. Never thot about it being newsworthy! Would these lovely green eyes....wink, blink, flutter.... roflmao NOW, you know! Gotcha! You just thot this would be a repeat of my email! Wrong... Gotcha again! lololol
And then, there is the four legged, red haired, lop eared, Shadow. Now we all know that I am on midnites, right? Well, Shadow does not agree with my schedule!
Imagine if you will, being snuggled under the covers on your side, toasty warm, soundly sleeping, without a care in the world at that moment. Then, you have a big footed moose of a dog walking on you. You don't move nor speak. Moose dog goes hmmmm!!!! That didn't work... let's try this! woofgrrrrrrrr! Hmmmm! Another woofgrrrrrrr! OK, let's try this! WOOFGRRR! with a sturdy push on MOM's butt with two front feet... MOM moved... One more time.... AND SHE'S UP! Big footed moose dog has done it again!
MOM is up for a few minutes. makes sure the water bowl is full... lets all the critters in and out and in... MOM goes back to bed...
Take care all of mine...go in safety always. Remember when you are owned by critters, there are more responsibilities than just hugging and petting! Oh yeah!
Many hugs, lots of love and days of lafter.... the abused and mistreated until she gets even meems
2012 EMOM'S MOUNTAIN NEWS 4-19 posted 1 minute ago I think this is still Thursday but I wouldn't swear to anything today...
WELCOME HOME, DEAR HEARTS, WELCOME HOME!
Y'all have no idea what's been going on here. lolol Some of it you may have trouble believing but it's all true... unless I say otherwise!
OK... So I am sitting here on Easter Sunday evening. Skyping with a friend. Cracking up... dogs have mostly settled for the evening. The only thing I've managed to get done this week-end, was a bit of laundry and cooking. (Fried biscuits, sausage patties with strawberry jelly)
Anyway, as I said, all was quiet... no phone calls in or out. Holiday/family type week-end, right? Wrong! For me, at least.
Again, I was back here in the apartment, goofing off. The dogs alerted ... not a serious alert but an alert, none the less! A couple of times, I thot I heard someone calling my name. Second time... I put my Skype buddy on hold, grabbed the .38 and headed for the kitchen.
The usual trip down the hall... took the left... hit the light switch as I asked "who's there?"
There stands Sheriff Kelly in my side door way...he's been bellowing for me at the front door and now the side door. As soon as he sees me, he starts chewing me out! (Now what?!?) I got a rough hug....
" Are you ok?... you scared the hell out of me...I was scared to death that you were hurt or something" "Your back door is open! Are you OK?"
Turns out that Anna had tried for two + days to call me. Unbeknownst to me, my phone line was down (one leg of it anyway) which meant no phone calls in or out. Anna was scared for me, called Kelly at home on Easter evening, he responded! Sheesh!
Can you say bewildered? Almost speechless... Me? lolol Anyhow, Kelly decides I'm ok. He and his rider leave after he talks to Anna on the phone. I'm advised that Anna is going to take a stick to me... (After she cuts a BIG stick)
OK, so I come back to the apartment after closing and locking the doors... I try to call Anna... No dial tone. Well ratz! Now what do I do? I should have checked phones before Kelly left but I didn't think of it. Ponder Ponder Ponder!
Since I know the puter is still working, I decide to send an email requesting help from Sherri. I knew she was still out there and she also knows that I am nuttier than a fruitcake sometimes. Anyhow, I asked her to call Anna to let her know that my phone was down and to ask if she would call the phone company for me on Monday. Sherri, brat, I thank you again for the help.
Monday morning, Robbie from the phone company comes out... The house is a disaster and naturally he had to go into every room that had a phone or outlet. I threatened mayhem if he told anybody about the dust bunnies and the unstuff. And yes, he had to climb under the puter desk. Did I mention dog hair? Damn!!!!!!!!!!!
I was back in business phone wise... but I found myself on a reading streak. Years ago I bought some mysteries written by Tony Hillerman. Stories about Navajo cops. Well, I tripped over more of his books and started rereading the old and reading some of the ones I hadn't read before. I am sort of fascinated by different belief systems. His books give some insight into the Navajo beliefs. Well, I think I read 8 or so and I still have more to go.
Then last nite (I'm on midnites again) I find myself in the studio starting a painting based, with permission, on a photo by Dragonpainter. I haven't touched a brush in almost a year. Took me an hour just to clean my glass palette so I had a place to mix the colors. mostly blues.
I'm not even going to talk about the stacks of rock hard oils surrounding the mixing space. I know better than to let oils sit/set like that, but I did it anyway. I think I'll need a steel chisel to clean off the surrounds. And, glass does break if you hit it the wrong way.
Guess that's it for the moment... Go in safety always, mine. Take care and remember you can always make a difference in someone's life.
Many hugs...much love... The innocent (this time) Meems

Welcome home, dear hearts, welcome home!
Oh dear, it's been a couple of interesting days again. If it ain't one thing, it's another.. lolol
Let's see here... Two days ago, I put my little yellow sign out front on the mail box. I can't remember if I told y'all that or not. Anyway, I double checked the door/gate of the mail box and, no, there was no problem nor possibility of interfering with the deliveries. I was as happy as a clam.
Twenty four hours later, I go out to check for mail. None... However, the gate was down, the box was empty and the wire to the sign had been 're-arranged'. Theft attempt? Then last nite...Saturday... the dogs started throwing a hissy fit.
I gallop down the hall way... hang a left, grab the .22. Hit the side door... out to the porch and fire one round into the forsythia growing to the west of the house. Turned around, came back in the house and then went to bed. And guess what... The sign is still out there. I just checked.
We have heavy clouds building up from the west and north. Have to tell you that when I went out to the mail box, it was drizzle/rain. No raincoat or nuffin... lolol I had on paint clothes. Did you know you can't really ruin paint clothes? Anyway, I stroll casually back down the drive... minding my own business.
A lightning bolt flashes right over me! No thunder, no lightning prior to this... No thunder from this bolt either. Thank God, it was cloud to cloud... static build up? Anyway, I was very happy that it wasn't ground to cloud!
Then, back to Friday nite. We had no warning of the tornado to the west of us. Was a bad day again but not nearly as bad as earlier this month. Had torrential rains and hail. Sometime overnite, I was awakened by a short gust of noisy wind... then I heard the 'train' go overhead again. I rolled over and went back to sleep. Am I starting to sound like a weather person? Sheesh! Sorry bout that!
What else? Oh, Anna... Oh dear... lolol
She's been swamped with bakker work.. Sterilizing seed trays, filling them with dirt and then planting the bakker seeds. I just said I figured she was busy getting ready for Easter tomorrow (meaning today) Well, she started giggling hysterically. She finally managed to sqeal out..."What month is this"? or view link
I had to stop and think for a minute... finally I came out with 'March?' Off she went again! lolol She comes back with Easter is next month! Well, I got hysterical too. Two old hens just a cackling for all we were worth! My stomach hurt!
Then she decided than since she is not near a phone during the day, she would have me come down and ride along while she mowed the grass. A side car? She would put me on the inside of the cut and run me thru the bushes! Off we went again! I just told her that I really appreciated the consideration for my safety!
And then today, I got an email from the Marv. I fell off the chair! Email consisted of a long series of pix one of which showed a lawnmower with sidecar. Side car was a brightly colored mini VW van. lolol I want one of those. Many moons ago, I drove a VW van. Hauled all kinds of stuff in that 4 wheeled critter... including a piglet. Piglet was running loose in the back. Truth, even tho I figured nobody would believe it if I told them back then.
Another thing with Anna... we seem to have this one-ups-man-ship thing going right now. She calls... she has chased a garden snake back into the woods. I pulled a tick off me... she'd already done that two or three days before the snake business. I told her about the wasp. Daggone it... she did it again.
She had been bitten/attacked by a deer tick. It had burrowed into her hide! Had to go to MD to have the leftovers removed. Woman will do anything to get ahead of me!
If any of you should have this happen to you, the burrowing type small round red tick - no spots on it, get yourself to the doctor for blood test... This is the kind of tick which carries Lyme's disease or Rocky Mountain Spotted fever.
Last year, Anna tested postive for Lyme's... Scared all of us to death.
I guess that' it for today. Take care all of mine. Go in safety always. Remember lightning can strike with no warnings!
Many hugs... much love and lots of lafter daily... meems
2012 EMOM'S MOUNTAIN NEWS posted 42 minutes ago 2012-03-22 THURSDAY
WELCOME HOME, DEAR HEARTS, WELCOME HOME!
Get in here where it's cool. I can't believe this weather. Yesterday, I rolled out at 0930. Raised the blind on the east window and there, in the direct sun, thermo said 104 deg! Yup, I said 104! Shaded thermo said 94.
I've been using the apartment window a/c for about a week now but yesterday... I turned on the house unit. Heat pump just might get confused if temps go back to normal.
Something I've discovered:... I can no longer walk and chew gum at the same time. Could I ever? Oh yeah!... What I mean is that I can now type like a pro but cannot write my own name legibly. I also find that my mouth doesn't want to allow the words to fall out in a normal manner... lots of ummms... ers...aaahs... well, I'm sure you get the idea. Just get me to a keyboard and turn me loose... all's ok! lol (bite your tongue, Marv!)
Now, I have all these little notes to myself. One of the notes says 'glo lites'. Last year, I ordered and received a pair of solar powered glo lites or else I got them at the Dollar Store. I can't remember which.
Anyway, I put them out front near the small pond as accents. Did not read the instructions. Would I do sumfin intelligent as reading the directions? I don't think so. lolol So I put them out and gave them no further thot except they didn't work.
Since GC came out and installed the pump, I thot I'd better check to see if they had changeable batteries. I took the lamps apart. And what to my wondering eyes should appear... an ON/OFF switch! OMG! I now have two lovely nite lites reflecting off the pond.
Another note... one word... took me forever to translate 'warp' to 'wasp'! lolol Again, yesterday morning, I had the back door open so the critters could run in and out at their pleasure. (Am I nice, or what?) More came in than I had planned... maybe a half dozen wasps came in to check out the territory. Mostly in the kitchen. No problem, I just have to be more careful about placing my hands, etc., before touching things.
Well, the ticks are out in force too... yanked one off my right shoulder blade. (trust me it was a struggle but I succeeded in the removal. Now, I itch!) Anyway, I'm sitting here last nite and felt something crawling around my waist. I reached under my t-shirt but didn't find anything. I looked also... nada!
A minute or so later I felt the crawling sensation again...feels almost like a dog walking on you... I look down the neck of my t-shirt. Still nada! One more time.. I look down and finally spot the culprit. A wasp hanging on my t-shirt. The lil critter was crawling up the shirt and I was feeling its wings brushing against me.
Not to panic... Wasp crawled out... I went back to playing with the puter after I closed the kitchen door. And here you kids thot I might get bored up here on the mountain. lolol Hey, Mom Nature and my Lady of the Mountain make sure I am always entertained.. lolol one way or another...and then, there's the always the Storm Gods. Don't want to forget them.
Another thing... I've started watching some of the old Perry Mason series. Story lines are still good but the best part to me is trying to find the yet unknown future stars who might have a bit part on the show. Boredom is a killer! lolol
Guess that's it for now... Take care all of mine. Go in safety always. Remember life is a joy. Sometimes we just have to work to find it.
