Snow Fall 2010 The wind blows and howls across the land, Just another day that is so bland. Rain falls from the darkened sky, The air turns cold and the snow begins to fly. White power drifts and fall, Covering the ground and all. The day seems special to all around, Christmas is here for all to abound. The presents have been opened and shared, Yet the falling snow and no one cared. The ground turns white all about, The children give out a shout.. A special time for to be, A special snow for all to see. The first time in over a hundred years, That this has caused such cheers. White Christmas has been given to those whose wish, As they set and enjoyed their dish. Life comes and life goes, This we all know. The white frost we see, Is here now for all to see. A wish I have for all time, Is to be here and make it mine. Christmas cheer for all to share, I sit here in my chair, Watching my childhood dream Come true as we scream. Delightful cheers we have for all, As we continue to watch the snow fall. Bobby R. Gardner
As I walk down the sidewalk, many people I pass, The way they look, they may as well be the grass. Stern faced they appear, lost in thought, Studying the deep battles they have fought. Eyes glassed over, no movement as they walk, Speak to them but they refuse to talk. In their own world they are lost, They want to figure out that problem at any cost. They are young but still they seem cold, Without a life they will soon grow old. If you see me walking down the street, If you see me walking my beat, If you see me, give me a smile, It will take your life another mile. If you see me, speak to me, After all, I’m not a tree. Smile at me, speak to me, I’ll speak to you, It’ll make you a better day, you won’t be blue. Shake my hand or hug my neck, I’m human too, so what the heck. I have a job to do, that is true, I have a job to do, for me and for you. When you see me there’s no need to run, When you see me, greet me, have fun. Your life will be better, I promise you that, Your life will always be better, when you tip your hat. By: Bobby Gardner October 23, 1999
There is a roof and walls on every side, There are doors and windows in this place, A room here, a room there, where you can hide, And take yourself away from the frantic pace. Brick and mortar, wood and nails, glass and glue, Plaster and paint and a carpet or two. A house is where you go to live, But once you're there it becomes a home, With lots of caring and love to give, A place to rest where you don't have to roam, A house is a house that's for sure, But a home is where love is pure. Clocks on the wall to keep the time, Pictures of family and friends set all around, Chairs to set and rest in our prime, Precious loving memories around us abound, This house is comfortable, soft, just like foam, This house is the place we call home. A wish is a like a dream come true, Sometimes it's red, sometimes it's blue. A dream is just images in the mind, As we rest, sleep and unwind. A wish can be the image in the eye, As that puffy cloud up in the sky. To make the wish you wish come true, There is something you must do. First, take the wish into your heart, From that wish you must never part, Believe in what your heart has to say, Your wish could be yours' this very day. Know where it is you must go, Go toward it steady and slow. Always know that it is there, Even on days you have no care. A wish, a wish I have for you, A wish I hope will come true. Your lips pass words that sound so sweet, To me, would you give a treat ? Place your lips softly against mine, A kiss from you would be so fine. To feel your body pressed against me, To have a time for us to be. Alone in this universe is where we are, High in the heavens, next to that star. You and I alone, the chance not to miss, Your lips so sweet, I wish to kiss. By: Bobby R. Gardner August 17, 1996
Dark, thunderous clouds fill the sky, The bright sun is hidden by and by. The thunder rolls across the plains, The clouds burst forth with their rains. With the seeds laying beneath the earth, The rains soon help to give birth. The ground burst open to reveal the tree, A life that could represent you or me. With the soft, green grass for a pillow, Up sprouts the life of a new willow. With time the young willow will grow, A home for birds, maybe even a crow. Life can be such a pleasing thing, With life, a new life can bring. We look at this willow tree, And wonder what it could really be. I see this tree as I do my mother, She gave life to me and my brother. As I grew up I could seldom see, What my mother really was to me. When I was sick, she was always there, To me she always gave loving care. There were times I didn't like her much, When she wouldn't let me do things and such. There were times that I loved her so, But eventually, thru time, she let me go. Now I see a woman, strong and bold, The life giver to me, or so I'm told. Advice she gives me, free and clear, To me she'll always be Mama dear. My words do not do her justice at all, But I know that if I should fall, She would always be there for me, Just as the leaves on that willow tree. The time will come, I know it will, When she'll lay down and be very still. Then I will go and plant in the ground, A willow tree with rocks all around. My brothers and I will watch it grow, And in it we will see Mama's love glow. A life to life is what I say, My mother's love is with me to stay. By: Bobby R. Gardner December 25, 1996
The tree stands tall near the window sill, No longer deep in the earth, it's lovely still. Colored lights surround the tree on every limb, Garland wraps the tree in Christmas trim. Plastic icicles glitter as they hang down, A tree so pretty, it makes you smile like a clown. A bright beautiful star adorns the top. To look upon this tree, your heart is ready to stop. Gifts for one another lay under the branches, Do I get what I want? What are the chances? The tree will be the center of all attention, The gifts you got for others, you dare not mention. A time of joy will be had by all, Close friends you have, soon will call. The tree has given it's life for this delight, A time of sharing, giving, all that is right. It's been said both far and near, Merry Christmas to all, and Happy New Year! By: Bobby R. Gardner December 25, 1996
The sun shines down upon a woman of caring, Her life is devoted to loving and sharing. She always thinks first for those of her own, She doesn't have time to spend on the phone. Meals are always prepared with her loving touch, And in return she never asks for much. She cleans the house with a smile and a song, When she gets started it doesn't take long. She works a job, just like her man, She spends as much time with him as she can. There are times she works late into the night, But to stay ahead and help is her plight. Never do you hear words of despair Never is there anger in the air. To love and please her husband is her goal, She's like a diamond pressed from the coal. Her eyes always sparkle, her lips always smile, She's always willing to go that extra mile. She'll be with me for the rest of my life, She'll always be there as my loving wife. By : Bobby R. The clouds cross the sky quickly yet slow, The leaves on the trees rustle as the winds blow. A bird, wings outstretched, dives from the sky, A morsel of food somewhere, taken on the fly. The babbling brook cuts it's way through the rock, The years pass slowly with natures clock. We look at yesterday and call it our past, We look at tomorrow and hope it will last. We build homes of wood, mortar and stones, Yet we waste our time as the sun bleaches our bones. We spend time to make our dwellings, It's not our land that we are selling. The spirit of the People cry out to be heard, The spirit of all mankind cries without a word. What God has given to each of us freely, We have hoarded and held on to greedily. The forest, which once was free to roam, Is now part of someone else's home. The water, which once quenched our thirst, Is polluted, no longer thought of first. The wolf, who once ruled this domain, The bear, who once roamed this plain, The eagle, who once filled our skies, Are nothing more now than products of our lies. Everything man is given, he will corrupt and destroy Life to him is nothing more than a big old toy. People of earth, people of the land, people of native man, Hear the spirits of our past if you can. Retreat from your lodges placed in concrete jungles, Retreat from modern life with all it's struggles Embrace the earth and all that it has to offer, Replace the riches in Mother Earth's coffer, Find the totem that with you should be, Then live your life, alive and free. The rabbit looked up and said "Hiddy Ho!," As he looked about for a place to go. The thorns and bushes were all about, As he jumped up with another shout. The tortoise, who was close at hand, Sat back looking for a marching band. He looked this way and that to no avail, As the rabbit let out with another wail. "What's the problem?" The tortoise did ask, "Looking for a place to go? For another task?" The rabbit said, "I'm bored, I want something to do." "How about a race between me and you?" The tortoise looked about and scratched his head, "I'd rather curl up and go back to bed." "Come on", said the rabbit, "It'll be fun." "I'll even let you use the starting gun." The tortoise thought for a minute or two, The rabbit did look sad and blue. "Mr. Rabbit, you play so many tricks I'm not sure." "With me you've never been honest and pure." "I promise Mr. Tortoise , I'll not trick you," " Please race me Mr. Tortoise, please do." The tortoise looked at the rabbit and stroked his chin , " Let me find a way that I can surely win." With his thought complete the tortoise did say , " Meet me here , but not this day, Day after tomorrow will be fine , Early in the morning's bright sunshine." With that the tortoise did turn, A plan of revenge in his mind did burn. The rabbit did jump about to and fro , As down the path the tortoise did go. A meeting with family was now the plan, As down the path the tortoise slowly ran. The plan would only take a moment to convey, But to get ready would take more than a day. The rabbit was pleased about the race, He sat out to tell his friends at a frantic pace. Beating the tortoise would be an easy thing to do , Then to sit down and enjoy a carrot stew. He'd make the tortoise work , hand and foot, So the fires' smoke would blacken his face with soot. The tortoise on the other hand, had plans of his own, For the rabbit has an ego which had grown. Two separate paths shall be taken in this race, The finish line shall be the same in any case. The winner shall be victorious and rule over the other , As is sometimes the case with one's own brother. The race shall take all of a day , There'll be no time to stop and play. Many twist and turns shall lay ahead, Before the race is over and they are fed. Knowing about all the twists and turns, Ideas in the mind of the tortoise churns. If his brothers , who look so much like him, And if they were to hide behind a limb, And if they jumped out just ahead of the rabbit, Then victory would be near for him to grab it. The tortoise is slow, as we all know, So long before the race they did go. Each brother taking his place long before dawn, And laying down to rest upon the lawn. By the time the starters gun would fire, All the tortoises would be headed for their desire. With all plans made the race was at hand, The tortoise, the rabbit, and now the animal band. The sun shines bright on this early morn, Everyone was there, even the newly born. Two paths, separate but yet the same, Went out and about but back they came. A great feast for all would be had that day, But once the race started, here they would stay. With visions of the feast dancing in the mind, The starting line the racers did find. Loudly and quickly spoke the starting gun, And the rabbit was off , a double quick run. By the time the tortoise reached the trees, All there was of the rabbit was shaking leaves. The rabbit did run at a very fast pace, The tortoise, a short cut to the end of the race. No one could see what the tortoise had done, Getting revenge on the rabbit was such fun. At the first clearing the rabbit did see, "The tortoise out front, well ahead of me !" "How can this be ? It can't be true," Thought the rabbit, "He's ahead of you !" With that , the rabbit , faster did run, Long and hard under the morning sun. The rabbit knew the tortoise was strong, But how could he have been so wrong ? A courageous tortoise , yes , but with speed ? He had over estimated the tortoise indeed. As the rabbit entered the open space, The tortoise was well ahead in the race. Faster and faster the rabbit would run, This was no longer anymore fun. As the race went on the rabbit grew tired, To finish this race was now what he desired. The tortoise had made his plans so well, Victory would be his for all to tell. No one knew the plans he had made, So quietly he sat in the shade. His turn would come before long, Then a dash to the finish line and victory's song. The boastful rabbit with all his tricks, Will lose the race despite his mighty kicks. The tortoise waited to just the right time, He started to run as the rabbit started his last climb. The finish line was just a few feet ahead, When the rabbit made the clearing, almost dead. The rabbit seeing the tortoise was about to win, Took a deep breath, his head did spin. The rabbit bounded forward, tired and spent, Toward the finish line he went. The tortoise beat the rabbit that day, Well, at least, the old folks say. The tortoise kept his plans well hid, For no one ever knew what he did. The animals fell silent around the victory blaze, For all joined in back in those days. The tortoise and the rabbit spoke not a word, Nothing of this race was ever heard, Just the uttering of some old man, Who helped the tortoise with his plan. By: Bobby R. Gardner 3 Jun 97
