My favorite song is California Stars by Billy Bragg & Wilco, written by Woody Guthrie. My daughter said she thought of me when she first heard it since I'd grown up in California and knew my goal was to go back someday. I love Celtic, Gospel, Opera and 60's Rock 'N Roll. I especially love Vestal Goodman's singing.

I prefer big, thick books that tell a good story. Not a mystery fan.
I enjoy the convenience of my Kindle, but I still prefer the feel of a real book in my hands.

I'm a computer junkie and guru for family and friends. I've loved reading since I learned to read in the first grade. My Dad got me started in genealogy. I love it and have been doing it for myself and others for over 21 years. I'm not Catholic but I love the beauty and meaning of rosaries. I learned about komboloi about 25 years ago and set out to find the perfect one for me. I got my first one in 2013. I developed a love of poetry when I was in grade school. My favorite poet is Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and my favorite poem is Evangeline. I named my daughter after that poem.

I have over 21 years of genealogical experience and would be happy to help anyone who would like to know more about their family background. I do look ups for free because I love doing research. My work is thorough and I cross check everything.

Texas-born, but grew up in the beautiful San Joaquin Valley in California. I met my husband in 1967 at Texas Instruments. We were married in 1970, had a son in 1986, and a daughter in 1991. I retired in 1997 after 15 years in advertising at a major Texas newspaper. I've lived in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Texas, and California. I've visited Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, New Mexico, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nevada, Colorado, and Mexico. The two states I would love to visit are North Carolina and Tennessee, where my ancestral roots are. Family has become more important as I've aged. I respect honesty and loyalty and require it in those I associate with. True friends are rare and I value highly the few who are.

Genealogy is my favorite pastime. I also love reading and watching YouTube videos on cooking, music, and Bible reviews. I'm fond of hummingbirds and mermaids. I used to enjoy cooking but I can't stand for as long as I used to.

SPRING WEATHER! Storms give me such extreme anxiety and panic attacks that I have to be tranquilized. I don't tolerate liars, I hate for people to waste their own and other peoples' time. I have a fear of traveling. I am terrified of varmints.

It was widely believed that she was only 16 years old when she began her recording and radio programs and

Annette Hanshaw (Manhattan, October 18, 1901 – Manhattan, March 13,
1985) was born Catherine Annette Hanshaw. A number of her family members
were in vaudeville and she was brought up to love the entertainment
business although she studied art and design and wanted to be an artist
and portrait painter. She was an exceptionally beautiful girl and had a
lovely singing voice that came across wonderfully clearly over the radio
and on records at the local stations she would sing for. A demo record
she made was heard by Pathe Records executive Herman “Wally” Rose and
after taking one look at her with her fantastic dimpled cheeks and
stunning figure he was smitten, realizing that he had a nationally
marketable potential superstar. Quickly, she began a recording career
and radio performances and touring shows that brought her almost
overnight to the top of her profession. At one point she was more
popular than other better known singers of the mid 1920s including Ruth
Etting.

She tried consciously to limit her personal appearances in vaudeville and shows because of her tremendous

stage fright. She lived in constant fear that her voice would give out
or she would sing a bad note and disgrace herself but she was earning so
much money she couldn’t afford to stop doing it. She was urged to sing
in different voices and under at least fifteen different names depending
on the kind of song she was singing or the record label she was singing
for. She had huge numbers of singing aliases therefore and had hit
songs under a wide variety of names on many different labels. Sometimes
she imitated Helen Kane (inspiration for the Betty Boop cartoon
character) and sang in a baby voice. Sometimes she sang sentimental
ballads. Often she became known for jazz age up-tempo tunes which she
sang with a calm voice, occasional jazzy interpolations and a good sense
of how to fit in well with a complex orchestral arrangement.

In
addition, Annette’s performances were enhanced by her great beauty
which was used to sell sheet music by putting her face and form fully on
the
cover. Pictures of her graced sheet music shops like the one owned by
her aunt and uncle and sold her records — it was used to sell sheet music by putting her face and form fully on the

years of her coming on the scene with her first recordings for Pathe,
she had sold 30 million records and started appearing regularly as a
guest on radio programs from 1929. She also starred on a radio show
which featured Annette Hanshaw: The Personality Girl on the Maxwell House Show Boat from 1932 to 1934.

Catherine
Annette Hanshaw was an American Jazz Age singer. She was one of the
most popular radio stars of the late 1920s and early 1930s, with many of
her most notable performances taking place on NBC's Maxwell House Show
Boat. Over four million of her records had been sold by 1934, following
the peak of her popularity.
In her ten-year recording career, she recorded about 250 sides. In a
1934 poll conducted by Radio Stars magazine, she received the title of
best female popular singer. Second place went to Ethel Shutta, third
place went to Ruth Etting, and fourth place went to Kate Smith.
