A SIMPLE PLEA
"Recycle, reuse, conserve," Mother Earth pleads, her words so very powerful though her voice so weary and sad. "Don't litter," she begs, "don't toss it about." But sadly, we know, her cries go unheeded, inconsiderate trash so rudely tossed upon the highways and byways entrusted to our care. She weeps as we continue to ignore her pleas and her wishes and destroy even more her gardens, her waterways, her oceans, her trees, neglected, uprooted, burned down and destroyed.
Respect and responsibility is really all it takes to make this earth a better place, one that we all can enjoy. For when all is said and done, I really am just passing through this space, this earth, this life, I know.
So for the time that I have left, I promise to do what I need to do, to take care of, to treasure what's not mine to waste, what's not mine to deface.

FINALLY MAKING SENSE Sometimes so cloudy, the haze too thick; I'm completely lost, unable to get my bearings or begin to find my way.
But step by step, and and very slowly, I make my way from one end to the other, stopping to consider each and every part, from all angles, and all views, as I move from one to the next,

wondering what it is; what can it be? And when I get to the end of the path I've trekked and turn around to take another look, I begin to see the pattern and what it is, the clues I had seen along the way finally adding up and making more sense to me.

IN PERSPECTIVE
It's all about perspective, I have to remind myself, how I view what goes on in my day, the good and the bad, the happy and the sad. It all has to do with my point of view.
And when I feel myself beginning to slide into disappointment and sadness, into tears and fear, I try to remember, before it's too late, to take another look, to take a break, to turn away from the situation, to go away for a while and come back with a brand new set of eyes, with a new perspective that's a bit more detached, not quite so close, further away from my view.
And when the view is too far away and I just don't get it, no matter what I do or how hard I try, it must be time for me to change the view and get up a bit closer; that's what I have to do.
And I try to remember to remind myself all the time that every day's an adventure that depends on my point of view.

I am posting this week's Legacy Writers "Friday Byways" here as well as in the Legacy Writers II Group Forum later on this afternoon for several reasons. One of them is that I have had such a difficult time trying to access the groups especially over the past week. I'm hoping that the link posted here as it is will work faster and provide easier access than I am experiencing with the links under "GROUPS".

So this is the challenge for this week and and it is now posted in the "Byways" Group Forum. Thanks so much for stopping by when you get a chance. I always look forward to the pieces you share with all of us in the Forum.

FRIDAY BYWAYS WITH BARBARA K #18
It's All a Matter of Perspective -- 3-31-11
Welcome to "Byways" this week and thanks so much for your eloquent participation during the past 17 weeks. Cheryl Darr is certainly in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
How I see things depends upon my perspective, my point of view.
The half-full/half-empty theory most definitely applies to the way we view everything.
We can be positive or negative.
We can be happy or sad. It all depends on how we see things.
Sometimes I'm so far away that I can't possibly see the details. In which case I try to move closer. Sometimes I'm so close that I can't see the whole picture. In which case I must step back and take another look. I always find myself searching for a balanced view as I travel along the "Byways" of my week.
Achieving that balance is not always easy as so many things tend to get in the way.
Emotions
Physical obstacles
So many things.
But regardless of the view, there is an element of beauty in whatever perspective we are seeing at the time.
"Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond the imperfections."
"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth."~Marcus Aurelius~
"You must look within for value, but must look beyond for perspective." ~ Denis Waitley~
"Humor is perhaps a sense of intellectual perspective: an awareness that some things are really important, others not; and that the two kinds are most oddly jumbled in everyday affairs."~Christopher Morley~
"Wisdom is your perspective on life, your sense of balance, your understanding of how the various parts and principles apply and relate to each other. It embraces judgment, discernment, comprehension. It is a gestalt or oneness, and integrated wholeness." ~Stephen R. Covey~
I would invite you to come back and share your thoughts on perspective from whatever perspective you choose and in whatever format you prefer -- poetry, prose, image, video. Whatever you share encourages and inspires each one of us. And I want to thank you who stop by each week and share with us. Without your interest and participation and encouragement, I wouldn't be motivated at all to come back each week. And I always do look forward to and treasure the time spent at "Byways" each week with you . And you are always welcome to post on any of the previous weeks' themes and to use any of the images you find here or bring some of your own to share with us. ~Barb K~ P.S. And just a reminder that you don't have to join or be a member or post anything to stop by and read and/or comment on the wonderful posts in the forums. Thanks for supporting each one of the Legacy Writers II Groups. ~bk~

I think we all have madness in us, it's just that I've realized mine and found a way to let it out. ~John Glover~
THE MADNESS OF MY DAYS
From the moment I awaken and my feet hit the floor a certain amount of madness colors my days and my views. No longer bound to what I was before, I've broken free from what was me with a smile and a prayer and not afraid to shout out loud to anyone who will listen to me, "I am here and I am free!" No ties binding, no strings attached. Just here. Just there. And free to be who I always wanted to be." I see rainbows where there was rain before; I hear music in the wind, in the waves, in the trees. If that is madness, then mad I'll be in a world gone awry. And among the insanity that I see all around, I'm found an oasis of sanity in the madness I embrace as I make it through each day. And that's the way I like it to be.

 JUST AN ORDINARY DAY
It seemed like just another afternoon, a rather ordinary way to spend a day, just having a little fun, as my friends and I were headed to the Saturday matinee.
The lights grew dim, you could hear a pin drop, the excitement grew and suddenly it was me I saw upon the screen, swirling and twirling, sailing through the air, ice dancing, skiing, snowboarding, people clapping everywhere. And there I was, a celebrity, tap dancing with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, right up there upon the stage, a cast of hundreds behind us and there for all to see.
It was short-lived, however, a crazy twist of fate, as my moment in the spotlight, my fame came to a sorry end as that tap- tap- tapping sound quite promptly woke me up.

THE SILENCE WITHIN A cocoon of silence envelopes my heart in the stillness of this spring afternoon as I search for peace amid the din and chaos of the freeways, of the city, of life. And within the silence of the moment I can hear the songs that Nature sings as the geese remind me to look ahead and to look up; as the honeybees and the hummingbirds
remind me that there is a time to keep busy and focus on what I am doing. And within these moments I find a welcome oasis of eloquent silence and peace. The idea of "Pick-Apart Poetry" is to select 25 words from the featured "Pick Apart" piece and create a new piece.
Seaturtle and two of his poems are featured today and this is what I did with the 25 words I selected.

WITHIN
With a thought, a wish, within a moment, wise words could fill suffering hearts with peace, serenity, love, and promise of tomorrow's light from the sorrow of broken dreams.

I selected the 25 words for this piece from Seaturtle's poem (one of two featured):
I wish...
I wish I was as wise as my words might make me seem I wish the love inside our hearts could fill the cracks Within our broken dreams I wish the world's turning would always bring a brighter day I wish a quiet understanding will always light our way
I wish that I could turn back Time (or maybe spin it on its ear) To bring back those I've loved (and lost) and feel their hearts so near I wish that every moment's thought was filled with love and peace I wish my mind and soul could find serenity
Our humanity has its price In suffering & sorrow Simple lessons that we learn (or teach) Become our promise to Tomorrow
I wish that all my wishes would suddenly come true So that we can find a moment To begin our love anew...

WITH EVENING'S GLOW
Fireflies dancing in front of my eyes, each one a dream illuminating my night. Precious winks of silver as they flicker and glow, I treasure each one and never want them to go.
But as the moon takes leave of this velvet night, and the sun returns at dawn to the blue sky of day, I bid farewell to these tiny lanterns of night and eagerly look forward to their return with evening's glow when they will warm my heart again and light my way once more.
