I CAN STAY HOME TODAY! YESSSS! I hope, think and pray. I have discovered the hard way that I am not a party animal! Altho I just might reconsider!
I have a small dog who smells like a rather oversized, overfed skunk wanting to climb in my lap. Now, I do like the smell of skunk but from a distance and preferably down wind of me. However, at the moment, the aroma is up close and personal and all over the newly repaired A/C.
Two nites ago, an odor woke me but it didn’t smell like anything but burned coffee. I rolled my sorry buns out and staggered to the kitchen… The odor was almost like a physical presence and strongest by the back door… and it weren’t scorched coffee.
Oh man! Somebody got into it with a skunk… That somebody (who shall remain nameless, but his initials are Maxfield Parrish) is sleeping right next to me at the moment. Sheesh! Ah yes, the call/smell of the wild!
This has not been my week for animals … or maybe I should say that the other way around.
Remember me telling you about Ophie and the pillow? Well, how bout I woke the other morning and found the bed and the floor covered with feathers… big holes in the pillow… pillow didn’t survive, that’s a definite… I THINK I will but that’s a definite maybe! Lolol
Let’s see… Viva went thru her surgery with flying colors… Jessie and I were killed. Lolol This getting up before breakfast is no fun… DO like my sleep! Lolol Anyway, while we were killing time, we stopped at a junk store.
Proprietor was outside the shop starting a fire under a big wash tub. Or trying to start one.
She was starting to can/cold pack quart jars of green beans… a four hour job. The lid to the kettle was a square of plywood…Ya do with what ya got.

Made my trip to Kim’s office… No problem driving to town. Good Grief! Lots of people in the waiting room already at 1315 hrs… I played with a couple of kids… and didn’t get out of there until 1615 hours.
Stopped at the Action Team office…lolol Played with a bunny rabbit, domestic type. Cute little feller… Somebody brought him in and dropped him off as a gift for somebody else…. It’s a small town and this is the way things are done here. We have our own relay and delivery system. I love it…
Well, I left the AT and headed home… promptly forgetting to pick up a ‘just in case’ refill at the drugstore. Sheesh! Still no volunteers to act as my keeper? Crackin’ up…
Oh, I did find out that I don’t have any tick borne diseases… I guess that’s good.
I followed Anna’s advice about the flea collars…Asked Joey, the Vet, about some. He gave me that look. Especially after I told him the collars absolutely had to be color co-ordinated to match my outfits. Would you believe he threw me out of his office?
I gots ta get busy… gonna take a nap don’tcha know.
Take care all of mine. Go in safety always. Remember to stuff a flea collar in your pocket before you go into the wilds.
Many hugs and much love… meems
EMOM'S MOUNTAIN NEWS posted 1 minute ago 2009/7/7 1419 hrs…
Afternoon everybody.. I’m finally up/awake for the day…
Woke early this morning… to the side door… dogs in/out/in/out..Plopped my buns on little porch to have my coffee and cig! Deliciously cool out there… a whole 57 degrees! A cold snap in the middle of July! Woweeee! Was cloudy up there but I did see and wave at three of my fly guys…lolol I hate this hot weather… I miss seeing my guys up there.
Oh, and I did sit on the shady side of the house yesterday afternoon late…Saw a few of mine up there and got flashed. It was another one of those days with no wind and no moisture at there altitude…No wind to carry the sound and no moisture, no contrails. Eyes ain’t what they used to be and them BBSB’s are past me before the sound comes rolling thru the holler.
lolol Really, somebody needs to work on them view finder thingies or whatever you call them heat seeking cams/gizmos they have…Where am I going with this, you ask?
Well, I’m thinking them gizmo/thingies are making me look like a hot Marilyn Monroe with a new hair color. Can you say wishful thinking here? Lololol Looking like MM takes work and I am too totally lazy to go that route anymore…lolol I ain’t advertising and I definitely like comfort.
Well, look! I take my monthly bath… wash my hair occasionally and use lots of body butter… Now just doesn’t that sound sexy… gots the giggles now…Gotcha guys! lol
Oh, Doctor’s visit and the trip to town yesterday… lolol
Jessie comes to get me… I jump in the truck… off we go… more trees down and the slips/cracks on the high side of the roads ain’t a getting any better. The low side of the roads have wash-out spots where they are the most dangerous and will cause the most trouble if you are traveling too close to the edge of the road. Ah yes, each trip is a new adventure too.
Well, we make it into town in one piece… park in front of the doctor’s office.. then go in! Sheesh… waiting room is crammed with people… I go to the window to sign in. Poor gal working the desk looks frazzled. Uh oh!
Well, it seems that Peggy called and didn’t come in. Kim was carrying the whole load and there were nine patients ahead of me not counting the ones already in the examining room…Rescheduled my appointment for this Thurs. I am doing a lot better…Fever is gone finally but still itching slightly…The meds knock me for a loop..been drunks for almost a week now… Tell me I won’t have a hangover when I finish this round of meds… that’s all I need…lolol
I discovered that all the pix and stuff that I posted for the Fourth didn’t come thru right. I cut and pasted and entered the was I was supposed to… I double checked after I posted… and all pix were there… Yesterday, they were gone… What DID I do wrong?
I need to ask the Boss… That man has such a mind… (I guess) Couldn’t resist Boss… lolol
You can find bunches of simplified ‘how to’s’ done by the Boss in the Elite Joiners group. Anyway, the Boss has a section explaining how to copy and paste from YouTube. I read it and retained it long enuf to do the Muppets version of the Stars and Stripes Forever. Posted it everywhere! Lolol It might have been a day late but I DID IT! Yeahhhhhhhh!
Need I mention that the Muppets were my all time, top of the list, favorite TV show? I’ve tried to mold myself into the image of a human Miss Piggy… With my own variations added of course. Lolol
Question here… Is Maxine the grown older Miss Piggy after a lot of plastic surgery? Just wondering…
Tomorrow, beside being a new day, is also the day (rescheduled) to have Viva spayed. This means I must roll out at/about 0600 and, for me, that is WAAAAAAAYYYY before breakfast…
The Marv took a relaxing vacation last week (?) had delicious sounding meals, saw the sights and had what sounds to be a good time. Here I am suffering from the itchies and the heat, and he’s grumping because I didn’t get the news posted? Sheesh… typical rotten child that he is, (and mildly deranged) I get the feeling he is spoiled! Lolol
Well, I gots to get busy…Paint and patch the old barn for tomorrow’s trip to the vet…Pack a lunch Paula, it’s gonna be a long day!
Take care all of mind… go in safety always.. Remember to find someone worthy to admire and follow their lead. Lolol Don’t know if this works or not… Sounds good to me anyway!
Many hugs and much love… The still woozy meems

Did it ever occur to everyone how wonderful people can be? It don’t take much…Just determination and a big heart…
Have the Weather channel on as background noise and they just ran a segment on rescuing flood stranded and starving hogs. A big awwwwwww! Lolol I’ve already forgotten the numbers of rescued.
Anyway, all those critters now have a good home…. Hundreds of acres to run and explore… A nice warm and clean barn…plenty of feed… This is called ‘hog heaven’.
Another thing… The storm gods are amassing here in the mountains… It’s only 1500 hrs and it looks like 2000 hours out there… Humidity is swimable.. Sheesh! Barometer is dropping like a rock. And I now have a John Deere Weather station! It has a wind gauge on it and will give me a guesstimate of the wind speed… I had to put it in an open spot on the back porch rail temporarily. Absolutely cannot get out in the sun for the time being… this is a royal pain but after getting one blistering burn early this year, I ain’t a gonna try it again. Might be a little (read a LOT) slow but not totally stupid! (Depending on whom you talk to at any given moment.
Rain is starting to fall…gently… but not a breath of air moving… I don’t like the feel of this…
Getting off of here before Thor drops his hammer or the winds start/hit….
Take care all of mine..go in safety always. Remember, take care of one another; we are all we have on this earth…

THE FOURTH OF JULY 2009 posted about 2 hours ago, updated about 2 hours later 2009, the Fourth of July!
Ya know, for some reason I have been thinking about ‘love’ today. Not ‘in love’, but the true meaning of love for one another… For our country…For our Earth mother… our home in all the universe.
I’ve learned a lot about those kinds of love since being on Eons and the internet.
THIS IS LOVE…Coconut Wireless to Emom’s Mountain News…Newsflash on BBB (Bamboo Bulletin Board) this a.m. reads as follows. FRIDAY - 7-3-09...Random reports coming in...Local Mountain Woman spotted wearing flea and tick collars around neck and ankles. Breaking News from Mountain Retreat tick turf suggests breakthrough in human defense tick tactics. Reporters sent to verify this brilliant health finding discovered 2nd ingenious invention. LOMOWO's roadside stand containing Bottled Berry Water combined with coffee found to be selling like hot cakes. A well known out of state newspaper may once again highlight this sensual senior's unusual undertakings.
THIS IS LOVE…You’re lucky, my get up and go left last year, otherwise you'd have to be looking for the fos.
THIS IS LOVE…Now, DO try to stay out of trouble today, will you? Carol needs the rest...

Hope you are better, and sober.

Ok, OK! So my coffee maker hates me and can outsmart and out think me! Sheesh. The more I think about the ‘Berry’ flavored coffee, the funnier it gets… SherriAnne thinks I can make a fortune with this idea… Sherri, honey, I think it’s a little bit late for that now.. Just saying…
The Newbie has learned a new way to communicate… lolol I went back to bed yesterday for a lovely long sound sleepy nap. Everybody was in the house except Max..
Half dozing and not yet awake, I hear AAAARRRROOOoooooo! The Newbie is singing? Now what?!?
I roll out, stagger down the hall…hang a left into the kitchen. The zoo parade traveling behind me. There’s Newbie, down on the floor, looking at the Maxfield who is on the other side of the all glass storm door!
As it was only 68 degrees out there, I propped the storm door open so the 6 pack + could come in and go out on their own. Still think I need a revolving door. And wouldn’t you know, the cooler temps mean I can turn the A/C up or down (which is it?) and open the windows too…
Another Duh Paula! LOLOL The topical ointment! Well, I put it on the shelf with my other meds and stuff…
When it was time to use the ointment late Wednesday, I reached over… picked up a jar… unscrewed the lid and promptly applied Vicks Salve to one of my itchy spots. Wednesday was just NOT my day!
I did discover tho, that ‘they’ are going back to using the good old basic sulfa for some things… That’s fine by me… There was no reason for it to go out of style (except for allergies) and it is one thing that I CAN take with no bad reactions…. Wowser!
Oh I need to tell you about another storm that came thru on Tues nite/Wed early. On the way to town, two old barns down… Trees down, up rooted or snapped off… Passed a state crew clearing up a mess on Rte. 30. Me, being nosey, asked the flag man what the crew was doing… A tree had come down across the road…
I look up and see in the rear view mirror barreling towards me a large coal truck… I decided I’d best be scooting away from the ‘one lane only’ section… Don’t want to get involved in an argument with a very large coal truck… I found a section which would allow me to get off the road… pulled over to let truck go by me…
Good thing I did cause one truck turned into three trucks in a row! Sheesh…Another good thing about pulling over to let them pass…we were at the top of the curvy hill with a 4 way stop coming up at the bottom. Them trucks don’t stop… they slow down, pull all the way to the left (oncoming traffic lane) but they don’t stop when they turn right following Rte 30… BTW, that intersection at Vincent is the only 4 way stop in Owsley County…Just in case you ever want to visit!
As I’ve said before, each day is a new adventure…
I must mention the excellent advice given my by my super nice, kind hearted neighbor down the road Anna…(I’m gonna be sick! Too much nice all at one time) Any how, Anna suggest I make a trip to Joey’s (veterinarian) office and beg, borrow, buy or steal a flea and tick collar. Anna seems to think this will help reduce the number of ticks I will find on me in the future.

Or view link www.eons.com/photos/photo/345622-Anna-and-the-mush-melon
I really need to talk to El, when I can work it into my schedule, and have him do sumfin with that woman… I mean she is really nice but boy does she give me a hard time… Well, come to think of it, so does the whole family! Lolol I love it!
Take care all of mine…Go in safety always. Remember to really look at the jars of ointment before applying same cause I tried to do it a second time!
Hugs and much love to all of mine… the still addled but improving meems

Well kids… been a rough couple of days. Trust me, for as small as they are, ticks can do a number on the body…Lordy pete, I am a mess…Allergy plus cellulites (thank you, UK Hosp.)
Visit to the Doctor… It was a Wednesday, don’t ya know. Kim was gone but the regular crew was there at the office…Saw a new Nurse Practitioner, Peggy… Nice lady… but I think she didn’t quite what to make of me… lololol Nah, can you believe that? Lolol
Anyway, I traded 5 gallons (slight exaggeration) of blood for two bottles of pills and a topical ointment. Does that sound like a fair trade? Just asking….
They is gonna send the 5 gals to the lab… test for of all kinds of tick borne diseases… The one Rx is aimed at Lyme’s (sp) Disease. And if I make typos or can’t spell today, it’s because I am only semi-sober.
Remember the last time I went on anti-histamines (drunk out of my mind) and the swing chair let go and I go boom? I don’t know why it is but I am always a split second away from total chaos and total disaster… lolol
Here’s another one… taking the Benadryl caps, right? Roll out of bed… go to kitchen after making a short pit stop. No leftover coffee.. Well, I grind the coffee beans…put them in maker basket. Go to rinse out the pot… no water. This happens every so often, sometimes the well pump needs to recharge or sumfin.
I WANT my COFFEE! Aha! Bottled water, setting on the basement steps… Took two and a half bottles to fill the pot…Coffee maker starts perking away… I see beautiful coffee dripping into pot… Wonderful!
Almost dancing with impatience, I watched… Woo Hoo…coffee pot full of lovely coffee. Pour a big mug full… Hustle down the hall, carefully balancing cup so I don’t spill any of it.
Got back here, sat, took a sip… OMG! I spit the mouthful into the plastic lined waste basket… What have I done… OMG! Have I poisoned myself? What IS going on here?
I mentally retrace my steps… did I, in my semi drunken state put something in the maker by mistake? No, did nothing out of the ordinary… Headed back down the hall, just a hustling. Checked the bottled water… Berry flavored? BERRY FLAVORED???? Well at least I hadn’t poisoned myself… What a relief!
One of Paula’s NEW Basic Rules of Thumb… Check the label before you pour…especially if bottled water was given to you… lolol
Gotta tell ya that the Marv is giving me a hard time again! He seems to take it as a personal offense if the News is late or… Heaven forfende, not published at all. Sheesh!
Keeping this short today… Got the ‘swim head’.. local term for dizziness…

Wooo Hooo! Central air back on! Starter thingy gots its lil belly to full of PBC’s or sumfin….
David’s H&P showed up after I called back today… Phone’s been ringing off the wall…JC called… told me he knows nuffin about heat pumps… I will not tell you my response… Meems was a baaaaad girl!
Any way, it was dirty and the thermostat on the C/A/C had given up. I was thinking/seeing big Big bucks to fix it…like thousands… was just a little over a hundred total…
LOLOL David kept saying hose it down… keep it clean… keep the dog hair off! Dog hair? What?!? Sumfin I own have dog hair on it?… Outside even? I change the inside filters every month… and I do mean ‘every’…
Well, the man kept stressing the ‘keep clean’ until I finally did the ‘kow tow’(sp) and replied with Yes Massah!
You see, I’d never dealt with one of these here heat pumps ever before… The Central air in Hamilton was cleaned every time it rained… Here? Well, I dunno but I guess I assumed (yes, the magic word) the same thing would happen here even tho the unit is covered by the back porch. Duh, Paula…
Let me see here… Oh yeah… KK asked to me start posting the ODDS AND ENDS column in Chit Chat Chums again.. (I think this is a bribe) Today’s hint wasn’t too spectacular but I’ve got more ideas to post there…
Need I mention that Annie is getting out of hand again? Gots to watch that woman like a hawk… Her is getting a little (read a lot) risqué in WHVV! And she is doing these logic lists… Did I ever mention that I have no logic? Well, I do sometimes but that is dangerous territory!
Marv has been grumping at me… You’d think I was assaulting him personally when I am late with the News or God forbid, I should not post one at all… Sheesh, what’s a meems to do with such a Brat! No comments please! I’m having enuf trouble containing myself as it is… Don’t need any ideas… maybe just a few iddy biddy hints? Lolol
As for the Boss Man… Oh dear! I think he’s given up on me…Rumor has it tho that he is still on his knees, thanking the Creator that I wasn’t born twins. Smart man!
I gotta tell ya that I have received the funniest pm’s about my trip to Wal-mart. I would put them here but we’uns ain’t allowed…
But I can tell you about this one… from a lady on another SocNet site. She wanted to know who installed my window unit… I cracked up… lolol
I told her that I honestly didn’t know. Well, I didn’t!
Jessie was in here… so was the sainted Gary… and ALL of the 6 pack +. I was desperately trying to stay out of the way and not get stepped on! I couldn’t even get to the far corner of the bed…
Bed was covered with cardboard and packing junk and the a/c and and and…. I’m telling ya’ it was dangerous in here! AND hottern hades.
Now the floor needs to be raked and curried again! Viva got into the cat food and knocked over my mug of iced pop… How bout a red & white splotchy kitchen floor… supposed to be white… Oh well, I could paint the cabinets blue, apply some stars… now there’s a thot!
Anyhow, I took down the little desk from the south wall.… It was in the way of the A/C filter. Got the two drawer filing cabinets (2 of them) out of the studio. Brot the core door in here and set it up from the foot of the bed to the west wall… just fits with maybe 3 to 4 inches to spare…Did I measure… Of course not! I just KNEW it would fit! So anyhow, the TV is residing in a place of honor… and eventually… I think I will move the extra puter over there… Just to keep records and junk… maybe a diary… lolol or not… Depends on how sinful I am…
Well kids…gots ta get back to work… hand shovel the mess out of the way … the go get the back hoe!
Take care all of mine…go in safety always… Remember to hose down the outside unit at least once a month… or whatever! Lolol
Many hugs and much love… meems
PS... Junie... To be up and breathing is a fantastic day! hugs...

Gee whiz! I’ve enuf stuff to take care of three days worth of news… lolol And then some!
Before I forget, the figures for the A/C yesterday were wrong… A/C is actually 8000 btu not 6000. I have no idea where that 6 came from … I DO know that my brane and fingers, separately and/or collectively, have minds of their own. Rarely do I have any control over either one.
Oh children, it is yummy cool in here… Might even have to put some clothes on! Bad Paula… shame on meems! Lololol
One thing about the window unit… (I’m not used to having a noisy fan going in here during the day) .. Sound is different and I was aware of the sound all day. Was not comfy with it but today is not as bad. By tomorrow, I shouldn’t ‘hear’ it at all.
There is a small problem with this tho… The a/c drowns out all other sounds… I cannot hear the crows fussing or the dogs barking or my flyguys going over…Well ratz… life ain’t perfect and I am very comfortably cool… Shut up, Paula!
Let’s see here… Oh, me being a bad girl at Wal-mart. I asked the clerk with some help with the a/c.. sort of heavy for me and Jess to handle… The sainted Gary disappeared as soon as we went thru the doors… Can you believe he refuses to be seen with the two of us girls? Can’t imagine why! Lolol Anyway, to be nice to the guy, he did have shoulder surgery about a month ago.
Purty soon here comes a cute young man to do the lifting and toting for us… He told me that he worked 3 jobs and was still broke…
Well, me being the kind hearted soul that I am, I offered him a rent free space in the basement; sleep on the hide a bed down there… in exchange for some work that needs to be done around the house.
Jessie, friend that SHE is (not) warned him not to take me up on the deal… I would work him to death! Me, in the meantime, is standing there looking innocent and childlike… The check out clerk and the young man cracked up… Young man told me he has a home of his own… Paid for! Sheesh… Told him I was so disappointed… had my hopes built up and all that nonsense… lolol
Then, I paid the bill by check…Now remember… this little mountain woman who ain’t been to a ‘big’ store in forever, is now in a big town with the latest electronic gizmos. I write out the check… Gal rings it up and now I have to sign my name on the little electronic box thingy.
Lordy pete… I put the point of the pen on the little box and I start to sign my name. Pen and signature line refuse to match up. While I am pondering on this situation, the young man keeps saying: “Now don’t confuse her. Don’t confuse herâ€Â…
Well, deciding that pen and line are never going to meet, I scribble my name. Put the pen down and stand there…
And stand there…
All at once, young man reaches across me and punches a button on the box thingy. Jess and clerk are cracking up!
I look at box again… there, as plain as day, in the bottom left hand corner is a button that says ‘enter’ or sumfin like that.
I didn’t see that button… didn’t know I had to push it… Duh Paula! I looked at Jess.. Did you know? She nodded yes… I wanted to know why she didn’t say sumfin… I quote: “ you were having too good a timeâ€Â…Well, that was a truism…!
Any how, after clearing the check-out lane, out the door we go… Young man pushing the cart with the a/c…to the pick-up. Loaded the a/c in the bed. I thanked the young man…and gave him a hug and a smooch on the cheek… He giggled but did not blush. Kissed me back… Wowser… Wonder if he is up for adoption. Never hurts to ask! Lolol
I think I need to get out more often… lololol
I am out a here… gots to start rearranging furniture and stuff… Oh yeah… move or change one little thing and the whole house gets out of whack! Gots to make space so I can remove the filter on the a/c. Groan!
Take care all of mine…Go in safety always. Remember to head the other direction if I mention the need to go shopping. Especially if you are easily embarrassed.
Many hugs and much love… the had the best time meems
EMOM'S MOUNTAIN NEWS posted 1 minute ago 2009/6/27 0730hrs
Morning all…Gotta love the mountains… 90 during the day…Humidity at a gazillion percent …No breeze and the a/c quits early in the day… Call for repair men… Guess what!?! It’s FRIDAY afternoon… Ain’t nobody home… I even called the Boss Man, but he was out on another call! (I am telling a BIG fib here!) Nobody works on the weekends, nobody!
Well, I called Jessie… she’s gonna take me Wallyworld in Jackson. Going early this morning…I squiggled enuf money out of my savings to buy a small A/C. I can at least be cool here in the apartment.. Managed to get to sleep but I did have 3 fans blowing on me… Sheesh… If it ain’t one thing it’s a bunch of others. Gonna be another hot one today… already in the 80’s, inside and out. Dogs don’t like this heat either…
Well ratz… lolol I put some smell good cream on my arms and now I have a smell good keyboard… NO! I’m not typing with my arms, ding dings! I forgot got I had it on my hands… lolol
Fed and watered all the critters… now, I’m just a waiting for Jess and the sainted Gary to arrive.
Heaven forfende! Am I complaining about the weather? Oh yeah… I am a Fall and Winter person… and Spring ain’t too bad either…
Later all…
Same day 1852 hours…
Made trip…only we went to Manchester instead of Jackson…only a 50 mile round trip instead of a hundred plus… Got a GE… 6000 btu. Even has a remote! A remote? Lolol Just my style too old and too sorry to get out of the chair?
Well, anyway… unit is installed… working and the temp is slowly but surely dropping here in the apartment…I am gonna survive and my enemies are weeping in the streets of greater downtown Booneville. Lolol
I was a bad girl at Walmart but I’ll tell you about that tomorrow… Gots to get used to this new sound and feeling to the apartment…
Take care all of mine, go in safety always… Remember, you can most always get warm, especially when you have dogs… There ain’t any amount of ‘taking off’ that will keep you cool. I think I just said a truism…
Many hugs and much love… meems… the air cooled meems!
