REMEMBER OUR TROOPS… TOMORROW IS WEAR RED DAY….

Well, kids… I worked on the new painting and managed to spill, drip, sumfin, paint thinner in my pop can… Can you say: ruined the taste? No, I didn’t swallow it! Lolol I’m not that bad off yet… or maybe I am…Sheesh!

Gotta tell ya that the critters are starting to get to me… I was up late last nite…Got ready for bed and tried to do some cover diving! Magic word here is ‘tried’. Would you believe that somehow they managed to short sheet the covers.

Have you ever tried to rearrange the covers and stuff while you are in bed and in the dark and you have a gazillion critters in the bed with you? Lolol This is not fun! Some were under the covers… some were between the covers… NOBODY wanted to move! Lily grumbled…Spud wouldn’t move at all… Lilah decided to leave but only after she attacked my toes thru the blankets…(this got my attention right away and a squall)

I finally gave up and got up… Sheesh! I then attempted to straighten the bed clothes. Had one heck of a time getting the beasties out of/off of the covers but finally made it. I crawled in and then got tickled.

Why me?… Why?

I’m a good person, got a good heart, nice, sweet natured, willing to share… all that stuff. (I think I are gonna be sick here) Shut up, Marv! Why do these things happen to me? Just askin’ … don’t expect an answer! I really must like to live dangerously… lolol

Looks like more rain coming in… skies are darkening and the wind is picking up.

Later all of mine… take care and go in safety always. Remember to laff at yourself .. it always helps me… but, then again, what do I know?

Many hugs and much love… the professional cover diver meems

Fort Campbell welcomes home Vietnam vets
The Associated Press
FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. -- Hundreds of veterans finally got the homecoming they never had when they returned from the Vietnam War decades ago.
At Fort Campbell on Sunday, veterans from across the country re-enacted their return from war, but this time they were greeted by family, friends, local Army officials and the community.
Spokesman Maj. Patrick Seiber of the Fort Campbell-based 101st Airborne Division said the ceremony is a first for the installation, and he hopes other installations will follow their lead in honoring Vietnam veterans.

One 72-year-old Army veteran, Mickey Leighton of Florida, said seeing all the applause and praise from the community was very emotional.

EMOM WAS NOT HAPPY AGAIN! I CALLED FORT CAMPBELL TODAY!

Yup yup, I did! Tripped over the above article the other day and had one heck of a time trying to find it again. When something good happens for the veterans and that they should know, it’s unfindable! We can change that much with a little bit of effort.

Well, I called the Chaplains’ offices. Sgt. There gave me the number of the PAO. (Public Affairs office.)

Spoke to a nice young lady, Kathy, who was very patient and kind. She passed me on to ‘Bob’, the Boss there. (pondering here… how did a 20 year Navy man end up in the PAO at an army base?) lolol

Well, Boss Bob, bless his heart, listened to me ramble on about getting the info out. I was on my soap box sort of (read BIG TIME soap box here). (I even threatened him with a visit from Broom) My point being that whether or not the veteran and / or family members attended, the fact that Viet Nam Veterans are FINALLY being honored, would be a step towards healing the hurts from so long ago.

Anyhow… as far as I know there is no reward out for me (yet) but I made my point. I am now on the list of upcoming events for/from the PAO at Fort Campbell, KY the home of the 101st airborne! However, Boss Bob did mention that I was preaching to the choir! I fell off the chair. I can’t remember if he mumbled under his breath that after today he was going to retire.. lolol That’s not true. I just couldn’t resist! Lolol Gotcha Boss Bob!

If anyone else out there is interested in getting this information out to all, please call the base Chaplain. Someone there will give you the correct info as to whom you will need to speak. Come on everybody… get off your dead rumps and do sumfin for ours.

One Flaw In Women

Women have strengths that amaze men. They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in. They stand up to injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideas.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give.

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN, IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH. Sent to me by Cheryl Haskins… one of mine… Thank you dear heart.

I’m telling, for not going anyplace, I have really been busy. Right now, Weedeater is out there playing in the grass… Says it’s gonna rain tomorrow… I sure hope so… We’ve sort of been in a feast/famine situation with the weather… When it’s not raining, it is still wet from the humids. Humid or not, dry weather up here is really dry! When it is raining now, we have flash flooding almost every time…

Be sure to check out Chit Chat Chums…Our recent signer-upper, Lurkee Turkee, has really been taking the heat from me… lolol He has a family tree you would not believe! Lololol

Then, there’s the Boss man… He’s borrowed an avatar from the Turkee Clan member, Churkee. Don’t know which is worse… the Boss or the Lurkee Turkee… You can read all about the clan in CCC under the Lurkee Thread… gotcha both this time… lololol

I forget whether I mentioned my front window, the candle and my flags… Well, I took a picture of it last nite. I need to learn more of the tricks to this digital thingy camera…lol
I never go out the front door… but last nite I did… the dogs got all riled up… “What IS she doing now?”

view link

And then there’s the KK… she didn’t have enuf critters before, now she has 3 new kitties. That Lady is almost as bad as I am… I said almost! Hush now!

Marv is still picking on me… I ask myself all the time what’s a person like me to do? Get tickled is the answer…

Here is a pic of a thunder cloud (anvil head) developing to the east of the house. To the east of here is mostly good… means the storm has passed us by. I say mostly good because when the storms come out of the east or northeast, they can be very dangerous and destructive. The storm gods love the mountains…

Guess that’s it for a while… Take care all of mine…go in safety always. Remember to take care of our Mother Earth. We leave our children in her hands…

Many hugs and much love… meems

SURVEYING SHIPS SUNK OFF NORTH CAROLINA IN WORLD WAR II
NOAA will lead a three-week research expedition in August to study World War II shipwrecks sunk in 1942 off the coast of North Carolina during the Battle of the Atlantic. The shipwrecks are located in an area known as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic," which includes sunken vessels from US and British naval fleets, merchant ships and German U-boats.

I not in the best shape right now… Well, I am, but I’m not! The Newbie is under my chair right now..playing tether-ball again! Pyg’s is licking my right ankle. Lilah is curled up on my lap, chin resting on my left forearm. Max is buried under the cover he’s pulled off onto the floor. Spudley has flopped in the middle of the bed…all 4 in the air! Lily is curled up back behind the two drawer filing cabinet. Ophie is in/on the doggy bed by my feet… is that everybody? Wait… Oh, the Viva is in the kitchen… she likes the nice cool floor. Yup, that’s everybody.. 8 critters… everybody down for the count..happy and cool!

Latest news… There’s been a terrible fire in downtown Beattyville. Wiped out a whole city block… Lots of people out of jobs right now. Wiped out a largish grocery store, a small restaurant, a long established department store and goody (glass ware, etc,) shop… possibly the post office and other businesses.

Beattyville is about 40 miles from my home but I did go shopping there. Latest reports say that no one was hurt or killed. The whole town is shut down for the time being. Those poor people…

I just did talk to Pogo… Her hubby is a volunteer firefighter and has been at the fire scene all day. Two fire fighters were hauled to the hospital for smoke inhalation and another fire fighter has a broken ankle.

Meems is out of here for now… Take care all of mine… go in safety always. Remember to be thankful for what you have. There are many who have nothing…

TOMORROW IS WEAR RED DAY… DON’T FORGET THAT EITHER!

Hugs and much love… meems

2009/8/10-11

It’s wind change time here on the mountain. My Lady, the Mountain, almost breathes as though she is alive. (in my mind, she is alive)

I just went out to put the trash out by the mail box. (Trash day, BOSS) The air is very hot and dead still out there right now. The sun is behind the trees to the far west.

Everything comes to a stop about this time of day. No breezes for about an hour. Then, the air starts to cool on the heights and after an hour or so, the cooler air starts to move down the slopes. The warmer breezes start rise from the valleys. It’s a magic time of day when the temps are a little lower.

While I was out there, I checked the mail box… A bill, naturally. And then I heard one of my BBSBs up there. Heard the sound and tried to locate. Finally, there he was right over head…contrail and all. I threw my usually waving, hugging, sending kisses fit. WeeeooooH! I got flashed. Oh yeah, I stood out there on the driveway, giggling and doing my happy dance.

Hey, what can I say… I’m a cheap date. It don’t take much to make me happy.

So, I’m standing out there, no sound at all, not even from the BBSB and all of a sudden I hear what sounds like a herd of elephants galloping in my direction.

I turned around…the herd of elephant turns into one large, (make that immense) peach colored dog. What in the world is the Newbie doing?

I take my eyes off the BBSB for a minute to watch the ruckus behind me. The Newbie is chasing after the Lilah who has disappeared into the flowers in front of the house.

Then here comes Lilah just a gittin’ it… out of the flower beds… up the ramp… under the little wheel-a-round thingy. The Newbie is right behind her and catching up. Lilah always fakes him out on one of these chases…

As soon as she clears the underside of the little cart, she also clears the side porch. She is always gone by the time the Newbie gets there. Newbie whines, cries and even whimpers. Lilah by this time is knocking at the back porch door.

While this is going on, I can hear the rest of the 6 pack+ down by the creek… From the sounds I’m hearing, they are in hot pursuit of a wild rabbit. Said rabbit has figured out that if he jumps to a particular ledge above the level of the dogs, they can’t find him. Dogs lose the scent… rabbit is safe for the moment and the dogs have gotten some exercise.

I stand out there and wave until the contrail disappears behind the far mountain. My heart lighter and my mind more at peace. All is right with my world. Go in safety mine.
Now, who do I talk to about the rest of mine? I have the Army, the Navy, the Marines, the Coast Guard, Merchant Marines out there and never get a peek at them.

I did see Army down here many moons ago but not nary a one of the others. Granted, it would be difficult to get them ships and boats up here but I do have a creek that has water in it sometimes. The CG guys and gals wouldn’t have to worry about their boats rolling over in rough seas. Hmmmm…. Wonder if they have many of them air boats or what ever they call them? The ones that float on a cushion of air.

I am outa here for now… Take care all of mine…go in safety always. Remember to look up and be thankful.

Many hugs and much love… meems

WOOOHOOOO! Saw my flyguys out there early this am. Well, I saw some contrails and one BBSB. Heard more but couldn’t see them. But I didn’t get flashed this morning. I think I am gonna pout…lolol I’m kidding… I’m just glad that I can see them occasionally and hear them often. Enjoy your air time young’uns…Temperature wasn’t too awful bad this am but the humidity is terrible again.

Here are a few more tips and ideas for baking/frying stuff on metal roof in this hot August weather:
Fry bacon near the down spout. Put bowl or sumfin at bottom of down spout to catch the drippin’s … Mix in with dog food for the winter months. This is a good idea even if you use a skillet and the dogs love it. Come to think of it, so do cats.
Cook eggs on bacon grease that’s left on roof.
Toast and fried biscuits can be done in the same area.

SherriAnne mentioned not to use chocolate bits when baking cookies on roof…too messy. Thanks for the tip Sherri… lolol Every little bit of info helps when learning a new way to cook.

My brain works in strange and mysterious ways. I know, I know, an understatement if you’ve ever read one.

For many a moon, I’ve thought about the reasons for the changes to our weather patterns. Just yesterday, I read an article that confirmed my speculations on the ice ages and global warming. The earth’s orbit around the sun is not circular; it is an oval sort of… and the earth has a wobble…called a precession. Put these two items together over a looong period of time and you will have long term weather changes. I just thot you all might like to know that! Lolol In other words, complain though we will about the weather, the Earth will do as she will!

I just went out to the kitchen to get a refill on the coffee… Looked out the side door and the sky is covered with clouds. In less than 20 mins the sun is gone. Guess we’uns is gonna have rain moving in… Might help if I’d check the weather channel… lolol

Well, it looks like the new neighbors have moved out. They left a veggie garden and a lot of sunflowers. Max is now staying home. I think he misses their two dogs. Max would spend a lot of time up there playing with them.

Sheesh, have I caught a lot of flack from the Marv… Announcing our re-engagement. Lololol He is throwing a fit in my direction… lolol KK and I have ganged up on him. He has declared war on the KK. He demands to know why he is receiving this terrible treatment. All I can say is that he deserves it, has earned the right, and is entitled… All I need to do now is sit here and throw in a comment now and then. Gotcha again.

Later all of mine…Take care, go in safety always.

To the family and friends of Mike Speicher, flyguy…My deepest sympathy and my sincerest admiration. The answer was a long time coming.

Much love and many hugs … meems

Herald-Leader staff report

FRANKFORT — Two Kentucky Army National Guard aviation units will have a farewell ceremony Sunday before leaving for training and eventual deployment to Kosovo.

Mobilizing for the year-long deployment are Bravo Co., 2nd Batallion, 147th Aviation, and Charlie Co. 169th MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation). The two units will first travel to Camp Atterbury near Edinburgh, Ind., for several weeks of training before leaving for Kosovo.

In addition to 86 soldiers, the units will deploy with 11 UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters.

The farewell ceremony will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Army Aviation Support Facility, Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort.

This is the second deployment for each unit. Bravo Co. deployed to Iraq in 2005-06 and Charlie Co. in 2004-05.

Kentucky has only deployed one other unit to Kosovo. The soldiers of Company C, 206th Engineers served there in 2004-05.

Mornin’ (for me) everybody… Come on in and cool off for a bit… Have lemonade and iced tea if anybody wants some.

I’ll have you know I got grumped at yesterday.  Lolol  Somebody didn’t like the idea of baking cookies on the metal roof.  And the Boss Man made a comment and warned me  ‘not overdo it’ because of all the dusting I didn’t do.  I DID get the coils on the fan cleaned off. Sheesh, people can be so hard to please sometimes.. lololol

All the critters are inside right now… Way too hot for them outside… 90° in the shade..110 in the direct sun.  Lilah has curled herself up on my lap… she can be such a help typing and checking things out on the puter screen.  The wrecking crew and Max are holding my feet to the floor…To keep me from going Airborne?  To keep my toes and feetsies warm?   WHAT?!?  To keep me from running away from the home that no longer belongs to me?  The critters have revolted and now I feel lucky just to be allowed in the door!

You oughta see the critters when we are all in my/their studio area. The area beneath the easel is the sole property of the Lilyputzer!  She does not take kindly to any one else intruding on her territory.  Sheesh, she can be so grumpy!

http://www.eons.com/photos/photo/490031-LILYPUTZ-2

And I think Marv and I are engaged again.  He doesn’t know it yet but I have decided it’s the only thing to do?  We’ve have had two years almost now of ‘on again’, off again’ engagements… Yeah, I know, it’s a long distance romance but he refuses to move and I ain’t gonna leave my mountain… so there you are.  Gotcha, sweetie!  Lololol

I think I will head for the fall out shelter for now.  Remember to live, love and laff everyday… It’s good for you… (It helps if you have somebody like the Boss or Marv or Wayne to pick on!  Oh yeah!)

Take care all of mine … go in safety always.  Much love and many hugs… the up to no good meems

Lordy pete, children… get your buns inside, right now! The back porch thermometer says 94 degrees… I would be baking cookies on the metal roof right now but somebody stole my extension ladder a while back. Truth on the ladder business but I wouldn’t trust the cookie baking remark too far. Those flying jet packs don’t work for me either… Singed my tail feathers, I did! Now, would these lovely green eyes lie or make things up? Oh yeah, but I always tell on myself! Gots the giggles, me.

About yesterday’s kudzu report… I received several pm’s and emails about the kudzu.
Like I said before, if the Army ain’t going into that stuff, I ain’t either…I just had a thot. Wonder if it’s any good to use kudzu as a rope to tether satellites and stuff like that to the earth. A kudzu ladder to the space station? (heads up NASA) Make a big net of it to capture and haul in the baddies like Tarzan used to do…

Any body out there remember Johnny Weismuller as Tarzan. Did anybody ever read the books written by Edgar Rice Burroughs? The Martian series? Oh yeah… I read them babies when I was 10 or 11 years old. I’ve waited a long time to hear that a man has landed on Mars…

I think it was in the early 1940’s when they bounced the first radar beam off the moon (don’t quote me on the date). I remember listening to the radio, no TV or satellites back then. The adults would talk about how the ‘beam’ could poke a hole in the ‘air’. None of this ‘atmospheric’ fancy talk for the adults… Back then, air was just air; the stuff we breathed. Adults and children alike breathed a big sigh of relief when the radio said the beam had returned… We still had air.

Speaking of air…I’ve seen a few contrails the last few days but the heat and the bugs are getting to me… I know I shouldn’t complain about the heat and the bugs because what we have here is nothing compared to what our guys and gals go through daily with no relief. Overlook me, kids. Sorry. I have a roof, food, and cool air because you are out there guarding our county… Have I thanked you recently? Sometimes I forget to say it but I never forget to think it… Hugs, love and a big thank you to all of mine. I am smiling at you… Kids, I hope you journeyed safely to your new location. I miss you.

Lets see here, does anybody else have trouble with ‘time’ getting away from them? Sheesh, it’s Saturday already and this morning was a long time ago.

Later all, I’m sure I’ll find sumfin to get into today. Remember to appreciate all the good things we have going for us. I wouldn’t want to live any place else. Would you?

Many hugs and much love … meems
