Gonna be another one of those OH DEAR! days again! Sheesh! Might just as well come in and make selves ta home! Gonna be a while til we can make to Andy's!
The roads are terrible! I really DO need to talk to the weather man about his predictions! "Rain and freezing rain" Him didn't say a darned thing about SNOW until after it started falling!
How bout we had 6" of very wet, sticky, icy snow? Oh yeah! 6"!
Now, nice dry powdery snow is no problem. Ain't any good for making snowmen but it's not quite so dangerous if you stay inside the house.
Wet, sticky, good packin' snow is a whole different story!
Heavy wet snow does strange things to the environment! Yup, it does!
Heavily laden branches and power lines don't do well!
What usually follows this type of snow event? Power outages... Major power outages.!
Let's see here.... power out? That's ok... No elec heat? Got back up propane heater (at least the pipes won't freeze) ...just need to go to basement and turn gas on!
No water from well... Hmmm! Run tub full of water.
No lites... have oil lamps for kitchen and bedroom... Two candles in the bath tub... provide some heat and lite.
Wind up radio...Wind up flashlite... water jugs...
Dogs keep me warm in bed at nite!
Sounds like I have most everything covered, right? Wrong!... Here comes another OH DEAR!
I sure tripped over my own ego on this part... I take a small led lite to the basement... turn on gas to stove... no sound! No hissing, no nuthin'...
I go to the gas logs... turn valve on... nuthin' again... I double check! Nope, no gas!
It dawns on me, finally, I have not turned the valve at the propane tank to 'ON'... Well, ratz!
After dark, snow, wind... slick... Turning 'on' must wait until this morning!
After a few false starts, the elec finally came back on this morning or I wouldn't be here now! lolol
Oopsie... phone call again... brb!
Well, that brb was written hours ago...
Took nap... went out and played in the snow for a while...took photos... Darned dig cam still not working right!
Loaded up my 35 mm cam and out the front door I went.. Snow has turned to spongy ice... not slick at all! I was double bathrobed. Bright red over old beat up gray!
Lots of pix... turned on the propane valve... fed the chickie ducks...and got the old bod back in the house!
Heard my flyguys up there and waved... Couldn't see them but I sure could hear them! I'm sure they could see me! lolol Bright red gown in the middle of a very white field!
The three Elec company trucks/guys could certainly see me! Oh well! lolol
Best get moving again... puter really slow!
Take care all of mine... go in safety always.
Remember to go with the flow even if it does get dammed up once in a while! lolol
Love and many hugs .... Meems UH OH! Starting to snow again!
2008/12/11 0933 EST
Remember me? The sweet, charming, kind hearted lil old mountain woman? (I am gonna be ill) The one who NEVER gets into trouble? The one to whom nothing ever happens? All of the above is a whopper except for the Mountain part! I have the giggls already!
Try to roll out this morning...I find that I have been made into a 'people' sammich again! Might have been cause I had the east window open and the fan blowing. Anyhow, meems at the center of a 'wrap'! Couldn't move...
I start struggling to rise (but not shine just yet) The 6 pack +1 are ecstatic! MOM's AWAKE! Mom is also being pounded to a pulp! lolol
Maxfield is overjoyed... clambers over blankets, over other dogs and various and assorted parts of this abused ol body!
Now, you must understand, my arms are pinned under the covers. (cold with window open but good sleeping) Gee, all of a sudden I can't breathe! I am getting a face scrubbing to end all! Doggy kisses! ( Somebody loves me) Slurps my nose... I hold breathe til I turn blue...Open mouth to breathe and I get more 'kisses' OH dear...
I finally manage to struggle out of bed... head for kitchen... Throw little dogs out the side door... Newbie, China and Spudley are waiting patiently at the back door...
I stand staring out the side door waiting for the coffee to perk... I hear the Newbie roar... alarm barks from all as they head west... OK, now what?
I see forms in the far field above me...Heavy mist out there and the rain is falling.. What in the world???? Then I start to giggle!
Turkeys... feathered kind...a flock of 7 birds... Could have told the pack + about turkeys but they wouldn't have listened to me anyway... lolol
Turkeys took to the air! Turkeys really shouldn't be able to fly. Lumbering, heavy bodied take offs but they do get airborne after a rough start! Dogs left standing ...Aw shucks, MOM... They got away! lolol
Coffee almost done... some come in out of the cold rain, dogs that is...some stay out...
Get coffee mug filled, start back here to the apartment! That rotten Max had managed to find and lay a paper crumb trail in next to no time!
I would say I hate dogs but I'm not allowed...KK will get me and I've forgotten what she threatened to do to me if I say it! Long story! lololol
Let me see here... a note... OzarkReader said some really nice things about the News.... And how she learns so much about grammar! LOLOL Well, I will tell you all a little secret, just don't tell OR...
I make up words as I go along! Yup, I do... Kinda arrange them words to suit myself too! Ain't (a no no word) that what it's all about? Express thyself! Or sumfin like that?!? Gotcha OR! lololol
What else? OH, OlBear is back safe and sound from his trip... Welcome home, dear heart.
Raainbow will be on medical leave for a month or so... Wish her well everybody... She might be a brat, but she is one of mine!
Got an email from JC...Subject: Are we kin?... lolol I ain't gonna get into the rest of the letter... Let's just say it would have been simpler for him to pick up the phone and ask. The response would have been the same.. NO WAY! Nope! Uh uh! Negative! lolol Gotcha Brat!
Gotta tell ya... I worked hours on that Christmas card. New program...Complicated program... Meems is a puter dummy! I really did struggle...
Well, I sent a card to all my active groups... Religion didn't enter into it, in a way. I just wanted to share my happiness will all! It took me two days to get them all sent..How bout I forgot to unsubscribe to the posts? lololol....
Oh yeah! At one time yesterday, I had 108 notifications listed in my emails...Can you say Duh Paula! Another 'what in the world?!? Then it dawned on me. Of course, I told the KK what I had done and she cracked up! I DO NOT lead a simple life as some might suppose! I am never bored!
Fair warning! When meems is bored, meems can be dangerous to all concerned!
Well, I am outa here for now... still have notifications coming in the emails.... lolol I just might reconsider card sending next year... lolol nah! Look at all I would have missed.
Take care all of mine... go in safety always... love and hugs... meems
EMOM'S MOUNTAIN NEWS 12/10/2008 posted 1 minute ago For all of mine ... 2008/12/10 0954EST Mornin' everybody! Welcome home, Dear Hearts, welcome home! Come on in and set a spell! There's coffee and munchies to hold you until we can get to Andy's for a real meal! Whoooooeeeeee! We've had rain and the pond is filling nicely! YES! However, the mushrooms out back are threatening to go on strike! Demanding I supply them with umbrellas if it's gonna keep raining like this! lolol I just made that up! Got the giggles... However, it did rain! One point seven inches of rain! Yes...Must be caused by my trying to keep the mud mopped up off the kitchen floor! Did you know that a 6 pack + 1 can track in an awful lot of mud on them hairy feets? Oh yeah! If I was smart, I save that dirt for the flower pots... lolol waste not, want not! or sumfin like that! Hmmm! I can add the dust on the living room furniture too! I just might go into some kind of business here! lolol I have a whole list of notes here on my notepad... Real one not virtual! KK... The brat has been playing with the banners again. She has done some beautiful Christmas ones... Especially the one for The Lighter Side of Oldies...really neat! Oh another on yesterday's weather...lolol Weather station said 'winds at 16 mph'. Let me tell you that the Weather station was off by more than a little! I opened the side door to make my daily trip to the mail box and found myself in the middle of the little porch ... The wind caught the door just right, picked me up and set me down outside! Hmmm! Well, this was interesting... I am no lightweight; chubby old gal that I am! (I will not discuss my weight, uh uh!) Now, we all know that I don't do numbers well at all. However, common sense (what little I have) tells me that 16 mph winds are not strong enuf to pick me up and set me outside! Need to talk to them weather people... make a hint they look or walk outside just for a second or so! More coffee! As a lot of you already know, I sent out my very first Christmas card yesterday... Only did about half my groups cause I was afraid I might reach Eons limitations. I got all kinds of lovely messages in reply... But the best comment read: "Whatever"... Well, I cracked up. Been there, felt that way on occasion myself... Best get scooting here... All kinds of stuff to do... Marv will be chewing me out very shortly for abandoning him... (He really wouldn't be that lucky) And I REALLY need to shovel out the living room! Take care all of mine... go in safety always...Remember to laff and giggle at the silly side of life... don't take yourself too seriously.... Happy Birthday, Handsofhope! Hugs Hugs and much love... meems
EMOM'S MOUNTAIN NEWS 12/09/2008 posted 10 minutes ago 2008/12/09 1132EST! WELL RATZ! Will try this again... had the first version of the news all done when the server dropped me as I tried to save it....Wait til I get myself in the right frame of mind again... Right now I just want to cuss and fuss! OK... I think I started out with the temps here... When I got up at 0930, it was 54° out there... Before the hour was up, the temp had risen to 64°! Now, I wanted to know how come 64 outside in the winter time was a heat wave. But inside the house in the kitchen on cold mornings, 64 is freezing? Oh... and the wooly worms have not come thru on there predictions! Most every one who saw them this fall, saw all black ones. (Cold all winter) Very few reported seeing the black with rust colored belly bands. (cold , warm, cold) What about the all white ones? (snow) Or the black/rust with white patches? Hmmm! Does this mean we can no longer rely on nature to give us the long range winter weather? What about the fat squirrels? (long hard winter) And the ground squirrels with cheeks full of corn? (storing up for a hard winter) Oh dear... What about the snow tale? For every morning of fog in August, we will have a heavy snow come winter. Took a break and looked out the east window of the apartment! LOLOLOL The dogs are at it! Oh, I must tell you about the mouse traps (Why aren't they called mice traps) Well shoot! I digress (thank you KK...lolol) before I even get to the story! Mouse traps.... After following the Max with the rake to clean up the paper crumb trail, I decided to teach Max to stay out of waste paper basket! I am getting too old for the old gazillion paper pick up! Squalling NO is hard on the vocal cords not to say the nerves! Well, the last time I went into town, I bought a pack of mouse traps.... I set the trap and placed it right atop the basket. The Maxfield needs to learn the house rules! ...Stayed there until I went to get more coffee! Came back... snapped trap now on floor! Hmmm! Reset trap... replaced atop the basket... strike two! lolol (I am always careful to aim trap bar away from critters) Now, all I need do is set/place unset trap any where I want to ban the critters. Better yet, I can shake the trap and I get heads up from the + 1 ....lolol Works almost as well as the magic word GUN! Now, that's taken care of.... and the Newbie is teaching the Max to be a 'big' dog ... guard and watch type dog! LOLOL They are so funny to watch... Max copies Newbie's moves exactly! Just like a little shadow! Newb's, pyggs and Max are playing out side the apartment window as I write! Max standing as tall as he is able, only comes up to newbie's nose when Newb's is standing... Pyggs can't make it that far... Any way... there is play growling, laff panting, grins, tongues hanging out! The best to watch tho is the two little ones hiding under Newb's belly! Will all the dancing and prancing, Newbs can't get to them... Newb's will plop down... oopsie... no shelter any more! They tumble down slope, get up ... play tag and gotcha running up the hill! Seems like tails were made for more than just wagging. Big dogs chase little ones... Bigs grab small tails... this puts a definite halt to the chase! lololol OH yeah! Doesn't work the other way around tho! Before I forget again... KK has started a juke box in the Armed Forces Bar and Grill... Andy has music! lolol Right now, it has all Christmas music... Don't know what the KK will come up with after the holidays.... Maybe a request section ... something like the old songs that were popular during the different eras... I remember "The White Cliffs of Dover" or "I'll Be Home For Christmas" type songs... Ah, nostalgia! Gots to watch the KK... She comes up with some of the neatest stuff! (Had to say that... Her will gotchas me if I ain't careful... ) Did I tell you she has a degree in gotcha? Her also blackmails me if I get tooooooo far out of line! lololol Gotcha first today! lolol Saw evidence of my flyguys up there this morning... Stitching the clouds together... Can't hear them tho.... The wind gods are out playing! Screeching and howling around the corner of the apartment. Maybe later today I will see the contrails.... Hope so... I do laff at myself, out there on the drive way, waving and throwing kisses and hugs... I can't wait til the neighbors move in.... lololol That's ok tho... I'll continue to wave and laff at myself... Just wish one time that I could fly with them... just once. Later all of mine... Take care and go in safety always...Remember you can always move to the mountains... Mountains do strange things to the brane! I am living proof! ROFLMBO! Hugs and much love ... Meems
EMOM' MOUNTAIN NEWS 12/08/2008 posted 1 minute ago For all of mine ... 2008/12/08 1447 EST Late, late, late, me! Slept the clock around again...Can't be my age, could it? My meds? My charming disposition? Overwork? Underpayment? Hmmmm? Look out, here comes a 'pity party'! lolol Grasscutter came out to check on me... Poor man...lolol Had no idea he was coming out... He had just gotten off work salting the roads....Wet snow and icy conditions are mind boggling here in the mountains... Many of the curves in the roads are slanted the wrong way... too many of the roads have no guard rails... Dangerous to say the least.... Some, in the past, have gone over the side not to be found for a week or better. I stay home! Received this from Wayne (Little Jake) lolol His poor wife... what she must put up with... Gotcha Sweets! lol ******************************************************** Here's the answer to all your computer problems. If you follow this you'll become an instant Nerd. LOL ....LJ Subject: Why Computers Sometimes Crash! by Dr. Seuss Why Computers Sometimes Crash! by Dr. Seuss. (Read this to yourself aloud - it's a must!) If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, and the bus is interrupted at a very last resort, and the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, then the socket packet pocket has an error to report. If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash, and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash, and your data is corrupted cause the index doesn't hash, then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash! If the label on the cable on the table at your house, says the network is connected to the button on your mouse, but your packets want to tunnel to another protocol, that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall...... And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss, so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse; then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang, 'cuz sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang. When the copy on your floppy's getting sloppy in the disk, and the macro code instructions cause unwanted risk, then you'll have to flash the BIOS and you'll want to RAM your ROM, just quickly turn the darn thing off and run to tell your Mom! Well, that certainly clears things up for me. How about you? Thank you, Bill Gates, for bringing all this into our lives Thank you, LJ for this helpful hint! lololol ********************************************************* Have I mentioned, in the past, I have some weirdly wonderful and wacky friends? Love them all dearly... Makes each day a trip, a new adventure. I start each day with the giggles and end up going to bed with a smile on my face.... Need I mention the Boss man? I sent my usual weather report from the mountains... what did I get in reply? The following... " Don't read below this line." Well, naturally, I was forced to scroll down to see what was below the line! Scroll... scroll, scroll! > > > > "I said, Don't" I fell off the chair... the Boss did a gotcha on me.... Simple mind, simple pleasures... I howled... Climbed into bed... got tickled again... Take care all of mine... go in safety always... Remember to choose or be chosen by good friends.. Even the worst of days go better if you know they are out there waiting to gotcha! Love and many hugs to all of mine... meems

The day of infamy...
I was so little...living in Spokane, WA at the time. I had no idea what a 'War!' was. I just knew it was something really bad.
It didn't take long to learn what it meant to a small child. Oh no, not long at all!
It meant blankets over the windows so no light would show the enenmy where I lived.
It meant no homemade cake... no sugar...
It meant ration stamps... funny looking little things. (Never gave it a thot at the time.. why didn't the government spend that money on the WAR EFFORT?) Another funny (not) thing, we had stamps and plenty of money. There was just nothing to buy.
War meant growing a Victory Garden, canning whatever green beans and tomatoes one could find. Taking pride in growing and storing food.
War meant watching the skies... listening for air raid sirens...Going to bed frightened... Old enuf to be aware but not old enuf to grasp the entirety. I just knew it was a bad thing.
Oh, I learned about WAR in Spokane! I learned from the radio... I learned at the movies... I watched the News Reels... I saw... I still didn't understand why...
I learned friends and neighbors would go to do their duty and I would never see them again....
My Dad was declared 4F and I was ashamed. The fact that we traveled the USA because of his work (contruction) might have had something to do with it, never crossed my mind.
In Lynn, MA, I learned the seas held battleships... I could see them on the horizon sometimes... Oh, I learned.
I learned to wish for peace... I learned about hate and greed and the waste of war.
The following was sent to me by a dear friend who asked me to post it today... I gladly do so... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PEARL HARBOR REFLECTIONS By Rev, Greg Asimakoupoulos
The very month we contemplate The birth of God’s own Son We think of a Hawaiian morn n 1941.
A quiet Sunday many thought Would be a day of rest Became a day of infamy And freedom’s bloody test.
We still recall the sneak attack That forced our hand to fight And those who died unknowingly Beneath a sea of night.
LORD, may we always call to mind The price the brave have paid That we might freely worship You With joy and unafraid. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rest all my dear ones, be at peace. You will never be forgotten.

Take care all of mine... go in safety always.
Love and hugs ... meems
EMOM'S MOUNTAIN NEWS 12/06/2008 posted 8 minutes ago For all of mine ... 2008/12/06 1103 EST Whoooeeeee! When I got up this morning visibility was 10 miles...Now it is down to 1/2 mile at best. Not sure if I'm in the cloud layer or not... But SNOW IS FALLING! Not predicted by the weather service, this snow... Hmmm, maybe they should just do what I do... Look out the window and check to see what the critters are doing! The six pack are giving their all to holding the covers down...ditto for the carpeting! lololol Did you know the rugs will roll up and wrinkle if the bigs dogs are remiss in their duty? I just made that up! lololol ******************************************************* Here is an oldie but goodie from the JC....lolol The following was a holiday standard at WKRC, Cincinnati, done by DJ Jerry Thomas. I would turn the radio up and wrap both ears around it! Didn't want to miss any of it.... Christmas Cake Ingredients: * 2 cups flour * 1 stick butter * 1 cup of water * 1 tsp baking soda * 1 cup of sugar * 1 tsp salt * 1 cup of brown sugar * Lemon juice * 4 large eggs * Nuts * 1 bottle tequila * 2 cups of dried fruit Sample the tequila to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the tequila again to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the tequila is still OK. Try another cup.. Just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 eggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the frigging fruit up off floor.Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the tequila to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Check the tequila. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or some fink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the tequila and wipe counter with the cat. Bingle Jell Author unknown... ********************************************************* Have I mentioned I've been having problems with my digicam? Oh dear... Sure have... LOLOL have gone thru I don't know how many batteries the last day or so...I found the 'book'.... nothing similar in the trouble shooting section.. Nuffin! Hmmmmm! Called Jessie last nite about the problem... Cam will turn on but won't stay on! Well, ratz! I don't read well to begin with... don't know beans about puter or digicams. Well, somewhere in the middle of this confusing and very complicated conversation, The light bulb went off in my brane! lolol (Thank you, OrchidLover...very useful gift) TA DA! I was playing with the buttons on the digicam... I remembered a 2 sec button... I didn't, did I?!? Oh yeah! I had... Cam turns itself off if the 2 second or 5 second buttons are turned on... Well, trust me... the 2 sec button doesn't give enuf time to correct the problem once you have turned cam back on! Am I making any sense at all here?... BTW, Jessie is starting to take on the same tones as Glen when it comes to my puter questions! I am starting to crack up! Jessie decided the correct thing to do would be to take batteries out over nite... temporarily undoing the little memory battery... We hope, anyway...Hang on... let me see if membatt has let go... lolol BRB! YES! IT WORKED! DIGICAM IS BACK! I thank all the digicam gods! (Am I becomeing pagan?!?! Nah! Just covering all bases!) lolol Still snowing... Later all of mine...Remember to give thanks for the good memories.... Hugs and much love.... meems
For all of mine ... 2008/12/05 1019EST
Will wonders never cease? lolol Yup, it's me and I'm up before noon again!
Headed for the kitchen first thing.... Let dogs out/in/out...Hmmmm! Guess they didn't like the cold and frost! lolol Stared out the window of the side door while I waited for the coffee....
Brrrrr! Only 16° out there.. Saw a small herd of Bluebirds flying around the telephone lines...(yes young'uns, there really are blue birds here in the mountains)
I watch the dogs playing tag/gotcha in the field above me... China (big red dog) is chasing the Maxfield! lolol Max is running full out! China is trying to grab Maxfield's tail assembly!
Really presents a picture! Max trying to get away... tail tucked under and running as tho his life depended on it..which it might! Newbie, with rump planted firmly on the ground, grinning and watching the entertainment!
The wrecking crew were cheering on the side lines. Not quite sure for whom! Kinda hard to decifer the doggy subtleties in all the excitement..
Pyggs decided it was too cold out for this kind of early morning nonsense... Came flying up the ramp... Since it didn't seem he was going to slow down, I opened the side door... In he comes....lolol does a sliding stop just before crashing in to far wall!
Makes a left, then a right and down the hall he goes! I assume he was intending to cover dive! lolol
In the meantime, I am still staring out the door! Look up and what do I see this morning? My flyguys up there playing and basket weaving again!
So early? Them brats must get up before breakfast! Gots ta get in their airtime! Go in safety, Loves! Enjoy!
Took me three days to get the kitchen floor done! I'm a lot slower than I used to was! lolol Moved fridge... Stove is on it's own... Next comes the table and counter tops... Have I mentioned before that I hate housework?!? I'm sure I have but I'm old and can repeat myself if I want! So there! Getting tickled here.
Need to get moving! More house work to do... Yucky pucks! Plus I have an idea for a new painting... I am outa here for now!
Take care all of mine... go in safety always...Remember to love yourself and to smile at the world... will make you feel better! Hugs and much love, meems
For all of mine ... 2008/12/04 1043EST
Good sleeping weather today... Oh yeah! Cover dive... take Lily and the Wrecking crew and head for the bed! It's cold out there, 34°, slight wind blowing out of the north and pouring down rain! Wonderful rain!
The pond is rising a little at a time... The fish will survive and I am a happy camper! lololol Don't take much to keep me happy!
I've discovered that an inch of rain equals about a foot of water for the pond. So in the winter months, I can look at the water in the pond instead of the rain gauge.
Heard from the Marv this morning already! LOLOL Poor guy is having problems with his puter again... Pulled a gotcha on the meems and had some serious shopping problems! Seems him is trying to become a permanent member of the Chubby Cheeks Brigade! lolol Gotcha back Brat!
KK is complaining about various and assorted aches and pains. Seems like she hasn't done her water aerobics at the Y for almost two months! lolol The 3D gets no sympathy from me! Not that she expected any!
Did you know that I make the KK nervous? Yup, poor lil ol' innocent me?... sheesh... If she would stay out of trouble, I wouldn't have such a list of goodies to tell on her! gots the giggles now!
You watch! She will make some remark about some unkind photos she has of me... don't know how she got them, but apparantly, if my cam freezes she can take snap shots! Oh lordy! Talk about your 'before' coffee pix! lolol
Looks like the Maxfield is out being taught all of the Newbie's bad habits! I have another paper crumb trail to clean up...All I did was go to the kitchen to fill coffee mug... In that short amount of time, Max had emptied the waste paper basket in the bedroom.
Trust me the Maxfield doesn't need any help from the Newbie in the 'destroy the house' department!
I AM SLEEPY! Gonna take a nap! Later all!
Take care all of mine... go in safety always... Remember, don't ever get a pup named Newbie or one named Maxfield! That way lies madness! lololol
Hugs and much love... meems
