For all of mine ... 2008/23/11 0932EST
Welcome home dear hearts... Welcome home!
Come on in and set a spell...Cold out there today but the sun is shining for all it's worth! Help selves to coffee and stuff while I finish getting dressed!
Last nite was a rough nite... Wouldn't have had a bit of trouble though had the 7 pack left me alone! I have been stomped on, jumped over, trampled on, nudged, booted and beaten! I was slurped, curled up on, had feet, knees and elbows in my belly button!
The Max stood/walked on my hair (this will get your attention right away!) Lily was curled up behind my neck, grumbling and fussing ... Spud was zonked out snoring in my ear... Then China climbed in... The wrecking crew was under the covers and curled up behind my knees!
Max, apparently, couldn't find a comfy spot. Oh dear, Poor lil feller, it does get a little crowded some nites! lolol ******************* Here is the latest article from Coconut Wireless to Emom’s Mountain News…Newsflash on BBB (Bamboo Bulletin Board) this a.m. read as follows. SATURDAY…Local Mountain Woman’s retreat slowly morphing into “LoMoWo Dogvilleâ€Â. Attachment/dependency- disorder has spread throughout. No longer do commands such as “Come hereâ€Â…â€ÂSitâ€Â… “Down…“Stopâ€Â…or “NO…OMG NO!†apply to Six Pack + 1. Advice has been given. “In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn’t merely try to train him to be semi human. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog.†Meems has told adviser she is considering the suggestion.
Thank you, Donna (Jas2maui), my only (so far) roving reporter! lolol **********************
I think I am going to go back to sleep for a while! NAP TIME for the emom!
Later all of mine! Take care, go in safety always. Remember to enjoy the sun while it shines... and to remember the sunshine when it doesn't... Hugs and much love to all.... meems

Well Kids, I don't know whether to head for the FOS or leave the Country totally!
I just read the daughter's blog which was posted about a week ago! This blog has sumfin to do with politics and maybe the electoral process and and and... lolol
Somehow, I believe if I should peek over her shoulder while she was looking in the mirror, I would see two of me looking back! This is a scary thing! Why? Well, let me tell you!
MeSneakUpOnRocks has a brilliant mind! lolol And a memory like an elephant! Oh yeah! LOLOL I am cracking up here! Not because of the subject matter, but because of the personality behind it!
I don't pretend to have all Bobbi's abilities but chilluns, let me tell you in plain and simple words... Don't mess with her! lololol
I've told friends and enemies alike... Don't mess with the emom! Mess with the emom? You will learn the hard way that my children, in concert, are a lot more dangerous than the emom will ever be! I don't know if that's a compliment to my young'uns or not. However, it is the truth! lololol
Well, remember me talking about the Korean War MIA's and Ellis Thompson, 1st Cavalry.. from Owsley County? I found his living 78 year old sister! She lives with her daughter not too far from me. She is willing to give a DNA sample to help ID her brother's remains.
Starting on Monday, I will glue the telephone to my left ear, get geared up, and prepare to do battle with the VA again! I had hoped to get Ellis home before Christmas but I guess that is too much to hope for. Maybe by next year...
I need to say that the people answering the VA phones are good and dedicated people who truly want to help. The fact that some are dealing with outdated material is NOT their fault.... This problem goes right to the top and rolls downhill from there! I have worked with and for different government agencies myself! I know how difficult it is to get a hard and fast (glued) answer/info. Basic rule of thumb? Get it in writing!
Back to the Cards/gifts for mine... If it worked last year (sending the cards, etc.) continue to do the same. If this is a first year attempt... contact your VA hospital to see how they want it handled! Good luck all! I'll keep working on this also.
Dogs! Dave48 says I now have a 7 pack? Jas2Maui says I am working on a 12 pack! Please no! I don't think even I could do 12 critters... especially since I don't have an automatic door opener on the back door! lolol
These rotten critters rolled me out at 0300 hours... Outside MOM OUTSIDE! Now, it would be one thing if they all went out the door at the same time! However, they some want out right away... some must ponder the situation and then decide Yup, maybe we should go 'outside' for a few. Now, thinking everybody's been in and out, I start headin for the beddin. Then I hear the yodeling of a very small unmade bed type dog. Oh yeah, it's the Lilyputz... Outside, MOM! I trundle down the hall to the kitchen...open the back door and 3 dogs go out! Does anybody agree that I am fighting a losing battle here? lolol
Well, ratz... wait a minute... sneezes!
Sheesh! I think that's over!
Anyway... I have more paper in the hall way, had to rescue my diary, pick up more pop carton shreds and fight my way out from under the covers. I, for the first time in many a moon, shut the bathroom door! Seven dogs and the meems do not all fit in the bathroom at the same time.. Even if I am in the tub, there still isn't enuf room! Is this too personal?... Well, maybe ... but it is the truth!
Gots to play with the paintbrushes today... Inside the canvas lies my very own world... I can do as I will and the outside world ceases to exist! I recover from the bad inside that world. Instead of dealing with chaos, I find peace.
Guess that's it for the time being... I think! Gonna try to stay out of trouble today but it is early yet! lolol
Take care all of mine... Go in safety always... Remember to be careful on the shady side of the mountain... The road there is almost always slippery!
For all of mine ... 2008/21/2008 0919EST
Mornin' everybody! I am hanging on to coffee mug with both hands... Can't afford to let it get away from me this AM! Hot coffee equals warm body! lololol
Late last nite, when I let the 6 pack + 1 outside, I found the ground covered with SNOW! Snow was falling! I love the snow! Hand down, snow is the most beautiful sight when it falls at nite.
The security light's not near the same as the moon shining but in a snowfall, it works almost as well. A fairy land out there... Diamonds falling from the sky.
The dogs were too funny! Weren't too sure about this stuff piling up on the ground... all except the Newbie. The Newbie takes one look...ambles down the ramp...hangs a left...Stands there for a few while surveying the landscape...
The next thing I know, he is taking a doggie bath! lolol Snow was flying all over him! He rolled on his back and wiggled... flopped on his side... rubbed nose and ears in it...I'm telling ya, when he got finished, he was one clean dog!
While Newbs was taking his bath, the Wrecking Crew had finally made up their minds that this stuff just might be ok! They started playing gotcha tag.
Lily, who is an old hand at this snow stuff, just grumbled and trundled on... Her don't like to get her feet wet to begin with.... Snow is wet AND cold... lol Let's get this 'outside' business over and get back into the nice warm house! Sheesh! She triple timed it up the side ramp into kitchen! I cracked up...
I especially watched the Maxfield and laffed all the harder! Him had obviously never seen/been in snow before! Hmmm... feet are cold and wet...fluffy stuff falling all around and on him....The expressions on his face said it all! Him had no clue about this new white carpeting! Got the giggles now!
Now, for all of you who may wonder if I get any exercise... Oh yeah! The Max is as good as any treadmill and doesn't take up near as much room! Not only is he quick, he is also sneaky!
I am minding my own business last nite...I hear a rattle of something and hear the thunder of medium small paws racing down the hall towards the kitchen... Oh oh! Nothing to do but get up and see what the Max has gotten into now! How bout he has taken the liner from the waste paper basket? I now have a paper 'crumb' trail to follow as I go after the Max!
I round the kitchen door and there he is! In the middle of a pile cardboard/scrap papers and cigarette butts! Cleaning is not quite what I had in mind to be doing so late in the evening! Him was just a smiling at the emom! I truly believe Max thinks his name is 'NO!'... lolol What have I done?!? Don't answer that!
I know what I WILL be doing! Playing 52 gazillion pick up! And y'all worry about me getting exercise? lolol I don't think so!
Take care all of mine! Go in safety always...
Hugs and much love... meems

Welcome home dear hearts, welcome home! Come on in a set a spell! Help yourselves to some coffee while I get dressed.. Then we can go over to Andy's Place and give him a hard time! Oh yeah!
MAIL/PACKAGES TO OUR MILITARY...Sorry about the following:
There ain't no rhyme nor reason to the handling of mail/gifts being sent thru the mail! One person says "this", another says "that"...
Now, I didn't expect to make any sense of all the rules and regs in a week's time....but I thot I could find some sort of standards. Nope, nada, zilch, no way, ain't gonna happen! Three full lifetimes wouldn't be enuf to work your way thru this mess.
If it has worked in the past for you, then keep it up. I would advise each and every one of you to check with your local post master or VA office for the latest updates...
The best and most reliable information can be found in VNV under the first 'heads up' thread. Read TCornish's posts and check the links he has included.
Well, I checked with our Post Master, Gary DeBord. WOWSER! He is one of MINE! YES! And to think I've been playing with his earlobe for 10 years or better and just now finding that out! LOLOL
Gary was in Nam....Forward Gunners mate on the PBR Whitley County... Navy...68-74. Thank you Dear heart!
This does not mean that I am going to be nice to the poor man! If I were to change to a 'nice' person and not tease him, it would scare him to death!
WAY TO GO KK! The "Who Are We thread" in The Beat Goes On group had 10 booms the other day. Turns out most of the "boomers" were members of the Eons Team . . . now how about them apples?! Does this mean I have to be nice to the KK too? Hmmm! I don't like the looks of this 'nice' business! lolol
More KK stuff! Roflmao! The two of us were IMing last nite.. and I sort of started a snowball fight! lolol (When you go to the fancy backgrounds in IM, some have their own sounds! Winter scene has a splat sound of a wet snowball hitting window!) I was hysterical and KK, I am sure, thot I had lost my mind! But she threw some snowballs back anyway! lolol The longer this make believe battle continued, the funnier it got...
I cried, couldn't breathe, turned blue, held my sides, pounded fists, screamed, whooped and hollered! And worse yet, KK says she has put "Vanilla" at the top of her Christmas Wish list!
I am out of here for the time being... The world awaits and the new neighbors have a bull dozer going in the second field above me! Dogs are all on the west side of the house...watching and discussing the handling of the dozer! Also... guarding house and watching intruders that just might come rolling down hill from the new people! lolol Am I safe here or what?!?!
Take care all of mine...go in safety always...Always be careful when you IM someone... You just might get 'splatted' with a snow ball!
Hugs and much love... meems

Grumble.. mumble... fuss... complain..! I was just getting ready to crawl back under the covers when Lily decides she needs to go outside! It is way before breakfast and I am NOT a happy camper at the moment! lolol I am looking around for somebody to blame for this! lolol Any volunteers? Now, I am laffing at myself!
Trust me, that lil unmade bed of a dog won't be outside too long....It's 20° out there right now and a nice steady breeze is blowing! Can you say: freeze your tail assembly?
Yup, I was right... Lily was outside for all of 5 minutes! lolol The lil lady does not like icicles on her tail feathers at all!
Well, the 6 pack + 1 are all in and down for the count! Some are holding the covers down. The rest are making sure the carpeting stays on the floor and doesn't escape!
Now let me tell you about Maxfield! I thought Newbie was an interesting pup? Honeys, he ain't nothing compared to the Max! That is a good name for him, by the way. He does everything full out and to the max! Him is the cutest lil feller...lolol but boy does he get into everything!
Paper towels, papers, steals stuff from the desk top in here... empties the trash (burnable papers/boxes) and drags it all over the back half of the house. Yesterday, I heard paper tearing and some thumping. I go to check!
OMG! He has drug a full pop carton out to the hall way, shredded box and now the hall is filled with full cans of pop! I pound my head against the wall! This does not help!
Then yesterday afternoon... for some reason, I looked out the east window of the apartment... A blue car had stopped between the curves below the house... and Max was running up the the vehicle! The big dogs were right behind him...I went flying out the back door and started whistle calling all of the dogs... I watched until I could see Max wilth the rest of the pack. All heading home. I came back in and before I could get back here to the apartment, the vehicle was gone.
My opinion? If I had not looked out the window at that moment, I would now be missing a puppy. I've already had 3 dogs taken that way by dog thieves, ain't gonna let it happen again if I can help it!
Next time I see sumfin similar going on, I will fire a round thru the window screen! Yup, sure will! I need another hole in that screen anyway!
Let's see here... latest gossip says the new neighbors will start working on their property today. Start the drive way and have the trailers in and pretty much set up by the weekend. The fun part starts when they try to have the electic, water and the septic systems put in! Need to have the septic system in place and inspected before you can have the temp electric installed! The water and septic systems need to be placed where the inspector says they should go. The septic system and the water lines need to be inspected by the same guy who is scheduled to be here only one day a week. (depending on the weather, if you get my drift)
Every thing moves at its own pace here in the mountains... It don't pay to get upset or frustrated with the delays or no-shows! lolol Don't do ya a bit of good cause it don't change a thing! lolol
I am planning to stay away from the phone today if I can! It's getting to the point where I need to glue the receiver to my ear! It'll make me tilt to the left a little but life might be simpler. LOLOL Just go with the flow Paula, just go with the flow!
OK, I've done it again... have 'tomorrow' written on my note pad! Well, today is tomorrow now and I have no idea what it means! Also have 'Friday' in a separate box right under tomorrow! Don't know what that means either! lolol
I'm going back to bed! NOW!
Later all of mine... Take care and go in safety always! The new neighbors have no idea what they are in for... and don't you guys tell 'em either!
Hugs and much love... meems
For all of mine ... 2008/18/11 1223EST
I know I am running late, but I have been burning up the telephone wires...I've called hospitals, KY's State Representative in Congress, the Post Office here in town. Can you say: conflicting information?
The rumors are rampant on the internet...To the burning of mail/cards sent to the rumor that all mail will be returned to sender...or not!
TCornish has posted excellent info in the HEADS UP thread VNV. Might want to go there and book mark the addys (urls) for future reference!
Hospitals: Walter Reed wants mail sent to the Red Cross Address.
Lexington KY Medical Center, asks that all mail to 'any military patient' be sent to:VOLUNTEER SERVICES(#135) at: 1101 Cooper St. Lexington KY 40502
I spoke to Troy, a lovely Southern gentleman at Lex VA Med Center this morning. Troy suggested that gift phone cards be sent so the guys and gals could call their families... These are good gifts any time of the year!
I could use some help here, good people! We need to compile a list of the the VA hospitals and how they want their mail addressed for our guys and gals....
This part hasn't even scratched the surface yet... It seems each VA hosp. has its own requirements for receiving this type of mail.
If y'all want to get the correct address from your nearest VA hosp, it sure would help. Send it to me and I will try to con somebody into setting up a Site on here... Any and all help and suggestions will be appreciated.
!!!!!!!!!!HEAD'S UP ON THIS!!!!!!!!!
ALL MAIL, etc., MUST BE SENT BEFORE DECEMBER 10, 2008 or it will be returned to sender.
So far the information about mailing is for cards, gift cards and mail INSIDE the USA only.
The out of country- USA...To In country/down range hasn't even been touched yet! TC honey, I don't know how you do it! I have never seen such an ungodly mess in my life...
We'll just do the best we can here to help get the correct and verified info out as soon as we possible can! Maybe by this time next year... we might have a base of needed information... and in alphabetical order!
Urban Legend:( Sorry, don't mean to abuse a possibly trademarked title):
SEARS, Inc. Yes, it is true! Sears does support our military and does hold the active military employees jobs for them! Sears also has a program which benefits/assists the veteran's families at home. (There is paper work and needed periodic updating) Donations to assist the military families can be made at your local Sears Store.
This info came from a very polite young lady, Jacquiline, at the Sears Offices at the Fayetteville KY Mall. Way to go Sears! And Thank you Jackie!
Can I take a nap now?
Had dry powder snow on the side door ramp this morning! lolol And I do mean dry... No slip n sliding on that stuff! 26 degrees and a ten mile an hour breeze out of the north!
Man oh man! My brain is fried! Addled! Scrambled! Poached and generally confused! I hope I have made sense.
Sorry this isn't my usual 'devil may care' attitude! I just feel that it is important to remember, recognize and thank ALL of mine who gave so much!
Remember Dec 10, 2008, is the cut off date for mailings to our guys...
Take care dear hearts... welcome home... go in safety always. Torment the heck out of somebody today... get the giggles... and DO give somebody a big hug! love and Hugs .... meems
UPDATED INFORMATION ON OUR HOSPITALIZED AND RECOVERING MILITARY!
At 1812EST, this date, I px'd Walter Reed Hospital and spoke to a delightful young woman named Lela. Lela was extremely helpful!
The following is the correct address to which any holiday card and gifts for the our soldiers should be sent to:
TO A RECOVERING AMERICAN SOLDIER RED CROSS HOLIDAY MAIL CALL P O BOX 5456 CAPITOL HEIGHTS MD 20791
This is a link to all other military personnel ... installations and hospitals: http://www.AmericaSupportsYou.com
Per Lela, Walter Reed Hosp. receives thousands of letters and cards. Their post office is not able to handle all the mail. This is why items should be sent to the Red Cross address...
Paula Rice, Moderator...Viet Nam Vets group Manager ... Welcome home Vietnam Vets
I have a phone number if wanted... just pm me...
2008/17/11 1042EST
Talk about your broken field running! Sheesh! I had critters, paper towels, wash cloths, newspapers, tracing paper, contents of the waste paper basket all over the back of the house, whole telephone strung all over the apartment floor! Can you say: off the hook?!? lolol
This is what I found when I returned from a trip to the grocery store yesterday! lolol And, trust me, you haven't lived until you've received a pack greeting! "MOM'S HOME!" from the 6 pack + 1 ... lol It's amazing that the numbers increase exponentially with the excitement generated by the arrival of the emom! lolol It's a wonder I survive!
Another Sheesh....The prices at the store were outrageous! OMG! I bought nohing more nor less than when I first moved here 10 years ago...Then, the same amount of food cost around $50... Yesterday, It was $244.++. Well, I shouldn't complain...it will last till the end of December maybe... Then will come the BIG bill ... the 3 month supply to cover the bad months. Just in case I am frozen in this winter....
When I came out of the grocery store yesterday the temp had dropped to 32 and the wind had picked up. Now, I thot I was dressed warmly enuf when I left home but boy! Was I wrong again? Oh yeah! Let's just say I didn't worry about the frozens thawing on the way home... Nope, now way!
Let's see what else! The phone is still ringing off the wall... I am still looking for Ellis Marshall's family here in Owsley county... He is one of mine from the Korean War... a MIA... I hope I can bring him home. Nothing so far... I've checked with on funeral home and they are too new to the area to have records that far back. That's ok ... I am a stubborn old war horse! I will keep looking...
Thanksgiving is on the way... Guess what! Marv has been designated Turkey Of The Year! ROFLMAO... Way to go, Ladies! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy! They gotcha Brat and so did I! So there! lololol
Oh... in VNV is the funniest YouTube clip... Check under the 'USS MONTANA" ... I laffed til I cried! lolol
Puter problems again but this time I managed to muddle through and get it straightened out all by my self! Amazing what sheer stubborn can do for you!
I lost all of my YouTube messages from friends and comments in my Guest Book... All because of something called Adobe Flash Player... AFP was missing... Well, I wrote down the instructions and this time was able to follow... and I FIXED THE PROBLEM! LOLOL Now this is a biggy for me! I have very little logic in my brain and I know zilch about puter stuff! I have also put my arm out of commission... Patting self on back at my age is not always a good idea! lololol I did it anyway!
Well, I am off and running again... The sun is peeking thru the racing clouds on occasion...but the wind is still blowing. I am safe and warm in here with the dogs! Listening to soft and gentle waltz again. To Touch The Sky from the CD Chrysallis...
Later all of mine.... take care and go in safety always! Remember to smile and think of the good times. Love and many hugs...Meems
For all of mine ... 2008/16/11 0931EST
Well Kids I guess I didn't get rid of the blog problem. I guess after today, I will just leave it as is. The phrase "For all of mine" will from now on will be the opening for all future News. You'll need to check the date for the latest edition... Sorry, don't know how to fix it!
I tried to fix problems last nite with a brick! Shuckey darns! Din't work! And then somehow, I managed to lose all the Youtubes on Eons... and the widgets (or gadgets or whatever you call them) Since the brick didn't work, I went looking for a concrete block! Found same! Drug block back her to the apartment! Plopped it down right in front of the tower and said... NOW! WORK! OR ELSE! After two hours of fussing with puter, the tower got the message and straightened right up... Sort of! lolol
I do the same thing to trees and bushes and stuff I plant! NOW! GROW! OR I WILL CUT YOUR ROOTS OFF! Amazing how quickly them growing things respond to 'tough love'! Truth is, I have planted Christmas trees all over the city of Hamilton that are still growing...
Every year, the youngin's and I would dig the hole in preparation for the new live tree... cover the dirt with a small tarp...
The house itself would be full of all kinds of decorations...and candles and smell good branches...and small decorated artificial trees. Candy canes and stockings...
On Thanksgiving day, the first Christmas item unpacked and set up was Phil's Security Tree... AS long as that little white tree was sitting there in a prominant spot, peace in the house reigned supreme! LOLOL Such fond memories... Little white tree stayed until New Year's Day.
Now, back to the 'live' tree... Live tree would be brought in one week before Christmas...Set up in a tub that had 3 bricks placed in the bottom... then tree... then an old towel ... water poured in till it came to the top level of the bricks. One end of the towel strip dropped into the water... the other end wrapped high up on the rootball. Cover all (the tub and the root ball) with plastic. Osmosis and the plastic will keep the root system moist.
On Christmas day, the Live tree would be taken down... outside, placed in the hole and covered up...eMom was in the house fixing the turkey and all the goodies for the big dinner!
Well, my one daughter has continued this tradition of live tree. And when Phil married his loving and patient wife, I gave them the White security tree! Another tradition...I would read the story of the Baby Jesus...I would tell them the story of the Christmas tree and where it originally came from. We would Talk about all the traditions involved in the Christmas Season.... From the ancient times to the modern. We have Kwanza and Hanukah. The Great Spirit. The Maker! God is still god, no matter what name we give him.
I remember the years we placed the permanent (as opposed to live) holiday tree in the playpen. I can't tell you how many times German Shepherd pup and a mature Siamese cat deposited decorated tree on the love seat! Nor how many ornaments the dog ate after the cat removed them from the tree... or how many times I hauled the cat from the top of the Tree! Not to be sacriligeous or anything, but I think the Angel at the top should be replaced by a kitty! At least for one day... lololol Anybody with critters knows what I am talking about...Oh, I miss those days!
Gee whiz, everybody... Have no idea where this came from today... Maybe it would have been better to save it for closer to Christmas... Here it is anyway... This is another thing to be thanking our veterans for....
Later all of mine! Go in safety always ... Drag out the good memories and look at them like you would the photos in a scrap book. No good ones? Then make your own good ones...and smile fondly! hugs and love meems
