REMINDERS FROM GOD:

"A wonderful future is ahead. Just be channels of My Peace and Love. Be used by Me."-- GOD

Ephesians 6:1
(1) Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

  Ephesians 6:4
(4) And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

The context obviously addresses children and parents. Paul makes it clear that children have a responsibility before God and that keeping the commandment has definite benefits for them to anticipate receiving. This is in agreement with Deuteronomy 4:39-40.
One of the benefits he mentions is the prospect of long life, which also contains an implication of prosperity. Not the least of the additional benefits is the gradual development of understanding and wisdom garnered from the parents, which themselves help to produce long life and prosperity. Thus, in an overall sense, he is reminding children that obedience to truth has its rewards.
Is there an age at which or a circumstance under which the child's responsibility to honor his parents undergoes a change? The answer is both "Yes" and "No," which is why Paul qualifies his charge to children. His qualification is contained within the phrase "in the Lord." It connotes what is within the boundaries of the Lord's way. In all cases, the responsibility to honor one's parents diminishes when a child marries, and his first attention must be given to the spouse. Cleaving to the spouse trumps the honoring of parents. Paul qualifies this a step further by implying that, if the parents demand submission beyond the bounds of Christian conduct, that is, not "in the Lord"—such as commanding a child to give up the Sabbath, lie in their behalf, steal for them, or bow down to an idol—in such cases the child's choice should be to submit to Christ rather than to his parents. Submitting to God's commands trumps submitting to parent's commands that are beyond what God commands us to do in order to stay "in the Lord."

Removing Newspaper Ink Off Clothes
By Heloise

Q:  Please tell me how to get newspaper ink off clothes. I used to help my daughter with a paper route, and ruined some sweatshirts.

A:  Newspaper ink can be tricky to remove — I know because I read a lot of newspapers! Here's my method: Turn the garment inside out, and squirt some dishwashing detergent that's formulated to cut grease onto the back of the stained area and work it in with your fingers. Let this set for five minutes; scrub the back with an old toothbrush. Then, wash it in the hottest water safe for the clothes; don't put into the dryer until the stain is gone. It may take a few tries.

Table Manners
A man and woman were having
dinner in a fine restaurant. They were gazing lovingly at
each other and holding hands. Their waitress, taking another
order at a table a few steps away, suddenly noticed the man
slowly sliding down his chair and under the table, but the
 woman acted unconcerned.
The waitress watched as the man slid all the way down his
chair and out of sight under the table.
Still, the woman appeared calm and unruffled, apparently
unaware her dining companion had disappeared.
The waitress went over to the table and said to the woman,
"Pardon me, ma'am, but I think your husband just slid under
 the table."
The woman calmly looked up at her and said, "No, he
 didn't. He just walked in."

For all those who think the Sun shines out of Jack's bottom end....

The basic facts are as follows.
Layton and his wife Olivia Chow both sat on Toronto City Council for years before making the move to federal politics. While on City Council, they were making $100,000 a year. They used a fraudulent scheme to get into subsidized housing. What they did was register the house in the name of Chow's mother who was an unemployed immigrant. In this way, they lived for years in a taxpayer funded house while being paid $100,000 yearly from taxpayers. They only moved when a reporter exposed the story.
The real irony is that Chow styled herself as an advocate for the homeless on City Council.
It astounds me that the media never mention this. It was theft, pure and simple.
Today, Layton and Chow earn $350,000 together as MPs. They each get a housing allowance for living in Ottawa although they live together. According to House of Commons records for 2010, they spent one million dollars last year on travel and perks. Because they're MP's there is no detail. When asked, Layton said that most of it was for travel back to Toronto to visit their constituents. That comes out to $20,000 a week for travel. Toronto is 300 miles from Ottawa. Again, it's theft, pure and simple.
But speaking of simple, NDP loyalists see Jack and Olivia as the working man's friends. The simplistic media play up this image. Simplistic Canadians give Jack a free ride on trust.
Now the other night during the big debate Jack had the nerve to say we don't need more jails because all the crooks are already in the Senate. I think we better make Jack a Senator!
Cheers.     Thanks to Saint Jack its costing millions for this election !!!!  Think before you vote ...............

TODAYS PET TIP:

A Fishy Solution To Itchy Skin

Healthy skin is important.  It protects your pet from injury and infection, helps control body temperature, insulates your pet from temperature changes, and acts as a reservoir for important nutrients.
But when your dog's skin is dry, some of these functions are not performed adequately. And dry skin can be very itchy, uncomfortable and annoying for your dog.
Here's a great way to help keep your dog's skin healthy - salmon oil.
Salmon oil is naturally rich in essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which have many great health benefits. In addition to boosting the body's immune system and improving the cardiovascular and nervous systems, these fatty acids improve your dog's skin and coat.
Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are beneficial nutrients that are naturally founds in foods like fish and mussels.  Most pet foods don't include these essential fatty acids, so adding a good salmon oil supplement to your dog's diet is a great way to help keep your dog healthy.

1. A wife gets naked and asks her hubby: "What turns you on more, my pretty
face or my  sexy body?"

Hubby looks her up and down and replies: "Your sense of  humor!"

2. The wife came home early and found her husband in their bedroom making love
to a very attractive young woman.  And she was somewhat upset.

'You are a disrespectful pig!' she cried. 'How dare you do this to me --
a faithful wife, the mother of your children!   I'm leaving you. I want a
divorce right away!'

And the husband replied, 'Hang on just a minute love so at least I can tell
you what happened.'

'Fine, go ahead,' she sobbed,' but they'll be the last words you'll say to me!'

And the husband began --

'Well, I was getting into the car to drive home, and this young lady here
asked me for a lift. She looked so down and out and defenseless that I took
pity on her and let her into the car.   I noticed that she was very thin,
not well dressed and very dirty.  She told me that she hadn't eaten for
three days.   So, in my compassion, I brought her home and warmed up the
enchiladas I made for you last night, the ones you wouldn't eat because
you're afraid you'll put on weight. The poor thing devoured them in
moments.   Since she needed a good clean-up, I suggested a shower, and
while she was doing that, I noticed her clothes were dirty and full of
holes, so I threw them away.   Then, as she needed clothes, I gave her the
designer jeans that you have had for a few years, but don't wear because
you say they are too tight.   I also gave her the underwear that was your
anniversary present, which you don't wear because I don't have good taste.
I found the sexy blouse my sister gave you for Christmas that you don't
wear just to annoy her, and I also donated those boots you bought at the
expensive boutique and don't wear because someone at work has a pair the
same.'

The husband took a quick breath and continued -
'She was so grateful for my understanding and help that as I walked her to
the door, she turned to me with tears in her eyes and said, 'Please ... Do
you have anything else that your wife doesn't use?'

REMINDERS FROM GOD:

What Is Real?

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment … Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."1

King Duncan of Sermons.com shared how his pastor told about a young female soldier who wrote home to her parents about a young man she was attracted to. "Of course," she said, "since we are not allowed to wear makeup, he has no idea how I really look."

Oh?

It's incredible, at least in the Western world, how much value we place on physical beauty. But as we all know, outward beauty has little to do with the character of the person or whether they are real or not.

In the wonderful children's story, "The Velveteen Rabbit," by Margery Williams, the Rabbit asked the old Skin Horse the baffling question, "What is real?" To the stuffed rabbit, according to the boasting of the other toys, being real had something to do with being impressive and captivating.

But as the wise Skin Horse answered, "Real isn't how you are made. It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real, you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

Need I say more?

Suggested prayer: "Dear God, please help me to become real and beautiful on the inside, knowing that these are of great worth to you. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus' name, amen."

James 5:16
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

TO DO WITH -  LIVING WITH CHRONIC PAIN

Pain is a signal that the body is giving that something is out of alignment.  It is not in and of itself “bad” – it just is.  It is a message – a form of communication – and many times it is a great gift for it keeps us from doing something that would create great harm to the body (ie put our fingers in the flame and hold them there).

Our minds however like to tell us that pain is a bad thing – that it is to be judged and avoided and resisted and treated – and this resistance to our body’s attempt to communicate with us creates an environment of stress within the body – which creates more resistance – which results in more pain – which increases our resistance, which…

Well – you get the idea…..

Pain does not create suffering.  All suffering comes from a resistance to what is – including a resistance to pain.

Sit with what I am saying – and if  the mind is “yeah butting” what I am writing – sit with it some more…

If you are willing the following exercise will give you a taste for what I am writing about….

Take a few breathes and center yourself.  Allow yourself to sink into your body and really feel what it feels like in this moment.

Don’t try to change anything – just notice what is there now.

Get in touch with the pain being experienced in this moment.

Don’t rate it or judge  – just sit with it.

Watch it as you breath in and out.  Say hello to it.

For just the time of this exercise stop trying to get rid of it – stop trying to change it in anyway.

Notice the pain’s ebb and flow as you breath in and out.  Get curious about the pain and see if you can identify where it is centered.

You will notice as you work with this level of awareness that your body naturally begins to relax.  Your shoulders will drop and the muscles in your legs will open and soften.  You don’t have to do anything to make it happen – it will just occur naturally as you continue to sit quietly – with friendly curiosity – with the pain.

It is possible that as you continue to sit with the sensations in your body emotions will show up – or old stories – or judgements about yourself or the world.  If this happens just watch them – again with curiosity – but DO NOT try to find meaning in them.  They are “energy forms” that were trapped in your physical form – and as you rest and allow and let go of resistance you are in essence allowing this old gunk (that you don’t need anymore) to be released.

It is very important that you have no expectation when you do this work.  Any expectation will creates it’s own stress environment and will hinder the process.  Just relax and breath – say hello – open and allow – and watch with a friendly sense of curiosity.

One final note.  It is possible that the emotions that come up while doing this work can be strong ones – and they can – at least momentarily – feel difficult to handle.   Knowing that it is all just old stuff on it’s way out can go a long way towards easing this process (or even making it fun ) but if you are concerned or begin to experience something you don’t feel you can handle then working with a high vibrational energy worker who can hold the space for you can be really beneficial – especially when you first begin this work and don’t know what it feels like when the body begins to let go of the emotions and stories it has been holding.

Trust yourself – and the process – know that it is all good – and keep smiling.

SERVINGS 8

INGREDIENTS

Cream Filling
2     large eggs
1 1/2     cups milk
1/3     cup granulated sugar
2     tablespoons cornstarch
1/8     teaspoon salt
2     teaspoons vanilla

Cake
Baking spray with flour to grease pan
1 1/4     cups all-purpose flour or 1 1/2 cups cake flour
1     cup granulated sugar
1/3     cup butter or margarine, room temperature
3/4     cup milk
1 1/2     teaspoons baking powder
1     teaspoon vanilla
1/2     teaspoon salt
1     large egg

Chocolate Icing
3     tablespoons butter or margarine
3     oz unsweetened baking chocolate
3     to 4 tablespoons water
1     cup powdered sugar
3/4     teaspoon vanilla

1 Place an egg separator over a small bowl. Crack open 1 egg over the egg separator to seperate the yolk from the white; then separate the other egg. (Save the whites for another recipe.) In a small bowl, place the yolks. Beat the egg yolks with a fork or wire whisk until mixed. Stir in 1 1/2 cups milk; set aside.
2 In a 2-quart saucepan, stir 1/3 cup granulated sugar, the cornstarch and 1/8 teaspoon salt until mixed. Gradually stir egg mixture into sugar mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute; remove from heat. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla. Press plastic wrap on surface of filling to prevent a tough layer from forming on top. Refrigerate at least 2 hours until set but no longer than 24 hours. While filling is chilling, continue with recipe.
3 Heat the oven to 350°F. Spray just the bottom of a 9-inch round cake pan with the baking spray.
4 In a large bowl, beat all cake ingredients with an electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, stopping frequently to scrape batter from side and bottom of bowl with a rubber spatula. Beat on high speed 3 minutes, stopping occasionally to scrape bowl. Pour batter into the pan; use a rubber spatula to scrape batter from bowl, spread batter evenly in pan and smooth top of batter.
5 Bake about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool cake in pan on a cooling rack 20 minutes, then remove onto cooling rack to finish cooling completely, about 1 hour.
6 In a 1-quart saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons butter and the chocolate over low heat, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, in 1-cup glass measuring cup, microwave the water uncovered on High 15 to 30 seconds or until hot. Remove chocolate mixture from heat. Stir in the powdered sugar and 3/4 teaspoon vanilla. Stir in 3 tablespoons hot water. Stir in additional water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until icing is smooth and thin enough to spread.
7 To split cake horizontally in half, mark middle points around side of cake with toothpicks. Using toothpicks as a guide, cut through the cake with a long, sharp knife, using a back-and-forth motion. On a serving plate, place bottom layer with the cut side up. Spread filling over bottom layer. Top with top of cake, cut side down.
8 Spread glaze over top of cake, using a metal spatula or back of a spoon, letting some glaze drizzle down side of cake. Refrigerate uncovered until serving. Store any remaining cake covered in the refrigerator.

REMINDERS FROM GOD:

"Healing for all physical, mental, and spiritual ills you can always find in being with Me." -- GOD

Left Behind at God's Last Trumpet Call

The Bible says: "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever."1

I was only a child at the time—about eight or nine—but it was so painful I've never forgotten it. It was the Christmas season and my parents took me and my older sister to a church (where we sometimes attended) for their annual Sunday School Christmas tree celebration. Every child there received a gift from the tree; that is, every child except me. I felt totally left out and very sad. Only one person noticed that I was left out and said anything to me. This kind man (I still remember his name), Mr. Norsworthy, cared and gave me a two-shilling coin which was a very  valuable gift to me at that time.

Many of us remember, too, when we were kids and were not chosen to be on a team how badly we felt, and again when friends were invited to a party, and we weren't. As young adults most of us at one time or another felt rejected by someone of the opposite sex whom we had a crush on. At the time it was very painful. And what is more painful than, when married, being rejected by the one who promised to love us until death do we part. Feeling rejected or feeling left out can be devastating.

The day is coming when time, as we know it, will no longer be. This will be when Jesus Christ returns to earth, as he promised, to take all his true followers to be with him in Heaven forever. I don't know how to emphasize enough the need for making sure that you are ready for Christ's return. To be left behind at this time would be the most devastating experience known to mankind. As Jesus reminded us, "Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left."2

A final reminder from God's Word: "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever."1

As James Black wrote in his popular hymn, "When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more, And the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair; When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore, And the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there."

When God's last Trumpet Call sounds, will you be ready? What if it were today? If you are not absolutely sure that you would be ready, I urge you to receive Jesus Christ as your Savior and receive God's forgiveness today.

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
- Isaiah 1:18

TODAY'S PET TIP

Choosing Good Toys for Your Dog
There are many different types and styles of dog toys to choose from. Do you know which your dog would like best?
To figure this out...consider how your dog likes to play.
What activity does he like most?
Is he a chewer? Does he like to fetch? Or does he like to play tug-of-war? Maybe your dog is a cuddler and likes snuggling up to soft plush animals?
Dogs just love toys that squeak. I've heard this from dog owners over and over again. For example, some dogs will go crazy for their squeaky toys until they actually chew them up and pull out the squeaker. After the toy no longer squeaks - they no longer want to play with it. This is common.
So why do dogs like toys that squeak?
Our theory goes back to nature. When dogs hunted for prey, they would hunt and kill. Their prey would squeak or make noises, which allowed the dogs to find their prey. This was part of their natural hunting instinct. Once caught, the prey made noises as the dog proceeded with the kill, which can be very satisfying to a hungry dog.
A squeaky toy can give a dog the same type of satisfaction.
In addition, toys give dogs interaction that stimulates their mind, keeps them busy and satisfies their chewing instinct.
If you give your dogs squeaky toys, it is important that the toys are durable. Ingestion of toy parts, including the squeaker, can cause life-threatening situations if dogs ingest them.

Mâche & Chicken Salad with Honey-Tahini Dressing

In this salad, mâche is tossed with spring ingredients—new red-skinned potatoes and fresh peas—and a lemony tahini dressing and chicken.

4 servings, about 2 cups each
Active Time: 40 minutes
Total Time: 55 minutes

 INGREDIENTS

DRESSING
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/3 cup tahini, (see Tip)
2 tablespoons honey
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground pepper, to taste

SALAD
1 pound new or baby red potatoes
1 pound chicken tenders
1/4 teaspoon plus pinch of salt, divided
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 small clove garlic
4 cups mâche, or baby spinach
1 cup shelled English peas, (about 1 1/2 pounds unshelled) or thawed frozen peas
1 tablespoon finely chopped shallot

PREPARATION
To prepare dressing: Combine lemon juice, 1/3 cup oil, tahini, honey and minced garlic in a blender, a jar with a tight-fitting lid or a medium bowl. Blend, shake or whisk until smooth. Season with 1 teaspoon salt and pepper.
To prepare salad: Place a steamer basket in a large saucepan, add 1 inch of water and bring to a boil. Put potatoes in the basket and steam until barely tender when pierced with a skewer, 15 to 20 minutes, depending on size. When cool enough to handle, slice or quarter.
Meanwhile, toss chicken with 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer to a clean cutting board to cool. Shred into bite-size pieces.
Season a wooden salad bowl by rubbing with 1/2 clove garlic and a pinch of salt. Chop the garlic and add to the bowl along with the potatoes and mâche (or spinach). Pour 1/2 cup dressing over the potatoes and greens; gently toss to coat. (Cover and refrigerate the remaining 3/4 cup dressing for up to 3 days.) Add peas, shallot and the shredded chicken; gently toss and serve.
TIPS & NOTES
Make Ahead Tip: Cover and refrigerate the dressing (Step 1) for up to 3 days.

Chicken with Quick Mole Sauce

Rich, dark and delicious, mole is a signature sauce in Mexican cooking. There are many variations, but the basic ingredients include plenty of chiles and nuts along with a touch of chocolate to tame the heat of the chiles. Traditional recipes can take several hours to prepare—this quick version takes a few shortcuts by using chili powder, nut butter and chocolate chips. Serve with rice and a medley of sautéed zucchini, pepper and onion.

4 servings
Active Time: 35 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

 INGREDIENTS
1 1/4 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs, trimmed
1/4 teaspoon salt, divided
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons canola oil, divided
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1/2 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
1/4 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon almond butter or natural peanut butter
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (see Note)

PREPARATION
Season chicken with 1/8 teaspoon salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook, turning once, until browned on both sides, about 4 minutes total. Transfer to a plate.
Reduce heat to medium. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon oil, garlic, chile powder, cumin, cinnamon and the remaining 1/8 teaspoon salt to the pan. Cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add tomato sauce, broth, chocolate chips and almond (or peanut) butter; stir to combine. Bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to medium-low, return the chicken (and any accumulated juice) to the pan and turn to coat with the sauce. Simmer until the chicken is cooked through, about 5 minutes more. Serve sprinkled with sesame seeds.
TIPS & NOTES
Note: Look for toasted sesame seeds at the supermarket near other Asian ingredients. Or toast regular sesame seeds in a small dry skillet over low heat, stirring constantly, until golden and fragrant, about 2 minutes.

Balsamic & Parmesan Roasted Cauliflower

Roasting isn't usually the first cooking method you think of for cauliflower but the results are quite delicious. The florets are cut into thick slices and tossed with extra-virgin olive oil and herbs. Wherever the flat surfaces come into contact with the hot roasting pan, a deep browning occurs that results in a sweet, nutty flavor.

4 servings, about 1 cup each
Active Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

INGREDIENTS
8 cups 1-inch-thick slices cauliflower florets, (about 1 large head; see Tip)
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon dried marjoram
1/4 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground pepper to taste
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup finely shredded Parmesan cheese

PREPARATION
Preheat oven to 450°F.
Toss cauliflower, oil, marjoram, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Spread on a large rimmed baking sheet and roast until starting to soften and brown on the bottom, 15 to 20 minutes. Toss the cauliflower with vinegar and sprinkle with cheese. Return to the oven and roast until the cheese is melted and any moisture has evaporated, 5 to 10 minutes more.

TIPS & NOTES
Tip: To prepare florets from a whole head of cauliflower, remove outer leaves. Slice off the thick stem. With the head upside down and holding a knife at a 45° angle, slice into the smaller stems with a circular motion—removing a “plug” from the center of the head. Break or cut florets into the desired size.

Salmon Panzanella

This traditional Italian bread salad is full of tomatoes and cucumber and gets a protein boost with the addition of grilled salmon.

4 servings, 2 cups salad & 3 ounces salmon each
Active Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

 INGREDIENTS
8 Kalamata olives, pitted and chopped
3 tablespoons red-wine vinegar
1 tablespoon capers, rinsed and chopped
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper, divided
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 thick slices day-old whole-grain bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (see Tip)
2 large tomatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 medium cucumber, peeled (if desired), seeded and cut into 1-inch pieces
1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
1/4 cup thinly sliced fresh basil
1 pound center-cut salmon, skinned (see Tip) and cut into 4 portions
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

PREPARATION
Preheat grill to high.
Whisk olives, vinegar, capers and 1/8 teaspoon pepper in a large bowl. Slowly whisk in oil until combined. Add bread, tomatoes, cucumber, onion and basil.
Oil the grill rack (see Tip). Season both sides of salmon with salt and the remaining 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Grill the salmon until cooked through, 4 to 5 minutes per side.
Divide the salad among 4 plates and top each with a piece of salmon.
TIPS & NOTES
Tips: If using fresh bread, you can grill the bread slices along with the salmon and then cut them into cubes. Alternatively, cut bread into cubes, place on a baking sheet and bake at 300°F until dry.
How to skin a salmon fillet: Place salmon fillet on a clean cutting board, skin-side down. Starting at the tail end, slip the blade of a long knife between the fish flesh and the skin, holding down firmly with your other hand. Gently push the blade along at a 30° angle, separating the fillet from the skin without cutting through either.
To oil the grill rack, oil a folded paper towel, hold it with tongs and rub it over the rack. (Do not use cooking spray on a hot grill.) When grilling delicate foods like tofu and fish, it is helpful to spray the food with cooking spray before placing it on the grill.

REMINDERS FROM GOD:

 Revelation 1:12-18

(12) Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, (13) and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. (14) His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; (15) His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; (16) He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. (17) And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, "Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. (18) I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

By far, the most important feature of Revelation 1 is its long description of the Revelator Himself, Jesus Christ. John wants to be sure that his readers—the members of God's church—realize, not only who is revealing the future to the church, but also just how special and important He is to us now. In a way, the apostle is adding a final chapter to his gospel, showing us the awesome glory, power, and eternal nature of our Savior in His present role as High Priest and Head of the church.

When John turns "to see the voice" (verse 12), he beholds "One like the Son of Man" (verse 13) standing amidst seven golden lampstands, later explicitly identified as the seven churches (verse 20). John sees a glorious Being who resembles his dear friend and Master, Jesus of Nazareth, but this Person is far beyond human. He is God, in many respects just as the prophets Daniel and Ezekiel describe Him from their visions (Daniel 10:5-6; Ezekiel 1:26-27). John sees Christ

. . . clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. (Revelation 1:13-16)

John had seen something like this in the past, and he recognized who it was immediately: " was transfigured before them, His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as the light" (Matthew 17:2). If anything, this vision had an even greater impact on John than the transfiguration did, causing him to fall "at His feet as dead" (Revelation 1:17), again as both Ezekiel and Daniel did (Ezekiel 1:28; Daniel 10:8-9).

Laying His right hand on John (Revelation 1:17), perhaps in healing or in blessing, Jesus tells the aged apostle not to be afraid because "I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death" (verses 17-18). In less symbolic language, He says, "Relax, I am indeed the Eternal God, but I am also Jesus, your friend, whom you saw die and then rise from the dead. Look! This is what it is like to have eternal life! I now have all power over life and death." Though he remained astonished, what a comfort that must have been to John!

And he passes it on to us so that we, too, might have both comfort and faith in what Jesus commands him to write, the book of Revelation (verse 19). This final book of the canon is not the delusion of a senile old man on a sun-drenched Mediterranean isle, nor the deceptions of another, more sinister spirit whose aim is to distract and corrupt God's people. No, the book of Revelation is a direct communication from our Lord Himself, given in love for His sheep, especially for those whom He calls to face the turmoil and terror of that great day of God.

We have this confidence: that Jesus Christ has ascended to the Father, having fulfilled His every assignment and received all things; that He is "the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth" (verse 5) and more besides; and that He will soon return to earth to set things straight (verse 7). In writing the introduction to his book this way, John has endowed us with the background information and the attitude we need to understand the words of this prophecy and keep what is written in it (verse 3).

To unsoundness of mind is shown; there was certainly a degree of debility from age and supervening infirmities, the understanding was weakened and impaired, but that does not render a person intestable or incapable of judging of injuries done to him or of benefits confered upon him.

-- The Law Times, Volume 69, 1880

I understood that a man convicted by the verdict of his country of housebreaking is infamous and intestable.

-- James Boswell, Mark Harris, The heart of Boswell: six journals in one volume

Origin:

Intestable shares the same root as testify, the Latin testa, "to bear witness."

TODAYS DOG TIP:

Top Legal Questions & Answers

By: Alex Lieber

The bond between you and your pet may be a private, special thing, but there are a lot of legalities attached to your companion animal. It's important to know your legal rights and responsibilities to protect your pet while respecting laws.

Here are a few answers to many of the legal questions that often come up in regard to pets. It is the responsibility of the pet owner to learn the local, county, state and/or federal laws that may pertain to their animals. Remember that ignorance of the law is no excuse. You can find out about the laws of your area by contacting the animal control department of your city, county and/or state. Remember that some laws may apply only to your community while others apply throughout the state or even the country.

Q: Dogs and cats are largely considered property in the legal definition. Is this changing and what would the effect be?

A: Although some cities have changed the wording of pet owner to "guardian," pets are still considered property. If someone deliberately kills a neighbor's dog, he or she usually has committed a crime against property. There is, however, currently a trend is some states to move slowly toward allowing owners compensation for loss of companionship.

Q: Are cruelty and neglect considered felonies or misdemeanors, and are the laws changing on this?

A: Most crimes against pets were once misdemeanors – a lesser crime – because pets were seen more as farm animals or workers. If you shot someone's dog, you used to only owe the owner a new dog. But with pets being viewed as family members, animal abuse (actual cruelty inflicted on a pet) and neglect (ignoring an animal's basic needs) are becoming felonies. Pets are still considered property, however.

Q: My lease says "no pets" but I adopt one anyway. Can my landlord evict me without giving me a chance to find a new home? Generally, how long do I have to find a new place?

A: That all depends on your lease, the written contract between you and your landlord. Leases usually provide some time for you to leave, if you violate the lease. As a tenant, you have specific rights and your landlord must go through the courts to evict you. Some states are tenant-friendly while others favor the landlord. Here's a hint: if your lease does not mention a pet, in most states you have every right to bring one in. However, your landlord can choose not to renew your lease.

Q: Can my landlord take my pet to the pound while I am at work?

A: Most likely no, unless your lease specifically says he can take your pet. Otherwise, that would be theft.

Q: Why do laws vary from state to state and city to city? Are there federal laws governing pets? What happens if a local ordinance is in conflict with a state law?

A: The United States operates under the federal system. In theory, the states govern themselves and the federal government only governs enough to keep the nation unified. With the exception of specific (often endangered or dangerous) species, it's easier for the states to handle pet laws themselves, based on their particular situations. Likewise, it's easier for municipalities to establish the community standards that pertain to their situation. A rural community has different requirements than a crowded city, for instance.

Q: Why does my dog need a license but my cat doesn't?

A: In a lot of places, cats do. You need to make sure where your community stands on the issue. Licensing cats is somewhat controversial because the law is difficult to enforce, especially with indoor cats. If your cat is caught outside and you're identified as the owner, you may be subject to a fine.

Q: I was recently fined for violating pooper-scooper laws. Can I appeal it?

A: You appeal a fine the same way you appeal a traffic ticket. Usually, you go before an administrative board, local court or whoever is enforcing the law.

Q: My dog stays on my property without being leashed or fenced in. Can he be picked up by animal control?

A: That depends on your local laws. If your laws say your dog must be leashed or fenced in, animal control may be allowed to come onto your property and take him away, especially if he doesn't have a tag and is potentially aggressive.

Look at it from their point of view. They are driving down a road and see a dog barking at them, loose in an unsecured yard. Kids are on the street and there is no way for them to know to whom the dog belongs. If they leave the scene and the dog bites someone, the city may be liable.

Q: My neighbor's dog is digging up my yard. Can I take the dog to the pound if he's roaming off the owner's property?

A: If he is roaming off the property, I'd err on the side of caution and call animal control to pick him up. It isn't like making a citizen's arrest; an individual usually cannot enforce a leash law.

Q: When is euthanasia legally mandated?

A: Again, this depends on your city or state laws. Dogs with rabies are euthanized, as are some vicious dogs that have attacked people. Public health and welfare laws usually govern whether or not euthanasia is mandated.

How to Divorce As Peacefully As Possible

No divorce is sweet and rarely is it as amicable as hoped for! Many losses are experienced when ending a relationship, such as the loss of a home, security, finances, comfort, intimacy, etc., just to name a few.

However, there are some strategies that divorcing couples can learn in order to make their departure from the relationship as peaceful and stress-free as possible. By finding successful strategies to deal with the loss and pain, both partners can find an effective pathway to facilitate the process and end up with a peaceful outcome

Steps

1  Deal with the emotional aspect of the breakup above all else. Divorce is a time of great emotional pain and enormous change. You may have done your utmost to save the marriage, only to have it result in a definite end. If you're finding it difficult to work through the changes and sense of emotional loss, it is vital to seek counselling from a neutral party, as this will help you deal with the loss of trust, respect and affection within the relationship. Learning coping strategies will help you to survive the pain and losses. Emotional problems you may encounter include:

It may become very traumatic to accept that you have been rejected or replaced. It leaves you feeling as though you have been rejected and affects your self esteem, especially where you're the partner who has been left behind.

Feelings of anger and resentment need to be diffused to allow you to reclaim your life as a single person again.

A sense of emptiness when looking into the future can overwhelm you. Worries about ever sharing your life with someone again are naturally pervasive but can blur your ability to recover.

Feeling wounded, sometimes very deeply and not wanting to open up to anyone else about any of your emotions. Your sense of trust can be shattered.

2  Aim to see the positive side to dealing with lawyers and the courts. While this part of divorce proceedings may be stressful, once over this does provide some tangible benefits to the divorce process. Partners are now legally separated from their duties to be responsible for one another. Moreover, the certainty as to assets that arises from the legal process can settle the messiness that emotional attachments create. As part of coping with the legal aspects of divorce, the following considerations will help a more peaceful process for you:

Know your legal rights. It is important to know your rights and how to enforce them in relation to property settlement, maintenance, and custody. Knowledge can help to keep you calmer and more at ease about what is happening to you.

Find a lawyer you click with. Don't settle for the first one if that lawyer doesn't feel right. Sometimes the strain of divorce can be more than matched by your irritation with your lawyer's antics, so be sure you're happy with this person before agreeing to retaining them. The more aggressive and "take-all" the attitude of your lawyer, the less amicable the settlement process will be, so bear that in mind when choosing one.

3  Avoid bitterness when assets have to be divided. This creates major unhappiness as each partner feels robbed and this generates arguing as to who is entitled to what. Most couples struggle to agree on who should get what. Couples ideally should focus on creating a new life, new environment with no lasting memories of the cancelled marriage. This notion will help them not to fight over items that will bring back memories and pain of the once held marriage.

Have all the facts and figures in hand to assist your lawyer in building a sound financial case and to convince your spouse without arguments and assumptions being involved. Use receipts, documented evidence, and other reliable sources of information to back up your wishes. This could include writing out a complete financial history of your marriage that reflects the resources you have, estimated value of shared property, individual assets, and liabilities. While this may sound calculating, it is no more than being factual and facts are your best approach in keeping emotions down.

Give your spouse the option of what to take from the house. You may be extremely surprised at how little discussion is required to divide a household when you free up the taking. For many couples, it becomes clear that there always were "his and mine" or "hers and mine" divisions in the house and it is only when arguing that these evident divisions are used as weapons to wound one another. Take away that chance by simply offering your spouse the opportunity to take what they please. Their own sense of responsibility and guilt will do some of the sorting for you!

Toss a coin for items you have each paid half for. It will even out in the end. Are your belongings so worth the angst otherwise?

4  Decide on how family life should be organized when children are involved. "Who has custody", "How can visiting rights of the access parent be arranged", " How can parenting responsibilities be shared between two parties", are all important issues that need to be resolved. It is not healthy for the children when parents use them as weapons against each other. Children are not protected from the conflict and bitterness that rages between angry parents. Put the children first and avoid creating situations whereby children become emotionally trapped by their loyalty to both parents.

Watch out for transference of emotional abuse from an abusive parent onto the children. Neither do this yourself nor allow the other spouse to do it. Signs include "You'd choose to live with me if you loved me." That is classic manipulation and when done to children, it is unkind and places the children in a bind they can't win whatever they say or choose.

Use a consultant or mediator to assist with determining custody arrangements if you don't feel you're able to do this yourself. If the custody arrangements have to be agreed to by a court, or you end up in court anyway, a court that can see the parents already trying hard will be impressed by the teamwork and consideration given to the children's needs first of all.

Be prepared to trial a few systems before settling on the one that works for both of you. You can't possibly know what will work out best until you've given different arrangements a chance. Take into account the children's impressions too.

For the greatest peaceful transition, both of you should be prepared to share the major decisions about the welfare of children and to continue to interact with one another in relation to the children's lives.

5  Deal appropriately with adjustment in the community. Most often divorcing couples have to leave a community of friends and colleagues to join another. Shared friends from the former marriage often need to choose whose "side" they are on. Deal with losses in a mature way, knowing that some of these friendships, like the marriage were never meant to be. This can be a huge loss for many people who had valued the relationships formed and a sense of belonging that they once shared. However, being realistic about the relationships can help smooth the path for you.

Avoid expecting your friends to take sides. If you don't speak ill of your ex-spouse, they have less ground to do so either. If you reassure them that the divorce was amicable and that the two of you are still friends, sometimes this may ease the tension with friends (provided what you say is true). Equally, don't bring up your spouse at all; this breaks the connection for both you and your friends and allows everyone to move on.

For more ideas about how your friends see the situation, read How to be a good friend to both parties in a divorce.

6  Learn to regain your sense of you as an individual. This part is marked by seeing yourself as an individual again rather than being a part of an intimate couple. The intense reactions of denial, anger, bargaining and grief need to replaced with feelings of acceptance.

Give yourself time. Initially you will probably feel fragmented, vulnerable, broken, low in self esteem, and various other emotions depending on your gender, whether you initiated the divorce or not, and what has happened through the course of the divorce. For some, there may be an absolute sense of relief! Whatever the feelings, coming to terms with your new life requires time and the formation of new routines and habits.

In order to keep your own inner peace, avoid self-blame. Relationships require two people and the consent and involvement of both. If you try to blame yourself for what has happened, then you will feel guilty, angry, and helpless. Blame is a useless emotion and when it is related to the end of a marriage, it simply causes you harm. Accept that the marriage has ended and that there are new things to do in life now, including finding a new sense of purpose.

Take up yoga, meditation, or a martial art to give you the chance to develop your inner focus and as a source of relieving stress.

7  Distance yourself from all aspects of the broken relationship. Move on to rediscover your own individuality. This is referred to as the central separation, the stage when the person starts to feel whole again. At this stage, you need to have clearly defined rules in your head about any further interaction with your spouse, in order to continue maintaining the peace. Some of these rules could include (they're up to you):

Treating future interactions in a professional, business-like manner. You still need to talk for the sake of the children? Act like you're in a business meeting at work, with the well-being of the children being the business at hand.

End any conversation with your ex-spouse that turns into a shouting match or where you're constantly interrupted. Explain that you'll talk again when everyone has calmed down. Make it clear in future meetings that should your spouse interrupt or explode, you will end that meeting too.

Never use children to relay information to your ex-spouse. Use emails or the post for this. Avoid texts; they're too personal, intimate, and too connected.

Depersonalize all of your communications. Keep your points simple (it can help to write down points of discussion first) and keep everything neutral.

Cut the ties. Don't talk to your ex-spouse for advice, help, expertise, or anything of the sort unless you have no choice in a work context. Find new places for advice, such as your accountant, doctor, lawyer, paid home handy-helpers, or someone else in your spouse's profession or line of work.

If you need more money for the children, work it out as a business proposal with your ex-spouse and do not beg, cry, manipulate, or show yourself as a victim.

Tips

Find a lawyer who is caring, supporting, and cooperative. On the other hand, realize that your lawyer may not seem this way to your spouse and your spouse's lawyer may not seem this way to you. The lawyers are there for their clients, not the other side; that's how adversarial systems work. If it is turning into a real bother, you may need to take your soon-to-be-ex-spouse aside and discuss the lawyers' tactics together and then to report back to each respective lawyer and ask them to tone down their attacking stance. This can then ease the tension for both of you.

Sometimes the advice of friends and professionals can be helpful and other times, it can make things worse. Be prepared to continue using your own judgment as to what is likely to result in the most peaceful and amicable outcomes.

Remember to talk things out, because talking is better then violence.

Warnings

If communications become deadlocked during a divorce, things can go from a desire to be reasonable and amicable to being downright nasty and pigheaded. It is easy to get caught up in this negative spiral as a result of your own negative emotions. Do your best to step aside from the nasty tactics though. One way to help might be to employ a mediator, especially in relation to dividing finances and property. This neutral person can remove much of the emotion, exhaustion, and anger and can move between the two of you without taking sides.

If you feel suicidal during a divorce, get help immediately. This is a hard time but it's never worth killing yourself over.

Bound for Freedom

John 8:32, NIV: "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you

free."

We are often bound by so many chains. Some chains are the invisible ties that

bind you, and can elude you for great lengths of time before being discovered.

Some chains are known to you, yet you have not discovered how to be set free

from them. Perhaps some of them have held you for so long that you have

grown accustomed to them, and have decided that they are something you will

just have to live with. But if you seek His truth, His truth will set you

free...right? Can you agree? Perhaps you have tried to be free from something,

and feel that you are seeking Christ's truth regarding it. Then why is it you

still feel chained? Perhaps the chains that hold you are those of

misunderstanding God's purpose within a heartache or trial. Maybe you have

not surrendered to Him by saying, "Lord, I don't understand. But I know you

have my best interest at heart. Thy will be done." God's will never chains you

but sets you free. Sometimes it frees you from expecting Him to answer you

according to your will. There is no question His truth sets you free. But the

freedom He brings does not promise freedom from troubles--but freedom in

the midst of them.

And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his

friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of

Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

TODAYS DOG TIP:

Laws Covering Dogs and Their Owners

 By: Joan Paylo

America is not only a nation of law, but also a nation of dog owners. A growing

body of dog-related laws shows increased respect for humane issues and

recognition that pets are family members.

Where dogs once were regarded only as property, courts now may consider

them as intelligent creatures who feel pain and fear. People who mistreat dogs

are no longer dismissed with a slap on the wrist.

Laws pertaining to dogs differ, depending on your state, county and

municipality. Whether you are moving to a new neighborhood or just traveling

through, you should be aware of the responsibilities and protections given to

dog owners and their pets.

Basic Laws for Dog Owners

Rabies. Proof of inoculation is required by most states or municipalities.

Spay/neuter. More and more localities require that all animals adopted from

shelters be sterilized.

If the animal is too young or is medically unable to undergo this surgery at the

time of adoption, the law can require that the owner leave a deposit until the

pet is fixed. Some localities charge a higher licensing fee if the animal is not

sterilized. Reasoning goes that only breeders would have reason not to

sterilize their dogs, and that they are willing to pay extra for the privilege.

These fees often go into a spay/neuter fund for indigent animals. In a few

states, dog or cat vanity license plates finance such programs.

Chaining. Tethering or limiting the movement of dogs is considered inhumane.

In fact, chained dogs are more likely to bite humans and other pets and are

unable to defend themselves or flee if attacked. Many communities restrict

the length of time a dog can be chained and forbid certain methods of

restraint.

Shelters. State or local laws specify the minimum amount of time a dog must

be held by an animal control shelter before he is considered without an owner.

When the period is up, the shelter has the right to put the dog up for adoption

or euthanize him. In areas where there is limited shelter capacity, the period

may be as little as 48 hours.

Breed bans. From time to time, local legislatures pass laws banning a specific

breed - such as pit bulls - which they label as "dangerous." Others require

owners of a "dangerous" breed to carry a certain amount of liability insurance

on the dog. Such laws are not effective, because individual dogs - not entire

breeds - can be bred or trained to be dangerous. Also, history shows that

when one breed is banned as "dangerous," people who want an aggressive dog

simply raise and train another breed to take its place.

Identification. In some states, shelters are now required to scan for a

microchip I.D. when the dog arrives.

Aid to suffering animals. In many states, it is against the law for a passer-by

not to call authorities or offer aid to an injured or suffering animal.

Problem Dogs

If your dog threatens or bites a person or another pet, expect a call from a

lawyer representing the victim (or owner) and prepare for a trip to court. A

judge or a health department official will hear your case and determine the

consequences. Some communities have established special "animal courts" to

handle bite cases and dog-related nuisance and quality-of-life complaints.

If your dog is a nuisance - roaming the neighborhood, for example - the judge

may require that you install high fencing to ensure that your dog will not

escape your yard. The judge also can require that you sterilize your dog.

If your dog bites someone, you may be directed to pay the victim's medical or

veterinary bills. If your dog is seized and impounded, awaiting a decision by

the courts, you will be charged for the food, lodging and care he's given. If a

bitten animal dies, you may also be required to pay several hundred dollars for

the mental anguish and loss of companionship suffered by the owner. The

judge will determine whether your dog can be rehabilitated. If your

"dangerous dog" is not put to death, the judge may require him to be muzzled

at all times, even in your yard.

If you have no proof of rabies inoculation, your dog may be impounded for

observation for some weeks, and you will pay the bill. But if the dog bites a

child and you can't prove rabies immunity, he may be euthanized so that his

brain tissue can be tested for the fatal virus.

Animal Cruelty Laws

Neglect or injury. Failure to provide food, shelter or medical care or injuring,

beating or overworking a dog is a misdemeanor in most states. Punishment

varies, but is typically up to a year in prison, as much as $1,000 in fines, or

both.

Torturing a dog. Intending to inflict serious pain, injury or death is now

considered a felony in 30 states. Punishment may include as much as a year in

prison and thousands of dollars in fines. After years of lobbying by humane

organizations, legislators are now writing laws that recognize the close

relationship between animal and child or spousal abuse. Some states require

that a person convicted of animal cruelty get psychological counseling at his

own expense. Others ask that the offender and his family be interviewed by

social workers assigned by the district attorney.

Veterinarians are asked to report extreme or repeated instances of animal

abuse to police or social service agencies. Many states protect them from

lawsuits stemming from such reports.

Dog fighting. State laws intended to prevent animal cruelty set tough penalties

for people who train and fight dogs, and often set fines for spectators, as

well.

Housing Laws

Many condominium complexes or apartment buildings ban dogs across the

board or limit the number and weight of pets you can keep. Check policies

before buying or signing a lease.

Most public housing forbids anyone but the disabled to keep pets. This can

present a particularly heart-wrenching problem for senior citizens who must

give up their pets when entering subsidized housing.

Consumer Protection Laws

Pet shops and puppy mills. Government health departments work with animal

control officers, answering consumer complaints and inspecting pet shops and

puppy mills to check that the animals are being provided food, shelter and

veterinary care. Puppy-mill owners often try to locate their businesses where

such laws or enforcement are lax.

Pet lemon laws. Many states or localities recognize that puppies raised in

puppy mills and sold in pet stores often become sick soon after going to a new

home. Although nothing is just compensation for the suffering and tragedy the

dog and his family endure, laws require a pet store or breeder to refund the

purchase price or cover veterinary bills incurred during the illness.

Life changes. Dog owners can call on lawyers to work out pet custody

agreements in divorces and to draw up trusts to provide for their dogs in case

of their death.

Animal Rights Issues

The federal government has banned the importation of dog and cat fur for

sale in this country. The government also requires airlines to report statistics

for animals injured or lost in transport. Many states ban the processing of

dogs for food to be sold here or in foreign countries and monitor laboratories

that use dogs in chemical and pharmaceutical testing and experimentation.

How to Make a Banana Milkshake Without a Blender

While a blender does make a thick, smooth milkshake, you can still make a

milkshake without a blender by improvising with a few basic tools. Perfect for

times when the weather's so hot the electricity grid has blown and you're left

with clearing everything out of the fridge fast, or just perfect for those

times when you can't be bothered with the blender and all its noise. Here's a

recipe to make one serving

Ingredients

1 ripe banana; you can also make different types using crushed berries, vanilla

extract or chocolate syrup (etc). Bananas are ripe when they are starting to

go just past the yellow stage and their skins start to develop some caramel

colours. If the banana is too under-ripe and hard, it doesn't mash well or

taste good. Over-ripe is also a problem as it can taste too strong. It is better

to use over-ripe ones for banana bread instead.

1 cup ice cream

1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy choices are fine). Full fat milk tends to make

better bubbles and foam, which are desirable in milkshakes.

Optional sweetener such as a little extra ice cream, caster sugar (superfine

sugar) or dextrose, or honey to taste. If the banana is ripe it shouldn't be

needed, but if your banana is "cold room" ripened (as opposed to ripened on

the tree), then it might lack in natural sugars

Steps

1 Peel the banana. Mash it with a wooden spoon or a whisk until very smooth in

a bowl.

Many children love mashing banana. If you have children, ask them to help with

this step!

2 Add ice cream and continue to beat until smooth and the mix is well blended.

Aim to have no banana lumps as a rotary whisk (see the "things you need"

section for an image of a rotary whisk) may remove most lumps, but lumps of

banana can make it harder to use a straw when drinking.

Aside from vanilla icecream, Chocolate is a great flavour, as well as other

fruit icecreams or gelato that would work with banana.

3 Add milk and using a hand whisk, whisk until creamy and frothy (about 2

minutes). This will make a fairly thick milkshake, so you can add more milk and

desired sweetener to balance it out to a preferred consistency. Older

fashioned milkshakes appear to favour a high milk and sugar ratio to icecream

and fruit to make an easy to drink consistency and was shaken with the aim to

get a big head of foam when poured in the glass (a bit like a iced cappuccino in

concept). More modern recipes seem to favour the "thickshake" cream like

consistency, so its easy to make this to suit both styles.

4  A cocktail shaker can make the job easy, but a jar is fine. Alternatively, use

a cocktail shaker if you have one, by transferring the banana ice cream and

milk into that and shaking away. You can also use container with a tight seal

(such as a large jar or other storage container).

Cocktail shakers or a large jar make the best milkshakes, after all, while the

"milk-bar" age was when power blenders were mainstream, they had to use

something before electricity was available and most bars would be incomplete

without a cocktail shaker. Further to that, shaking or churning milk in a jar is

an age old way to make butter.

Milkshakes for health. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, milkshakes were

often reserved for "Invalid cookery" (invalid, often pronounced as "inva-lid",

was used in older times to mean the ill, injured or disabled members of the

household who often had difficulty eating solid foods). These also sometimes

had a raw egg in them for extra nutrient and protein content. These were

known as "eggflips" (not to be confused with egg-nog, which is a very

different drink served at Christmas) and eggflips are still a popular drink

today in many British Commonwealth countries, often with fruit such as

banana or mango blended in. The raw egg gave it a custard like flavour and a

nicer head of foam and creamy consistency. Simply add one egg to the recipe

when you add the milk and beat in well until thoroughly blended (take care to

select eggs that won't risk salmonella poisoning).

5 Taste to ensure it's sweet enough, add a little sweetener if needed, or a

little more milk if the ice cream was too sweet. Shake again briefly to mix. It's

easiest to add extra ice cream, honey or other syrups which mixes in smoothly,

as sugar can stay powdery or gritty in a thick, cold liquid which already

contains some sugar.

6  Serve at once. You may pour the milkshake through a sieve if you want a

super smooth milkshake but that does add to the washing up, something less

desirable on a hot day!

Tips

This article assumes that there is no blender, blending wand, food processor

or any electronic mixing device involved, otherwise using one of those will be

easier.

It would also be easier to use a banana flavoured syrup or powder, but that

would be cheating and it wouldn't taste anywhere near as good.

Warnings

Make sure your cocktail shaker is well sealed to avoid spills.

Things You'll Need

Old fashioned rotary whisks are much quicker if you have them. A large bowl

with a pouring lip, wooden spoon or potato masher and whisk

Or: A small bowl, fork or potato masher, cocktail shaker or jar

Measuring utensils and a serving glass

Chop Onions  Without Crying

To slow down the enzymes that cause tearing, put onions in the freezer for 15

minutes—or in the refrigerator for one hour—before you have to cut them.

But if you don’t plan ahead, here are some other suggestions...

Work with the onion under cold running water, or fill a basin with cold water

and submerge the onion while you cut it.

Burn a candle in the area where you are cutting. The tear-causing vapor from

the onion is drawn to the heat source from the flame, and it will burn off

some of the noxious fumes.

Bite on a slice of bread and have the rest sticking out of your mouth to absorb

the tear-making fumes.

REMINDERS FROM GOD:

False Gods

1 John 4:1 ESV / 9

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Isaiah 43:10

“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.

Revelation 19:16

On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

Deuteronomy 4:24

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Genesis 1:26

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Revelation 20:11

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.

Revelation 17:1-18

Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk.” And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality. And on her forehead was written a name of mystery: “Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth's abominations.” ...

Revelation 13:1-18

And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads. And the beast that I saw was like a leopard; its feet were like a bear's, and its mouth was like a lion's mouth. And to it the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority. One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?” And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months. ...

James 2:19

You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

Hebrews 11:17

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son,

1 Corinthians 15:22

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

1 Corinthians 14:22

Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.

1 Corinthians 14:19

Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

1 Corinthians 14:14

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful.

1 Corinthians 14:9

So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air.

1 Corinthians 14:1-40

Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up. ...

1 Corinthians 8:6

Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

1 Corinthians 1:22

For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,

Acts 19:1-41

And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples. And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.” And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. ...

Acts 10:45

And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles.

While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.

To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”

At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort, a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God. About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.” And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God. And now send men to Joppa and bring one Simon who is called Peter. ...

Acts 4:12

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Acts 2:22

“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know—

Acts 2:6

And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language.

Acts 2:1-47

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. ...

Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

John 20:19

John 20:15

Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”

And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 13:19

John 3:3

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

John 3:1

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

John 1:18

No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Matthew 15:11

It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”

Matthew 12:1-50

At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.” He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless? ...

Matthew 10:5 ESV

These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans,

Matthew 5:17

Joel 2:1-32 ESV

Blow a trumpet in Zion; sound an alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming; it is near, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains a great and powerful people; their like has never been before, nor will be again after them through the years of all generations. Fire devours before them, and behind them a flame burns. The land is like the garden of Eden before them, but behind them a desolate wilderness, and nothing escapes them. Their appearance is like the appearance of horses, and like war horses they run. As with the rumbling of chariots, they leap on the tops of the mountains, like the crackling of a flame of fire devouring the stubble, like a powerful army drawn up for battle. ...

Jeremiah 50:1-46 ESV

The word that the Lord spoke concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, by Jeremiah the prophet: “Declare among the nations and proclaim, set up a banner and proclaim, conceal it not, and say: ‘Babylon is taken, Bel is put to shame, Merodach is dismayed. Her images are put to shame, her idols are dismayed.’ “For out of the north a nation has come up against her, which shall make her land a desolation, and none shall dwell in it; both man and beast shall flee away. “In those days and in that time, declares the Lord, the people of Israel and the people of Judah shall come together, weeping as they come, and they shall seek the Lord their God. They shall ask the way to Zion, with faces turned toward it, saying, ‘Come, let us join ourselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.’ ...

Exodus 20:3 ESV /

“You shall have no other gods before me.

Exodus 7:1 ESV /

Genesis 11:1-32 ESV /

Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. ...

And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man. ...

Genesis 6:1-22 ESV /

When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. ...

Genesis 1:1 ESV /

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Revelation 20:11-15 ESV /

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Revelation 20:1-15 ESV /

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while. Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. ...

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ESV /

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

1 Corinthians 14:23 ESV /

If, therefore, the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your minds?

Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?

Romans 10:11 ESV /

For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

Romans 10:9 ESV /

Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

WORD FOR THE DAY:

"Scry" redirects here. It is not to be confused with Scrye.

The Crystal Ball by John William Waterhouse (1902, oil on canvas)

Scrying (also called seeing or peeping) is a magic practice that involves seeing things psychically in a medium, usually for purposes of obtaining spiritual visions and less often for purposes of divination or fortune-telling. The most common media used are reflective, translucent, or luminescent substances such as crystals, stones, glass, mirrors, water, fire, or smoke. Scrying has been used in many cultures as a means of divining the past, present, or future. Depending on the culture and practice, the visions that come when one stares into the media are thought to come from God, spirits, the psychic mind, the devil, or the subconscious.

Although scrying is most commonly done with a crystal ball, it may also be performed using any smooth surface, such as a bowl of liquid, a pond, or a crystal.

Scrying is actively used by many cultures and belief systems and is not limited to one tradition or ideology. As of 2009, the Ganzfeld experiment, a sensory deprivation experiment inspired by scrying, provides the best known evidence for psi abilities in the laboratory. Nevertheless, like other aspects of divination and parapsychology, scrying is not supported by mainstream science as a method of predicting the future or otherwise seeing events that are not physically observable.

Method

The visions that scryers say they see may come from variations in the medium. If the medium is water (hydromancy), then the visions may come from the color, ebb and flow, or ripples produced by pebbles dropped in a pool. If the medium is a crystal ball, the visions may come from the tiny inclusions, web-like faults, or the cloudy glow within the ball under low light (e.g., candlelight).

One method of scrying using a crystal ball involves a self-induced trance. Initially, the medium serves as a focus for the attention, removing unwanted thoughts from the mind in the same way as a mantra. Once this stage is achieved, the scryer begins a free association with the perceived images suggested. The technique of deliberately looking for and declaring these initial images aloud, however trivial or irrelevant they may seem to the conscious mind, is done with the intent of deepening the trance state, in this trance the scryer hears his own disassociated voice affirming what is seen within the concentrated state in a kind of feedback loop. This process culminates in the achievement of a final and desired end stage in which rich visual images and dramatic stories seem to be projected within the medium itself, or directly within the mind's eye of the scryer, something like an inner movie. This process reputedly allows the scryer to "see" relevant events or images within the chosen medium.

One of the most famous scryers in history, lived in the 16th century and was known as Nostradamus. He used a bowl of water or a "magic mirror" to "see" the future in it, while he was in trance.

Main article: Cup of Jamshid

The Shahnameh, a historical epic work written in the late 10th century, gives a description of what was called the Cup of Jamshid or Jaam-e Jam, used in pre-Islamic Persia, which was used by wizards and practitioners of the esoteric sciences for observing all of the seven layers of the universe. The cup contained an elixir of immortality.

Latter Day Saint movement

Main article: Seer stone (Latter Day Saints)

In the late 1820s, Joseph Smith, Jr. founded the Latter Day Saint movement based in part on what was said to be the miraculous information obtained from the reflections of seer stones. Smith had at least three separate stones, including his favorite, a brown stone he found during excavation of a neighbor's well. He initially used these stones in various treasure-digging quests in the early 1820s, placing the stone in the bottom of his hat and putting his face in the hat to read what he believed were the miraculous reflections from the stone.[1] Later, when Smith's thoughts turned to religion and prophecy, Smith used the brown stone while dictating the text of the Book of Mormon, stating that he could see the text of that book within the stone at the bottom of his hat. Smith also said that he had access to a separate set of spectacles composed of seer stones, which he called the Urim and Thummim.

REMINDERS FROM GOD:

Ephesians 4:15

“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”

 Hosea 4:1-2

(1) Hear the word of the LORD,

You children of Israel,

For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land:

" There is no truth or mercy

Or knowledge of God in the land.

(2) By swearing and lying,

Killing and stealing and committing adultery,

They break all restraint,

With bloodshed upon bloodshed.

Hosea mentions a few ramifications of faithlessness. The major truth lost concerns God's Word and its importance to family, community life, and Israel's relationship with Him. However, it extends beyond that: Soon, there is no reliable basis for business or its relationships; there are no solid, unwavering moral standards; in general, people are consistently untrustworthy in all aspects of life; and dependability in anything is hard to find.

"No mercy" is the next valuable quality lost. In this context, mercy has the connotation of "steadfast love," rather than a singular act of kindness. Thus, as a people we blow hot and cold. When we are hot, we are hot, but we cannot seem to sustain it because our eye begins to rove onto some new interest that excites us. Dissatisfaction is an ever-present reality, and impatience simmers right beneath the surface.

Hosea adds that there is "no . . . knowledge of God." This knowledge contains two elements. The first is the general knowledge about God, that is, of His existence, Word, and way. As important as that is, the second—the acknowledgement of God—is even more vital in terms of affecting relationships. This indicates commitment, a robust loyalty to a way of life in which He is the focus. Jesus says in John 17:3 that eternal life is to know God, and the context seems to demand this idea of acknowledging Him.

The apostle Paul confirms in Romans 10:2 that Israel had a zeal for God but not according to knowledge. The Israelites had a general knowledge about God, but they did not seek Him nor know Him. At best, this suggests a very distant relationship.

TODAY'S DOG TIPS:

Tips on Choosing the Correct Water Bowl Size for Dogs

By: Dr. Debra

What size water bowl should you buy? Ideally, you should change your pet's water every day and wash out the bowl. You should run the bowl through a thorough was once weekly. After washing, make sure you rinse it well removing all traces of soap and cleaners.

As a rule of thumb, you pets bowl should hold enough water for him to drink for at least 24 hours, preferably 36 or 48 hours.

How much does a dog drink? As a general rule, dogs drink 20 to 40 ml of water per pound of body weight per day. This comes out to about 3 to 4 cups of water for a 20 pound dog.

So the idea bowl for a 20 pound dog would be 4 to 8 cups. Four cups is almost a liter so that is a big bowl! You may even want to consider a large bowel in the summer when environmental conditions are hot and humid.

As an alterative to one big bowl, you can also consider placing a couple bowls around your home.

O'MAN...

The older we get....

ONE

Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an

order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken

McNuggets.

I asked for a half dozen nuggets.

'We don't have half dozen nuggets,' said the teenager at the counter.

'You don't?' I replied.

'We only have six, nine, or twelve,' was the reply.

'So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?'

'That's right.'

So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets

(Unbelievable but sadly true...)

TWO

I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady

behind me put her things on the

belt close to mine. I picked up one of those 'dividers' that they keep by

the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get

mixed.

After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the 'divider',

looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it.

Not finding the bar code, she said to me, 'Do you know how much this is?'

I said to her 'I've changed my mind; I don't think I'll buy that today.'

She said 'OK,' and I paid her for the things and left.

She had no clue to what had just happened.

THREE

A woman at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and

pulling it out very quickly.

When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the

Internet and they kept asking

for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM 'thingy.'

(keep shuddering!!)

I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. 'Do you need some help?' I asked.

She replied, 'I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door unlocker. Now I  can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery to fit this?'

'Hmmm, I don't know. Do you have an alarm, too?' I asked.

'No, just this remote thingy,' she answered, handing it and the car keys to me.  As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, 'Why don't

you drive over there and check about the batteries. It's a long walk....'

PLEASE just lay down before you hurt yourself !!!

  FIVE

Several years ago, we had an Intern who was none too swift. One day she was

typing and turned to a secretary and

said, 'I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?' 'Just use paper from

the photocopier', the secretary told her. With that, the intern took her

last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded

to make five 'blank' copies.

Brunette, by the way!!

A mother calls 911 very worried asking the dispatcher if she needs to take

her kid to the emergency room, the kid had eaten ants. The dispatcher tells her to give the kid some Benadryl and he

Dispatcher: 'Rush him in to emergency!'

How to Make Your Own Deodorant Spray

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Looking for deodorant that's cheap and doesn't have harsh chemicals? This safe deodorant recipe uses ingredients you can find in your kitchen, is extremely easy to make, and it really works!

 Steps

  1.  Fill the spray bottle about halfway with water.

  2.  Mix in about an eighth of a teaspoonful of baking soda. Mix through.

  3.  Keep adding small amounts of baking soda until the mixture turns moist and paste-like, with a feeling that is both slippery and smooth. The amount you end up using will depend on the type of water used and the size of your bottle. Some water types remove the "slimy" feel and so you'll need to add more.[1]

  4.  Add a drop of essential lavender oil if you want. You might wish to use a different type of essential oil; that's fine but be sure to know the properties of the oil and the safety for applying to your skin and for any medical conditions you might have.

  5.  Shake the bottle gently to mix all the ingredients together. It should feel slippery and it needs to be totally dissolved because any grainy particles will chafe the skin and irritate it during the day.[2] Once the mixture meets these requirements, the deodorant is ready to apply.

  6.  Spray the homemade deodorant on your underarms. Do not rinse. Simply gently massage underarm so that the skin will absorb the deodorant faster, and to enable it to spread to your entire underarm.

 Video

This video shows you how to make a variation of this deodorant for sensitive skin by adding cornflour.

 Tips

  • If your deodorant is too watery, and it doesn't feel slippery, just add a bit more baking soda. If it feels grainy, add more water. Don't forget to shake the bottle.

  • This deodorant can usually last through a day, depending on your activities. You may need to use more or less; if you're sporty, throw the bottle into your carry bag and re-spritz as needed.

  • If the deodorant isn't working well or you are going to have a very, very active day, try adding a bit more baking soda and rubbing it in gently after you apply. It's a good idea to keep a container of baking soda in your bathroom for this. Whenever you need it, just dab with your fingers.

  • If you get any white stains from applying too much, relax: just rinse out with water; the baking soda is not harmful to the clothing.

 Warnings

  • Use only as much as you need! Too much baking soda may cause irritation or stains. You should start out with a bit to use and increase the amount of deodorant you use if necessary.

  • If you experience any reactions, stop immediately. Either speak to your doctor or a dermatologist about a possible sensitivity or allergy to baking soda.

 Things You'll Need

  • Baking soda (bicarbonate of soda); do not confuse it with baking powder!

  • Water - distilled, filtered, or rainwater are the best choices to avoid adding more chemicals to your body

  • Spray bottle

  • Lavender oil (optional)

  • Valve

  • Pump
