There's a new radio station here in New York City on FM radio that I discovered recently while radio surfing. It's WZZZ. Meditation Radio. Now I don't know anything about meditation , T.M. (Transylvania Meditation),mantras, vedism, mystical visions, or any of that spiritual hogwash. BUT I do know when I find a radio station i can really enjoy. I usually listen to a sports talk radio station but now WZZZ is my choice of easy listening. OM.
WZZZ provides hours and hours of interrupted silence and as you know, "Silence is Golden." Just ask the Four Seasons. Silence is often described as a still noise. OM. Now of course there are occasional traffic and weather or major news bulletin announcements but these are always preceded by a message allowing a person in deep meditation or a stupor to be on the alert for some forthcoming news or sports updates ...even a new half billion dollar signing to a baseball, football, or badminton team. OM.
I find WZZZ to be so pleasantly relaxing..just me home alone or with my significant other immersed in deep thoughts or deep throat. . There is no repetitious condescending babble and no nauseating chatter or advertising or bombastic sounds some people call music .It's just hours and hours of silence. OM. What more can someone want from a radio station?
"The earth turns slowly round.Far away the distant sound is with us everyday. Can you hear what it say? OM, OM, heaven, OM. "
I got a summons weeks ago to have to call to see if I have to go to this Federal Courthouse as a potential juror. It's my civic duty to serve on a jury. BUT I don't want this or need this . I was going to write a letter thanking these nice folks for thinking of me but NO THANK YOU. . BUT I need what is deemed an extraordinary excuse to get out of this jury duty obligation.
Well, I do have several legitimate excuses . At least I think I do....I have a bruised big toe on my left foot. This podiatrist I saw twice recently called it a hematoma. WOW. Sounds serious to me. I've been wrapping it with something like a gauze wrap and even get this blister guard band-aid he recommended. I have an achy right instep at times and a callous on that foot. I have band-aids on two fingers of my right hand .One has a paper cut,the other a kind of thin cut by the nail.
I have to pee every few hours from what I believe is an enlarged prostate. I have some itchy blotches that are bleeding at times because they require some abrasive scratching on my arms and legs..not quite mosquito bite itchy but scratchworthy none the less. I sneezed twice this past week and had a few sniffles. This might be the precursor of a formidable upper respiratory infection.
Now it's true that taking one of my ailments at a time may not amount to a hill of beans or a sack of White Castle onion rings. But when we consider all my maladies together, this is indeed a major medical concern. Do I dare risk NOT attending to what might mushroom into a malevolent apocalypse? I think not. I also only get 6-7 hours of sleep a night. . There's no way I can function in a courtroom. I hope the judge recognizes my obvious pathological distress so I'm not selected to be on a jury. .
My right instep was aching for days and I was limping at home and at work. I thought maybe my shoes or sneakers were too tight. I finally went to my podiatrist who said I might have plantar fasciitis which he would make more of a determination of in my next visit in a few days. He gave me some foot exercises to do and said to keep my foot elevated. I spent yesterday riding in the Empire State Building. I thought he said to keep my foot in an elevator.
Here's the story. My wife wanted to go apple picking last weekend at Masker Orchards in the scenic town of Warwick which is located in the Southwest part of orange County, New York. So I agreed to make the two plus hour drive from our home on Long Island , We left on a very cold Sunday morning on a dry but blustery mid winter's day. Seeing a "Midsummer Night's Dream" would have been a better choice that frosty morning. What will we find on our excursion heading for what we hoped would be a really fun apple picking "afternoon delight."
Would we find some Macintosh apples my wife loves to cook or Cortland or Granny Smith that our daughter makes her own apple sauce from? A Northern Spy or Pink Lady might be available for our picking for a delicious home made apple pie.For our salads, a Red or Golden Delicious might be just what we need to keep the doctor away or a marvelous freshly cut Macoun apple. Yes, indeed,my wife and I were seasoned apple pickers and knew just what to look for.
Well, when we got to Masker Orchards, we found we didn't have to battle the crowds of apple picking enthusiasts . We forgot to bring a ladder that we brought when our daughter was just a tot so she could climb trees for us and get those apples in those really high branches. Aside from not seeing other people at Maskers, there was something else we did not see. APPLES. It was mid-winter. OOPS. Bad Timing, I guess. Oh well, we would just have to come back next September when apple season begins.
We were too late for blue berry or pumpkin picking but all was not lost. We found some beautiful snow drop flowers in some of the snowy covered Roads Not Taken by Robert Frost.
Breakfast just got a lot easier to cook. Now there is no need for messy bowls and cleaning pans and taking a lot of time to prepare your eggs. Pillsbury, the company famous for its biscuits is introducing a line of eggs in a spray can. That's right. We're talking about nutritious delicious eggs for your omelets or with your sausage , ham, grits, etc. or whatever you have your eggs with.
These are real eggs. You'd never know they came from a spray can until you see it yourself. They come with yolks or a no yolk can . The cans range in sizes including medium, large, and jumbo like real eggs, and just like real eggs taste significantly better than their soon to be extinct predecessor ,Egg Beaters made by the Con Agra Food Company. Now you're probably thinking that eggs in a spray can sounds kind of gross and artificial. After all, how the hell can you spray an egg out of a can? But scientists and technologists here at Pilllsbury Laboratories have solved that problem through a patented process called" dehydrolyophilization. "
While McDonald's and IHOP threaten law suits against Pillsbury, owners of Denny's Restaurants love the idea saying with spray can eggs they can lay off cooks and dishwashers ,thus lowering their prices and attracting more customers from fast food chains and competitors like Perkins and Howard Johnson.
The AEB ,(American Egg Board), has given these spray cans the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval . However, the AHA. (American Hen Association) has declared this Pillsbury "dehydrolyophilization" process to be 'uncockadoodleutional" and fight against it with every legal means possible like those opposed to Trump's wall. Even the goose that laid the golden egg feels that eggs from a spray can is just not natural . While this is not an "over easy" matter, smart investors are scrambling to get their monies into Pillsbury stocks. They don't think they'll have eggs on their faces when they bring home the bacon.
WHAT'S IN THE BAG? This is not an easy topic to write about. Indeed it is very somber and delicate to discuss. It is a macabre subject and a tad morose,I must admit. ....Viewer discretion is advised. It is something most of us must deal with at some point in our lives. I'm talking about body bags. Leak proof tarpaulin or highly tear resistant polyethelene material make up 90% of body bags. The other 10% or less are made of heavy duty cloth. Most of these bags don't come with handles but can be stitched inside cloth or canvas bags if desired. The zippers are on the side making it easier to bag the body and won't catch on genitalia as is often the case with Levi and Wrangler jeans. ABBA, the American Body Bag Association, has recently released a line of melancholy body bags that come in the following sizes: small. , medium. fitted. fit for a king, and the newly designed size, Dancing Queen...Holy Mama Mia. !!! Body bags can be used to replace lawn collection bags or your household heavy duty Glad or Hefty bags. As you can see they have multiple uses rather than just stacking bodies on hospital cadaver storage racks in a morgue. Body bags replace air bags in some Corvette models and can even be used as a sleeping bag. However, I would not recommend using a body bag when going camping or you might be in for a grizzly awakening.
It's a sad day for New Yorkers and followers of classic movies. Jerry Maren has passed away at the age of 98. Who? you ask...You might not know the name but Jerry Maren was the last survivor of the Lollipop Guild trio from the classic 1939 movie, The Wizard Of Oz. Jerry grew up ...well. maybe not too much "up" in Queens, New York and despite his small stature he will forever stand tall to his loyal fans and lollipop suckers from around the world.
In his honor, Dunkin Donuts will be featuring a limited edition of short bread munchkins for the entire month of January. In addition, to pay tribute to this diminutive iconic actor and singer, Mayor Bill De Blasio has ordered all flags and restaurants for the duration of January to be flown at quarter staff.
A cattle disease is striking fear into bovine lovers all across the USA. Similar to measles in humans, this malady is called Moosles. It is different from cow pox which is utterly different being an udder disease. Cows with Moosles get a dry brassy cough and keep their eyes tightly shut often as they are sensitive to light. They often have white spots appearing on their tongues or red base of the mouth opposite the molar teeth.
Pink, blotchy flat looking patches on your porterhouse steak or rib eye even after cooking might mean you cow had the Moosles before being slaughtered. The same holds true for a leg of veal. Light brown faded lesions on your sirloin or filet mignon also might indicate your bovine dinner had been afflicted with the Moosles.
Moosles is very contagious. See a doctor or veterinarian ASAP if you start itching soon after eating a steak dinner or even fast food hamburger from any chain or Friendly's. . Run, don't walk to a doctor if after eating any kind of beef with an itchy rash that develops rapidly spreading from your hairline down to your face, neck, chest, and limbs. . Moosles can be fatal if not treated with antibiotics within the first 24 hours that symptoms appear. .....and be very very alert for Moosles symptoms if you just had a steak at your local Golden Coral,Longhorn Steakhouse, Texas Road House, Applebees, or Fridays as these chains of restaurants often kow tow to unscrupulous ranchers.
A Guinness World Record was broken today when 250,107, people were jammed into Saint Patrick's Cathedral here in Manhattan on Christmas Day. The previous record of just over 248.000 was easily shattered as well as many of the stained glass windows with people occupying every nook and cranny of this historic building. Worshipers were hanging on for dear life from the rafters beneath the beautiful ceilings painted centuries before by the famous Italian architect and sculptor, Michaelangelo. The Archbishop of New York, his Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan who was part of the sardine packed record breaking crowd said he was excited to be part of this monumental occasion. He had witnessed standing room only crowds but never saw thousands upon thousands of people lying atop each other over the cathedral's giant organ. Mayor Bill De Blasio was also among those squeezed inside on this Christmas day and said now he knows how subway riders feel during rush hour.
